I don't mind OOC in the game thread, in fact that's where I prefer it if it especially pertains to something in the game. The act of you trying them on would involve the rest of the party seeing you do it, so... there you go.

OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I've put out a call for more GM's and players; something I try to do every six months to bring in new games and fresh fodder.

I've also updated my "Chronicler’s Game Information" thread. Some of the changes I made are:

1) When speaking, please use a different color for your speech. OOC color is Orange, and I reserve the colors Red, BOLD, and DarkGreen.

2) Please include the effects of spells and special abilities that affect your character at the bottom of your post in OOC so that I can easily find and remember them. Please update this information every time you post.

3) I do use psionics in my game. (I've changed my mind on this one, and will allow psionics.

4) Please roll all skill checks at once. If you think a skill check might come into play, roll it. I'd rather have the skill check rolled in advance than have to wait for it to be rolled. This also applies to rolling attacks and damage. Roll the damage with every attack even if you think it may not hit.

These are all the changes I've made to my game information at this time. If you have any questions, PM me.

Thanks!

OOC Thread for General Use (2)

This is a FYI for both player's and GM's alike. It seems that every time I give a group of players some downtime I get dead silence in the posting. I feel this comes from lack of knowledge in regards to what can be done during downtime.

If you don't know what you can do during downtime, here are some ideas.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
This comes from Ruslan at http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?513004-My-list-of-downtime-activities. I modified it a bit to fit my game.

Please subtract your upkeep costs for this downtime period. See the "Variant: Upkeep" sidebar on pg. 130 of the 3.5 DMG.

All income and expenses specified below are on top of that.

Please note that some choices require feedback from me.

1. Take up non-adventuring work.
- You find work as a craftsman, bodyguard, teacher, performer, temple acolyte or whatever non-adventuring work is applicable for your character.
- You earn 10 gp x (your level) during the downtime period.
- You may choose this option twice (burning the candle at both ends!), to earn twice as much

2. Learn a new skill, tool or language.
- Specify which skill/tool/language you want to become proficient in.
- Most skills/tools/languages take more than one downtime period to learn. Be prepared to spend several periods on this.
- It also may cost money to find a tutor.
- You may choose this option twice, to accelerate the learning.

3. Reunion
- Reconnect with people from your background (your partners in crime, your former military buddies, members of your noble house, etc).
- They may have useful advice or information for you.
- You may also choose to have them shelter you for free (no need to spend the 10 gp mentioned above)

4. Spell research (wizard only)
- Choose a Wizard spell of any level you could cast, and add it to your spellbook.
- This research costs 50 gp per spell level, half of that if a spell is from your school of specialization.

5. Find magical or exotic items to purchase
- Describe what kind of items you'd like to find for sale, and how much money you're willing to invest.
- The DM will have something for you, although maybe not exactly what you were looking for.

6. Research
- Go to the library or gather rumors in a local pub.
- You may have a specific question(s) in mind, of just general search for information.
- The DM will have some interesting information for you.

7. Carouse
- For a while, you engage in a hedonistic lifestyle, throwing lavish parties and getting drunk.
- This costs at least 20 gp, although you may choose to spend more.
- Lots of interesting things can happen! And probably will!

8. Make a new contact
- Choose the kind of VIP you'd like to be introduced to (eg. town's mayor, the leader of the thieves' guild, etc).
- Costs at least 10 gp, may cost more, depending on the importance of the person

9. Spread rumors
- You may spread rumors about yourself (to glorify yourself, or even establish a false identity) or about someone/something else.

10. Scribe a scroll (spellcaster only)
- Scribe one of the spells you know onto a scroll.
- A spell may be cast from a scroll once, effectively increasing your number of spell slots.
- A scroll is a one-use item.
- It costs 50 gp per spell level to scribe a scroll, half of that if you’re a Wizard and the spell is from your school of specialization

11. Practice your combat skills, or meditate and pray for good fortune
- You gain Inspiration at the start of the next adventure.

12. Recuperate
- If you suffer from any debilitating illness, long-term effects of poison, etc., you become cured at the end of downtime.

13. Brew potions or poisons (Proficiency with Alchemist Supplies, Herbalism Kit or Poisoner Kit required)
- Describe the effect of the potion or poison, the DM will have the money and time requirements for you.

14. Craft (proficiency with appropriate tools required)
- You may attempt to craft a suit of armor, a carriage, a boat, etc.
- Expensive items may have to be crafted over several downtime periods.
- Some gold for raw materials will have to be expended.

As you can see, there are many things that one can do during this time. The ROLEPLAY here can be a lot of fun, and this event shouldn't just be a list of what a character is going to do, but a roleplay experience that can be just as eventful as any other part of the game. GM's should be prepared to run short adventures with the hooks the characters present in what they want to do during downtime.

It would be a shame to see this part of the game just limited to a list of what a character does during this time, and not fully roleplayed.

That's my two coppers. Nuff said.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

This situation is a first for me, and an unusual situation. I'm trying to research it, and I would like help figuring this one out.

Two players sandwiched 3 kobolds between them. The party went first, and killed one kobold. On their round, 2 kobolds remain in unthreatened squares.

They both flee past a player which will give the player AoO. Even if they tried to withdraw the player would get the AoO since they still had to pass through a threatened square. Instead of withdrawing, the kobolds chose to attack, and simply move after they missed.

Ok, so we establish that the player gets an attack of opportunity against both of them, but is this even possible since his crossbow is now empty.  He shot and missed, then it was the kobolds turn.

I see it as you can take an AoO on the kobolds as long as the player uses the crossbow like a club, or if he has quickdraw, he'd be allowed a weapon change and then get both AoO's.

But, if he does not have the quickdraw feat, he'd be allowed, as I stated, to swing the crossbow (at the risk of damaging it, though) like a club.

Is my way of thinking, right, and if not, can someone point me to the RAW documentation that explains what to do in this situation?

Thanks!

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

This is correct, according to my understanding of the rules, although I would apply penalties for using an improvised weapon.  Also, unless the character has a feat that permits more than one AoO per round, that character would get only one attack.

Also, I don't believe that Quick Draw allows drawing a weapon as an immediate action, and the character would also need to drop the crossbow as an immediate action, resulting in two immediate actions that round, which is usually a no-no, but could work cinematically.

This does not make sense. If they started in unthreatened squares, then they could not attack the players until they moved which if they did, then they could not move again after their attack.

Wow.  I missed that.  Good catch.  Still, if all three were sandwiched (possibly flanked?) between party members and only one was killed, what was happening on the other side of the group of kobolds, where there should have still been a character?

