The Red Leaf Inn

Tucked in under the trees along the Old Forest Road, just inside the western edge of the Mirkwood Forest, this quaint old inn is a welcome respite for weary travelers. However, its unique architecture of branches for beams and leaves for the thatched roof make it easy to miss.

Of course, there are those that claim it moves from place to place, but that's an old wives' tale told by those who couldn't find it. As if that makes them seem less stupid.

Radagast sat at a table by the side window. He was actually hard to spot, looking like a part of the architecture. Twigs and leaves poked out from his hat (or was that just his tangled hair?) and clothes, and an occasional small furry creature peeked out from a pocket.

As he smoked his pipe, he stared out the window... or was he staring at something far more distant?

A chipmunk suddenly ran down his arm onto the table, looked around curiously, then sat up and chided Radagast. It took almost a minute of this to get the wizard's attention.

"I feel the same, Pico," he replied to the chipmunk, even as he reached into a pocket and fished out some nuts.

"The land... the land is wounded... bleeding... we have to stop it! And so we shall." He cocked his head to the side as if listening.

"They come. I knew they would. It is their land, too. We will not abide a dark and twisted wood where only foul things live!"

"The Greenwood must be returned."

Not for the first time did he wonder why the folk had stopped calling it that. Had it been dark for that long? A shadow here, a darkness there... dusk falling and then never quite going away. It had been gradual, ever so gradual, slowly, creepingly slowly... creating a toehold for the Necromancer. He was gone now, driven off by Gandalf, but his dark influence continued to linger and grow...

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Lady Isilë was outside of the inn looking at it with a strange expression upon her face, as if she seen it move or come alive in certain spots.  Shaking her head she then continued onward into the inn after placing her mare in the small stables to the far side.  She didn't want anything to happen to her faithful mare, one that she would never be able to replace.  ONE that was part of the mystical world that she belonged to.

Waling inside the young looking female elf allowed her eyes to look around the room spotting almost everyone in there and smiled when she was able to spot her host. He was as ever calm looking and dressed like he has for years.  It is a wonder if he has ever changed the clothing upon his flesh.  Only allowing it to be washed by the rain drops that fell upon him.

Pulling the cape off her shoulders and gracefully swinging it over her arm she walked toward Radagast.  "Greeting old friend.  It has been far too long since I seen your smiling face or heard any good tales of your journeys. she paused and looked down at the chipmunk and she bowed her head to him "And to you as well. there was one thing about those that was arcane in nature. They loved to travel with their familiars.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Sky Sheer'een had been living in the wilds for years. It was the place she was most at peace. Now though that the land was being ruined by some evil force, Sky had to act. Wearing a black cloak, with Rhino Hide armor underneath, she carried a beautiful carved bow and a thin blade at her waist. Sky's long black hair waved in the breeze as she approached the town.

She figured the only way to help the lands is to gather some information and find others willing to help fight whatever was cursing the earth. Sky found the inn and went inside. She noticed another female and a scragally looking man talking.

Sky sat at the bar and waited to be asked if she was going to order anything. If anyone looked closely, they would notice Sky's black gloves, and black bracers on her forearms. She also had a well crafted quiver full of arrows that seemed much better made than any normal ones.

Sky just sat and waited trying to listen to any conversations going on around her.

18:54, Today: Sky Sheer'enn rolled 32 using 1d20+18. perceprtion.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

As Gwyn approached the inn and its famous red lantern hanging at the doorway, she reached down to touch her mount's broadback and murmur a word that resembled a soft growl as much as anything in the Dalish tongue.  The great cat, larger than largest of warhorses responded by halting patiently and crouching down on the ground to allow Gwyn to gracefully slip from its broad, bone-spiked back.

"Find a deer or a boar if you like - but no sheep, horses or cattle," she admonished sternly fixing the cat with a momentary stare of instruction before seizing her staff from the saddle and making for the door.

Entering with the skirts of her deep mulberry coloured kirtle swishing about her legs, she smiled to any that looked and offered a greeting to them and the innkeeper before looking for her appointment.  There was no mistaking anyone else for Radagast.  Approaching him, she greeted him and his company, introducing herself should the absentminded fellow have lost track of his guest list...

Aerethion answered the summons.  If the old wizard believe trouble was about, then Aerethion would gladly proffer his assistance.  Upon his approach, he noted that others were entering before him, and he had the feeling that something of import was about to begin.

Once inside, Aerethian spotted the old wizard surrounded by three ladies.  Smiling, he approached the assembled adventurers (for with their armor and weapons, what else could they be).  Still standing, "Greetings, Radagast."  To the ladies, he offered, "I am known as Pathfinder."  He gave his nomme de guerre, which he used while on adventures, as he thought it improper to be so straightforward with strangers.

Cora giggles as she pulls her elven thin blade out then takes her bow from her shoulder. The bow was made of white wood with a panter's head carved in the top and an eagles on the bottom shaft. The string was black as night and Sky found it high in a mountain cave. She wasn't quite sure what or where it came from, but it was tight and if she fingered it the string almost sounded like an instrument.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

This all felt a little too suspicious, but the ways of wizards were rarely very direct. As the maiden clad in elfin garb ventured alone through the darkened wood, she recounted the events that had led her here in her mind. And in her hands, she folded over again the parchment that held a messily-scrawled invitation here, of all places.  It had somehow ended up inside a purse she'd cut... certainly a veiled threat to her, who'd had more than one run-in with legal authorities in the past, but something was different about it - and this forest...

She had come upon the place before really noticing. Wren was distracted by the faint sense of magic in the forests, the looming, crawling shadows and the rustling leaves. Her elf-blood made her sensitive to such things, or so she believed... The old elven ruins she had discovered had similar feels about them, but also arcane traps that had taken her close to a week to solve in one particular case.

Even the short trip into Murkwood had left the keenly sensitive girl on edge, but the sight of the quaint inn, and its rather camouflaged structure brought a relieved smile to her pleasant features. She approached the place quietly, pausing to stop into the stables with a curious glance to count horses and see if she could discern anything suspicious. To her eye, however, it was but an ordinary inn, save for the number of rather fine mounts collecting in the small stable.

This was the proper time, and the proper place, according to the message. She re-read it as she stood outside the stables, nipping her lower lip with her teeth. A summons by someone named Radagast the Brown - a wizard, he claimed, and with the promise of worthy work for her prodigious talent. She had to admit the words were intriguing. Her skills had earned her some of Gondor's darkest ire, and ever since she'd been on the road. Somehow, this man both knew of her time in the White City and was able to locate her with his message...

Surely, he had means, if not magic. She had considered the possibility that this was some lure to try and capture her, but found it unlikely that Gondorian bounty hunters would seek her so far from the White City.

She remained outside the stables, a seemingly-human beauty in fine elven garb, deeply engrossed in a little slip of parchment.

Borun Redbeard approached the Red Leaf Inn cautiously. It was rarely prudent to rush. He edged in a circuit around the inn, watching for anything amiss. An elf in hunting gear strode into inn - a good sign, perhaps.

With no obvious threats, Borun crept up to one of the windows and peered in. Seeing Master Radagast sitting in a corner nonchalantly chatting to a couple of elves, Borun decided that there was no trap.

Before entering, Borun cast Prestidigitation, removing the loose dirt from his travelling outfit. He must look presentable in front of such an important personage.

Borun walked in and stood at the Istari's table. [Common]"Good evening, sir. You are Master Radagast I presume?" Borun waited for a response, then continued. "I am Borun Redbeard. Master Thordin of the Diamond Heart Academy has sent me. I am at your disposal."

