Re: Scout Courier Isokaze
I was here on a hunting trip, supposedly. Mako chuckles. But the truth is t far from the old Factor's accusations. I was to meet Captain Finlay Giles a pirate. Who promised sentimental merchandise for a client of mine. We were dropped off by a freighter and expected Giles to take us to the merchandise. The meet went poorly. Giles was a psycho of the 1st rank, bad even for his kind. We were ready to fight and he left all his promises were lies but I took this risk because the items he pretended to have were sentimental and important to my client.

"Psychotic ?  Doesn't sound so bad.  You never met the baron's sister Lady Svenkman !"

Ardens shudders at the recollection, though eyes the Captain in what he obviously hopes is a surreptitious manner, still hoping to distract her from his friend's plan.

" Never trust a pirate you don't have at the end of a shotgun." Rutger commented sympathetically." I have an idea...let's bug out of this place before something else happens. My sense of adventure is satisfied for now."

Re: Scout Courier Isokaze
Cora had to chuckle at the comment about Lady Svenkman.  "No comment on the nobility especially when we are still on this dust ball.  Mako, you and your companion can hitch a ride this planet with us.  We'll settle anything else later.  Somebody plot me a course out of here and make sure we'll be able to get more fuel if need be.  Everybody be on alert for Pirates as well as anything that might remind you of your...last voyage here."

Cora looked over at Kris  and motioned for her to sit in the Captains chair.  Cora sat down at the pilots station, still in her suit, waiting for navigation to plot her a course.

"Saphhire, settle Mako and Company in their assigned quarters.  We'll all meet up in a bit."

Cora turned her chair around to look at Mako again and smiled.  "I'm sorry, what was your companions name again and does he speak?"

"I don't think Joenah's up to it," Ardens responds doubtfully to Cora's request for a course to be plotted.  "He didn't look at all well outside."

"If nobody else knows what they're doing, then I'm game to give it a go.  No formal training, I'll admit, but how hard can it be ?  Just have to avoid hitting suns and planets !"

In reply to Ardens Grafton (msg # 975):

jump Nav, is pretty easy, Just factor  the relative positions, velocities, and vectors of the target systems, compensate for the rotation and drift of the galaxy, adjust for any major gravitational wells along your flight path, then make sure you allow for the expansion of time-space .... and of course pick an exit point that isn't in the flight path of an of these." Rutger commented as he pulled up the navigation charts for the system thousands of objects appeared on eh list and in the graphical interface. each one with its own volume velocity and vector listed."In system nav is where it gets tricky, cause that changes every trip, some idiot chucks a wrench out the hatch during repair work and the next guy slams into it at 45,000 kilometers an hour...might as well have shot him with a rail gun.

Good evening, Please call me Akuekei. I endeavor to keep the gentleman here intact. I will gladly engage in discourse on any subject for the duration of our service on board.

He speaks with a rough voice and precise, articulate diction.

Before embarking on the next journey, I ask that you grant me a simple boon and hover over the avenue before this tavern. I wish to leave them a gift.

Cora looked at Akuekei for a moment.  "A gift can take many forms.  Would this gift be welcomed by them?  It is not necessarily a good thing to "hover" over a public street."

"Third panel to the left from the hatch, second row, there is a switch labeled purge." Rutger gave a dry chuckle." It Wouldnt be the first time a ship has accidently dumped it's waste tanks when flying over a starport dive."

He began to plot a course out of the system on his panel as he talked

Akuekai chuckles. We were in discussion about establishing educational opportunity for the residents here. There was something an old woman said about leading to a new world, in any case I would give this spare data pad with its encyclopedia and science database to the man at the bare to share. They do keep things in common I believe some of the townsfolk may self-educate.

I could run over and return ... Or just drop it wrapped up it would tolerate a fall of 3 meters.

The raw physics Ardens can handle, but the engineer stares in horror at the sheer amount of space junk that is being tracked.  "And that's just the stuff they know about ?" he inquires tentatively, certain he's not going to like the answer.

"No we are not going to stay here.  Run scans over the package before we drop it off to make sure it's safe and then lets get out of here.  Rutger?  Who's plotting my course.  Rutger are you doing that?"

Cora smiled at Ardens change of mind but hers hadn't changed yet.

Ardens nods resignedly.  His eyes stray towards a terminal, fingers itching to call up sensor data, tracking systems and whatever comforting information the computer can give him concerning hull thickness and impenetrability ... but with Rutger on navigation, it falls to him to look after the moving parts.

"I'll be in the drive room ..." he dips his head respectfully to Cora as he shuffles off.

Akuekai permits Rutger to evaluate the comm device. He sets it up for a novice with no security and an open video explaining how they can learn from it and that he hopes they share it well and use the kinetic battery charging function. As promised he gives Mako credit for the generous gift.

If all is well he will deliver it by any method allowed and silently return to cleaning and organizing his and Mako's equipment.

Once it was verified that the package was what Akuekei said it was Cora nodded.  "Very well.  I will let you off ship to deliver it.  Make it as quick as possible because I want to take off again.  I don't like the idea of dropping it.  Cinder Klaus is the only one who is allowed to drop packages."

Cora turns back around and if she needs to pilot the ship closer so that Akuekei can deliver the package she does.

Re: Scout Courier Isokaze

Cora waited for Akuekei to come back to the ship.  She had noticed Ardens "hanging" on and smiled.  He certainly did seem to think that something was going to happen but then he ALWAYS thought something was going to happen.

The law of averages said that sooner or later Ardens would be right.  This was the time.

Cora was piloting the the ship out to a safe jump distance in preparation of piloting it away from this world. She made a mental note to cross this world off her list of planets to voluntarily visit when the lights started to dim.

"ARDENS!  What did you touch!"

A little later the lights steadied but then the computer made an announcement that nobody liked to hear when it wasn't planned.

ATTENTION:  ATTENTION:   JUMP SEQUENCE HAS STARTED.  REPEAT...JUMP SEQUENCE HAS STARTED.

~At least we're more than 100 diameters out.~ quickly ran through Cora's mind as she was trying to figure out what happened.

Even without live comms, the Captain's question/accusation carries the length of the ship.  Tied to his chair, Ardens snatches his hand away from the keypad with alacrity, a look of abject horror growing on his face as he stares at the screen disbelievingly.  "Nothing !  I didn't touch anything !  But ... that's not possible !"

ATTENTION:  ATTENTION:   JUMP SEQUENCE HAS STARTED.  REPEAT...JUMP SEQUENCE HAS STARTED.

"No, no, no, no, no, no no ..."

Ardens starts pressing keys randomly, pounding the board with his fists as the terminal stubbornly refuses to respond.

Engineering!  What's happening!

"Umm ... I think we might be heading into jump a little earlier than planned ..."

<THUMP THUMP THUMP>  "Oh, come on !!"

"Ah ... there may be some turbulence ..."