In reply to Mergim (msg # 28):

They threw spears. I should have mentioned that. There were no other players behind the character the kobolds moved past. The other players are nowhere in this area, just the two I mentioned. There wasn't a flank because there's a 5' space between these remaining kobolds after the players did their actions, and killed the rear kobold.

The kobolds threw spears. The kobolds who were in unthreatened squares, then moved past the last player in the order above in which they moved through a square next to that player provoking the AoO by both fleeing kobolds.

Assuming that they start adjacent.

Quickdraw is a free action. Free actions can only be taken on your turn, so no on switching weapons.

Using the crossbow as an improvised weapon is really a DMs call. If you do allow it it would certainly be at -4 penalty for improvised weapon. It would do 1d4 damage and I would consider the crossbow to be Fragile. There would also be a special consideration if it was loaded.

No worries, it's just the characters. Let's hope Boddy doesn't run into anything that eats him before Zaineb can intervene... or wants to intervene ;)

I can already see it:

Boddy storms forth to talk to a Mindflayer and ask him about his tentacles.

Renli: "Boddy, no!" tries to catch up with the gnome.

Zaineb: Holds back Renli, "Wait, I want to see how this plays out..."

Mindflayer: *Screams* Holds his head in pain and flees.

It's a variant rule system primarily for magic, but it has a few martial and gish classes as well as some prestige classes. It can be a little unwieldy but it's a massive amount of options. They were primarily designed for Pathinder but it shouldn't be hard to get them to fit 3.5.

And with that wordy ramble out of the way, Liliana and Maralen will be out for a bit while I recover from a fever. Woo!

Seeking interested players!

Hi!

I'm new to this community, looking for interested players for a D&D 5e game.
It'll be your classic adventure-party-going-on-quests type game for four players.

If you're new to 5e, this might be a great introduction.

Characters will start at first level.

It's a homebrew setting. The town of Ember's Fell is the starting point, and the forested region surrounding it is filled with all manners of ruins, creatures and dangers to explore. To the north is a vast mountain range complete with a supposed Dragon no one has seen for a long time.

The following books are available for use:
PHB
Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
Xanathar's Guide to Everything
Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes

PM me with your interest!

Seeking interested players!

Thanks for all the well-wishes. I'm going through a bit of troubling times besides the troubling times due to the virus taking over the world. I was seriously injured several years ago, and the spinal damage is now disabling me to where I almost cannot walk.

I'm now in a normal wheelchair, waiting to get my new motorized wheelchair, and today they put a 71' foot ramp in at my home. I'm waiting to hear from the company that will install the electric lift that will carry my motorized wheelchair on my vehicle, and for the chair to be delivered.

I've many more appointments, MRI's, X-rays, and etc. I can't wait to get the motorized one because I live in a rustic, hilly location with a gravel road and driveway which makes it hard for me to get out and about.

I appreciate the patience you show when I need it.

Again, thanks for all the well wishes!

Re: Seeking interested players!

WELCOME

The gnome walks over.  "A new comer!  Hey everybody we have a fellow adventurer extraordinaire joining us!"  Boddynock starts the applause.

"What's your name?  Applicant?  What a weird name.  That's what that other guy said too.  Well, that just won't do.  We'll get you hooked up later."

"Let me show you around.  Up there are NOTICES.  They are pretty boring.  No excitement there.  Down below are some OOC.  That's where you are by the way.  A cool place to hang out and chat.  Make some friends.  Ask some questions.  But the real treasure are the Game Threads.  Unfortunately they are hidden.  So you can't see most of them.  That's where the bulk of those 26000 posts are hidden.  I would say its like a rare legendary magic item, but we haven't seen any of those."  The gnome taps his foot and looks at The Chronicler.

"Speaking of which, there's Artifax, The Chronicler and The Keeper.  They are like Gods.  That's a Big 'G'.  Even if you are a priest and worship a god.  They control your god.  I KNOW!  Blows the mind doesn't it.  I've met the first two.  Not sure if the third one exists, but I'll take it on faith, because they said so.  If you have any questions, just ask them."

"Then theres…"  The gnome takes a deep breath and rattles off the list without a pause.  "Able Nimblefingers,Alton Chasmyr,Arbella Elann,Arialis Moonrider,me,Breonna,Brock the Bold,Corlan,Felmin Pasdeloup,Garret,Greb,Gritner Tango,Hammerforge Delverdeep,John D'oh,Lan,Liliana,M.A.C.,Maralen,Nikt,Oktar,Renli,Sevens,
Simon Steelwalker,Sitha,Socket,Tandon Hahpet,Varlian,Victor and Zaineb."

"I haven't met most of them, but I'm sure they are great people.  Unless they are dead.  Then they aren't so great anymore.  Although some undead can be pretty tough, so don't say I said that, just in case."

"Anyway, sorry I cut this so short.  Catch me later when I have more time. WELCOME!"  The gnome gives a bow.

Hello,

I'm new here, looking for 4 players for a pathfinder 1e game.
This game will start local and expand as time goes on. The level scale
of the world is lower, more like 10 rather then 20.

The setting is homebrew. The players are placed in a small mountain valley that
is partially isolated from the rest of the world. Famine along with a looming war between much larger factions puts the players in a difficult position.

Starting at level 1, Core Races, Core Classes, other classes on a case by case basis.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Just a reminder that anyone can play in the The Netherworld Plane Campaign - Game Thread.

I intended it to be used not only for players to get into a game, but also as a place where players can socialize (chat) in-character. Non-adventuring characters can be created to bolster your adventuring characters by having the non-adventuring character craft items, or make money some other way. Here in this world you can run a store, run a guild, and etc.

I see this being like Pathfinder's Kingmaker except this will be more like Chronicler's Townmaker. So, make a character, and let me know what role you'd like to play. If you don't want to do anything but be a gambler in the inn, and take the other players money, go for it. Be a sleazy tramp for all I care, just be there!

I'd really like to see this get off the ground, and I know it can be pretty fun running an ad-lib/ad-hoc area, so as I said, make a character and let me see your creative side.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

In reply to The Chronicler (msg # 127):

I'm getting a lot of questions in regards to my last post on getting players for the Netherworld Plane. Here is how I answered some of the players...

You can be or start anything you want. The rules are there aren't any as far as I know, lol. I'm developing the idea like the Pathfinder Kingmaker game, and will follow a similar structure. We'll make the rules as we go. Here's what I told a player who already has a character who's on an adventure in the Netherworld Plane game.

The character started in the Netherworld Plane, and hooked up with Victor to adventure in the Artifact game. This character isn't going to change what it's doing.