"I see that most of us are of elven blood. I'm sure that will reduce on a lot of arguments if we end up traveling a long distance together?" Just as Sky said that, she noticed a stocky dwarf walking tword thier table. "Hmmm. Maybe I spoke too soon. Not that I don't get along with all races, but some can be a bit grumpy at times." ,she whispered.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Wren hadn't been trying to hide so much as perhaps the dwarf had been more concerned with meeting his companion than looking her way. As the stout mystic approached and conjured simple magics, she focused her gaze on him, watching as he cleansed out his beard and dusted the trail from his robes...

It raised the legitimacy of the venture in her eyes, a bit, seeing that. Taking a deep breath, the blonde strode around from the stables to the inn proper, pausing to peer inside a the collection of mostly elves- and the dwarf. That there were so many elves here gave her both a moment of pause and a sense of excitement. She'd always wanted to meet elves, but the few she'd had the chance to meet directly hadn't been very welcoming of her mixed-blood.

She smoothed a bit of her hair over her faintly-pointed ear-tips, but it's lustrous blonde - and her elven attire - still strongly implied elven heritage, though she was perhaps far too short to be an elf maiden.

The quaint little crowded room took all her attention as she entered, her guard still imperceptibly up at first as she avoided approaching anyone in particular, and instead circled about to the bar, ordering up a drink and then moving aside, leaning against one wall so she could keep the entire room in front of her - having her back turned to anyone here made her a little nervous.

Sky noticed the dwarf first then the young looking elf or half-elf eneter. The girl looked a bit shy? Sky kept her eyes on her until the two women's eyes locked for a moment. At that time Sky smiled and winked at her. Hoping to break the ice a bit? The girl did look like an important person from somewhere?

"Anyways did anyone want to join me for a bite of food or drink? I wonder how the owner would feel if I tried to bring my friend and companion inside? Maybe I'll ask him?"

Sky turned to the bar and purposely made a bee-line tword the girl. Leaning up against the bar next to the blonde girl she waited for the barkeep. Without turning her head Sky said. "Hello young lady. Your hair is most luxcerious and well kept. I ammend you on that. I wish my hair would stay in one place. I don't remember a day when it laid the way I wanted it too? Finally I just gave up. I suppose if others don't like me for me then forget em aye? Would you like something to drink?" ,Sky asked.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

The elf who approached her struck her as intensely strange for all she knew about elfkind. Sure, the woman was clearly an archer, given her fine bow, but her expression and demeanor felt completely wrong. Almost human, in fact. It left her as unsettled as her first meeting with an elf had - but for entirely different reasons.

The lack of the typical sense of judgement she felt from elven eyes wasn't there, and it set her on edge as much as the sense actually being there would have.

"... I've a name, you know. It's Wren." She answered the overtly amicable elf. She punctuated her words with a drink, and shook her head. "I just pin it out of the way." She indicated the ornate, elf-crafted butterfly clip binding her topknot with a finger, the shrugged her shoulders lightly. "And I've already got my drink, thank you." She raised her mug gently at that, a bit taken a back that the elf had even missed that detail. It was then that she imagined a thought - was it a human who was trying to disguise herself? Her skin did look a touch darker than the fair elves - even Wren herself was more fair.

She paused for a long minute, her eyes flitting over the other womans' features, before she spoke. "... Did you need something with me?"

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Ro'kath eyed the Inn warily deep through the woods. He was long since wont to avoid such places. It was more than scarce that he found welcome in any place where people of any race gathered, even in passing. Ro'kath knew they were safer staying as far afield from such places as could be managed, save the rare occasion when he had need to resupply his arrows or mend his gear. Still, it was hard to resist the curious draw of this particular meeting. It was no simple feat to find him in the wilds, let alone in advance far enough to direct a sparrowhawk clutching a missive in it's tiny talons. For that missive to be a summons by one of the Istari only drove on further intrigue. He couldn't resist his curiosity, yet he still felt far from settled.

Sensing his ill ease Ro'kath's faithful companion nuzzled their head warmly into his chest. He couldn't help but loose a silent chuckle at the great beast's effort to comfort and reassure him. He nestled his fingers deeply into the matted fur atop the warg's head and gave a good vigorous scratch up the slope of it's crown and down the back behind the left ear, eliciting a husky contented sigh from the beast.

"Rest easy Reuben. I won't be long," Ro'kath whispered lovingly into his companions ear as he untangled his hand and gently patted the beast's flank.

He gave the short broken clicks of signal that would send his warg slinking into the shadows nearby. He was worried of being tolerated himself. He was terrified how any at the Inn might react to the presence of a warg. Far better Reuben stay nearby in the woods, well out of sight. Once he lost the great beast from his periphery he took a deep breath and started walking. It took only a minute or two to reach the woods' edge and less than that the door of the Inn. Another deep breath and he entered.

Ro'kath stood a mountain of a man, towering over those present at 6'8". Unlike most taller folk, though, his form was neither bloated nor bulky. He was definitely not lean as an elf might be but there was a subtle slenderness to him covered in slim tightly corded muscle. His stature and build certainly seemed a collection of oddity to the average traveler.

His entire person was shrouded in a clearly Elven cloak, a faded dark forest green hue broken by the occasional slate specs of polished stone with the shadow of a wolf embroidered in black in the center on the back. The hood was drawn up high to conceal his features and the cloak's length barely passed his knees for his advanced height. Through the cloak the bulge of a broad quiver traced itself into the cloak's folds. What was visible in front beneath the cloak was a set of well worn black leathers, faded from excessive wear. His boots bore a vague familiarity to Elven style but were somewhat more clunky for his full sized feet and also showed signs of being well traveled. Sheathed from either hip was a pair of wicked looking swords. Both resting in simple black sheaths. The left had a guard like a black cross, a red and black corded grip ending in a warg's head pommel. The right had a silver web-shaped guard, the grip black with a green web pattern traced through it ending in a silver fang pommel.

As he entered his eyes did a swift scan of the Inn. Instantly he picked out the one who must be the wizard. They were surrounded by far too many people for Ro'kath to feel welcome, though. Whatever business they had with the man he didn't think fondly on the chaos that would ensue if he inserted himself in it to attend his own business with Radagast. Instead, having paused not half a second at the door he stepped in while drawing his hood even more tightly about his faced to keep it shrouded in shadow. To the casual observer it would appear he hadn't paused at all as he strode straight for the most isolated table in the Inn. Quietly he took a seat with the widest view of the Inn and there he waited. Firstly he'd wait till a barmaid or innkeep came to offer service. Longer he'd wait till he could find a private word with the wizard. He didn't favor the odds that anything else could lead to anything but his swift retreat from the place for fear of violent misunderstanding.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

The dark elf's counterpoint glance, plain down the half-blood's frame, brought a slightly awkward expression onto Wren's face. Her comment brought a hint of rose into her fair cheeks as she was so plainly examined, but her jaw set firmly as the night elf dismissed her to be as haughty and flippant as other elves. It was strange to hear such words from an elf, but it seemed there was more to Elfkind than she'd known.

Despite the Elf's gross errors, Wren didn't correct her, and let her walk away with but a soft sigh - though she did spare a glance to follow the dusk-skinned elf as she moved away. It had hardly felt like talking to an elf, being so openly studied. Apparently, her curt, suspicious replies had offended her, though.

Maybe she was making a poor impression.

