Re: Out of Character and Absences

Childhood friends?  Families were close.  My idea was that he was secretly on board Meara's family yacht during the attack to meet with his mother about his return from the Edge.

Meara might have been kept in the dark about his being there.  Perhaps, like many others, she believes Brun died with his sisters.  He definitely does not look like the handsomly dressed/coiffed Venusian debutant princeling that she knew.

I think Euryleia is my Everything fits best....  Can use to bolster defense and draw strength... But it can be used against if she is damaged, insulted, etc...

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I'm very into that aspect, Brun. Very cool.

Do you think maybe he took the name Brun after his disappearance, then? Perhaps Meara wouldn't recognize him except by a different name.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Good to know, Brun!  And I also like Gwydion's idea that he took the name after the accident.  Just you wait until she finds out who he really is.  Hugs and kisses and tears - probably in the middle of a very important meeting of nobles, too.  Gotta live up to her reputation!

I also just looked up titles to see what Meara would be called using the good ol' UK heirarchy for royalty and nobility.

She's the daughter of Her Royal Highness, Grand Duchess of Tir Chonaill, younger sister of Her Royal Highness Queen Valerie La Guin, which puts her in the Royal category instead of the less title-heavy Noble category.

Her title is friggin' Princess.  She'd be addressed as Her Royal Highness, Princess Meara of Tir Chonaill, and thereafter as Ma'am.  Although in this situation, I think Dame Meara Chonaill is fitting.  Still!

This was entirely unintentional and I did not mean to make her a princess.

Mind you, the "of Tir Chonaill" is important because the Queen's daughter would be The Princess Royal or just Princess, so dropping the Grand Duchy from her title would, ah, say she's more important than she is.

why is nobility so convoluted and confusing oh my god

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Hmmmmm...  How about Brun is short for his real given name.  Bruenor of Kotta.

His family did ask him to keep a low profile and not drag them into anything.

And ha! About the Princess title...  I went with Dame as its the feminine of Sir.  He really would know better.  Perhaps, especially amongst the warrior women of Venus, it's militarily respectful to refer to a Knight on the field as Dame?  Princess does not sound very Venusian....

Re: Out of Character and Absences

I like that.  We'll see how long it takes her to catch on, what with her low lineage and her nonexistent lore.

Still, Princess is simply the counterpart to Prince.  It's only a lesser title if you want it to be one.

I'd imagine most courts would go, "oh, it's just a princess- Oh it's a VENUSIAN Princess oh well that's a different matter" the mutter something about crazy backwards Venusians while also trying to order Venusian Armour parts because they're so pretty.  People are silly that way.

But yes, Dame and Lady are the counterparts to Sir and Lord.  Although Britain apparently uses "Ma'am" instead of "Dame."

But I like Dame better, so to heck with "Ma'am."

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Brun, you rolled a -2 on your roll. Your Intrigue skill is +2, so your total is 0. That means you tie and get a boost. If you spend your Fate Point for a +2, you succeed, thus you'd create the Aspect you want and get one free invoke. Make sense?

Also, wasn't sure if I was clear from reading your post, there is a welcome banquet tonight, but the Ball isn't for two days, the night before the final match is scheduled.

Speaking of which, would everybody roll a d16 and post the results here? I've made up a little tournament bracket and I need to figure out where to seed you guys.

I noticed Meara is using one of her bio-lines to track Fate points. That's a really good idea, since you'll be spending them and gaining them pretty frequently, it doesn't hurt to have a spot to keep track.

Yeah, spotted the fate points mistake. Fixed it.

And for the rest...  I misread...so poop.  I'm now going to delete all my work and rethink.

What you had would have worked with a little editing. You're welcome to rewrite if you wanted something different though.

I have you slotted into the bracket at position 11. Thanks.

Looks like I'm slot 9.  That means Brun and I would face off in the second or third matchups, possibly.  Assuming either of us get that far.

Re: Out of Character and Absences

Correct. Assuming you and Brun win your initial matches, you'd face each other in the second round. This would have worked out better with an even number of PCs, but it's doable with three, it's just two of you would have to face each other earlier in the tournament assuming everyone wins their matches. That's why I'm having you guys roll it randomly, it seems most fair that way.

Brun, were you trying to create a scene aspect? If so, what exactly?

Gwydion, you're free to roll if you would like to do so.

Meara, you're up.

Same as before.  Tried to think of something else...and then got busy...  Ultimately decided I'd stick with it and just rewrite the post.  Updated new post with aspect specifics.

Oh, you have no idea Gwydion...This is why I love FATE. All my machinations, and the players just do it to themselves.

I'm calling that a success. Name the aspect you created and you get one free invoke.

I gotta look up the mechanics of creating an advantage, why it would be done, and what I could use it for, but I should have a post up tonight.
