Zedia Army Courtyard
The Zedian Army Courtyard is a symbol of strength. A no-nonsense area, the soldiers there stand and train with determination, honor, and loyalty.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
The Zedian Courtyard was already alive with activity. The soldiers had mostly arisen before the sun rise, and were forming up their ranks, ready to go over their drills and take orders from their commanding officers. Rumor had spread through the tents that some group of mercenaries had actually brought in the outlaw and traitor Zebadiah Custoh and his cronies, just over night like it was nothing. Many were wondering what this giant warriors must look like to go against such odds and survive.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Choryn walked boldly into the courtyard, he carried himself in much the same manner as one would expect a scout or a ranger. His eyes seemed to notice everything without directly looking at anything.  His gait was confident, and his gear was clean and well cared for, but in no way polished infact scrapes and slight dings could be seen in the metal on his person, and nicks and scratches that had been functionally repaired showed on his cloth and leather.  As he strode to a place near the paymasters desk to wait for Alice to arrive.  It had been a shame about the young part dragon, but that was the breaks of being a bounty hunter sometimes you won, and sometimes losing meant you didn't walk away from that job.

Finding a place to rest he leans his back against a wall and continues to survey the courtyard.  His gaze lingers momentarily on the formations and the sergeants and officers drilling the men before him.  He casually picks at the scar across his nose and waits.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Lavender had woken late that morning.  She was slightly flustered as Choryn had woken her before he departed.  She had been up most of the night replenishing the supplies that had been depleted from her small gardens.  Luckily he had taken her bag, with all the new supplies when he left.  Despite his quiet demeanor, and occasionally impulsive behavior Choryn was nothing if not reliable.

As she zipped along just above head height towards the courtyard, her mind wanders to the newcomer. What was her name again? she considered for a moment before it came back to her, Sage, like the herb her mind wanders further to the point of going over the list of possible uses of Sage, though it strikes her that the young woman from the other day really didn't seem to have a personality that fit the herbs medicinal properties. Her thoughts turned to Custoh, she knew the man was poisoned, but it didn't seem to her like he was worth the effort if the army was just going to execute him anyways. Still she wished she'd have gotten her hands on some of the poison to break it down into it's components and analyze it.

Arriving at the courtyard she notices the soldiers in hard leather armor and mail shirts, and the highly buffed and polished plate of the knights.  Officers in scale mail mill about as sergeants in half plate drill their lines and maneuvers.  She lands on Choryn's should without a word and seats herself reminiscing on her time as a healer for the army with Will, back when he was just Will and not Lord Silverkin. The gore now was no different than then, though she remember the attemp Custoh had made to intimidate her.  Back then she probably would have lost her composure, now it hardly bothered her.  She marked as the curse of time and circumstance that people became callous to bloodshed, and hoped in the future peace would come to the world.  Until then it was time to look for Alice.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Alice entered the courtyard, almost entirely opposite to Choryn in the impression she gave off. Where Choryn had been tall, alert, and determined, Alice appeared (relatively) short-statured, unattentive, and entirely nonchalant. As she walks across the courtyard, her attention is focused on the file running back and forth over her fingernails. She walks in a straight path to where Choryn stands, casually shifting anyone else in her path out of the way. "Well, we're all here," she remarked as she reached him, still not looking up.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Near the other end of the camp sat the officers barracks, and not too far from those sat a long wooden table next to one the entrances deeper into the keep, leading to the jail. A rather official looking man sat at the table, sporting his tiny spectacles rather elegantly as he observed various paperwork on the table, shifting parchment from on bin to the next. Many bounty posters sat on the wall posted behind him, and it seemed that this man handled the bounties, along with any other paperwork that floated his way.

Choryn nodded, standing up he pulled the pay voucher that the group had received the previous evening when they had returned. "We should remove the finders fee prior to dividing out the three equal shares." He says as he starts heading for the table.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Lavender really had nothing to say, given those that knew her that was not quite a big surprise.  She tended to be a bit reserved around military settings, and was often lost in thought about the past.

The man with the glasses looked up as Choryn and Lavender approached his desk, he put down his spectacles and set down his quill for a moment once they got within conversation range.

"Good morning sir. How may I help you?"

Choryn offers the pay voucher to the man. "We are here to collect the reward for the capture of Custoh and his associates." His voice is still soft, but slightly less so than normal. "I think you'll find everything is in order." He finishes crossing his arms and standing in a relaxed stance in front of the man.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Alice continued filing her nails just behind Choryn, still apparently oblivious. She paused for a moment, looking them over, fingers outstretched, while she waited for the clerk's response. She didn't suppose he'd take them seriously at first, but her file was rather pointy at the end, come to think of it.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
The man stopped for a second, adjusting his spectacles to examine the legitimacy of the voucher handed to him by the tall ranger. He raised an eyebrow as he looked at the group. A ranger, a fairy, and somewhat creepy looking girl.

"So....you all...you took down Custoh and all of his men?"

He looked over the document in his hand once more, and after accepting that it was indeed legitimate, he stood up from his table, stamping the voucher with one of the various stamps at the desk.

"Well, congratulations on your impressive bounty. Excuse me while I retrieve your reward."

The man bowed his head and then walked back towards the tower, disappearing behind the open iron gate. Not long after the man had left, another man approached the group still waiting at the table for their reward.

"You've gotta be kidding me! You all took down that bounty!?"

The man did not look military, he was much too dirty and carried his own weaponry. His down hood showed a scarred face and an uneven beard, he was most likely a mercenary or bounty hunter.

"I spent a week tracking that group in the woods, and I get there only to find a bloody battleground of a camp, and you're telling me I got there too slow to a giant, a pixie, and a wee lass?"