Deciding to rectify that, she started forward off the wall, though, Ro'kath had chosen this moment to loom into the inn in all his imposing bulk. She watched him move, the comparatively tiny half-blood like a mere hobbit by comparison as he took a fortunately-sturdy chair for himself. He seemed about as comfortable with the largely-elf crowd as she was, and so she approached his table, resting her hands on the back of the chair one quarter way round the table, to his left. "... Here to see the Istari, too?" she asked, her voice taking on a bit more perk than she'd used with the Oddly Amicable Elf. At least they both felt a bit on the outside of this group. That was a start.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Being approached so openly and without malice was unsettling to Ro'kath, but not in any way he was accustomed. The sense came from it being a wholly alien experience to him. He was never greeted warmly less he was expected and well acquainted with the person to boot. As the sly, pretty little half-elf took a seat at his table he couldn't help the reflex to crane his head slightly away, further obscuring his face in the shadow of his hood if it were possible. After a moment of silence as he adjusted to this new experience he nervously cleared his throat.

"Have they all come to seek counsel with the wizard?" he asked quietly of the fair haired Wren.

Though clearly impossible given his stature, he was trying to go as unnoticed as he could manage. Ro'kath was eager to avoid drawing attention. A feat that seemed to fail ever more progressively as one of the elves made their way to his table after a brief stop at the bar. Today seemed the day for oddities of experience for Ro'kath.

[Elvish]"Appreciated...... but I drink of sterner stuff when I seek more than water to quench thirst,"[/Elvish] he answered the raven haired elf.

"Wren would you care to partake in some elvish spirits? Its a large bottle for little old me. Also please forgive me from earlier. I've been traveling long and hard. I'm a bit grumpy.

Sky slipped three clean glasses, heading for another patron's table, off the barmaid's tray as she walked past. She set them out on the wobbly table and poured two glasses almost full and gave the tall man just a taste. <red>"You know my mother, rest her soul, used to always say, if you never try someting you will never know if you like it."
,she said as she pused the glass in front of the warrior.

Finally taking a seat, Pathfinder ordered a glass of wine as well.  "Would anyone else like anything?"

"It seems so..." Wren hadn't taken as seat, but she leaned onto the back of one, under the table. As the odd elf approached her and the massive man seated at the table to offer them elven wine. She made a little gesture with her mug. "Think nothing of it. I'm not used to an elf being that friendly. I suspected you were up to something." she confessed, before shaking her head. "But I've already got my own drink, as I said."

She looked from the table across the room to the others, gathered and milling about. "Quite a crowd, though. What could trouble him to call this many together, I wonder...?"

There was a lot of talking going around the room and Lady Isilë didn't want to be rude to her host so she was wise to take a seat at his table and wait for him to speak to the gathering party.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Those Radagast had called... not summoned;; that smacked of an imperative, and it wasn't his nature to inflict his choices on others... began filtering into the inn. The first to arrive was an old friend... Lady Isile.

She sat at the table with grace, and her words touched him like a waterfall.

quote:
"Greeting old friend. It has been far too long since I seen your smiling face or heard any good tales of your journeys. And to you as well.

She directed the latter to Pico, the chipmunk sitting in the center of the table. Pico chattered right back at her as if he understood everyone word she said. Who knew... maybe he did at that.

"Some days too long, and others not long enough," Radagast replied to her, "depending on the reasons. I fear this is one of them."

"I would have readily foregone the pleasure of your company if the need was not dire. We shall wait until the others have arrived."

An Elf entered the inn and went to the bar, and Radagast knew her name. It was Sky. Come along way she had, but the darkness reached as far as her home.

The next to arrive was Gwynhwyfar the Fair. Radagast wondered if that was an appellation that she used herself, or one given by others. It was amusingly appropriate in the latter case, for he doubted anyone would have dubbed themselves So-and-so the Ugly.

She came over to his table and introduced herself, but of course he knew who she was. A little bird told him.

"I am glad you could come, M'Lady. I, of course, am Radagast the Brown," he replied with a twinkle in his eye as he used the appellation that others had given him.

"The others will be here shortly. This problem will need us all."

Apparently after getting the lay of the land, Sky then walked to the table.

quote:
"Hello, I am Sky Sheer'een of the woodland elves. For some reason I seem to be drawn to you sir. I have ventured out of the woods to find others who are willing to fight for the land before it becomes a wasteland and dies. Have I made a mistake or am I in the right place?"

"Indeed you are!" Radagast replied to her. "All Elves are of the woodlands, though some less than others. Nature has sent you here to me, for we are of a like mind. Something foul and dark creeps ever more deeply into the woods. We certainly must stop it!"

He did not tell her to wait for the others, for, reserved as she was, he also sensed she was quite gregarious. Indeed, once she established that she was in the right place, she set about making new friends.

Aerethion was the next to arrive, though he introduced himself to the others as Pathfinder. 'The Fair', 'the Brown', and now the Pathfinder. He barely refrained from a brief chuckle.

"Well met again, Pathfinder. Others are coming." More than that was not needed.

The arrival of a Dwarf caught everyone's attention, and Radagast was relieved to see that no one leaped to the thought that Borun might be the threat. Dwarves and Elves did not always get along, even though the cave-dwelling Dwarves were as much a part of nature as the Elves of the woods.

quote:
"Good evening, sir. You are Master Radagast I presume? I am Borun Redbeard. Master Thordin of the Diamond Heart Academy has sent me. I am at your disposal."

"Hail and well met, Borun Redbeard. How is Master Thordin these days? I haven't been up his way since the Battle of Troll Deep. Any more problems with rock trolls?"

One more arrival was Wren. She’d been lurking outside; the chattering of woodland creatures had told him so. No sooner had she entered the inn than Sky had attempted to make friends with her. It did not go well.

If the Dwarf drew attention, then the next arrival took it to a whole new level. Ro’kath was a Half-Orc, but even though he tried to hide it, Radagast didn’t think there was anyone in the inn that couldn’t detect that. His actions gave them all second thoughts, though.

Then, both Wren and Sky approached Ro’kath… attempting to make a new friend.

As she sat there looking at all the travelers that suddenly came entering in the inn.  The thought that Radagast included a few others beside herself to come to his aid.  There was nothing more important to Lady Isilë then her friends and in her lifetime she had the pleasure of meeting a few of those that are considered Wizards.

The Istari: Saruman, Gandalf, The Blue Wizards (Rómestámo · Morinehtar) and sitting here before me Radagast.

There was a lot of hidden secrets of the birth of Lady Isilë, which her mother still keeps a secret to this day.  There is only one other that knows about the birth of this young elf and that is her father.  One she hasn't meet yet, to her understanding.  Or has she already met him without knowing.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Sky just left the glasses there wondering if the tall man would at least try the wine? She took up her cup and sipped at it like a lady. If she wasn't in the company of so many of her distant cousins, Sky would have probably just would have took a swig out of the bottle.

She wondered what her black friend Nightbreeze was up to outside the town's area? Sky realilized that there were at least a couple rangers here and maybe even a druid like herself. She hoped if any companions ran into each other they would be civil even though they were animals. She hadn't felt any worries or aggression, so Sky didn't worry. Night was able to take care of himself and on more than one occasion had saved her life. She hoped all the companions will be able to become friends on whatever this gathering of adventurers would have to do to ressurect the land?

"I believe we are all here to meet the wizard and it looks like quite a few have arrived. Shall we all move over closer to his table so we won't be left out?" ,Sky asked the other two she was sitting with.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Ro'kath stared at the two finger thick glass of elvish wine in front of him through the shadow of his hood. He had the tolerance of his darker kin but rarely the inclination. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy good spirits, although he did appreciate heftier ales as he inplied. Rather it was that he was always extremely hesitant to consume anything that could lead to impairing his senses. It was rare he found himself somewhere he felt safe enough to let loose a little while drink was concerned. A drunk half-orc was far too easy prey for a largely intolerant world.