What you can do, if you want, is create another character that can support the adventuring character in some way, or it can be a character completely on it's own and not associated with the adventuring character at all. This character would be a towns-person, and you'd build it's life around the Wayfarer's Inn, and vicinity. The new character would be rooted to the Netherworld Plane and not be an adventurer. As a support character, it could be an acolyte trying to set up a shrine, or a temple to Pelor, or be a character that is related to the adventuring character that has their own shop, or stall. This character could be a brother or sister, aunt or uncle to the adventuring character or not related at all.

As a support character, the new character could give your adventuring character, your party members, and even other players in other games discounts on goods if it were a merchant or alchemist, or it could give them discounts on healing if you built a temple to Pelor with it, and etc.  Of course, the discounts would have to be reasonable; say 5% per every 4 levels of the buyer with a max. discount of 25% at 20th level.

This is my idea on how to start a game similar to Pathfinder's Kingmaker, but it would be Town-building instead. The possibilities on how you'd want to build your town character are many.

I really think this will be a neat thing to try. I hope you think so too.

I'm officially looking for two (2) new players for my Starfinder Dead Suns game.  I still need a player for a ysoki (rat-folk) mechanic who has a combat drone.  I also am looking for a replacement for an elven technomancer.  The technomancer could be replaced with just about anything else at this point, but the ysoki mechanic needs to be run until we can reach a suitable conclusion for his involvement, assuming that you'd rather play something else.

Please let me know if you're interested.

Just a reminder that I have a lot going on with GenCon coming up next week. It's the best 4 days in gaming, and I'm knee deep in the mix. I'm in 8 games, and there's a lot of prep going on due to it all going online with VTT's. I'm trying to cram learn how to use VTT's that I've never used before, make characters, and the like; so updates are going to slow down until after the convention. Thanks for understanding.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I had a wonderful time at GenCon online, and I had 9 great Pathfinder Society games that went off without a hitch. Yes, I added 1 more game to my already crowded 10 hour a day gaming schedule, lol. I sure hope that GenCon continues to do this online.

Of the 9 games I played in GenCon, we succeeded in 8 of them. The last game, entitled PFS #4-02: In Wrath's Shadow, we didn't have the right party composition to take down the ghast, but we didn't die. For once, the party was smart enough to retreat to live and fight another day.

Thank you so much for being patient as I got my game on playing for a change. I sure do love being on the other side of the screen once in a while rolling them bones!

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I will be sketchy in my posting starting Oct 1, 2020 thru Oct. 9, 2020 due to having to prepare for the first of two spinal surgeries. The first surgery is the replacement of 3 of my cervical disks. I'll stay overnight the 6th of Oct. and return home for recovery the 7th. I don't expect I'll be up to snuff for a few days thereafter.

I will undergo a lower back infusion of 3 lumbar disks about 4 to 6 months after this surgery, so this is a heads up on that as well.

Thanks for understanding,

Chronicler

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I want to thank everyone for your patience during my surgery. The surgery went well they say, and I'm now at home recovering. I seem to be doing fine mentally, though I still have swelling in my feet, and some numbness in my right arm with tingling in the fingertips. I will be calling the doc this morning to see if this is a complication or if it's normal.

I'm going to take a couple more days off as I'm just not fully up to snuff yet. Sitting at my desk isn't comfortable on my neck, and typing with my numb fingers isn't fun either. I'll keep you updated, and hopefully, I'll get back to updating my games in a couple more days. Thanks for understanding.

They told me all my symptoms are normal. Due to the way they pinned my arms back and taped down my shoulders, especially the right one, that it was expected to have numbness and tingling in it for up to 3 weeks. If it goes further than that, then they'll worry.

Thanks again to everyone for your well wishes, and for your patience during all of this.

Folks I haven't forgot about you. I need till Saturday February 6th, 2021 or possibly the following Monday. Home construction project started quicker than we thought. I'm overloaded with things I have to do. The contractor who is doing the work on our home put us on hold for over a month. Covid of course. Suddenly, they are ready to go, and we have to get stuff covered, and moved out of rooms. We have furniture arriving, and etc.

To make a long story short, it might not be till Saturday before I can update games or maybe longer. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for understanding.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I'm back, folks, and we can get back on track again.

This is an early heads up regarding my family vacation which will be after my child's school gets out. We will be going on vacation May 22, 2021 to April 12, 2021. During this time, I will be updating games sporadically, which means every 4 or 5 days.

Also, we have gone over 30,000 posts in the gameroom. I think this is the 8th year, maybe 9th, I'm not sure. I didn't know I shouldn't delete games, and posts when I first started the gameroom so the posting numbers are actually lower than what it should be. Also by deleting the first games and posts, I lost what year the gameroom was started too. I wish there was a way to know when it was first started. Well, anyway. Here's to many more years of gaming!

Cheers!

I was thinking of the " Access to A Dungeons & Dragons Gaming Community" PM that's created when people rtj. But I can imagine that the first players have retired and you did not keep their rtj thread. The admins of rpol are typically very friendly, and with your game going on for so long, they probably won't mind looking for the creation date.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I thought of a way to do some more digging about how old this game is.

Your game is number 59301 (gi=59301)

The closest game number still in existence that is older than that is gi=59283 Shadows of Sharn. The oldest publicly visible post (Character Sheet Format) is dated 16 Mar 2014 and that was the GM's 5th post in that game.

The closest game number still in existence that is newer than that is gi=59304 A Legacy Etched. The oldest publicly visible post (RTJ) is dated Thu 18 Dec 2014, so that's not helpful.

Then comes gi=39341 Take me out to the black..... The oldest publicly visible post (RTJ) is dated 19 Mar 2014 and that was the GM's 1st post in that game.

Wyn noted that the earliest post he can find is Mon 17 Mar 2014 in the General Game Information thread, so that fits with that timeframe.

The Wanted - Players forum appears to have had your original game advert on 19 Mar 2014, but you closed that advert down and deleted the text on 25 Mar 2014. I'm glad to see this game must have had a more successful launch a little while after that and has soared to great heights since then. :o)

I’m glad your felling better and hope you are well. I hope the surgeries are uneventful and they get that last bullet and shrapnel out. Camping in the alps and relaxing in Geneva must have been really nice - and we are all glad you were able to deter all those Russian agents ahead of the summit.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

A quick note to all my players in regards to me updating your game threads.

If 2 days go by and I haven't updated your game thread, please gently remind me of this fact. Unless something serious has happened to me, or I state I'm going to take a break for vacation or some other reason in this thread or the Requests for Vacation and Time Off From Game thread, I always update within 2 days.

Apologies to those I've missed updating in a timely manner. My main desktop computer went down again and I just got a sweet gaming laptop to use while its being repaired. The use of the laptop has me a bit off kilter as the keys on the laptop are arranged differently. I think I hit enter, but fail to do so. I'm going slow, and double checking to make sure the update goes through now, but please, if I miss your update, let me know.

Thanks!

