In reply to Garret (msg # 550 of the Old The Netherworld Plane - Game Thread):

A grin comes over the face of Pickpocket when he hears what you say to the lass. "Aye, aye. It was just a test, Garret, and may I say you passed it easily."

The girl gives you a demure smirk as she snatches the coins, tosses the tool pouch back to you, and flashes a toothy smile at Pickpocket as she races past him through a back door.

"She's a feisty thing. Her brother is all looks which works to his advantage in certain situations, but he's as soft as a creamed puff. She could whup him with a hand tied behind her back."

Pickpocket offers you a drink. "It'll do the job but the flavor is rather unremarkable," he claims as he fills a pewter mug and hands it to you.

"You're back early. Problems?"

Pickpocket takes a look at the amulet. While he examines it, he speaks.

"I'll follow up on this Victor fella; so don't you worry bout him no more."

He hands the amulet back to you.

"Take it over to Pulmer's Magic Shop down the street. Give'im this," he says flipping you an unusual coin. "He'll identify it for you."

After a moments thought he adds, "Consider it your pay for the last job."

Looking out the window, he curses softly. "There's a fight I'd like to see at the Inn, so I don't have time to talk right now. I might have something I'll need you to do tomorrow, so come by tomorrow evening to discuss it."

Aye boss,

says Garret with a grin, he twirls the coin back and forth on his knuckles as he goes to the magic shop. Then before entering he inspects the coin in detail to see if it is something he knows or he could forge.

Then he enters.

Hoi, Mr Pulmer? 'ave you got a moment?

He will offer the coin and ask for any info on the amulet and the 6 potions he has.

The coins surfaces roil as if a dark storm is crossings over them. There isn't any other image to be seen on either side. The coin is of no metal that you can recall, in fact, its lightness defies it being any type of metal at all. Fooling around with it finds that the coin is flexible even perhaps elasticized in some way.

You come to a dilapidated building whose sign says, The Magic Shoppe. You look at it with trepidation, and think it must be magic keeping the building standing. Tentatively you open the door. The door falls of its hinges, and crashes to the ground narrowly missing you.

"Squawk!"

A large black raven erupts in a fit of flapping wings from a perch it was using near the door.

The disruption is followed by another crashing, and breaking of glass sound that comes from behind a curtain near the rear of the establishment.

"Oy! Fire!"

CRASH!

"Hot!"

Bang

"Oh ow ooo!"

You hear a loud hissing sound. The sound is like a fire being extinguished by water. Then, a disheveled, very rotund man with long sideburns and a goatee appears from behind the curtain. He's wearing what looks like silk pajamas that had a burn hole in them as he approached, but disappears with a flick of his hand as he arrives in front of you.

The raven settles down, and another flick of his hand has the door returning to its normal position within the door frame.

"Yes, yes. Uhh, what can I do for you?"

You explain what you need, and offer him the coin. He nods, and examines your offerings.

John asks Pulmer whether he'd like to buy the Ring of Wizardry. He also inquires if perhaps a deal might be made, exchanging the market rate for such a ring for enchantment services?

I.e., if a Ring of Wizardry I sells for 20,000 gold, exchange it for getting his plate armor enchanted to +3 (9000 gp), his Light Shield +1 becoming Animated (+1 to +3 enchantment = +8000 gp) and 2 augment crystals tossed in (Restful, 500 gp, and Lesser Truedeath, 2500 gp, respectively).

If I remember correctly, the value of magic items doesn't represent the resale value of magic items. I believe the resale of magic items is 1/2 that of the listed RAW price in the books. Of course, this can be adjusted by the DM where the DM needs to keep game balance but I don't do that. The ring could sell for 10,000 gp if you can find a buyer.

Then, you'll have to see if you can find the enchanted items you're wanting. I roll a particular % based on the type of item you're trying to find. You might find one, and then again you might not.

Of course you can try to see if it can be crafted. The time to craft it comes into play. In the Netherworld Plane, there will always be someone who can craft an item.

Pulmer is interested in buying the ring if the price is right. He's hesitant because he's unsure how fast he can resell it.

Last, you can always try to sell it to other player's. I allow this.

Magic Item enchantment is limited to 1000 gp per day. If two different people are handling the armor and shield, that's 9 days maximum. I think that time moves differently in the Inn than it does in the outside world, correct me if I'm wrong. As for the ring, if I sell it for 10,000, then I can still afford the 8000 for the Animated Shield enchantment. And for Pulmer, investing 10,000 gold to one day resell for 20,000 gold is a pretty good return on the investment.
I thought Pulmer WAS an enchanter, which is why I suggested a barter of enchantment services in exchange for the ring. Thus he isn't out 10000 gold.

He is. I was just letting you know about the resale of magic items being at 1/2 the book value. You can sell everything to him, and have everything made that you want at the other vendors. No problem there. I was just making sure you'd also have enough money to do that. :)

So, 9 days to enchant everything brings us to Day 15 - Morning (0900 Hours).

Please update your character sheet so I can make a copy, and update your stats on my battle planner. Thanks.

Just found out I was wrong. Lesser Truedeath crystal is 5000 gp,not 2500 gp. So I am taking the Least version, worth 1000 gp, and to make up the 1500 gp balance I'd take 2 Healing Belts (2×750 gp = 1500 gp). This way I get one and my cohort gets one. My excess equipment: Chain Shirt +1, Longsword +1, spiked Darkwood Heavy Shield, I am thinking is a good package for a cohort or wingman. Perhaps Tom from the Fort?

A set of normal arrows, 20 pcs cost 1 gp. A set of normal bolts, 10 pcs also cost 1 gp. The rules for masterwork weapons says to add 6 gp to the cost of a single unit of ammunition, such as an arrow and further says that a set of 10 masterwork arrows costs 70 gp.

So, 61 divided by 2 or 30 gp for 10 bolts. Sound right?

Thank you, Keeper

Garret wonders at this, he had meant to donate some of his loot for the apprenticeship and to talk to his old teacher, but the fellow moved on. Garret wonders for a moment about going to join him as he walks back to the other shops.

After getting all his new gear and outfitting himself Garret feels rather dapper with his new dark blueshine mithrel shirt, soft vest which is a dark mustard yellow and boots stained dark almost black with a hint of green crocodile hide. He wears a black backpack and has simplified his gear, no longer bristling with different weapons, he carries a white handled dagger on one side and a black steel dagger on his chest under the vest.

He's feeling happy and light with all the changes, but he is concerned about Mr Pickpockets. Garret did not imagine coming back to find there is no general store and no Mr Pickpockets.

Keeper, do you think he was under stress to leave? Perhaps I can go seek him out and ensure he is well?

The Keeper is unable to help you in regards to your questions as he knows nothing about the whereabouts of the man, nor anything that might regard him personally.

GM - Our group is looking for a next adventure, is this possibly a hook I can take back to the group? I can't tell if this may be a hook or is it just that you are clearing out old NPC traders now that we are populating Netherworld with PC and NPC traders using the new system?

In reply to Garret (msg # 55):

It's not a hook, and it is a temporary removal of old NPC traders. I left an option in case this new thing falls on its face. So far, it's looking like it's going to work so you may not see him again. Also, I'm at my spring limit for running games as I am want to do more outdoor things than sit at a computer. Maybe one of the other GM's might run something, but I cannot speak for them.
