Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
Leo tried on the cloak suggested by the shop keep and was rather fond of it. It gave him a sense of nostalgia that he hadn't felt in some time.

"Wonderful cloak, Mr. Bishop. I feel like I've worn it before. How much?"

Leo had scanned the shop a few times, but it wasn't until he awaited Bishop's response that he noticed the strange mask he had set up at the back of the shop. Leo knew he hadn't seen anything like it recently, but it looked familiar. As if he had history with a similar one.

"Hey, Bishop. I don't mean to step over any boundaries, but what's the story with that mask?"

Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
"For you, sir? Only... Hmm... 40 gold. A piece for every pocket, hm? Ha ha ha! Maybe you can be the one to discover the enchantment on this blasted thing..."
Without skipping a beat, he turned to Arture, reaching into the display case and unlocking it with a click before grabbing the buckle.
Why was he holding the blade so tight?
Was he a thief?
Perhaps. But with two rather impressive figures who followed the law, Arture would have a tough time. Reno made a note of where he was concealing his own dagger, should the problem arise.
"Ah here we go! I picked this up from a man just like you. Tough looking, carried a big nasty sort of blade. Said he carved it himself. A steal for only... 20 gold?"
The belt buckle itself was ornately carved bone, covered in swirling geometric designs, and had a small spot in the middle for a gemstone if desired.
"And we can fit a gem in there for a few more. Maybe another 60 for a nice sapphire? I suppose if you're a less flashy sort, perhaps an Onyx? That can be done for 10, including labor..."
Reno slid his way back over to another display case, just in front of the mask collection.
Play it cool, Reno.
He's just asking a question.
It doesn't have to come out of the case just yet.
"Oh, this old thing? No boundaries to be stepped over friend! It's part of a very old collection. I've been seeking the other 3 for years now, but I can never seem to find them. At this rate I fear I never will. Oh dear..." Reno looked sad for a split second, the trademark smile fading.
"But, I promised I'd wait until eternity had faded into dust before I gave up... And well... We're all still here!"
There it was! The smile had returned.
"Now if you'd just step over to the register, we can fill out your bill of sale, gentlemen, or we can peruse my fine selection some more. I have all the time in the world!"

Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
Arture watched as the dark skinned man donned the cloak, he seemed pleased with the fit. Any cloak with 40 pockets was bound to be a useful item, not to mention it hid the man's shovel. The shopkeeper procured a small bone carved belt buckle and Arture examined it with a nonplussed look on his face. The small fitting for a gem was empty and as Bishop explained the possible gemstones Arture dismissed the offer with a wave of his hand. "Thanks shopkeep, but I do believe the price is a bit rich for my blood. At any rate, I have no use for decorative baubles."
Arture glanced over at the aforementioned masks and once again at Bishop; seeing nothing else of interest, he turned about and made his way to the door.

It was becoming apparent to him, that the rare side job taken at the docks was NOT going to afford him nice things. If only the rest of his belongings weren't deteriorating at the bottom of the ocean then things might be different. He shrugged off the depressing thought and raised a hand in farewell to the dark skinned shovel wielding stranger. "Good luck shovel" he said coyly.

Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
Leo sighed at the mention of the price for the cloak. His recent transport job awarded him enough gold to eat a fine meal tonight, but he was 5 pieces short of being able to buy this wonderful cloak.

"Sorry Bishop," he said a bit defeated. "I am about 5 pieces short. I'll have to come back for this beauty."

He began removing the cloak to return it to the clerk as he listened to his story about the strange mask. Leo placed the cloak on the counter and gave Bishop a friendly smile.

"Never give up hope friend. The world may be vast, but it's not impossible to explore. You'll find them one day. And if I find out anything, I'll be sure to let you know!"

Leo turned to Arture and waved at his departure, though a bit confused at the "shovel" comment.

"So long fellow adventurer. May your day be a good one."

Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
Baubles?!
What was he expecting from MYSTICAL GEM AND PAWN SHOPPE.
People never pawn anything that's useful.
They pawn useless things that people pay lots of money for. Like wedding rings.
Ah well. Nothing to get mad over.
EXCEPT IT WAS.
No. Not today.
"Well, you have a good day then, friend. Come back sometime if you change your mind!"
His attention turned toward Leo.
"No, no, no. I insist. You give me that 35 gold, and we'll consider the 5 on credit. Bring back something interesting from your travels, or even just refer a friend. Besides, it'll help protect that wonderful shovel of yours!"
Bishop's grin intensified greatly.
The comment had made him a bit happier. Surely there would be something or someone soon. All he had to do was hold out hope.
Hope.
What a silly word.
Ever since he left the life of glamor and the crowd behind, he'd hated that word.
The smile flickered.
"Besides, I haven't made a sale all day. What kind of pawnbroker would I be if I didn't haggle a little? Ha ha ha!"
Reno began filling out a form, sliding it over to Leo.
"Just initial here, and sign your name, and this "40 Pocket Magical Leather Cloak" will be yours!"

Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
The door closed behind Arture with an inaudible click. He could vaguely hear the muffled sounds of the shopkeep haggling with the stranger as he moved away. Good for him, seemed like a decent enough fellow. He wandered aimlessly about the market considering where to go next. The evening was still young, and the city was alive with unlimited possibilities.

He slipped out of sight and into a narrow alleyway. Moving with the nimbleness of a cat, he vaulted his sinewy form into the air and began to scale the side of the building. He leaped from side to side bridging the gap between the two alley walls. Upon reaching the roof, he gently straightened his clothing and checked on his weapon. Everything is in order. He much prefered the solitude that roof walking afforded him; the view was spectacular as well. Off in the distance, bright lights seemed to dance and the sounds of laughter drifted lazily to his attentive ears. "I suppose that seems as good an option as any" he spoke to himself in a quiet tone. He set out with a slow gait, careful not to upset any loose roof tiles and subsequently betray his location to the unaware passersby.

The door slams open, ramming into the nearby merchandise, endangering the shoppe's wares as a young woman dressed in traveler's robes stumbles into the store on her, falling on backside in a bit of commotion.
"Uhhh....." she musters as she rises to a semi-sitting position. "S-Sorry..." she waves outside to a passing citizen whom she bumped in to on her way through the city.

Leo was honored that the clerk was willing to give him the cloak for less than asking price. He threw the cloak back on, placed his coin pouch on the counter and smiled brightly.

"You're a good man, Bishop. I'll be sure to repay your kindness in the future! And I'll b sure to treat this cloak with great care!"

As Leo was about to rush out of the shop to find something to pawn, he noticed the young girl slam through the door. He stopped and shot her a warm, friendly smile and said,

"Hello there, young miss. How do your fair this fine day?"

His greeting sounded a little more professional as if Leo was thinking of trying to convince this young girl into buying from his new friend's shop.

The girl looked up at him, and saw his friendly gesture. She rose to a standing position. "A-Alright... I guess..." She looked over at the ceramic pots near where the door slammed, and noticed that, had they been perhaps an inch or two closer to the door, they'd have been broken. "Ah, I'm sorry! I'm a bit of a klutz sometimes... Is this your shop? I'm terribly sorry for barging in like that..."

"Welcome to Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe! We also do gem encrusting, sharpening, and custom orders!"
Reno's trademark smile returned, brighter than ever.
"Oh what a charming young miss! Have you come for a bit of jewelry? Maybe a new dress for a date with that special someone? Ha ha ha!"
Reno stepped from behind the counter, filing the paperwork underneath it.
"Feel free to look around, or have a chat. But I must remind you that the shop is closing early tonight so I can go to the carnival! I have a hankering for lizard on a stick! Ha ha ha!"
He wondered if the wrestlers would be there in the back of his mind.
It'd been a while since he'd stopped by.

She looked at the owner, a bit of a daze still in her eyes. "Huh, festival?" There was no doubt by her tone of voice she had not heard of this 'festival' that the owner spoke of. "What kind? What's it for?" Was she truly curious, or just pulling him along, it was hard to tell. Regardless, her questions still persisted in showing some kind of interest.

"Carnival? Mind if I tag along, Bishop? It's been awhile since I've enjoyed a some festivities with company"

Leo wanted to find some way to repay Bishop for his kindness and he thought that maybe he'd find something of use at the carnival. He could enjoy a good time with good company. Leo then looked towards the young girl and began thinking that "the more the merrier" would apply here and decided to ask her to come along as well.

"Hey, miss. Why don't you join us. The more the merrier, right?"

Leo grinned his friendly grin and awaited an answer. His face seem like he was happy just to receive an answer, but there was a small glimmer in his eyes hoping that the three of them would go in a group.