Still, he didn't wish to be rude. That could draw even more attention to him than simply accepting the token. Finally his gloved hand stretched out to grip the glass, which seemed somehow smaller in his hands than those of the ladies present. He lifted it and tipped it towards the raven haired elf as a sign of gratitude.

"Many thanks," he bowed his head subtly.

Quickly as his head was bowed thus completely obscuring his face under the brim of his hood he brought the glass to his lips. The two fingers of wine disappeared in a single sip. It was a sweet and aromatic brew, as light as he'd expected of cheap elvish wine. Not bad by any measure, though he had been right it wasn't quite his cup of tea.

"I think he's summoned us about the decaying state of the Mirkwood," Ro'kath speculated quietly with the two women. "There's little else I can imagine him seeking my help over lest he's turned a more aggressive eye towards...... Any case, I doubt my moving closer would settle well amidst that company. Most elves and dwarves take issue with mixed company and I wouldn't want to interrupt the proceedings. I'm happy to wait and have my word with the wizard once the man isn't so crowded."

Wren looked between Sky and the Half-Orc. "You two can wait here if you want. I'm going in for a closer look, see what I can hear." She chimed, before leaving the table behind, and approaching the bevy of elves lingering about the wizard as though he had some sort of unnatural elf gravity.

She made an approach toward the wizard, but only to stand closer and lend an ear to his conversations for now, though doing so put her amidst the elves.

Lady Isilë head or body didn't move much but she was well aware of the movement from the table with the three interesting travelers. It was the one that moved graceful toward the table where she and the other Elves were sitting.

Her standing close enough to listen was enough to make one not trust her for trying to eavesdrop on a conversation with her friend Radagast.  But then again the one called Sky was here and then moved off to speak to her and the tall/huge one sitting at that table.  Did they send her over to spy?

Ro'kath offered the raven haired elf an out. Truth be told between her and Wren this was the most amicable company he'd had beyond Reuben in over a year. He actually did appreciate it. He couldn't help the habit of offering a polite exit, though. Long since he'd gotten in the habit of insulating his behavior that way as a measure to avoid ill tidings or unnecessary conflict when someone saw the truth of his darker half etched into his features. He was full of precautions to prevent someone mistaking him for a full orc and drawing blades on him.

Wren noticed one of the elves watching her, quite closely. She was more familiar with this sort of stare. Suspicion, perhaps distrust? It wasn't her head or body that gave her away, but it was the feel of discerning eyes on her. Wren didn't quell under the feeling, but she knew that at least one was watching her as she passed Radagast's table to glance out the inn's window. Earlier, she'd looked in from outside...

Wren glanced to the table, Radagast, and the elf who was watching her. Deciding to close in, she cleared her throat. "Ah... Radagast, correct? I got your message..." she chimed, though her words, once they were out, felt painfully obvious. She was being watched, and that made her a little graceless with her words, not that she was the most eloquent anyway.

"Must I?" Ro'kath replied coyly. "Have you never seen a man of my stature?"

His head cocked curiously to the side. Partly his answer was an evasion but just as much a redirection, or attempt at deception. What he was sat just as sourly with him as it did with nearly everyone else he met. This elf might show indifference to it, feigned or true, but he lacked any hopes that the other elves present might. Experience had taught him bitterly otherwise. That wasn't even considering the dwarf. He had yet to meet a dwarf who hadn't drawn steel the moment they saw his face.

"Surely in all your vast years as an elf you must have seen at least a few of the Edain who matched my height?" he continued. "Apologies but I failed to catch your name. Would it offend to ask it?"

One more woman entered the tavern. She was a small and young one, clearly not strong enough to fight with an orc bare handed, but she had tired but nice face. She was a half-elf, but her human blood was much more dominant based on her short body and not so agile movement.

Her cloths saw better days, she probably bought them in a distant country. On her back she wore a dark grey cloak and a backpack. Her only visible weapon was a black, serious looking hooked club on her belt, a simple but effective weapon.

She greeted everyone with a nod, then she focused on the Wizard. Her smile was bright and warm when she realized how many was there as well to meet with him.
She did not mind to spend some time with warm food and eat until the others will finish their business with Radagast.

She dropped her backpack, sit down, and ordered something to eat.

OOC: She became a Half elf at the end.

Sky looked to Ro'kath and smiled. She felt sorry for the man. He obviously has had trouble in his past for just being half-orc. Sky didn't care, the man was still half-human and wasn't evil as far as she could tell. Sky would befriend a full orc if he or she wasn't evil. "If you don't want to tell me thats fine. I only despise evil and even elves, humans, halflings, gnomes, or dwarfs can be evil." ,explained Sky.

"No this is the first time I have really been on a far journey. Like I said my people were out in a remote place. When I left I resided in the woods close by the mountain and stayed there for a long time. I found it was the place I was most at ease. The animals, trees, and land made me feel at home. I'm I guess not a typical elf. I enjoy meeting new people and making friends. Since I haven't had many opportunities to do so I am going to make the most of this journey. If a person isn't evil and dosn't want to kill me I will try to befriend them. I figure the more friends one has the better. You never know when you might need the help of a friend and visa-versa."

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

He had traveled for many days from the North East where he had lived for near 7,000 years in Thranduil's Court.  It had been a birds song that spoke to him of a need for his aid which brought him through the forest, following that bird, further and further from his home.  He did not heed the birds request lightly for he not only left his home but his wife, Nimrodel and their twins, a boy and a girl, Melethron and Melethril.  But should the birds message and warnings of an approaching darkness that threatened the Mirkwood be at all true, he had to strike out and meet the threat head on before it could harm those whom he loved.

He was now at his destination, for as he approached the Red Leaf Inn, the bird sang one last song then flew up and away.  Before it had left it had told him what he sought was within this building.  He entered the now crowded room but did not make much notice of those about.  He walked in and scanned the room for a quiet place to rest his road weary feet.  His eyes fell upon a familiar figure to which he gave a friendly nod and a respectful [Valarin]Aiwendil[/Valarin] before he took a seat at the wizards table across from him and proceeded to take out a long grey pipe, stuff it with Sweet Galenas, and lit it from the wick of a nearby candle.

Any who take notice of him see a 7ft 2in half-elf clad in shiny Mithril Breastplate armor, a long black Scimitar at his waist on one hip and a quiver of arrows on the other.  A long Grey Elven Cloak hung over his shoulders and down to his feet.  Those who are truely observant will notice that although he carries a quiver he does not carry a bow.

Neither hungry nor thirsty, Elured turned down any offers of food or drink.  He simply puffed away at his pipe as he waited for Radagast to speak and hopefully explain what the sparrow had been talking about for the poor bird had a terrible lisp and was difficult to make out.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Ro'kath listened to the raven haired elf's story. It was a familiar tale. Most of the people he'd been fortunate enough to share more than two sentences with made their home in the wilds, or at the least their living. He himself devoted nearly all his time to them. Civilization wouldn't bare him so he'd accepted the wilds as his home ages ago.

"Aah.. evil can be a subjective thing, though. So many are judged evil for so little. Upsetting the wrong man, venturing through the wrong wood.... simply existing....." he paused, a knowing pain having crept into his words.

The silence hung about him like a weight. Being surrounded by such mixed company brought so many thoughts to the surface he would otherwise suppress. It was an unpleasant feeling, to think so on one's place in the world or lack thereof. Ro'kath gruffly cleared his throat as if to dismiss his thoughts.

"I still haven't caught your name m'Lady. And forgive me that I haven't offered mine. I am Ro'kath," his tone seemed returned to normal, his voice still low and focused for the raven haired elf's ears.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

As others began arriving, Radagast fetched a few more nuts from his pocket and set them on the table for Pico.