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

It's that time of the year! Yup! GenCon is coming to a computer near you. Unless, unlike me, you're going in person to Indy.

What That Means : Like always at this time of the year, I'm not going to be updating my games. I'm finally going to get to play!

Dates : September 15, 2021 - September 21, 2021

Thursday - I'm playing Darktide's Night 5E

Friday - I'm playing Dumplings & Dragons 5E

Saturday - I'm playing The City That Was 5EI'm playing
                and Aredian Manuscripts 5E

Sunday - I'm playing The Frozen Curse 5E
Yeah, I know. Last year I had to learn to play Pathfinder Society because there weren't any 3.5 D&D games, or non-5E Pathfinder games of which I refused to play 5E. Well, I didn't care too much for Society after that experience so I was stuck with either not playing at all, or breaking my stubbornness to play 5E. I've chose to delve head-first into this world... So, wish me luck, and maybe this old brain won't explode with all the new info I'm about to learn!

Thanks for understanding!

Had a wonderful time playing at GenCon 2021 and look forward to doing it again next year. I'll get back and looking forward to updating your games. I may not get to everyone's game today, but I should get caught up by tomorrow.

On another note, I'm starting a live session 5e Greyhawk Campaign that starts in Saltmarsh. I'm new to 5e, but I liked playing it a lot at GernCon and decided the best way to learn it is to DM it. I will be running it every Sunday at 7:00 AM CST using the Roll20 VTT and my discord channel for voice. No video. The game will last 4-5 hours. Characters will start at 2nd level. Characters must be made using D&D Beyond, and require the D&D Beyond to Roll20 browser extension. If anyone is interested, let me know.

What you can also do, if you want, is create another character that can support the adventuring character in some way, or it can be a character completely on it's own and not associated with the adventuring character at all.

This is my idea that would be similar to Pathfinder's Kingmaker, but it would be Town-building instead. The possibilities on how you'd want to build your town character are many.

I really think this will be a neat thing to try, and I'm hoping you'll think so too.

I've got an old character that I've always wanted to play again.  She was a ridiculously-high-level (14th level, which I don't think I've ever managed to get a character past) artificer in the Eberron Campaign setting.  Would I need to rebuild her as a lower level character?  I don't envision her adventuring directly, and there are some character twists that came into play near the end of her run that contribute to this.

I can give you some more details, if you'd like, but it might be fun to just have her around again, running a magic shop and item crafting emporium.

I have an opening in my game ( link to another game ) for someone to take over an NPC for an encounter with some Lizard folk  (You will get the opportunity to personalize the character a bit) - but only for this one encounter. If you want to stay playing in the game, after this encounter, you can roll up a new character.

The party needs a bit of 'Ooomph', as none of the character seem to be prepared to make decisions -   there are quite a few suggestions, but little real planning and limited decision-making.

The character in question is a Female 1/2 Orc bard (L3) to whom you can add another level, to help customize her to your tastes.  The opponents are a group of barbarous Lizardfolk - inside  their compound.

The party have just met the 'King'  and been shouted at in Draconic ....

If you are interested, please PM The Librarian.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

A recent post got me thinking about how gaming has changed since I started in the early 80's back then it was all fairly black and white, you had evil races (Orcs, Goblins, Drow Elves etc) and good races (Humans, Elves Dwarves etc) there was some cross over but for the evil races at least it was a rarity.  Now it seems that even saying a race is evil isn't acceptable but we are talking about creatures who eat other sentient creatures, steal, torture etc
What are peoples thoughts on the subject?  Should monstrous races be seen as irredeemable?  Is it acceptable to fireball first ask questions later?

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

First of all... are we sure that the people that don't want races to be inherent or almost always evil are more than just casual roleplayers?

I have been called nazi before in this site because when I see an "usually evil" or "always evil" race member I usually try to kill it, no matter age, sex, social position or if it is actively trying to hurt me. I really don't want them to have the opportunity to hurt me.

For me, there are D&D law and physics and don't apply to reality and viceversa. And even then, there is little scientific approach.

Take for example, kobolds... they are a different Race than humans in D&D. In real life, homo sapiens sapiens species is the only member of the Human race. Worst, the genetic differences between the skin colors and facial shapes are not enough to even catalogue the negroid, caucasian, mongoloid and the others that I don't remember as subspecies.

The problematic of RL don't apply to a fantasy world where a black female lesbian paladin human can save the world and noone would be surprised for that.

D&D is terra incognita for our RL scientific knowldge and religious believes that support that all sentient beings (in other words, humans) are equals.

And because of that I have no problems in defending the flower of my racial and cultural heritage against the monsters that want to destroy it and corrupt it with their presence by raising a group of like minded decent people and lynch the goblins.

Now that I think of it, it would be a great campaign... instead of the usual "evil race is trying to conquer and killing us" we will try to make a peaceful and good-loving material plane by eradicating all the monsters inside of it.

We would be making more good than any other paladin.

With hexblades and dread necromancers.

That really is quite offensive, although I am sure that you didn't mean it in that way  :)

And that is quite a good definition of an evil character.  :)

Now, I understand that alignment isn't really something that players enjoy roleplaying any more - but in my 40-odd years of roleplaying, I have seen some excellent role play based on alignment -  and a lot of very sloppy Roleplay based on ignoring it.

Ironically, it has always seemed to me, that there are many lazy and casual role players who don't like to deal with alignment - and who often have a very limited understanding of the concept.  Not all, of course, but quite a few.

In reply to Alton Chasmyr (msg # 333):

Do you not bleed enough?

The worlds of DND have natural enemies who are sentient- of course the players play an often renegade member of an enemy faction but they get really cool strengths from that and they should suffer the negatives of prejudice and misunderstanding. I am trying to play a slow change in my character tolerating his natural enemy but I wonder if I’m the only one doing that and it seems I’m just the one prejudiced guy in a group of high minded liberals but don’t worry Alton- they still don’t trust you.

It should be worse than elves vs dwarves in Tolkien worse than the Russian agent joining Americans. These are creatures with a totally different concept of right and wrong from birth. Their social organizations are totally at odds.

In another game on here I have a hobgoblin slaver turned Druid and I’m a little disappointed that more people don’t distrust or hate him even a little so that there it room for character development.

Yeah, I have learned the bad way that if you want to make a positive impact and make a better world, you have to play evil.

And that is quite dangerous for the PCs

I sincerely hope so. I also hope that if I pick you enough times, you will bleed to death. And then I can repeat the process with all your Corellon-damned kin, spider lover murderous and freakish monster.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Sorry, I'm not letting anyone tell me how to portray my character. Evangeline comes from another rpol game where she (as an aasimar) fell in love with a tiefling (PC). It was character development that got her there, not a simple entry in her background. So, at this point she is willing to give somebody else, of an evil race, the trust her companion once earned, it's a choice to be different.

