Re: The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread

In reply to Felmin Pasdeloup (msg # 455):

The spellbooks I have are:

Spellbook with Levitate

Spellbook with the following spells: feather fall, hypnotism, sleep, spook,  magic mouth, shatter, and dispel magic.

Spellbook with: all spells of first level from the school of evocation.

Book on the Ethereal Plane.

Book on Moats

Vegetarian Recipes

Romantic Elven Poems

Of course Victor has no idea what spells are in the books until he has them evaluated. After the evaluation, he presents them to the party to see if anyone has need of them. If not they'll go to Garrett who he'll allow to put up for later use or outright sell them. The other books he's read, and has no further use of.

Re: The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread

One evening at an unofficial meeting in the inn, Victor lays out what else he'd like to accomplish in his life after the artifact is retrieved.

Victor tells how he wants to rebuild his armor first and foremost. So, a means to making or  acquiring mithril full plate of speed armor is high on his priority list.

He describes a need to educate himself on lost and what some might deem forbidden powers, though he assures you he's no evil intent in mind for their use should he find such material.

He expresses explicitly his intent to reek vengeance against the Demon that did this to him. So, in doing this he emphasizes a need to learn everything he can on how to summon and bind it. Of course, binding a demon would only come after he regained some measure of himself.

He expresses how he would also be interested in a way to check up on everyone, and even going back, possibly establishing this as a base for himself.

Arbella listens respectfully; nothing Victor said goes against her ethos—though is is self-centered.

Re: The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread

In reply to Garret (msg # 460):

Just as he's about to answer, Victor's eyes close, and he suffers a spasm. He brings both hands up to his head as if it's in excruciating pain.

A moment or two passes.

Victor shakes his head as if answering a question that only he can hear, finally his eyes re-open. He notices everyone staring, and gives each of you a hard stare for a moment.

The skull-like visage of Victor's mask betrays no emotion, and his pose is thoughtful as he says absently, "Well."

Doom places both hands palms down on the table with both thumb tips touching. "It seems my mentor has a way to communicate with me even here," he admits gruffly.

His composure reinstated, Doom turns his attention to answering Garret's question after a keen penetrating look that could be taken as suspicious. "I have no idea what the artifact holds, but I now know that it's heptagonal in shape, being about the diameter and the length of a large man's thumb. (2" inches long by 1" inch in diameter). I've learned it is on a white gold chain that could be mistaken for silver by an untrained eye. My mentor still doesn't have a location within the temple, but the attempt is being made to locate it."

Doom seems mollified after his penetrating observation of Garret's face, and he continues talking by saying, "I want to punish this demon. So I've learned that in order to do this, I must learn the demons name first, and then learn how to bind it to my will."

In reply to John D'oh (msg # 471):

@ John : http://dnd.arkalseif.info/skil...gineering/index.html for your answer regarding Engineering as a skill. You do need tools, and maybe, depending on what you are engineering, a place to work.

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equi...htm#longbowComposite

At here http://www.giantitp.com/forums...ex.php/t-338321.html they describe mighty, but like everyone else, I couldn't find anything specifically calling it "Mighty" in any official books. They say here that...

quote:
Composite bows are described in the Player's Handbook. "Mighty" means the character can add their strength bonus up to the bonus listed. Ex. +2 mighty means the character must have at least +2 strength to wield it property but can only add up to 2 of the strength bonus.

Again, not sure if this is official, anyone know for sure?

Re: The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread

Ham pushed the cart harder when he felt the worked stone ahead but he continued to pause intermittently to put his hand to the ground and take a cursory glance at pebbles he found there. One or two made his eyes light up and with those he'd scratch upon his hammer hanging on the cart before dropping it into a sack. Any rock of size in or along the road got dislodged with a kick. He's clearly looking for something in or under them. But then, with a glance at the surrounding terrain he grabs the handles of the wheeled cart and pushes on. Any worked stone merits close inspection by the dwarf, If it is of exceptional quality or dwarven craftmanship he touches his forehead to it in reverence.

No doubt sharp ears noted his arrival before he opens the door and ackwardly pulls the clanking, grinding and squeaking ore cart into the building. He glances around quickly, studying the structure more than the few people, and then proceeds to the bar, stopping to grope at any stonework he nears along the way, where he waits patiently for someone to greet him. Maybe this is it he muses to himself.

In reply to Hammerforge Delverdeep (msg # 475):

The minute the door becomes even the slightest bit opened, a cacophony of sound is emitted. To begin to describe the chaos that is the Wayfarer’s Inn one must not look inside and expect to see a room of set dimensions. No, one must put perceptions of normality aside, and just accept that the inn simply is whatever size it needs to be at any given moment.