Aerethion was the latest.

"Indeed, Aerethion," Radagast replied to the Elf. "Troubling times have often keep friends apart."

It was getting a bit crowded around his table, but the inn had no trouble accommodating everyone.

Wren finally came over.

"Yes, I am Radagast," he replied to her question. The message she referred to had merely been the call of the wild, a whisper on the wind that spoke his name.

"Welcome, Wren. Your company will be most needed in the days ahead."

And then the one he'd really been waiting for arrived.

"Well met, Elured," he responded to the Half-Elf's greeting. "Mordor's shadow is long and dark, growing longer and darker everyday. We must stop it here, and stop it now."

Somehow, there always seemed to be room and another chair for those who chose to sit at his table.

There were others still to come... he hoped, but perhaps it was time to start everyone going in the right direction. He stood up, and then spoke... not loudly but his voice carried to everyone in the room.

"The Keepers of Kelvar need to go north. Something dark is creeping through the woods and you must deal with it."

"The Keepers of Olvar go south. The ents need our help."

"The Keepers of Silence... a darkness lingers still in Dol Guldur. Will you challenge it? Drive it out into the light?"

Each of the Keepers of Kelvar suddenly finds a chipmunk poke its head out of a pocket, while the Keepers of Olvar have a sprig of myrtle in a pocket or lapel or over an ear.

The Keepers of Silence have a feather fall in front of them.

Borun gently poked the chipmunk with a pudgy finger (perhaps it could be an illusion?) and received a bite to disabuse him of the notion. At least I'm resistant to disease he sighed inwardly.

He reached into another pocket and pulled out a lump of cheese. Breaking a chunk off, he held it out for the chipmunk to nibble.

Finding the inn was not nearly as much trouble as his father had led him to believe, of course for a Boulderol his sense of direction was above average. Walking through the doorway Borjnen made for an impressive example of his dwarven clan. Bright red hair was shown from under a spiked helm as well as a red beard set in two long braids that extend down to his belt. Spikes protruded from the breastplate he wore with large axe strapped to his back. Standing at just under four feat tall most impressive though was that for his size and height he appeared more as a small boulder than the traditional dwarf, the overdeveloped muscles of his bare forearms lending to the effect.

[dwarven]"Aye, this must be the place." More to himself than to anyone in particular. There certainly appeared to be more elves than what he had been expecting.

Making his way through the group that was assembled he finally reached what he thought to be his destination, an old hermit of a man who seemed far more at home amongst the wild.

"It would be an honor to receive such assistance Sky. Your kindness is deeply appreciated," Ro'kath answered.

As a couple more entered Ro'kath watched the crowd grow. He still felt ill at ease but the presence of Sky helped to settle it some. Between her and Wren and their host that made for at least three he could trust wouldn't draw steel just for having seen him. Two at least, now, who might offer words of defense against any who would. It was a strange feeling to have someone on his side. One put to rest when their tokens came and he noted Sky's was different from his own.

"It might help if you were to confide which token belongs to which brand of Keeper, wizard," Ro'kath suddenly spoke up, his voice booming just loud enough to cut above the murmur of the sizable crowd within the Inn. "As to me personally, I have other questions as well. Thranduil's finest scouts couldn't track me on their best day. I should like to know how you found me so unerringly as to contact me via a missive-laden sparrowhawk."

As he spoke up he leaned forward some, resting his arms on the edge of his table. His head leaned down a bit as well to keep concealed his features in the shadow of his hood. Only his sapphire eyes shown clearly through those shadows, an inquisitive glow in them.

[Westron]Well you have called the light to you, for those gathered here today shall be as the sun to the dark of night, we shall remove its grip from this land and send it back to the Land of Shadow whence it came.[Westron] He drew deep on his pipe, the sweet galenas (ooc: pipe-weed) smoke wafted a floral scent about him.

<quote Radagast>"The Keepers of Kelvar need to go north.

As the chipmunk climbed out from a crevasse in his armor, Elured smiled and held his hand out for the chipmunk to perch upon.  He looked casually about the room to see that four others also had small chipmunks with them.  A Red haired human woman, a red haired Dwarven man, an Elf Woman and... What was this...

"Neth'gwedeir!" he exclaimed. [OOC: Neth = Young / Gwedeir = Brother (especially used of those not brothers by blood, but sworn brothers or associates)]

Elured laid his pipe on the table as he stood then strode over to Aerethion and reached out to embrace forarms with him.

Rising from his chair Aerethion smiled broadly.  He had attempted to remain anonymous and utilize his nomme de guerre, but that was beginning to appear futile.  The old wizard went with the ruse, but then called him out by name later, although the ranger was uncertain how many may have heard his name before.

Embracing forearms, "Iaur'gwedier!"  Still smiling, <Elvish/Sindar>"I should have known he would invite you too."</Elvish>  Moving his chair over, <Common>"Please, take this one."</Common>  Grabbing another chair, he placed it next to the first.

Having met some of the others already, he pointed out those with chipmunks.  "This is Borun Redbeard, from the Diamond Heart Academy.  Over there is Sky, an archer by trade."  Nodding in a direction, "And the lady in the dark cloak over there has not introduced herself yet."

To the others present, he introduced, "This is my brother, Elured."

Sky raised her eyebrows in a way to let Ro'kath she really didn't know what tokens he was speaking of? "Tokens? Ro'kath I don't know what you are refering too? I'm sorry. And of course no thanks needed. It would be an honor for me to speak for you. I would have almost anyones back no matter what race he or she is, as long as the person was worthy of my attention. You even having just met you seem like myself in many life aspects. We both love the woods, we feel at home there, I think you love animals as I do, and I despise others who pick on people who just aren't the same as themselves. Our Gods and Goddesses have made us all differant for a reason and I am devout to my Goddess. I am not that person who goes around trying to trecruit others to join me in worshiping my Goddess, but I pray often and uphold the beliefs and the goals my Goddess wants us lesser beings to accomplish in our lifetime." ,Sky explained to her hopefully new friend.

"Ro'kath may I ask if you enjoy the company of animals? If so then I'd like to introduce you to Nightshade. He is outside now, since I wasn't sure if it would be proper to bring him inside?"

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

She listened to what Radagast said about the Keepers.  As she wondered where would he be sending her this time to the North or the South or probably into Dol Guldur.

It wasn't until a fresh sprig of Myrtle appeared in her hair right next to her elongated ear.  Then she heard a loud voice from the table beyond thiers and looking at the tall man.  He now had everyone's attention even if the old wizard didn't direct his question.  But it was interesting question for not even she knew what the chimpmuk popping out of pockets, or those with Myrtle appearing on them and those that had a feather fall before them.

Her hand moved ever so gently over the Myrtle in her hair and then the hair came alive and wrapped itself gently within the myrtle as it was now a part of her attire.  As her hair did move some from underneith near the side of her right shoulder appeared a small black Aves peeking out.  Its head was darting from left to right in a very quick pace.

When the lady was talking to the wizard then suddenly turned her attention to Ro'kath, Sky stood up quickly. "Hello all. I don't think we have been properly introduced. I am Sky Sheer'enn, Night Elf of the hidden mountain clan. And this is my new friend Ro'kath from the woods near where my people reside hidden in the mountain. I met him when I left my clan to try to find my purpose in life. Once I arrived down into the forest, I found that was where I was meant to be. Ro'kath and I met about a year later when he helped save my life by taking out a group of goblins who had myself and my friend Nightshade surrounded. Ever since that day Ro'kath and I have kept in touch, helping each other survive the winters and the evil forces that would enter our beloved forest." ,Sky told whomever was listening.