Again, don't anyone tell me how to portray my character or how they feel I should feel about an evil race. The PCs are supposed to be better versions of the average person, you can see that in every fantasy movie where good and evil start out as enemies and have to work together to stop a greater evil. Many times they end up developing respect or friendship and if players feel the need to speed up or skip that process since play-by-post is very slow (we just finished a 13 year long campaign) then that should be their choice.

Personally, I won't tell anyone else how to feel about an evil race or how to portray their character. Everyone can do that any way they wish - but actions/words may have consequences. So, if your character doesn't want to trust a PC of an evil race, that's cool - just don't expect everyone to share your point of view.

However, the GMs I've met should play the NPCs more prejudiced, since they (the NPCs) are usually the ordinary, more prejudiced citizens of a fantasy world.

Well, I think the issue is not about our characters, but the world and what interaction can we expect. The pressure is not on the players, but to the game developers and to some extent, the GMs.

I understood this:
WordReference Random House Learner's Dictionary of American English © 2021:
pick1 /pɪk/
to pierce or break up (something) with a pointed instrument:
to pick iron ore.

WordReference Random House Learner's Dictionary of American English © 2021:
prick /prɪk/
to pierce or make a hole in with a sharp point;
puncture:[~ + object]
I pricked my finger.

Either way, it works.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

@Dagger -  your earlier comment is somewhat offensive because, basically, is says  'If they don't agree with my view, are they even serious players'.

As for RL Philosophies?  That is quite amusing.  The original rules had alignment written into them right from the start.  And it has had aligned races built into it from the start.  It is a very modern philosophy, both in game and RL terms, that races aren't inherently evil.

I am glad that you agree that killing  supposedly evil races, on sight, is evil.  So, technically, if we were using the game rules on alignment properly -  the less evil characters would be more than justified, after a while, in hanging (or otherwise) executing the Evil Character.  Once they have recognized the inherent evil with in it.

The game designers, and often DMs, do recognise that. It is often built into a world and the laws of the world - however, they are generally ignored.

This is generally a group game, in which all the players and DMs have an investment - and there is a perception that it somehow isn't fair to wreck any other players' enjoyment of the game by killing their character or by subjecting them to severe racism - so that often doesn't happen.

The original game made it clear that there was a Law Vs Chaos role playing element.  The later versions added a Good Vs Evil  alignment axes to try and give slightly more sophistication - to that Role Playing element.

In the early game,  there were a limited number of races and classes, and it was fairly easy to define a culture for each of the races.  Humans tended to worship a single pantheon (and followed those reasonably bland cultural rules), dwarves, Gnomes, Elves and Halflings had their own (slightly different) cultures - while the half-humans were all outsiders of some type.

That changed with Oriental Adventures, when a new culture was added for the first time - although those concepts of racial cultures were maintained. It was even the same with Darksun and Al Quadim.

However, the core D&D world became very bland, with no distinct Culture -  except that anything goes.  That, of course, was down to the game companies, who were more interested in making money from supplements (and new rule sets) than they were about providing a cultural setting.  I stopped  playing in those worlds years ago.

Pathfinder, when I started playing it, was a fairly self-contained set of rules and was built around cultural certainties.  APs were set in distinct areas, with cultural settings, and those cultures changed from area to area. It was an interesting world to play in.  Then many new feats and deities were designed for different APs and settings - and added to their cultural richness.  However, once that new material escaped into the wild, they just diluted the playing cultures in every other part of the game world.

It is a shame really - characters from every single race have become little human clones, going off and doing their own thing with little differentiation.  We can finish up with a lot of fairly one dimensional characters following their own little storyline and philosophy.  BUT, I suppose that is very indicative of the modern world.

Yep, I am a grumpy old man.  But a grumpy old man who has been playing, DMing and world building for a long time.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

In the end, I've been quite glad that there are lots of different types of players, characters, DM/GMs, and worlds in which to play.  I've played and run lots of games with completely different approaches to culture and the concepts of higher powers, moral forces, and good versus evil.

I've enjoyed most of them, often for completely different reasons.

Generally, though, and given the way that typically/inherently evil races are portrayed, it does seem like the average NPC should react more strongly toward them, even if the PCs don't.  Referees (to use an older term than DM or GM) should also shape the world, to some degree, so that it's one that the individual players in any particular game want to play in.  If the struggle of good versus evil is a major component of the game, then that should be at the forefront of the action more often than not.  If this is more of a Conan-style swords-and-sorcery setting (which pre-dates the modern RPG by several decades), where moral ambiguity is the word of the day (at least when good-versus-evil is considered at all), then adventure and the quest for riches can make for some extremely strange bedfellows.

I am with you there :)  The same thing, all the time, gets boring quickly.

Currently I play a Goblin in a non-human party who were involved in a war against the Pinkskins -  although they are now planning how to double-cross a dragon. A 'Hero', in a heavily Celtic game, trying to liberate the world after the good gods were weakened/imprisoned by the Evil Gods. And a character working on the destruction of an Orc tribe.  Not to mention a Starfinder game.

However, the characters I play with are all culturally suitable for the core settings.

I'm at about 90% recovered, but this is day 6.  I suspect that I'm going to need several more days to be fully back up to speed.  I can't return to in-person work (I can only do very minimal work remotely) until after day 10, by Washington State rules, so at least I have the time.

Also, the changes to the tastes of things really suck.

I wanted to say hi many times, but you had your problems, I saw other problems arise... and well, I didn't know if it was convenient to say anything at any point.

I waited till I could and then I asked. I even though you would be still solving your problems.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I've currently got two open spots in the roster for my Starfinder Dead Suns fantasy/sci-fi game.  The first slot I hope to have filled is for an existing character (ysoki operative, which is essentially a ratfolk rogue) which is just now ready to level up from 1st to 2nd, so there's the opportunity to place your own stamp on him, even if you don't want to keep playing him past the party's return from a quarantined mining ship to the nearby space station.

I have a second opening as well, if I get two takers, also for a short-term role, but it could also become a longer-term one, if you so desire.

Please let me know if you're interested.

I managed to fill one of the two open player spots in the Dead Suns adventure path for Starfinder, and still currently have one more opening available, if anyone is interested.

I updated the game info and also noticed that I've got a player slot open in the Rise of the Runelords adventure path for Pathfinder (1st edition), if anyone here is interested.  Characters are currently 3rd level, and will likely hit 4th in the next little bit.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

You can make whatever you want, although I currently have a female halfling slave that the party just freed that you could jump in with.  Other than that, we'll need to get to a point where they're back out of the dungeon before I can introduce a new character.  If you're ready and raring to go, I could find a way to insert another character, though.

