"Anything you can dig up on cure for or prevenention of metal eating viruses that could get through a ship's hull," Ardens leads off, "hypothetically ... and something to boost a signal through an ionization layer.  That's a 'just-in-case'."

The engineer tries real hard to look like the brains of the outfit, or at least mad genius.

"You'd need some high tech comm system for that and for metal eatin' virus. Well good luck with that. We aren't likely to have either, but I'll check."

" Never let him read an article on the theoretical, applied uses, of self replicating, nano-tech, viruses in weaponized form."Rutger chuckled in a good natured way.using words far more complex than his mono and duo syllable preferences." Now that ionization is a real pain, our ships com array seems to be really sensitive to it.

"I checked with Sparks and he says you got one aboard already, your meson comm system. They're too bulky to be portable. You didn't know that huh."

" Yeah, that's a good system but a bit bulky for our needs, we also end up trying to talk to people who don't have meson rigs of their own.....

Richard considered; "A high powered laser system tuned for the particular atmosphere should work unless we are in heavy cloud cover.  Even then some frequencies will pierce the clouds as well."

"Don't suppose one of them is a recent addition to your inventory ?" Ardens ventures, trying to leverage causality.

The engineer tries a friendly smile in the face of those glares, but it comes across as more of a manic grin.  He decides against asking the chief to check if the serial numbers on the devices are identical ...

Alright guys we've pestered the Navy enough for one day, lets get the resupply handled and enjoy some hospitality." Rutger spoke up and motioned toward the two NCOs. " anything you cna help with is fine, if you need anything off the inventory of the Isokaze we can send it over...don't see what we have that could help out...other than the photographer...she'd raise moral a bit I think....or start a mutiny...not sure about that lady."

"She just signed on back at base." Rutger shrugged. "I guess they wanted to put her somewhere out of the way."

"if this trip is as fun as the last one she may have her hands full....just take my word for it."
Rutgers expression was one of a mix of disgust and a bit of wry humor, and hinted that he wasn't open to discussion at the moment.

"Not really, we know they're in the area, but they stay one step ahead of us. Captain keeps trying different strategems to smoke them out."

The engineer is more reluctant to join the others for a meal, not only because he'd been optimistically hoping to rifle through the ship's inventory, but moreso as he enjoys social interactions about as much as others enjoy his company.

With the sigh of a condemned man and a last raised and questioning brow at Rutger in a silent prayer for help, Ardens trails after Richard.

... to exit hours later, much relieved to find that he hasn't yet managed to bring down the wrath of the imperium upon himself or his shipmates.  Though he suspects that mostly due to the stories with which Rutger entertained the crew.  The problem was, he suspects they were all true !  Though there was one thing to say for the ex-Scout - his life might be exciting, but he's still around !

Ardens wants nothing more than to get back aboard the Isokase, but there's a large pile of supplies in the dock that won't be moving themselves.  With a sigh and a stifled groan he starts work ...

Rutger enjoyed a meal not cooked in the mini-gallery of the scout, or taken from a fresh seal tray.Sharing stories with the Navy guys. fishing for gossip, and passing on any he'd picked up.

He mentioned pirates n the area n passing trying to figure out if they had seen any or not.The fact the pirates had been lurking around on his first visit not far from his mind.

Atlantic has seen evidence of heavy pirate activity.  Both Zho and Arden Federation likely supporting them.
