Re: OOC Thread for General Use
Anchor's End
an OSR campaign pitch

Adventure Title: Anchor's End
Description of Game:  Frontier Exploration, Ancient Dungeons, Urban Politics, Possible Frontier Settlement.  Similar in themes and gameplay to a more Sword-and-Sorcery style Kingmaker.
Game Starting level: 1
Game/House rules:  Using the Solo Adventurer OSR rules variant found in Scarlet Heroes, but minus the Red Tide campaign setting, replacing that instead with a more generic frontier, akin to the Stolen Lands from Kingmaker.

Other Information:

New, bigger, better ships were available now.   They are able to navigate and cross the Void Sea with much more reliability.  The old colony of Anchor's End on the distant continent of Vogod (named thus after the Ancient Fallen Vogodian civilization) is a new, open frontier for expansion.

Both the High King of Stormlight, and the Black Council at Dragoncliff have an invested interest in Anchor's End, and with the Void Sea conquered by the new ships, they are for the first time since the Imperial Age (when Thaumaturgical Sorcery was used to travel great distances in the blink of an eye, rather than ships) able to extend their influence beyond the limits of the the coastal waters.

Will our hero be a Mage, Warrior, Cleric, or Thief?  And will our hero align with the Pious People of Stormlight or will our hero choose to serve the Mage-Barons of Dragoncliff?  Or will our hero navigate a third, perilous path of their own choosing?

What you should know about me:

I'm not much of a tactical player, I also don't really enjoy the idea of optimization, and so the Old School suits me well.  Simple means fewer crunchy bits, and the light rules allow for more narrative freedoms on every level of game play.

If you like the idea of taking part in a Sword and Sorcery adventure, if you enjoy the lurid purple prose of the pulp tales that gave birth to the genre.  If you like the idea of describing your character's sweat, the squish of the mud that has leaked into your boots, as you slog your way through the flooded jungle toward the overgrown temple to a Long Forgotten Serpent God.  If you're more interested in portraying the feeling of insignificance as your character, for the first time, lifts his eyes up and sees that the cliff face he's been scaling is the shin of a statue of such a scale that could only have been created by a God, then this might be the game for you.

The catch, there's always a catch:

I'm only taking one player.  One.  That's it.  I'm open to the idea of adding other heroes to the setting at some point in the future.  But for now, just one.  That's all.  If there's interest beyond just one person, that means I'm going to have to say no.   If there's a lot of interest, I'll have to say no a lot.  I don't like doing that.  I think people who play D&D and games like it are the coolest people on earth.  And if you're reading this far into this, you're obviously one of the coolest of the cool.

My Style:

I don't plan on taking this seriously.  At least, I plan to be serious about the style, the aesthetic, the feel, the genre, the world building.  The adventure.  But if you get hung up on rules or balance or that weird concept of fairness, you may find me to be quite frustrating.  If you like reading some gonzo shit, though, you'll like me just fine enough.

One Last Note:

I want to find someone who has a creative vision that jives with my own (without judgment for creative directions that vary, different strokes!).  I'm not necessarily looking for the first person to express interest.  I'm looking for someone who is as hungry for exactly this sort of thing like I am and has the right attitude and drive to be a partner.  It's a solo game.  So there will be heavy lifting for the hero player!

I hope this is well received, and of course, I'm available for questions, comments, concerns and criticism here, or in PMs or whatever!

Re: OOC Thread for General Use
I keep receiving PM's from Applicants asking if the Netherworld Plane Campaign is accepting players. The answer is yes, every Applicant has access to this campaign.

The thread is always open to any new players wanting to find a game to play in. Read the introduction threads which are the first 9 messages starting at Page 1 of the thread.

You can post in the game thread even if you don't have a character made yet. Post your OOC comments, or questions in the color orange, or PM me or insert a private line to me if you want to keep others from seeing them.

After you get an idea of how the setting is set up, you can make your 1st level character.

There are many options for adventures listed on the bulletin board. The innkeeper or bartender might have more information on these adventures. If you have an interest in forming a party for one of them, or even going it alone in a solo game just let me know.

Once you've made your character, you can start posting in the thread to find a group or start a solo game. Even if you don't want to play in a game yet, you can still roleplay in the inn. I envision the Wayfarer's Inn as not only the starting point for finding a game, but as a medieval in-character chat room of sorts.

Don't just sit on the sidelines waiting for something to happen, start making something happen by becoming active in the inn. It's as easy as that.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use
Here is a statement based on a PM I got regarding those who are already in the The Netherworld Plane Campaign, or are considering playing in it.

If you're already on an adventure, you can only have access to the The Netherworld Plane Campaign thread when you return to the Wayfarer Inn.

Everyone started this game in The Netherworld Plane Campaign, and can return to the Wayfarer Inn at any time as stated in the introduction to the game. You can have only one character in this game. If you want to set up a shop, you can do that when you return to the inn during downtime or any other time you decide to return to the inn. Your shop can even be run by another NPC hireling while you're away adventuring.

In this game, you have full control over what you do. If you don't like an adventure, such as the adventure your currently in, you can leave it at any time and return to the inn to find an adventure you might like better, set up a shop, or just take a break from adventuring to do some other downtime activity. You aren't confined or stuck with a group, or in doing something you might not want to do.

I have a hundred or more modules from 3.5 and a majority of the Pathfinder modules. You can just about bet I have any major module. If the bulletin board doesn't have an adventure to your liking, just let me know which adventure you'd like to try, and I'll set it up.

There shouldn't be a reason why we even have one Applicant with this kind of setup, and offering, but we do. My goal is to find people a game to play in, and I'm determined to thin out the Applicant ranks to where there isn't anyone being called an Applicant.

Thanks!

VACATION ALERT!

This is fair warning that starting May 18, 2019 thru June 01, 2019 I will be going on vacation. I will not be posting at all May 18 thru May 24, but, if I can, will try to post during the other days.

Thanks!

I will be at PaizoCon from the 24th of May through the 27th, but may be taking the 28th off as well, to recuperate.  If I can post I will, but don't expect it.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use
We still have 10 Applicants without a game, and these Applicants have been Applicants for long enough.

I have one player starting in the The Netherworld Plane Game Thread. Now's the time to join in and find a game. There are many options for this in the The Netherworld Plane Game Thread which every applicant has access to.

If you just want to remain an Applicant, fine, but let me know in a PM, because if I don't get the remaining Applicants in a game by the weekend, I'm going to remove them from the game room.

Thanks!

Re: OOC Thread for General Use
Just a reminder that my vacation starts this weekend. See the GM & PLAYER: Requests for Vacation and Time Off From Game thread for the details.

I'll be watching the game to answer questions if I can, so don't up and disappear because you think I may not post. I'm an addict, and even though the wife says I'll have no time to post, that doesn't mean I won't. LOL!

I know the feeling! I am just going all out weird on my character.  The Factotum is the class I never before got a chance to play...

Anyone think of any better feat at third level for a drow than master of poisons?