The party doesn't currently have a dedicated healer, but the druid has done fairly well in the absence of one.  We also have two unchained rogues, a wizard, and a bard in the party.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I'm wanting to give the game room the heads up that we are moving from Kentucky to Guam where my family can travel easier to the Philippines where my wife is from. We will leave June 4th and stay a month in the Philippines before we go to find a condo in Guam at the beginning of July. During these transitions, I may be posting sporadically. There may be days, especially in the Philippines where we will be without internet. Of course that will change once we get to Guam.

This month we are busy trying to get packed and stuff shipped over, mothball the house, and do other things that need to be done to carry out such a big faraway move, so I may be posting every other day from now on or maybe even 3 days. I apologize in advance, but life comes first. Please bear with me, and hopefully everything will return to normal in a few months. Thanks!

Greetings everyone! We have finally made it to my wife's island in the Philippines and I must say the trip was worse than expected, what with long delays, layovers, and flight cancellations, but finally, the first leg of the journey has ended. I'm on a sketchy wifi signal that comes and goes, but hopefully I'll be able to get my games updated before we take off for Greece. We're here for 2 weeks, so I expect I'll get them updated tomorrow if I don't pass out from heat exhaustion, lol. It is sooooo hot here I haven't been dry since landing. Haha.

And water rather than beer  :)

I took a young man to take part in a battle re-enactment a few weeks ago, and he forgot to drink water.  On the way home, he felt sick, and collapsed as he got out of the car. A small bottle of water, followed by a stop at McD's sorted him out. Dehydration is a strange beast.

Actually... cold beverages (including water) are not the best choice in a hot climate. Being married to an African husband and visiting the family in Africa taught me that a cold drink actually makes your body work on heating up the drink, making you sweat even more. So, if you don't want to overstress your metabolism you stick to lukewarm water :) (mom-mode off)

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Not superstition. The body tries to keep the core temperature of 37°C +/- stable, so the same thing applies when you take a shower in a hot climate, too cold and you have activated your body to produce heat. In winter it pays off to shower with (moderately) cold water to get your body working. Doesn't have to be the complete shower, a few moments should be enough ;)

Of course, the more you sweat, the more water you loose - but also electrolytes and minerals (sweat is salty after all). So keep an eye on those as well. But I'm positive most people knew this already, a gentle reminder never hurts though :D

Sorry for the extended absence without updating, but I experienced what the local Pinoy people call poor internet which is what dialup was like in the 90's. I've finally made it to Athens Greece where I have internet again. YAY! However...

I'm trying to catch up on mundane necessary life things with the decent internet plus we are going to tour Europe so I will try to update if I can. No promises.... Lol. This interruption to my gaming life should last no longer than late July, but I will have times where I can get in an update or 2. Thanks for understanding. Oh, btw, the weather is hot temperature wise here in Athens but easily bearable compared to what I just left in the Philippines which I can only describe as unbearable to say the very least. Backwoods camping in extreme conditions is another way to describe it, and I will leave off saying anything else about that so as not to be insensitive. I didn't know how good I had it till I spent a week living there. Be thankful for what you do have because others may not have even a quarter of what I know I took for granted.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Hafa Adai! Since I haven't had time to update, I thought I'd let you know the reason why. We finally found us a place to live on Guam in a beautiful condo near the beaches. We finalize everything in a couple of days, (We are a day ahead of USA), and hope to be moved in fully by this weekend. Once we get our daughter enrolled in school, I should be free to get all the games updated on a regular basis again, and snorkel to my hearts content!

Salamat! The word means thanks in Tagalog. I thank all of you for being so patient with me as I made this transition and I look forward to some more good gaming.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

It seems you refer to posts in the "Wayfarer's Inn" thread, this is located in Group "0", removing your access to Group "0" would also remove access to all other Group "0" threads, which are required. Moving the "Wayfarer's Inn" thread to a different group would interfere with its purpose to allow players to find a group to join.

I believe we are far enough in the group gathering period that it should not be long before the players will post in the adventure thread, stopping the 'red-light-bombardment'. Of course when the players should move is for the GM to decide...

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Unfortunately, we have just moved the Nethys Tower thread to group 0, as well.  The thinking behind that, was that we will have something happening that prospective players can see, and get some sort of idea for the game - as it is the only group that can be seen by everyone.

You could change the frequency of emails, which would mean that you get fewer notifications, but that you don't get immediate notifications for the threads that you are in.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

While I could see the image in Firefox, I tried to load the image in Chrome and that failed, BUT if I right click on the image marker and select copy from the context menu, THEN paste that address into a new tab, the jpg opens up just fine on its own.

Probably stupid suggestion, Artifax, but could you try replacing the hyphen in the file name with an underscore, just in case that's causing the text to wrap oddly and the browser is doing something stupid such as only interpreting the first line when it breaks to two lines ??

I got Dr Google on the case and some reasons mentioned for image not displaying (by no means exhaustive):

https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000813.htm

1) browser settings
2) cached version of old page
3) security software
4) server hosting image not available

But nothing leapt out.  :<

My Starfinder: Dead Suns game is wrapping up the first of six books in the adventure path.  We're down to three active players and are looking to add one or more new ones just as soon as we finish end-of-arc wrap-up with the current patron.

Since Starfinder is a starfaring magic-and-tech environment, lots of character types can fit in, and conversion from 3.5/Pathfinder to Starfinder is fairly easy, if you have an existing level 4 character that you'd like to have hop in and join us.  I'm also happy to have brand new characters join us.

Please message me directly if you're interested.

After 36 years, I've finally completed my collection of Rush's studio albums.  They, along with Led Zeppelin, were my introduction to what I think of as "gaming rock", back when I was 12 years old.  I've dearly loved them ever since, and finally finished collecting all of their non-live albums.

We've got a great one just a couple of miles from where I work.  Their collection of used albums is prodigious, and I've found some real gems there over the years.  The new stuff they sell is a split between vinyl LPs and CDs.  The used stuff is mostly LPs and CDs, but I've occasionally seen tape casettes and 8-tracks there, and there are DVD, BluRay, and VHS movies aplenty.

I got a VHS converter and I'm even converting some of my old tapes to MP4, against the day when my last two VHS decks give up the ghost.

Try now -  I have sorted out the link, added table headings and a brief definition.

TBH, there will always be DMN input required, when working out categories, benefits and bonuses.

OOC:  WE probably need to think about ship roles in an OOC thread, before we get into combat again. The Magic Officer roles isn't a particularly good analogue for Science Officer, we also need to think about gun batteries, if we want to fire all of them in combat.