Re: Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe
Is that Leo fellow a bit... special?
He seems so cheerful and simple.
There's something blissful about it; the way he acts.
The woman was probably on drugs, though. Maybe she had been hitting the pipeweed too hard.
And he could have sworn he had said carnival...
"Oh an escort to the carnival! Ha ha ha! In case any of my rivals in the pawn business attack me. Or maybe an angry loanshark. I kid, I kid!"
Maybe a brisk walk would wake up the girl. She seemed like she was still asleep.
And Leo would be a good ally to have, if he was good in a fight. Some muscle was always a plus in this city.
And if he died?
That shovel would fetch a nice profit!
"Come, come! Lizard on a stick for all!"
Reno began locking the display cases, wiping down the counters again.
"Oh forgive me, ma'am! I'm Renorlem Ishmael Bishop, proprietor of Bishop's Mystical Gem and Pawn Shoppe! And this here is Leo. We've known each other for about 15 minutes. But life's too short to worry about things like that. As long as you promise not to shovel me in the back, we should be fine!"
Time for a patented Bishop brand joke.
"Unless you're an assassin, hm? Maybe both of you sent to kill me and saw my head off? Who did I piss off this time? Ha ha ha!
And above all, the smile stayed wide.

"But wait... I still don't understand what the festival is for... I'm not from around here... sorry..." The girl looked very confused. Finally, she sighed, "Alright, I suppose I'll join you." She knew it was a battle she would not win. "My name is Natalie, a pleasure to meet you Mr. Bishop. And what is your name?" She spoke to the kinder man who first invited her to the carnival.

Leo chuckled at Bishop's joke about assassin.

"Nah," Leo began, "if I was an assassin, I'd miss out on this cool cloak you gave me."

He then turned to the young girl and nodded. He felt a nostalgic feeling be with these two. Though it is unclear in his mind, he knows that he had traveled with companions before. So even this little friendly outing was enough to make him feel closer to his old self.

"Hello Natalie, as Bishop stated earlier, my name is Leo. If you feel unsafe, I'll protect you. I may not look it, but I'm a pretty good fighter. I'll make sure nothing happens to you or Bishop!"

His words, though humble, were filled with reassurance. Leo was willing to do all he can to keep his new friends, if needed be that is.

Why did he feel so compelled to travel with these two?
Best not to question it.
"Come now, the shop's closed up. Let's head out before the lizard stands close up, hm?"
Reno leaped over the counter gracefully, landing on both feet without so much as a stumble.
"So, Miss... Uh... Natalie was it? You said you're not from around here? Where would you be around from, then?
Perhaps another target nobody would miss?
Unless she was a princess running away from her kingdom. So cliche...
And what was that Leo fellow's deal?
So many new faces running into town these days.
So many new people dirtying up the city even more so.
So much stupidity and corruption!
Someone needed to stop it.
Someone needed to make an example of all the degenerates and fools.

A pawn broker, a fisherman, and beast-woman. It seemed these three strangers had formed a trio of sorts, at least for a time. Each seemed to have their own goals and ideals, but it looked as though they could get along for a while. Who knows what fate could have in store for them

"Huh?" Natalie was caught off guard by Bishop's question, but nevertheless every question deserves an answer. "Oh, umm, I'm from a village in an area known as The Border. Have you heard of it by chance?" Her question was a simple one if not obvious. Who hadn't heard of The Border in a time like this? But Natalie wasn't aware of what a big deal it really was, much like anyone thinks of their 'hometown'.

Leo, grabbing Natalie's hand, followed right behind Bishop.

"To the carnival we ride!" he said enthusiastically.

Leo did not know exactly what would happen while they were out. A chance at a some runes, maybe a new friend perhaps. Leo was anxious to experience the festivities with them, and maybe get a fight in or two to keep in shape. As they watched Bishop lock up his shop, he noticed the 5 gold coins in one of his pockets and quickly handed it Bishop.

"What luck, friend. The cloak seems to have kept 5 gold pieces from it's previous owner. For you my friend, to pay off the last bit of my cloak. No worries, though. I'll find some nice merch for you to repay your kindness from earlier!"

With a sigh and a yawn, Reno slowly woke up from the cot in his backroom. Luckily, the store had an upstairs for his companions, though it was rather cramped with backstock and paperwork.
Oh how he hated the paperwork...
The whole system was corrupt, but god forbid he forget to have a bill of sale...
What had even happened last night? Why was his body bruised? Why was there a minotaur upstairs?
It was like the Academy all over again...

Natalie:
[Time Passed...]

Natalie wakes up, the others still asleep. She always was an early riser. Then gain, that was all there was for her, for if she didn't wake early, she would most likely have been found as a child, lurking where she was not wanted.

Natalie looked around, as all was quiet. She waited for her companions to eventually wake up.