Alice clenched her teeth in an incredibly forced grin, tensing her shoulders and raising them up to her neck, clenching her fists as she did so. Then, turning slowly towards the man, she asks, in a low, somewhat threatening voice, "What was that you said? I'm not sure I heard you clearly..........."

Choryn turns and looks at the man with a blank look on his face.  He raises an eyebrow at the man and crosses his arms.  He continues to stare at the man his body language inviting the man to stick his foot further into his mouth.

At the word pixie Lavender snaps out of her reverie, "Pixie!? PIXIE?!" her voice is loudly rings through the courtyard. "Do I look like a Pixie, like a little bug eating, hide wearing, misleading conniving PIXIE! And the bounty, it's no wonder you missed it! You are 50 years to soon junior, go back to your dirty nappies, and your dirt box, you... you... !" She sputters as her rage causes her to run out of words, but her dagger is very suddenly in her hand, a look of rage on her face.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
This man obviously had no idea what he was walking into, and a small gathering of soldiers and other bounty hunters had turned their attention to the scene wondering how it would play out.

"How did you even take down Custoh anyways!?"

Saliva was visibly spraying form the man's mouth as his face turned just as red as Lavender's.

"I mean big fella here, maybe, but you?"

He motioned to Alice.

"Yer' not even have my weight! How couldya beat a seasoned soldier AND his lackeys!?"

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Alice took a split second to absorb the man's words, then lunged for him. She hardly noticed her left hand move down to her hip, snagging her foot-long knife as it did so, gripping it so the blade stayed opposite her thumb. Her mind barely registered her right arm moving back as her left moved forward. Her only thoughts involved something very unpleasant happening to the general area of the man's face, and with her momentum it would be difficult to stop her from accomplishing that goal.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Alice's blow would've landed had Choryn neatly stepped around her, and yanked the man sideways though not so much that the blade didn't pass a hairs breadth from the mans nose. Spinning the man around roughly "Keep talking like that and I'll let her gut you like the pig you are..." His voice is more a growl full of menace and threat, and rather loud for those who know the quiet demeanored man. Hooking his foot behind the mans he pushes the belligerent away from the group. "The smell of you sickens me, go back that shit filled hovel you call a home and hope we don't meet again."

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
The man's face shifted from anger to surprise as he got a close shave from a blade he barely saw coming. Before he could utter another word at Choryn's insults, the man with the small glasses had come back with two large military men behind him.

"Guards. Please remove this man from the courtyard."

One of the men nodded and move over to the bounty hunter and shoved him, following him towards the gate as he began to walk, the other followed behind, nodding and tipping his plated cap to the group as he left.

"There are very strict policies about fighting in the courtyard, especially if you're here for bounty business, I apologize for the disruptions he caused. And judging by your red face milady, he's probably lucky I got here before you could get ahold of him. Now then."

The man set a bag of gold down on the table with an audible thud. He signed a paper nearby and then scooted the bag closer to the group.

"Senior General Gwilaron wanted me to congratulate you on your successful bounty, and thanks to the other number of known criminals you gathered that night, your total earnings are double what Custoh would have brought in by himself, you may divide it up as you all see fit. He also wanted me to inform you that there is always room in the army for warriors such as yourselves should you ever tire of being mercenaries."

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Alice didn't notice Choryn's actions at first, noting only that she had missed. Whirling, her right hand reached to her belt as her left came forward into a defensive position before she saw the scuffle was already over. Muttering about "never getting any fun," she sheathed her blades, returning to the business at hand. She took a moment to register the man's first comment; she hadn't realized she was blushing.

She moved over to the table and picked up the coinpurse, feeling its weight. "I'm afraid army work isn't really the sort of thing I'm cut out for. Much too formal, orderly, neat-like and all. Plus, the uniforms are all stiff, you can't move smoothly. Trust me, I know what I'm good at," she finished with a wink.

With that she turned to Choryn. "So, we splitting this here or back at the Parchment?"

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Choryn nodded at the offer and puts on his business persona, "Please thank the General for his his offer, but I've done my service with a sell sword company in the employ of the army, and I'll stick to what I'm good at." He smiles at the man, "After all no one ever got rich from serving in the army, though many have profited perform tasks the army is ill suited for. If you have any other bounties or jobs there are several higher level officers who know how to contact me."

The thought of splitting the money in a relatively public venue seemed unwise to him, "the parchment, please." He says softly to Alice a hint of pink starting to show on his neck.

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Lavender had seethed in pure unadulterated rage at the man, especially at the pixie insult. She tries to break the norm when it comes to stereotypes that humans hold about the Fae folk, but the pixie insult had been too much.  Deep inside her core the magicks that she possessed flickered like a flame stoked by the wind, the healing arts that she had learned momentarily forgotten.  Thoughts of sly trickery, and subtle pranks to torment the accuser filled her head, but before she could do anything Choryn broke up the whole incident, and the paymaster arrived with a few guards who escorted the troublemaker out of the courtyard.  Taking several deep breaths until the fire in her veins had receded she sheathed her dagger, and considered the what the paymaster was saying.  "Nope," she said abruptly at the thought of joining the army. "I already did the army thing back when Lord Silverkin was surgeon.  He's a good friend actually, oh and I did promise to visit again..." She starts rambling getting side tracked as per usual. Though when Alice mentions the splitting the bounty, she agrees with Choryn. "Let's go back to the parchment for that, it's a bit more private there."

Re: Zedia Army Courtyard
Alice nodded slightly, acknowledging the others' desire for more private business settings. "Right then, suit yourself," she replied, tossing the coinpurse slightly as she readjusted her grip. "I'll be holding on to this until then, in that case. If you hurry, you might even show up before I get bored and start hiding it." With that she turned and took off at a moderate clip, appearing to take on a sudden lack of inertia much the same as when she had lunged at the ruffian earlier.