"Ro'kath isn't much for words, but I will vouch for him as a great being. This man I wouldn't ever trade for another during his or my lifetime. He is honorable, trustworty, strong, and fearless." ,said Sky. She then bowed slightly and sat back down, turning her head away from the wizard's table at Ro'kath and gave him a wink of her eye.

Of course the wizard started to speak in the very same moment when Anna got her long waited warm food and wanted to spend five intimate minutes with it.
The Summoner was a bit tired to realize what was Radagast intention with the small animal, only when the others started to greet each others, and called for her, she forced herself to stop eating, and focus.
She pulled back her robe, put a beautiful smile on her face, grabbed her food, and moved to the table where the others started to form the group.
"Mae govannen, (I am happy to meet you), My name is Anna, I came here to offer my help to  the extremely busy wizard who should find some free minute to talk with me after this party Radagast.
To be honest I did not expected such a nice company here, seems something big will happen soon."

Her voice was warm and friendly, and filled with an almost unnatural charm.

he sprig of myrtle blossoming behind her left ear had taken the thief by surprise, and like the elf who similarly reached for it, she did the same, pausing to note the elf's movement, and then she cleared her throat softly.  That was how he meant to send them of? Odd wizard, being roundabout, but then, straight answers from a wizard were about as hard to get as the coin in their pockets - so she had heard, anyway - not that Radagast seemed the type to keep coin.

She spared a glance around the room. Everyone seemed to have manifested something - surely, cues as to their respective groups. Interesting...

She approached Radagast's table, and glanced to the elf-woman who also had a sprig of myrtle. "This means we're to go together, then?" she ventured, and held her hand out gently

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Although Radagast often looked out the window as the others exchanged words, he was acutely aware of all that went on, within and without.

"Greetings, Borjnen Boulderol, son of Dorden," the wizard of the woods said to the new arrival. "I'm sure he sensed the need; I am glad he sent you."

As the Keepers of Kelvar and Olvar made their selections, Ro'kath was troubled, though he could tell that others were similarly concerned.

"To answer your question, Ro'kath, is simplicity itself: you walk in nature. For one who is as attuned to nature as I am, finding you was child's play. I was not looking for most of you by name for I did not know you before now. I sent out a call, and Nature found those who were... needed."

"The Keepers of Kelvar are those that protect the animals of nature primarily, but all animals in general. If they sent a chipmunk to you, that is because they felt you were most suited to that pursuit."

"The Keepers of Olvar are those that protect the plants of nature. Again, the choice was not mine, but the Keepers, so indicated by the myrtle."

"The Keepers of Silence... that is new to me. These are the ones that can be both as needed, but also delve into things that are neither. The feather is your token."

With Haldir's heart having been filled with trepidation over the shadows
tainted encroachment upon the sacred forest of Mirkwood, he diligently keeps a wary
eye out for any possible taint or threat that he may happenstance upon while
trekking casually down the Old Forest Road towards the Inn.*

Sting, concerned over his friends glumness, attempts to lift his
spirits.  The Pseudodragon leaps off of the Rangers left shoulder, and proceeds
to perform various exciting aerial loops and rolls a short distance ahead of his
master.

Time passes drearily by, and the travelers finally find themselves at
the base of the tree that hosts the renowned Red Leaf Inn.  Out of extreme concern
for the fauna and flora of the forest, Haldir immediately goes to bended knee,
plucks a leaf off a wildflower whose stem juts out wildly from one of the Inns
gnarly roots.  Odd as it may seem to any onlookers, the Ranger examines, sniffs,
tastes, and nonchalantly spits out the leaf without any further ado.  After rising,
his orbs of emerald hue carefully scrutinize his surroundings in an attempt to
appraise the current condition of both the flora and fauna . . .

Out of curiosity, Sting flies overhead in order to investigate the
upper branches of the Inn . . .

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Ro'kath pondered over the wizard's words. If his memory served, Dol Guldur was a long ruined fortress of some sort not far from Lothlorien at the southern edges of the Mirkwood. He'd heard rumor of it not too long past but he couldn't recall precisely what they had been about. He remembered the rumors didn't seem to pertain much of interest for him, though. Perhaps that had changed.

More important to him for the moment was the division of labor. He counted numerous twigs of myrtle and a number of chipmunks. Aside from his own he counted only one feather, however. It seemed to belong to a late arrival, the second dwarf to enter the Inn. Sky seemed to have been tasked elsewhere which meant his moment of amicable company was nearly already expired. It was not a pleasant prospect that he would be accompanied alone by a dwarf. He shuddered to think what their first reaction to Reuben might be.

"I should be delighted to meet this Nightshade, Sky. If we're to heed this Istari it seems that meeting is fated for another time though, if at all. A shame. I should like to have introduced you to my own compatriot. I dared not bring Reuben close to the Inn. I was concerned how this company might receive me. I know they would not have received him without ample warning," Ro'kath spoke quietly for only Sky's ears again.

I am a druid healer which would help you two tremendously. I too have fighting abilities, Arcane spell that I use on my arrows, and masks I have made over the years that do many differant types of magic,  special attacks, breath weapons, and preist type spells." ,Sky told him in a whisper.

Suddenly a gust of wind blew open the door and through it swept tiny, white bird, it's wings and tail tipped with black. It circled the room before landing on one of the twigs stuck in Radagast's hat. At the same time a bright red squirrel joined Pico on the table. Before the door closed those looking outside could make out the silhouette of a massive elk.

The little bird was surrounded by a floating snowflakes and when it opened it's mouth a voice came out that should have belonged to a much bigger body, "You called? What is it that you need of me, of us?"

Meanwhile the squirrel took one of the nuts laid out for Pico and took off with it, finding his way to higher ground where he started to eat it.

As Ehrendil entered the inn, he looked around quietly taking in his surroundings. His hand was resting on his sheathed sword. After a few moments, the elf seemed to relax somewhat as he saw no threat of immediate danger. A quick glance at the elf would indicate that he had been in a recent fight, his clothes, badly torn in several places. The elf held himself as someone who had much dignity and grace yet there was a definite air of wilderness and danger to the elf, almost as if part of him had been reclaimed by nature.

"Master Radagast the Brown. I Ehrendil, offer my greetings from one protector of nature to another." There was no mention of Ehrendil's father, only the nature of his duty was revealed. "It is an honor to meet one who has done so much for our cause." The elf made a slight bow, indicating the respect he had for the old man. "I apologise for my tardiness. Unfortunately, it would appear that these forests are no longer safe." The elf did not go into more details, sparing the wizard from the full reason for his tardiness. "I have come to offer my assistance in any way you see fit."

The elf stepped back and waited silently for a response, listening to those around him to learn more about the current situation. Through all this, Ehrendil's hand had never strayed far from his sword.

It sat oddly with him her deception regarding him. He frequently withheld information and attempted to conceal his nature. He had never portrayed any outright deception before, though. Still, he deeply appreciated the kindness of her intention. It was unheard of for someone to speak so on his behalf. The effort only drove home further how much he'd prefer to travel with her than any other stranger he might meet in pursuit of these tasks.

"Radagast, how set are these tasks? Is there reason to suspect they would go awry if we don't heed the suggestion of Keepers? Say if I were to join those delving the Mirkwood? Or should Sky come along to investigate Dol Guldur?" he asked above the general murmur with keen and hopeful interest.

Then there was much chatter.  A few more heroes entered and presented themselves to Radagast.  He sat and waited, puffing on his pipe quietly, his back to the table, so that he could easily view Radagast and show him the attention he deserved.

