A continuation from where the movie left off.

Considering whether to make this the story about Whedon's main characters or merely a random crew.

Main Character idea a go.  But now the decision as to who to have run them.

I have been watching the GM/Player forums.  No new names, and no requests for canon.

This game might end up being a one-on-one campaign.

It all depends on the job that opens up

Mal has received a call from an old friend.

The Wave was not good.

Nor was it necessarily bad.

It was a job.

That in itself might be good for someone hiring.

Only this job had already been taken, by his friend.  And that job entailed bringing Serenity down.

So much for friendship when it came to staying afloat.

Inara began protesting at once.  "Mal, how can you call this man a friend?"

"If he weren't a friend, he wouldn't have warned me that he's coming.  He was paid in advance.  The coin weren't large enough to keep him quiet.  So that means someone is spreading a lot of it around thin in order to make life difficult for us.  It also means he's likely not the only one who's looking to cash-in on us.  It just means I have to step twice as lively until this whole thing blows over."

"Is there any chance of that ever happening?" She asked him.

"Not as I know of anytime soon.  Still, we should have you to your next rendezvous in time.  And your clients don't negotiate publicly so like-as-not, none are the wiser of where we're headed.  That makes us plenty-in-the-sun for now."

Three days later, Serenity broke atmo and the flames danced over the hull with the color of autumn leaves.   Inara was looking out just then, and placed her hands on the pilot's shoulder.

"That's very pretty," she told Wash.

"That it is.  But it ain't so pretty as my wife."

Inara smiled.  "Nothing ever will be."

"Unless she makes a baby.  I hear babies are cute.  And if my wife makes em' they gotta be good lookin' right?"

He turned to look but Inara had already left, shaking her head as she did so.

Mal brushed by Inara on her way down the hatch.  The silk of her robe was soft on the back of his hand. Like the silk she wears... soft, but unbreakable.

He moved into the cockpit.    "How soon?" he asked the pilot.

A might sooner than we planned.   Hey, did you see Inara?  She was here just a second ago."

"In the hall."

"Did she say anything to you?  We were talking about making babies."

"You and her?"   Mal asked incredulously.

"Well me and my wife actually."

Mal looked at him, wondering where his brain was.

"Oh... you meant...  not making... yeah.  Well... we'll be landing soon."

"Best keep focused on that."

"I'm better at flying."

"So it would seem."