Reshakazan wasn't made with starship combat in mind, particularly and he suffers from the perennial 'I am a fighter, and therefore I have no skills of any kind' problem, exacerbated by the fact that I keep buying up Profession(Storyteller) each time that he levels.

He's got respectable (+7) athletics, so he can take chief mate actions but I doubt our ship's that big. His bluff & intimidate are okay (+5) so he could be the captain. Gunnery is... a thing that he can do (+4), and of course he has Mysticism (+5) so he could be a (fairly terrible) magic officer.

Yes, I agree with your assessment. I think you can focus on Chief Mate options - If we are ever in a place where you should be intimidating or duplicitous you can manage communications as the chief mate. Then you can shoot an extra gun or provide aid another to Jem.

I think storyteller is great, hopefully you use it.

Gritner's is highly focused on ship combat Pilot +14, Diplomacy +10, Gunner +7, so we should be okay...and there will only be so much ship combat.

*Grin* if the boys from the Veskarium cover Gunnery and Magic Officer roles as required.  Jem can also act as cover for Pilot and Engineer.  But that leaves Science Officer tasks to Grit & Socket, I am no good at those, and Magic Officer doesn't cover the same range of skills.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

There has been a situation in the game room that is deeply troubling to me, and I want to address it immediately.

I hope everyone involved will take a few deep breaths as well as those who might be affected by this situation as fallout from what has occured. Most of you have been in my game room for a long time, and I really don't want to lose anyone, so please allow me a couple of days to sort this out.

It has come to my attention that some players might not be aware that GM's can play characters in any game in the game room and that GM's can read all Private Messages.

The title (Private Messages) should be what it says and is misleading. With that said, I didn't realize that some players didn't know that all PM's were able to be viewed by all GM's where rMails are truly private between individuals. My bad. I will be making this fact known to all by adding this fact to the General Game Room rules section so everyone is clear about what is and what isn't private.

Also, all the GM's here play in several of the other GM's games, and it should be noted that a GM can even play a character in their own game. I'm not talking about an NPC, but an actual character. For example, I play Able Nimblefinger, Camber of Culdi, and Aego Yr as a player character. I don't believe I have any other aliases, nor am I playing a player character in any of my own games. I have done this in the past, but I do believe I told the players I was the GM of the game and asked if they would allow me to do this. I usually only do it when they cannot find any other players to join the game.

The situation that I'm looking into at the moment deals with everything I'm mentioning and has really upset players who didn't know this. With this said, and with it out in the open and clearly stated to you the player, I hope this will be the first step in making amends to anyone who was affected by the lack of this knowledge. Again, I will be drawing up a post to add to the rules section so everyone who joins the game room, going forward, will be fully aware of how RPoL is set up.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through this situation.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Thank you for the information, Chronicler. As a former GM I've been aware of this setup (private messages not actually being private from everyone) for a long time. Being part of a similar setup (multiple GMs for a game room), I was also informed that RPoL requires the GMs to check all the PMs for violations of rpol TOS, and that every GM in a game room is liable for any transgressions, even if the players/GMs involved are not part of their campaign.

Just saying for completeness sake.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Following on from Chronicler's Post.  I play Wyn Roth, Raven DuKassen, Zoho Perse & Jem as characters, all of my characters speak in aqua.  I do not play PCs in games that I run, although I sometimes have a regular NPC travel with a party.

On an associated note, GMs consider it bad etiquette for a PC to describe the actions of Named NPCs in their posts.  That is because the behaviour you choose for the NPC might not fit with the GMs characterization of the NPC, and even an innocuous action might be out of character for the NPC, or force the GN to change something they have planned.  Some NPCs have more background and personality notes than some PCs :)

I have a hunch that this is a more complex issue than assuming the actions of an NPC in a post, and from a spectator's position I would prefer that either all is handled without 'the public' or 'everything in public' since a one-sided presentation of the issue can be very misleading.

Thank you for considering this. :)

Chronicler and The Librarian, thank you for clarifying which of your accounts are players. I hope that this is pointed out whenever a new player joins from now on. This should go a long ways towards correcting the issues.

The Librarian, considering that there are issues involving you, as a player, in an ongoing dispute, I am kindly asking you to refrain from commenting on it publicly in a GM capacity until it is resolved. If you do want to post your opinions publicly then please post from your player account. Not blurring your opinions as a player by speaking authoritatively from your unassociated GM account will be greatly appreciated and I think is the next step (after making GM/player associations public) towards addressing my concerns. Thanks.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I kindly asked you to refrain, I did not decide that you will refrain. The decision is The Chronicler's choice, as you say, and I do not need a reminder of that.

I personally think you should have the grace to realize when you are a player and when you are a GM. In the game that I have been playing for 5 years, it was never brought to my attention that you would be a GM, or that it would be a "multi-GM game". That was a major surprise to me. I would have been opposed to this if it had been brought to my attention, since you are playing in that game.

I will gladly continue to discuss this issue with who I agreed the GM of the game would be. Since I agreed to have you play as a player, and not a GM, I will not be speaking to you as a GM over this issue. I am more than willing to discuss this issue with you as player to player. I will again, kindly ask you to refrain from speaking out on this issue as a GM until this issue is resolved.

Yep.  It was always Jase's intention to switch to this new version of the RPoL Interface -  as per the decision  taken in the RPoll a few years ago.  The front page of the site was advertising the switchover  (27 Dec)  for a few weeks.  Personally, I have been using the new interface on my phone  (which I use for occasional posting)  as I found it much easier (in that format) that the 'old' interface.  I suppose that helped me get used to it - because I always preferred the old interface on the computers that I use for the majority of my posting.  However, I made a point of using it more  when I saw the switch over date and  don't notice the difference now.   It took me about three weeks, I suppose, to get used to it.

Yep, I was afraid of that. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get used to it. I need to figure out how to change the background color. I'm blinded with this white one. I use a LG 55" LED 4k tv for a gaming monitor so as soon as my eyesight returns, I'll tone it down, lol. Thanks for the update.

I'm feeling better now. It must have been covid. I (we/the family) had it for 1 day when we were overseas last year, and this lasted 1 day too. I didn't test, but it was identical to the first time I did test positive. Today, it's like I wasn't even sick. Rest of the family got it too and before me. It also lasted only a day for them. Naturally, they passed it on to good ole me.

Our vacation was at Disney World. We did the Very Merry Christmas event and then did all of the parks the rest of the days we were there. Then we visited my other daughter in Ocala. Had a terrific time. Last night we watched the ball drop and hit the bed. Hope everyone stayed safe and brought the New Year in with a bang.