For Sky:

As Sky was wondering where she would be 'assigned', a chipmunk pops up out of her pocket, chirps at her for a moment before running down her arm to the tabletop. It stops then, looks up at her and chirps some more.

Then, when a new person enters the inn, it runs over to the edge of the table, even as a feather floats lazily down in front of Sky.

For Borjnen:

"The Keepers have long been a group of those who seek to protect the land and the forest and the animals that live within it. There is more than one threat in the woods this day, so they are asking for help to deal with that threat."

"The feather indicates you are suited for a visit to Dol Guldur, where something dark and dangerous still lingers."

For Arad:

"Greetings to you, Arad," Radagast replies to the newcomer. "You have been called by the Keepers because something perverse has taken up residence in the forest, and your services are needed to rid the Mirkwood of it."

"That feather falling down in front of you indicates that you are suited for the Keepers of Diwen; they are to go to Dol Guldur."

For Ehrendil:

"Master Ehrendil, the pleasure is mine, Radagast replies to the Elf, "and, yes, the woods are dangerous to travel. That is why you've been asked to join us."

"I believe the chipmunk--and who are you, Little One? Ah, he prefers to go by 'Chip'. I never would have guessed that! He seems eager to join you. That signifies that you are wanted in the Keepers of Kelvar group."

For Ro'kath:

"As you can see," answers Radagast to the Half-Orc's question, "you have free will to go where you wish, to do what you want. Friendship is a quite valuable trait, and it will always be taken into consideration."

"No. Any other questions I may have for the wizard can hold. Fresh air sounds delightful and I should like to meet your Nightshade," he answered.

Ro'kath took one last look about the Inn. So far he had only noted the dwarf and now Sky bound for his task. He wondered if there was another here whose feather might have slipped his notice. It mattered little, though. If nature was able to find him for this task he had no doubt nature could guide the Keepers of his group to each other. With this in mind he rose from his seat with the mild scraping of his chair legs along the floor.

"Any others present now bound for Dol Guldur may find us in the wood nearby. Please announce your approach, though. My other traveling companion can be a bit skittish and defensive," Ro'kath announced.

He waited just a moment to make sure everyone had heard him clearly. When his scan of the room confirmed that he began to walk for the door. His hood still concealed his features as he moved, his head tilted just slightly away from most of the assembled company. As he reached the door he stood back to the side and opened it. He gave and held a slight bow in Sky's direction.

"m'Lady," he offered respectfully as he held the door for her.

"Why how polite of you Ro'kath." ,said Sky as another elf was just passing through the door. "Grettings to you sir. I am Sky of the Nightelves clan. This is Ro'kath my new friend and master swordsman.",/red> ,Sky introduced them both and continued into the woods near by.

<red>"Ok Ro'kath lets have some fun. See if you can spot my friend Nitebreeze?

The black panter was perched in a tree on a large limb. As black as night with yellow eyes looking down at his companion and Ro'kath.

The night was dark with only a quarter moon out which made Nightbreeze even harder to spot. The panther liked being up in the trees. It was easier to pounce on unsuspecting foes when they walked past. HJe was about two-hundred-fifty pounds of pure muscle with claws the size of small daggers. His fangs were white, sharp, curved inward, and about six inches long. Nitebreeze's fur was slick and smooth. His scent was great and he was able to hide very well. Fast and agile like his companion they had met when Sky moved into the woods by her mountain home. At first the panter thought he wasn't seen by the elf, but he was wrong. Up in a tree like usual Nightbreeze was surprised when a chunk of deer meat came flying up at his face. Of course he caught it and had dinner. Sky made her camp about fifteen yards away and later that evening the panter found the nerve to appraoch Sky's fire.

Sky was slow when she stood and went tword him. Nightshade stood his ground and waited. Sky bent to his level and smiled at him. Slowly she extended her hand and stroked his head. Since then they have been inseperatable. Taking care of each other like a symbyotic relationship.

"So Ro'kath have you spotted him yet?"

Ehrendil felt a light touch on his left shulder, when he turned and looked a bit down he saw a mostly Human girl who just finished her meal.
"Do not waste your time on him, he will go to different direction. We are there..."
She pointed towards the table where the others waited the Wizard to tell them more about the job. Anna took her time to examine the elf from tip to toe.
"I am Anna, I am sure we will have good time together."
She walked back and sit down.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Ro'kath followed Sky out when she departed the Inn. The first few steps the weight of the crowded Inn still hung about him. The very moment his feet took him within the boundary of the woods, however, he instinctively breathed a deep sigh of relief as if said weight had lifted completely. This was his world, where he belonged.

As Sky threw out her challenge Ro'kath couldn't help the grin it elicited. His nose had told him of the presence of panther before she had even spoken. He paused for only a moment as his eyes scanned the vicinity to confirm it's whereabouts without his head turning so much as an inch. Barely two seconds had passed before he raised his arm, finger extended to point at a laden branch not twenty feet from him a short ways up above.

"There," he said simply, cherishing the coy grin he bore.

It was a fun game. One at which he excelled. He had been an experienced hand at finding fauna since he was barely more than a child. The game was only a distraction though, if a pleasant one. He had an introduction of his own to make and he was certain it wouldn't be quite so playful. Not to mention he was still concealing his features, a flicker of shame in the presence of one so tolerant and accepting.

"For your kind acceptance I believe wearing the hood further does you a disservice. Please, don't be startled. Behold the curse I bare," Ro'kath said with a heavy and hesitant breathe before raising his hands to lower the hood before they returned nervously to his sides.

Ro'kath's eyes were a sharp crystalline blue, glinting like sapphires caught in a ray of light. His ears, long and thin, resembled closely those of an elf save for their coloring. His skin, a pale but distinct gray in color, looked to have a smooth leathery quality to it. His hair was a deep auburn, somewhat unkempt yet not quite wild. It fell roughly to his shoulders and while most of it flowed free it was laced with the occasional warrior's braid. While his face remains relatively shaven his mutton chops have grown to be just slightly bushy. The rest of his features are what always causes alarm. His broad nose is stunted and short, much like those of the mountain orcs. Ro'kath's face is framed by a strong rigid jaw that juts perhaps just a fraction too far forward, another reminder of the mountain orcs. His lips are slightly pursed by the barely notable protrusion of two small tusk-like teeth. In truth, he looks more orc than he does elf or man.

The mountainous man stood there awkwardly before the raven haired elf maiden. His stance was nervous, as was the clenching of his fists around the edges of his cloak. His face remained forward for Sky to get the full measure of him. His eyes, however, were shifted harshly to the side for he feared to watch her reaction to seeing the truth of his lineage.

Ehrendil gave Anna a sincere smile. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Anna, I too look forward to our future time together."

He followed her to the table. It was rare for elves to show their emotions. Ehrendil on the other hand was much more open with his instincts than most others of his race. "I am glad to see you once again uncle, it has been many a moon."

After the greetings with his uncle, Ehrendil introduced himself to the others. "For those who don't know me, I am Ehrendil. I specialise in knowledge relating to both nature and the arcane. I am a Tempest who seeks to protect the lands and all natural life that inhabits it." The elf looked around at the others, giving them a small bow. "I am inspired to find that you have also dedicated yourselves to such a task."

With the introductions done, Ehrendil took the seat offered to him by his uncle.

But thats just my opinion. I hope it dosen't offend you in any way?" ,Sky told Ro'kath.

"And yes there is Nightbreeze. You either have darkvision or great scent abilities? Nightbreeze hop down and meet Ro'kath." The panther quickly did so and rubbed against Sky's leg. He then went to Ro'kath slowly and sniffed at his hand. "I think he likes you. You may rub his head if you like? He loves the attention." ,said Sky.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

He didn't visit the Red Leaf Inn very often--it was just ever so much removed from the living land that it was... a bit uncomfortable if he lingered there too long. But, a mead now and then was good for the soul.

