I am going on a cross-country trip this week. I'll have net access when I'm not on the road, but posting may be delayed and/or impaired due to traveling or exhaustion. Pulling out tomorrow morning!

Tarl, I'll change my post here, and hope I roll high! [Nope, darn it.] I have the staff, too, but can't find where I copied the info on it, and don't have time to go digging here. Although, I think it does better that a CLW, so if possible, she'll use the staff to heal Tarl rather than a CLW, and use the CLW on the High Scrivener. He's still on his feet, after all, and not likely to be fighting ice zombies (given they're likely all former priests under him...).

I'm assuming that while the zombies are bound they can be attacked without much risk.

Heh, yeah, I could have done without her getting herself kicked like that, too! She's new (just got her a month ago), and isn't quite used to the fact that by her standards, the rest of my herd plays rough. She was an alpha at her old home, and hasn't gotten used to the fact that she's not even on the short-list for being alpha in my herd.

Treating the wound should only take ~20 minutes; right now, it's taking almost 2 hours, because she hasn't caught on yet that this is not optional. Especially the painful part. She hasn't managed to bite, kick, strike, trample, or otherwise injure me yet, but she's managed to make it really, really challenging!

Tarl's about out for the count after that last attack.   I think we're out of our league on this one.

Did my attacks do no damage because they missed or did I hit but the witch resisted the blade?  If it seems like Tarl might guess that he needs a flaming weapon then I'll need to change tactics.

What is the status of the cold in the temple? Is it still icy cold? Should we be getting out while we can, to heal and chat outside? Or did killing the creature drop the temp back to something survivable?

Once I know that... I hunted down the info on Auril's staff, so Raissa can lay on some solid healing all around with that. Just need to know if we need to relocate first, as one way or another, her flame blade has to be about to go out!

Okay, I looked it up... Dalmar has the plate armor & tower shield, Rhun had the morningstar. Update your character sheet, Dalmar -- or throw a note on it in the scratchpad & save it. I try to save post dates/message number/thread, too, so if nothing else, I can go look it up and find it fairly quickly. :) (Forgot to do that with the staff, but it's in the scratchpad now!)

At the same time as his ghostly shape is dissolving again into thin air, the mossy ground around the gravestone is opening up. As if they are born from the soil, the armor, weapon and shield, which have only seconds before been worn by the warrior, are now lying at your feet.

Don't forget what Dalmar's magical shield from the Helmite had done:

Dalmar's brave action of trying to block any attacks especially against the vulnerable spellcasters, leads to a weird effect: as soon as he brandishes his newfound magical shield, the symbols on the front side of it start to glow, shedding parts of the paraelemental in its warm light. Already slowed by Raissa's spell, the creature is unable to avoid the magic of the shield, and with a booming sound of cracking ice the paraelemental is sent back to the plane where it had been summoned from!

In'chath:
potion of extra healing
potion of heroism
philter of persuasiveness

Did we divvy the goodies up?

Dalmar or I should have the potion of heroism.

Antien the philter

Raissa the healing potion?

Re: OOC Talk cont.
Dungeon Master:
Dalmar's brave action of trying to block any attacks especially against the vulnerable spellcasters, leads to a weird effect: as soon as he brandishes his newfound magical shield, the symbols on the front side of it start to glow, shedding parts of the paraelemental in its warm light. Already slowed by Raissa's spell, the creature is unable to avoid the magic of the shield, and with a booming sound of cracking ice the paraelemental is sent back to the plane where it had been summoned from!

How would we characterize that effect?

So, I approach my my 30th anniversary with my lovely wife.  We mark these milestones with special bucket list trips.  So tomorrow, we head off for a quite difficult and perhaps scary adventure.   I don't know if I'll have much access or time till Mid-May to post.  Despite the normal travel worries, as a 50 year old plus desk jockey, we have a 4 day hike, with one day being a 4000 foot rise that tops out at 14,000 feet, I hope to live long enough to wonder if that is wise.  Please NPC Antien as need be and I hope to be back around the 15th of May.

We have the horse we've been using to pull the cart. (For just a cart, it didn't need to be all that drafty to begin with, and if it is, then we can just use it as our pack animal, instead of getting a couple mules.) Then we'd just need appropriate tack for it (saddle/bridle/saddlebags or packsaddle & panniers).

Yeah, I live on a flood plain. Not a big deal, unless I'm trying to get in or out. Put ~200 miles on my car before I finally got home, and barely made it in then (I pushed my odds hard, on not flooding my car).

They haven't been out to repair the roads near me yet, and I got stuck in the deep sand at the end of my street, where a wash cuts across it, on my way here a bit ago.  Fortunately, I learned how to drive on ice and snow way back when, and many of the same principles apply to deep sand and mud, so I was able to get free.

