Players Seeking Games and GM's Who Want to Run Games

This is the thread for players who are seeking games and posting what they'd want someone to run.

This is also the thread for GM's interested in running a particular RPG, and asking this community if they'd want to play in it.

Just a reminder that anyone can play in the The Netherworld Plane Campaign - Game Thread.

I intended it to be used not only for players to get into a game, but also as a place where players can socialize (chat) in-character. Non-adventuring characters can be created to bolster your adventuring characters by having the non-adventuring character craft items, or make money some other way. Here in this world you can run a store, run a guild, and etc.

I see this being like Pathfinder's Kingmaker except this will be more like Chronicler's Townmaker. So, make a character, and let me know what role you'd like to play. If you don't want to do anything but be a gambler in the inn, and take the other players money, go for it. Be a sleazy tramp for all I care, just be there!

I'd really like to see this get off the ground, and I know it can be pretty fun running an ad-lib/ad-hoc area, so as I said, make a character and let me see your creative side.

Players Seeking Games and GM's Who Want to Run Games

Hello, lovely individuals,

I would love the opportunity to join a game. I am relatively well-versed in 3.5, Pathfinder, and Starfinder. I do prefer Pathfinder, but I'm open to any system. I'm open to solo, small, or large-party games.

My writing tends to be character development-heavy and story-laden, but I always find a way to incorporate the contribution of my fellow posters into my post. I enjoy games where secondary skills come into play as much as combat ones do, where fighting is not always the answer, and where flavor and rules find a happy balance.

I enjoy playing martial characters without relying on their martial skill to have fun (if that makes any sense).

Please consider me for your next opening. Hope to game with you folks soon :)

Dear Firm Pin,

I read your sweet post with interest. Then I looked in a mirror. Alas, it seems your post was not meant for me.

Regardless, may you find one or more homes here.

Sincerely,

Hello Pin,

we recently lost a player to what we assume is the gharish beast called 'real life'. Perhaps you'd like to join a group of four (plus a couple of NPCs) and explore a dungeon with the goal to eventually get back to the surface ;)

It's DnD 3.5, interested?

Great, the group currently has a duskblade, druid, cleric and a bard. Tell us a bit about yourself, for how long have you enjoyed playing story-laden martial characters without relying on their martial skill?

Wow what a great question!

I've been writing (though I wouldn't have called it that) for about 18 years, roleplaying for about 15 years, and table-topping about 12 years. I'd say I've been instituting this particular idea for about seven years, when I've really discovered my passion for story.

To be honest, one of my characters from a game prior to this inspired me to write a book ("urban" fantasy drama). Maybe one day I'll actually finish it, but it's been fun :)

That's really cool, I started playing 34 years back table top of course, until we relocated 500kms from my ADnD group and I lost contact. Locally there were not groups that suited me and I was lucky to find a new home on Rpol. That was in 2001, I think, and I've enjoyed playing here ever since. Most likely because I do enjoy the story telling part, too :)

What's your favourite personality type you like to play? Brooding, light-hearted, happy-go-lucky never serious, boastful, flamboyant...?

Players Seeking Games and GM's Who Want to Run Games

I wish I was raised in an environment where tabletop gaming had been accessible and/or not demonized. When I was a kid I was informed that the game books had real spells in them that would summon the devil. Crazy stuff.

I definitely lean towards grittier, conflicted characters. When I write that I promise I'm not hiding a secret fascination with edge-lord characters, though I believe that even they have their place. Those that kill because they have to eat, those that have been doing dark deeds so long that they don't even see it as evil, those who care more about saving their own family then saving a village.

I also like to play the devil-may-care professional, who has a taste for finer things. They are either just as shallow as they seem, or are filled to the brim with problems hidden behind thin veils of paranoia and depression. I've even played a character that was blind with these issues, and they seemed to work relatively successful in a campaign I'd played for about twoish years before it fizzled out.

I've also really enjoyed playing very flamboyant characters, ones with egos too big to contain, and happily subject these individuals to the consequences of their actions. I've definitely played less of these types characters though; I've found that many players take their actions personally, though these actions have no effect on the story or other characters. I really do enjoy the character development opportunities, but not at the expense of other players' experience. Or my own.

Soon I'd like to play a Lawful Good character, and play them out in that alignment as strictly as I can in order to see the inevitable dilemma that comes with the pursuit of justice, order, and good.

More than anything, I create personalities and behaviors that will allow for three essential things:

1) Opportunity to create stories with other people; my character's personality and behavior should never prevent them from interacting with their companions. Even if they happen to be a lone wolf, they should be able to find an excuse, a reason to have extended interaction with others. Or what's the point?

2) Tension; I never want to play a character that doesn't have some sort of struggles that will constantly cause them hiccups. It's great!

3) Growth; while it's something difficult that I'm still mastering, and while it applies much differently in writing a book, I want everything the chracter does to advance the agenda of those around him, the story, or their personal growth.

Hey, All:

I've been playing around with the idea of running 5e for some friends, but have never run the system before (and only ever played about three sessions).  Are any of you interested in a mechanics-heavy test game, so that I can get a feel for it and get my 5e legs under me?

Hi Artifex,
I've played in a few 5e games but never really got the hang of it. I'd love to join and learn more about 5e, too.

Groovy.  If we can pick up two to four more players, I'll be ready to jump in and get this running.  If no more players jump in, I'd be amenable to DMing a solo game, if that works for you.

I am interested. I have tried to join 3 one shots on rpol to learn the basics of 5e but all of them stopped shortly after starting.

Exellent.  Both of you PM me some quick ideas for characters, or let me know what you're thinking of playing, if you please.  Hopefully we'll get another couple of players to jump in as well.

Darn. I wish I didn't have so many games going so I could join this. I too am learning 5e. I played it for 1st time at GenCon last year. I've hopefully found a live in-person game here on Guam that also wants to play 5e.

Like I said before, this is mostly to learn the mechanics.  I'm not opposed to turning it into a real game at some point, but I wanted to get a start on getting a better grasp on the internals of the system.

If you'd like to just throw a character together, I suspect that this won't add much burden to what you're already doing.
