1b: Meara vs. Sir Ein Illodo

The energy output of Brunhilr is higher that Meara has ever seen it thanks to the modifications of the previous evening.

Meara's opponent is a Knight named Ein Illodo. He pilots a Lash Armour and he has a reputation for being a dirty fighter.

Waiting in her cockpit Meara watches a countdown on her HUD. When it reaches zero, a tone sounds. The duel has begun!

OOC:
The combat area is in space.

There are five zones connected like so:

You will start in Start 1 your opponent starts in Start 2. Moving along the lines is moving one zone. There are no barriers unless someone makes one.

Here's your opponent's initiative roll. If you beat it, you go first. Roll Mark and add any relevant stunt or system mods.

Grinning inside her Armour, Meara could feel the increase in response and power from Brunhildr's reactor.  The very moment the match started, she dashed forward with a lunge, the Ellida Boosters in Brunhildr's legs allowing her to close the short distance so quickly she may as well have warped.  It is a very good thing that she is completely hidden from view within her Armour, as she has a slightly crazed expression on her face.  She's just a bit enthusiastic about the tournament and being able to do what she loves most - pilot Brunhildr.

Not sure what bonuses I get from those rolls, but I'm sure they're fun.  Not sure I could have asked for a better start, really.

Meara sudden charge takes Sir Ein unaware and Brunhildr's Lævateinn Blade scores a gouge in the shoulder of Sir Ein's armor, but the damage is largely superficial.

As Meara darts away Sir Ein lashes out with Dirge's Tungsten Whip trying to entangle his foe.

On the station the crowd gasps at the bold opening gambit wondering if the Venusian Princess hasn't taken a gamble that will cost her.

Effortlessly evading the whip, Meara maneuvers Brunhildr directly behind Dirge in an elaborate gymnastic rotation and grins.  "Behind you," she whispers before thrusting her blade upwards, hoping to completely disable his Armour with this second attack.

I seem to be rolling consistently, at least!
Using all the same systems I did before, but this time I'm also moving into the Start 2 zone if possible
Trying to figure out what succeeding on that defense with style truly lets me do.

Sir Ein proves too skilled to be taken out by Meara's Coup de Grace, but she does manage to score another solid hit on the armor itself. Sir Ein turns Dirge away from the blow and darts backwards before firing a Medusa guided missile at Brunhildr.

Burning hard to evade the missiles, Meara finds that, without the boost in the reactor's efficiency to allow her to give that extra bit of power to the thrusters, she would have been hit.  Making a mental note to thank Iliza (probably with a big hug, because social graces should never get in the way of a proper thank you!), Meara grits her teeth and glares at Dirge, rather upset that it came so close to wounding her beautiful Brunhildr.  Noticing the nuances of the increased efficiency and power distribution, Meara grins and lunges forward once again, heading straight through the missile volley with a wide swipe of her blade.

Brunhildr's increased energy output overpowers Sir Ein and the Dirge. The Armour and it's pilot are sent reeling from a heavy cut delivered by Meara.

Meara's attack left a deep gouge in Dirge's breastplate. Sir Ein fires another guided missile in hopes of regaining the advantage, but the ferocity of Meara's onslaught doesn't leave him much room to line up a shot.

Her risky maneuver, while paying off, causes Meara to be overconfident in her maneuverability as she tries to evade the sudden flurry of a second missile volley, but moves to close the distance between them and keep it closed so she can slash her opponent once again, this time aiming for his whip arm.

Sir Ein manages to skirt around Brunhildr as her pilot over commits to the attack. He realizes she is targeting Dirge's whip, so he lashes out with it hoping, once again, to entangle is foe.

OOC:
A tie on an attack means he gets a Boost. He'll take Overconfident Opponent. He's going to burn that up immediately on defense.