With that aside, you see the inn bustles with activity as patrons unlike you’ve ever seen call out to the serving staff for food and drink; typical of any inn-like environment, but very much atypical in its clientele. The gleaming polished bar seems to go on forever, and the kegs are stacked so high you wonder if the place even has a ceiling. But surely, though skepticism pervades, there is indeed one up there somewhere?

Tankards clink as people fellowship in cheerful camaraderie at tables of all shapes, heights and sizes. Cubby hole alcoves can be found down the outer walls where games of chance are always in full swing. If you head towards any of the many corners of the room you are sure to find some form of entertainment from bardic serenades to plays or even small circus acts.

(OOC: I’ll not be delivering drinks and food to characters, if you desire to actually talk to the serving staff, then I’ll NPC the talk, but as far as basic services go, it is an assumed thing that this is always happening. This inn is the chat room for players to engage in roleplay among themselves until they take off on an adventure. It is the trading post, the crafting hall, and will serve as the place all business is conducted. Have fun!)

You approach what can only be described as an ancient being of a life form unknown to you. The being looks up as you attract his attention, and though the being appears human, its constantly shifting outline clearly indicates it’s not. The beings wrinkly skin is of a yellowish color liken to one that is jaundiced. Milky eyes that once were a pale green peer out beneath a heavy brow crowned with bristling white eyebrows. Whitish-grey stubble can be seen along the beings jaw line, and chin, and there is a faint trace of an equally colored, and recently trimmed mustache.

At first you thought the Keeper was sitting, but as he approaches the counter, you see that the being is merely hunched over as if the weight of the universes is weighing down on his shoulders. The clothing of the being, leather jerkin shirt, breeches, and low boots are nondescript and neutral tan in color.

"What'll you have Hammerforge Delverdeep?"

The words are not spoken but are telepathically rendered to you.

Ham offers a concerned smile in answer; "My friend, are you feeling all right? You aren't appearing much hale and hardy this day. Maybe I could help you. " he answers barely over a whisper as he absent mindedly strokes the Holy Symbol etched into the striking face of his heavy hammer with a callused thumb

"I heard of a place at a crossroad where in someone might practice their faith in all it's forms. A place where the benevolent and those with a care for their fellows may find such fellowship."

Re: The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread

The ancient being chuckles, then again, in your mind, he says, "Indeed, this is such a place."

Raucious laughter follows a drunk man falling from his stool at a table nearby. The din is almost overbearing as games of failed chance bring curses from the loser, and jubilant rejoicing by the winners.

Hoots and catcalls follow an over zealous admirer of one of the lady servers when she dodges a groping hand, and smashes her carrying tray down on the offenders head.

Wafting from the kitchen are divine smells of baked goods, stews, and roasting meats. The mixture of aromas are almost intoxicating in themselves.

"I'll be needing to speak with your Smitty, and then I'll set up my own in the temple area, unless it will disrupt some other in their devotions.  If you have a basement it could be ideal. Moreover, I will be prospectin this area, for payrock. convertin and consecratin along the way." Ham replies, looking more humble than before. _To speak true, I've left underhome with what I could. Spent every coin I had and went through the scrap pile in my blessed uncle's forge. I'll need to work off my keep, and that I am happy to do. I have talent at the forge and would even dig a basement if you need one. Hard work will help me get right with Moradin. You will find that this notion of time based on the fireball in the sky means nothing to me, having lived my entire life underground.I find the Dwarven method to be ideal. I work until my hammer gets too heavy to lift,I eat and drink until I sleep and when I wake I do it again, until my task is finished."

Re: The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread

In your mind, he says, "The smiths all congregate in the South Wing of the city. Go out the main door of the inn, and head south.

To set up a shoppe, you'd need to get approval from Byron. He's the head of the Merchant's Guild. That's over in the West Wing. Go out the main door of the inn, and head west. Byron will prolly have you show what you can do under another smith for a week before he'll give you a place of your own to run (*1).

To earn your keep at your place of business after you're approved to set up a shoppe, you can help the other smith's for an hour a day making horseshoes, door hinges, and other mundane metalwork that keeps the city architecture in good repair. If you prefer to make a weapon, or a piece of armor instead, that'll do too because it keeps the cities defenders, militia, and regular soldiers well equipped."

(*1) You can work from an underground stall in the West Wing after you complete your internship.

Ham leans back slightly and crosses his arms, His eyes narrow a little and he sizes up the innkeeper. Please sir. I am not a merchant hoping to open a shoppe. Those mercantile delverdeeps are gem dealers from the shallows. I am from the deep. Ore is our coin and the forge is a temple to the artisan god of thousands of craftsman laboring over works of quality. I'd just as soon digout under a boulder than join some guild of shopkeepers."
