Re: Discussion Area

Yes, you'll only get the +1 Skill Point or +1 Hit Point for one class when you progress a level (but I'll keep this in mind and see how the game goes).

You get all the Class Skills of both clases, but only the skill points from whichever class gives you the most.

Hi. It is nice to meet you all.

I will be playing an elven swordsman/sorcerer.

So far, it seems like we have a good mix of character classes which should make things interesting. :)

quote:
The Chronicles of Radagast the Brown
Based on ideas from fellow RPoL gamer Balthazar

The Year is 2936 during the Third Age of the Sun. You are an elite group that has gathered in The Red Leaf Inn to join Radagast in his duty to protect the flora and fauna of Middle Earth from the ravages of evil. You will mostly likely risk life, limb, and love to hold back the tide of evil--an evil that most in Middle Earth believe is gone or forgotten, but the Keepers know better and remain ever vigilant against the threat.

You are the Keepers of Kelvar and Olvar--an elite group dedicated to protecting and restoring nature wherever it is threatened. Keepers come from all races and all walks of life. Some feel the calling to protect their homelands. Others feel a stronger pull, which brings them to the attention of Radagast the Brown. You are such individuals. Radagast has issued an invite to each of you to join him at The Red Leaf Inn, his latest base of operations. You hhave made the journey and are settling in.

Re: Discussion Area

Azurak the Blue are we allowed to alter the Character sheets some, it doesn't give a space for Race bonus Stats and Level Stats.  Unless you just want us to add them into the Primary Stat list.

Re: Discussion Area

Hello everyone, glad to see the roster all filled up.

I must say as an after thought if I were to go back in time and re-request this game again I would have requested that it be a low magic game as is the world of Middle Earth.

I am not asking anyone to change their character concept in any way, as it is too late for that, I would however ask that if you are so inclined to look at your character and possibly find creative ways to lessen the dramatic use of magic. (This is not even touching on the notion of Dwarven spell-casters).  With the amount of magic in this game one might not be able to tell that we are in middle earth and not Abeir-Toril (the world the Forgotten Realms takes place).  And our spell casters will outshine Gandalf's magical displays shown in The Hobbit and the entire Trilogy of The Lord of The Rings, any magical feats from The Silmarillion, the 12 or so Histories Books, the lost Tales, etc in one, very short no doubt, "combat" scenario.

For Example, I chose for Elured to be a Ranger/Magus.  Originally I felt two spell casting classes was to much to believe, so went with a Spell-less Ranger class.  Then when I got to the spell selection portion of my Magus side could not believe the acts my character would be able to preform.  My small spell list looked like this:

0 - Ghost Sound
0 - Light
0 - Mage Hand
0 - Open/Close
0 - read Magic
0 - Spark

1 - Enlarge Person
1 - Expeditious Retreat
1 - Keep Watch
1 - Obscuring Mist
1 - True Strike

2 - Alter Self
2 - Fog Cloud
2 - Invisibility
2 - Levitate
2 - Spider Climb

3 - Burst of Speed
3 - Fly
3 - Haste
3 - Wind Wall

4 - Dimension Door
4 - Paragon Surge

Some of them like Expeditious retreat, True Strike, Burst of Speed, Haste, and Paragon Purge could have easily been played (in my view) without suspending believitability in the setting.  But spells like Fly, Levitate, Dimension Door, etc... well, I couldn't see it in Middle Earth.

I opted to create an archetype based on the Arcana Lord's ability to syphon spells and turn them into Arcana Points.  He could choose which he would do, cast a spell or convert it into points to run his Magus Arcana's.  What I altered was that he lost the ability to cast the spells in exchange for a larger Arcana Pool and more Magus Arcana's.

These are the Magus Arcana he has:

At 3rd level:

- Athame Knowledge (temporarily gain a feat which improves your weapon)
- Eldritch Athame  (change weapon into another weapon)
- Warding          (grant enhancement bonuses to armor)

At 6th level:

- Enduring Arcana  (increase duration of weapon enhancements)
- Enduring Warding (increase duration of armor enhancements
- Prescient Attack (deny enemy their dexterity bonus)

At 9th level:

- Black Blade Riposte (if successfully attacked when he triggers an AoO, he gains an
AoO against the one who attacked him.)
- Hasted Assault      (enact a Haste effect)
- Versatile Combatant (temporarily gain a feat that improves his combat ability)

With an Arcana Pool of 30 points.

His "Magic" is very potent but yet seemless and undetectable (except perhaps changing his sword into a bow).

Again, I am not saying I want anyone to do anything but create the character they wish to play, I am only asking that you keep the setting in mind and if you feel like it, try and work within that setting.  What's most important is that we have fun, and if everyone chooses to be an Elminster then I will adapt my vision of Middle Earth.

Re: Discussion Area

Kind of something someone should have said earlier ^^;

That said, I'm a Monk/Rogue, so I don't have a ton of magic moves, except in the form of some items/ rogue talents/ninja skills I could take, and I've been pondering through those. I plan to model the monk-y skills and Ki powers (which are relatively subtle for the most part, as vaguely elf awesomeness :3

I'm pretty sure I'm not the biggest offender :P

Re: Discussion Area

Well, keep in mind that Gandalf was a conservative wizard in his old age. He was more apt to keep most of his magic in reserve. Young guns, not so much.

I can tone it all down a bit by putting a few consequences on the use of magic... nothing major, but something to make characters think twice before letting off spells maybe. For instance, using magic might attract the attention of Sauron...

We'll just have to see how it plays out.

Interesting...

quote:
Sets a new plan into motion: Wait until we reach level 20 and start casting 5 implosions a day to lure Sauron's forces into a trap.

To be honest, I haven't even started looking at spells yet but I will do my best to keep the setting in mind. Less visible spells suit the character concept better anyway.

On that note, I am still in the process of working on certain aspects of my character's personality. So while we are speaking about character creation, would it help the group more if I focused on social skills or knowledges? Has anyone specialised in either field already?

Re: Discussion Area

Small magic is fine, as it is usually subtle and not always apparent.

Big magic could cause problems.

Don't think of it as a 'big killer'; think of it as a role-playing opportunity... cast Lightning Bolt and then go run and hide before Sauron finds you!