While she will normally remain hot-headed through an entire fight, she could see her opponent getting desperate, and her confidence remained high.  Possibly too high, but that recent exchange made her re-evaluate her opponent a bit more.  Confident she may be, but she also gives credit where it is due, and Sir Ein is a decent pilot who knows his Armor.  Having closed the distance and remained inside his reach, she once again tries to sever the whip at a joint, hoping to do damage at a minimal repair cost.

Because even if she wants to win, she loves Armor.

I'll take Desperate Opponent as a boost, which I'll be using on my attack roll again.

Dirge's Tungsten whip is unable to find it's target and Meara's retaliatory strike aims right for it, but Sir Ein manages to turn away from the blow. Rather than strike the arm she was aiming for, Meara's blade digs into the back of Dirge damaging its systems judging from the series of small explosions that erupt from the armor. Sir Ein uses the momentum from the blow to push away from the Venusian Princess and fires another missile.

Once again narrowly dodging the missile, Meara pushes Brunhildr in a risky maneuver and flies quickly past Dirge, slashing at him as she passes.  She's trying to be both stylish for the crowd and drive home the point that she's damaged Dirge so much that it would really just be better for Sir Ein to yield so there will be less damage to repair.  After all, this is a test of skill, not a battle to the death.  However, the thought of holding back may end up being her undoing.

OOC:

I can move two sections instead of one if there are no conditions and attack from one area away with melee, so I'm just using the above as flavor text to describe moving to Above Callisto and attacking him with melee.

Meara's attack manages to disarm Sir Ein and Dirge of, ironically, it's tungsten whip, but Sir Ein manages to hold steady trying to get a lock on his opponent. He fires another salvo as Brunhildr streaks passed.

He'll create the boost Optimal Range.

Evading away from the salvo, Meara outruns the missiles before suddenly stopping and dashing back through them at the last second, then taking aim at Dirge as two sizable cannons emerge from Brunhildr's chest in a totally-not-suggestive manner and begin to glow as they gather energy for a shot.  Suddenly, a pair of energy blasts streak through the arena towards Dirge, the beams arcing as they travel and Brunhildr vents the heat.  The entire time, Meara is letting out a quiet, high-pitched squee within the cockpit as she has been so thoroughly enjoying the trouncing she's been giving Sir Ein Illodo.  The match has unfortunately done nothing for her humility.

OOC:

Moving to Callisto Surface, so I'm now two zones away.

It's a near thing, but Sir Ein and Dirge manage to evade the twin blasts from Brunhildr. Despite the damage sustained to his Armour, Sir Ein pursues Meara and continues to target the Venusian Princess's Armour with a cavalcade of missiles.

OOC:
You tied Sir Ein's attack with your defense, so he gets a boost, A Precious Few Seconds, that he'll burn on his defense roll.

Dodging once more with a much better bit of room, Meara sighs and flies in to end it with her blade again, having tried to pull back and give him a chance to surrender.  "Just yield already!  Your Armour is almost completely nonoperational!  Only a fool fights to the death in a tournament!" she exclaims as she flies Brunhildr past Dirge, slashing at whatever she can to dissuade him from fighting even further.

Moving past him to Start 1 if possible and attacking from there, once again the drive by is flavor text.

Meara's blow nearly severs Dirge's Missile Pack from the Armour itself. With his last offensive weapon completely crippled Sir Ein Illodo has no choice, but to heed Meara's advice. "I yield." The contempt in his voice is unmistakable. He refuses any offer of aid to help his crippled Armour return to the station.


When Meara reaches the station's hangar Freyr is waiting for her. "Well fought, Princess. You're still as reckless as ever, but at least your technique was solid. Now that these others have seen you fight, don't expect your next victory to come as easily."

With a forced pout put on mostly for show, Meara replies to her handmaiden and mentor, "Well, I want to have a challenge.  If I cannot overcome the other pilots here even when they know what I can do, how am I going to deal with Emergent forces?  I thought they reported back on what they saw so the next wave would be prepared for the ones they just fought."