Hoping they tractored the roads today, finally. Getting out through the sand is a bit tricksy -- and already getting old!

Started back to work last Thursday (and missed Friday, thanks to the flooding). Students came back on Monday, and it's been the usual start-of-the-year chaos since then. So far though, admin's stayed out of our way and let us handle things, which is a nice change for this group.

Rolled a natural 20 with one of the arrows, rolled a d100 but the chart says for edged weapons, not sure if it applies to arrows.

The staff can only do two healings a day, so if Raissa uses it on the horse, she can't used it on Dalmar until the next day (by which point she can have more healing spells, too). And before we head off again... we should all get healed up. Heading out when all our close-combat fighters are at half hp isn't a good idea!

So, is In'chath even still around to help with healing? Or did she get squished by a rock while no one was looking?

For your convenience (former Posts):

"Some of those gates are known, some aren't. Far too the east from here for example, in Myth Drannor there is one, that is rather famous. But I doubt the sorceress is interested in something so far away. It would be a good idea to alert the Knights but alas they have no real base and they are hard to find. The best chance to encounter one it probably at one of those gates, which doesn't help us right now...
But fortunately, the journals I have been reading lately mention one up here in the north. And by chance or fate, it is said to be a gate to the elemental plane of ice. In the journal its location was described as 'where the ice flows down from the backbones of the earth'.
, the High Scrivener reveals.

"Brother Gernot, fetch me a map of the North, quick!"

Some minutes later, said monk return with a map showing Icewind Dale and its surroundings.

[...]

The High Scrivener nods, listening to your planning and thoughts.

"I agree, the Iceflow River it must be, but where exactly would the gate be...? I am afraid you have to find out on your own in the Spine of the World", he says with a pensive look on his face.

"The gate itself would certainly be guarded in some way. Maybe even by one of the Tyrean Knighs. And Auril might have her part in it as well. A gate to the elemental plane of ice where her mortal enemy Cryonax is imprisoned would be in her interest to be kept shut. And Deneir beware if that sorceress will be able to open it!"

He turns to Raissa: "Auril accepts offers mostly in form of challenges. Many followers expose themselves to the merciless cold and try to survive without much help to prove themselves worthy and tell Auril that they can survive with only the trust in the winter goddess."

Thanks, all. I think I'm making a recovery, although the battle's not completely over. I'm being cautious with my energy to avoid relapsing, so I spent the last week at home and mostly in bed, and I'm maintaining the no sweets (aside from honey), no dairy drill. Considering cheese is a staple of my diet, I'm mostly down to meat, rice, and potatoes. Boredboredboredbored....

Out to replenish supplies -- need more tea, honey, and cough drops!

Still pursuing a full night's sleep. Either the decongestant wears off too soon, or the naproxen does. Somehow, I either pinched a nerve or triggered a muscle spasm in my trap; feels as if there's a knife in my shoulders just left of the spine -- freaking relentlessly painful! Trying to find a position to lie in that doesn't make it hurt worse is a considerable challenge. :P

Yeah, cheese is one of my staples. Since I can't have wheat products, "fast food" when I'm in town tends to mean a chunk of cheese from the convenience store. Guess I need to pre-pack some bags of nuts to keep in my computer bag, because potato chips just don't meet nutritional requirements.

I love to snack on cheese as well.  Nuts if you can tolerate them are probably a more healthy snack.  I keep a bag of almonds around on which to munch.

I can definitely empathize on the being sick for the holidays thing, Tjelb! Hope your recovery is quick.

Aside from disliking peanuts, I'm a big fan of nuts. (Which explains why my friends and I get along so well, perhaps.... Heheh.)

LOL You need to look into a bath, too, I guess!

I'm holding off on posting Raissa's spell, JIC Antien managed to talk any dwarves into coming along -- since he's doing that the same day of the fight, but she'd be doing her spell in the morning.

LOL Good for you, Tarl!

And Dalmar, you're correct -- Raissa was waiting 'til morning to cast her spell -- first to see who actually showed up to go, and second, she had to pray for it in the morning beforehand.

You hired and befriended some folks to accompany you in the spine of the world. A dwarf and 3 humans.
The sorceress that you follow has a band of about 7-8 people with her.

Ok, guys, I am back to give you the sad news that I won't be able to continue this game for the time being. I cannot make any prognosis for the future but in order to not keep you hanging around waiting for a response from me, I have to call it a day. The recent years with you were great and I have been thoroughly enjoying every part of our adventures. It was an honor to game with you!

IF I am going to come back, I'll let you know in case you will still be interested to continue or start something new.

Cheers guys and take care, all of you!

Thank you so much for the update and it is understandable.  We did have a great few years in adventuring and you were right there to keep us interested.

Please don't forget about me if you do come back cause I would love to see where all In'chath ends up in her upcoming years.
