In reply to Wren (msg # 142):

Interesting build, I think it is fine, can tell what I will use (part of it at least) but not sure if you want this combo.

Skill focus intimidate
Enforcer or Power attack + Cornugon Smash
Dazzling Display
Shatter Defenses

As monk you can hit with bludgeoning non lethal very easily, so Enforcer for unlimited debuff after the first hit. Shatter defenses for unlimited flat footed and sneak attack.

Re: Discussion Area

As far as genealogy goes, Arad's mother is related to king Theoden. Think something like second cousin.

What rules are we using for animal companions and the such by the way? Earlier on I read about a celestial dire lion companion but in PF rules that's impossible. Not so much the Celestial, as Arcane Heirophant and Improved Familiar would take care of that, but the Dire Lion part. It would simply be a Big Cat companion fluffed as a lion.

In reply to Anna the Red (msg # 156):

Sounds awesome :D I'm not a strength/charisma rogue, though, so I won't be using those.

On the upside, a lot of my powers can help the rest of the party unload more hits/hit better.

Crushing Blow can let me drop AC on an enemy by 6, (and I can bypass armor  to deliver it with Dim Mak), plus I can Trip people - and whenI do, allies who threaten the victim get an AoO on them - and I get TWO on them :D hehe

Too all the Ranger's out there: What are your Favored Enemies?

My character has the Dual-Style Ranger Archetype of the Spell-less Ranger which limits Elured to 1 Favored Enemy.  He chose Orcs.

Just wondering what diversity we have for tracking and taking down different evil creatures of Middle Earth.

Re: Discussion Area

Uruk-Hai are Orcs so I'd say yes. Just like picking Dragon would give all the types of dragon.

Favored Enemy is a mechanics thing. You can dress it however you like but it's still a mechanic.

Re: Discussion Area

Ooo! Nice list of monsters! Didn't remember all of those!

As for Dark Elf, as someone said, it's a mechanics thing. So Moriquendi, Dark Elf, Night Elf, Drow... these are just different names for the same thing. How you define it might only affect archetypes.

Orcs are goblinoids, as goblins (and be extension hobgoblins) are a sort of aberrant (or degenerate), or lesser, orc. Just as the uruk-hai are 'greater' orcs.

Per lotr.wikia, the creatures fought in Moria were goblins (i.e. in Balin's tomb and before the bridge of Khazad-dum).

Re: Discussion Area

Wargs would actually likely fall under animal for type. The closest parallel in pathfinder is the dire wolf. The worgs in pathfinder (which is a magical beast) is much smaller than LOTR wargs, not to mention them being sentient speaking creatures (which wargs definitely are not). Oliphaunt would be an animal as well, probably using the stats for mammoth minus anything specific to their fur or cold climate adaptation. Vampires along with barrow wights would fall under undead. Not sure where ring wraiths fall but death knight is probably the closest parallel there, which would make them undead as well.

My favored enemy choices are humanoid (orc), animal, humanoid (goblinoid). If goblinoids and orcs are being grouped together here I guess I would drop the odd one and pick up vermin.

Elured: Where did you find the spell-less ranger? I also chose to go spell-less  for thematic reasons but the skirmisher archetype leaves much to be desired for everything you give up with even the ranger's limited spellcasting. If there's a third option (trapper ranger being the second) I'd love to see it.

Re: Discussion Area

Well, the idea is that Wargs, while not being able to talk, are in fact intelligent and do communicate with one another in their own language. As such they'd be Dire Wolves with an upped Int and as soon as an animal's Int goes above 2 it becomes a magical beast.

EDIT: Unless it's an animal companion, but that's another can of worms.but that a weird loopy thing.

Nevermind Elured, I found it.

So, is the spell-less ranger approved then GM? Since it's not an official Paizo published class/archetype? If so, can I change my sheet accordingly to take it?

If anyone has a spare feat slot and plans to set up flanking I would recommend taking the Teamwork Feat: Outflank.  Elured has it and is also a Crit finder so that both parts of the feat are of use.

Re: Discussion Area

dunno if I can squeeze it in, but if I can, mebbe :3

Either way, I have synergy with an ally  and you using that, since I have Gang Up, which lets me get flanking as long as two allies are in some way adjacent to the target.