As it's a new year, it is my duty as custodian to ensure the game room has an accurate accounting of players and NPC's. I need all players in the game room, including GM's to send me a list of the Characters/NPC's that you use that you do not want me to delete. I'm setting a deadline of Jan. 8, 2024 for a response. If I don't get a response in that time, I will send the player a PM of any characters that haven't been accounted for as being active. This will be my final attempt to see if the character in the Cast list is still a character that needs to remain in the active list and not be deleted. This PM deadline will be Jan. 15, 2024.

ON JAN 16, 2024 I WILL BE DELETEING ALL DORMANT CHARACTERS AND NPC'S that a reason for not deleting them hasn't come to me in a PM or a post here in the OOC thread. Thank you for your timely response.

I have sent Chronicler a list of all the characters participating in games that I run, as well as a note of characters I have plans for

@Yip -  we will get there.  GMs are a bit like Old Father Time.  Towards the end of a year we get old, tired and haggard -  then the new year comes and we are reborn, although like any new born it takes us a while to get moving again.  Then comes the tidal wave of youthful and teenage energy (when we come up with marvellous stuff)  then the year starts to get old -  and the cycle starts again.

Watch out, the GM Tidal wave is coming ...

Gritner Tango, Oktar, and Faiz BenSultan are all active in current games
Nether Security Agency is actively petering along as needed.

Tandon Hahpet and Garret - are each hoping for a level 6 D&D 3.5 game to come along someday

Macawi is hoping for a level 5 Pathfinder game

And we all are wishing you all a happy new year!

The following character's that are not active in an adventure are located in the Netherworld Plane. If you are not in the Wayfarer's Inn, I need to know your location, and what you are doing. If you are in the inn, then I'm assuming you're in a room unless you tell me otherwise.

Evangeline
Garret
Macawi
Tandon

Example: Camber of Culdi is in the library doing research on the Abyss.

These other two characters, if they are still with us, can also tell me their location and what they are doing.

Alishi
Seralessa

The Chronicler:

It is 11:00 PM of the Tuesday 9th of January here where I live and I didn't got a PM. Luckily I payed a visit :)
Seralessa was here with the glorious purpose of playing a pirate hunting game. We did it. And aside that, I have no further use for her.

I guess that in the future I see a Players Wanted post for a game, I can submit a RTJ again.

By the way, Larmiun and Dagger's player had a very deep loss in his family. His father died. He may take a day or two.

Dori was born on Saturday, at 10:46 A.M. Pacific Time (GMT -8:00), at 7 pounds 11 ounces.  Mom and baby are resting comfortably, but dad (me) hasn't had much sleep, and little of it all in one go.

I'll get back to gaming here and there, in between re-counting fingers and toes, cuddling, and so on.

I'm going to stick to just one (obligatory, proud papa) picture.  Here she is!

My mother-in-law is staying with us for about a month, to help my wife with the baby, and she's from Wood Green, in the north of London, and she wasn't familiar with the song that Esmerelda posted the link to, but I'm sure that we'll be getting no small number of English songs and stories from her, for babies.  For reference, my wife and I were both born here in the U.S.A., although she also has British citizenship.

Reshakazan: I got the languages straightened out yesterday or the day before, so Yip should be seeing posts in ysoki now.

Oh, I mentioned the song and she immediately began to recite it.  Her eyes lit up more than a bit at references to places from her childhood.  While she's been in the U.S.A. since the very early 1970s, and has taken frequent trips back, some of the lyrics have begun to fade a bit it seems.

Speaking of dwarves, I keep telling my wife that our daughter should inherit my long beard.  She doesn't appear to be buying it, though, despite how quickly Dori calms when she can cuddle into it.

I have never found a better entry-level political text than episodes of 'Yes Minister' and 'Yes Prime Minister', which was a sitcom of breathtaking cynicism and I still occasionally find myself remembering 'The Good Life' or wondering what some modern American audiences would make of 'The Kenny Everett Television Show', 'The Young Ones' or 'Allo Allo'.

I'm willing to bet that most of the childrens television she remembers has the quality of a fever dream though, we had some really, really weird stuff back then. ^_^

We watch The Good Life and Allo Allo fairly regularly here.  They're favorites of my wife, and I've come to love them too.  There isn't much English children's television any of us watch, and my mother-in-law didn't have a television at home in the 40s through the early 70s, so I'm pretty sure she wouldn't remember any of it, weirdness aside.

I'm underselling the feverish quality of some of the concepts - there was one show where a magical clockwork egg played classical music to the woodland critters while Sherlock Holmes watched. And of course, there's Watership Down and The Animals of Farthing Wood, where the bloody deaths of named cast members happens on screen several times in glorious childrens animation.

In more recent shows, you might find yourself enjoying the gentle humour of The Detectorists though - I caught it while I was back home over November.

She's feeling much better today, although we're told that it will take about six weeks for her to finish healing completely.  I'll be heading back to work tomorrow, but will be helping around the house even more than usual for a bit still.

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys.

I am away Easter weekend too. I forgot to put this up in advance. Posting will be sketchy as we will be on the road for my daughters Spring Break too. The dates of sketchy posting will be March 29, 2024 to April 8, 2024. Thanks for understanding.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I've been reading some LitRPG material my adult son recommended to me.  Characters in the story are aware that they have levels and classes, along with skills (feats).  It's interesting to ask the question, "What if the characters knew some of this stuff, from a rules perspective?".  The story only sort-of does this, but it's still and intriguing question.

If you've never heard of it, you must try Order of the Stick then (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html) - not only are the characters fully aware of the game mechanics, they've got a good grasp of the narrative process too !  :>

That's definitely one of my favorites.  I've been reading since the early 2000s, but have paid less attention in recent years.

Here's one of my early favorites.

... and now I'm enjoying them all again, from the very start !  ;>

My current favourite quote (from https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0050.html):

Elan: I'm a bard.
Nale: My father taught me that bards were underpowered.
Elan: Really? So what class are you?
Nale: I'm a multiclass fighter/rogue/sorcerer who specialises in enchantment spells.
Elan: And that never struck you as needlessly complicated?
Nale: Not until this moment, no.

That is not fake.  The original double decker outhouse, is in Booger Hollow Arkansas, which also has a sign declaring population 7 "counting one coon dog"

Been there since 1961...I can attest it is a real place.

It is abandoned today...

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

Fast approaching is summer vacation time. My family has decided to go on an epic road trip of the USA. My wife and I haven't many years left before our daughter will be wanting to do her own things, and we won't spend the quality time we can share together now, then. So, I'm giving early warning that from May 28th till the end of June, my posts will be limited as driving across, up and down the USA will be hard on this old man. We will be driving over 8,000 miles with 30 stops at most of the major landmarks and cities along the way. This trip will take just over a month. So, I will try to update, but cannot guarantee that will happen daily. I will try not to go over 3 days but if it happens, please be understanding. Thanks!