As he smoked his pipe between sips of mead, he stared at the book lying on the table before him. It was unfinished business--the Book of Souls.

And then there was the map. It had been tucked into the back of the book. It didn't mean anything at first. Stuff always got stuffed into books... as a place holder, as a makeshift temporary hiding place for something you didn't want your mother to see, as a convenient holding spot for a book mark. A map was unusual. At first glance, he didn't recognize the land it represented. He thought it must have been something more local, probably done by explorers rather than a bird's-eye view.

The name also eluded him: The Vast.

And that's when he noticed the name in the lower right corner: Pallando. Pallando the Red. One of the Blue Wizards.

If there was any sound that marked the presence of Saxon, it was that wagon. Pots and pans, bobbits and whatsits, more alchemy than you could shake a stick at and even more odd doodads that he had made himself over time. Come hell or high water he would never be without the only home he cared about. The only other home he had was one not worth mentioning.

When he popped the door open he looked about like he was in some kind of storybook, his burning eyes looking from one side of the Inn to the other. Right before he raised up both of his arms in his normal happy go lucky self. "Rad!" He moved over like a nephew meeting an uncle. "You good?"

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

It had definitely been an adventure, many ups and downs that had tested to heart of Anira.  She had never given up, though, simply because Radagast was with them.  In the end they had gotten the Entwives back and there was a great sense of accomplishment yet now she found it difficult to simply settle down.  She had returned home and enjoyed a bit of time with her parents and had made some rounds with her mother to see to this sick but the time had changed her, made her a bit restless.

So she made her way to the Red Leaf Inn, thinking a bit of a drink and perhaps catching a glimpse of her mentor would do her some good.  It seemed she wasn't the only one as she stepped inside and saw Saxon had already found the magical oddity who had led them on their grand adventure.  She hung back a little, a soft smile forming as she waited for the men to finish their greeting.  Then she stepped forward and hugged Radagast, grinning at Saxon.  "It's good to see you both."

Just then, Anira enters the inn, too. Was this a sign? Or did they all now gravitate toward each other because of the Quest?

True, they were all Keepers. Was that all it was? Or was it another stirring in the world?

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

The map has a faint magical trace to it, which Anira realizes is some sort of preservation magic... probably to keep the map from getting damaged by careless handling... or crumbling from age. As minor as it is, it is still very potent magic.

Magic isn't normally permanent. Simple 'permanent' spells have a duration of about a year. Advanced magic, such as Permanency (used for enchanting items), has a duration of about 100 years. This is based on the item being used. If it just sits in some vault unused and sheltered from the ravages of time, it could last much longer.

That seems to be the case with this map.

The magic probably also extends to the ink used to scribe it. When making a magical spell scroll, for instance, the paper and the ink have to be 'trued'... that is, free from flaws (i.e. masterwork)... as well as receptive to magic. So that might also contribute to the map's condition.

There is something odd about the paper, but she can't quite put her finger on it at the moment.

As for what is displayed on the map, she, like, Radagast, has never heard of a place called The Vast. None of the places on the map are familiar either.

And that's when she realizes what's odd about the paper: it's been twisted! She doesn't quite understand how it is twisted, but if it was a dress, it'd be like turning it inside out. She still may not recognize any of the places once the map has been 'un-twisted', but she does realize that the key is the words 'The Vast'. Those haven't been twisted.

She further realizes that the location of those words is significant... in two ways. It's both the focal point for un-twisting the map (however one does that) and it indicates the only place depicted by the map where you could teleport to. That's what those little 'decorative' symbols on and around the letters mean. (Mapmakers often embellish their maps to make it unique and to leave their mark on it.)

Anira took her time with the map, her brow furrowing now and then and soft little hums vibrating in her throat as she tried to figure out the oddity of the map.  Her eyes widened then as she realized a bit of what was going on with it, though she couldn't quite decipher how to untwist the blasted thing.

"If we could figure out how to ... turn this the right way," she mused aloud then showed it to Lady Isile and Saxon.  "It's like a shirt that's inside out and it's all centered on 'The Vast'," she said to them, wondering if perhaps they might know of a way to set it right.  They had different training and knowledge of magic, hers being more innate rather than learned.

He stares at it intently for a few minutes before continuing.

"Yes. Inside out... though I din't see how a flat sheet of paper could be inside out. The Vast... Could that be it? There's a line in the paper under the words The Vast... or is it a slot? Pull it apart slightly..."

"Based on the angle, it would have to be the lower right corner. Try to push the corner through the slot... No, wait! Twist the corner so that it goes through the slot right side up! Now pull the paper through from the other side!"

"Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

He watches with unbridled joy as Anira seems to turn the paper inside out!

"So, we have a few possibilities that I can think of."

"One, these are real, familiar places but the names have been changed to disguise them."

"Two, it is some hitherto unknown land far beyond the East. If the Blue Wizards went there, they were either trying to prevent Sauron from gaining allies or resources from this place or else they were trying to gain allies against Sauron."

"The real question is: how did they find out about The Vast."

"Three, The Vast is some other world, some other plane, some other dimension... some... Other Place."

he reads off the names on the map.

"Are any of these names familiar to anyone?"

"I've not heard of any of them."

"Some of them sound Sindarin, and the rest sound foreign. The exception seems to be this one: Wretched Bridge."

"What do you make of that?"

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Lady Isile listened to Radagast speak off the names and she thought she knew a few of them. She has been traveling over the lands for many years and been able to blend in with locals or travel by unseen with her magic.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

"The Vast is a place on this map," Radagast explains to Eomund. "The Blue Wizards made this map, of peculiar magic."

"Other than a name on a map, none of us have ever heard of this Vast before. We don't know where it is."

"On the other hand, the only name on this map is the Wretched Bridge, which we could not read until the map's secret was revealed."

"I think that is the way to reach the Vast. Anira here can teleport us, but only if she has a destination, which I believe is this Wretched Bridge."

"It may not be so simple as I state, Anira, but I believe that is the path to the Vast."

"We just have to decide that we're going," Radagast comments, "then make sure that we are ready to go."

"Then it's up to Anira. Whenever she's ready to try teleporting us all."

Lady Isile raised an eyebrow when mentioning about teleportation.

Looking over to Anira "Have you been to this location before?

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

"I'm pretty sure she hasn't," Radagast finally answers for Anira as she's been contemplating an answer.

"I can't quite understand how it works, but I'm pretty sure that this map... or maybe more exactly that particular image... serves as a focus."

"Teleport can be enhanced by object focuses as well as pattern focuses. I can feel the magic in the map now. If I'm correct, this symbol is linked to the real location. I can't say for certain, but I would estimate only a 1% chance of error."

"You just need to clear your mind, Anira... or is that what you've been doing? And then when you cast the spell, don't look at the symbol... look into it."

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Lady Isile knew that Teleportation was a risky and dangerous spell if one don't know where they were going but if it was a higher level spell that prevented such errors then that was best.  But Lady Isile didn't fully know the limits of Anira's spell capabilities.

Re: The Red Leaf Inn

Anira had been totally engrossed in the map and her thoughts but the second (or was it third?) time Radagast said her name she looked up, smiling a little sheepishly.  "I'm so sorry," she said and then let out a breath and nodded.  "It's just so fascinating and at first I was worried I couldn't teleport us all but I think with Lady Isle's help and the enchantments on the map that we could successfully teleport to the right place," she stated with a fair amount of confidence.
