Cool. Well that makes 6 of our 14 people with no opposition. A few more responses and we will have a majority... then I will add it to the rules.

Re: Shared OOC 1
Noted... however, Can you expound on your reasoning? I am not disputing your opinion, I just want to understand it. I was thinking about the whole "rolling thing" this afternoon and thought I might add some detail on how I would implement it...

I would expect everyone to write their post first.. and then roll. A well written post that has no particular reason to fail would not fail on a poor roll... I just want something to account for a luck factor to spice up the back and forth actions between player and GM.

So that would mean no rolling first... discovering you rolled a 2 and then writing a post that exemplifies that low roll. Successes and failures would still be based on the appropriateness of the action and the likelihood that the particular character would succeed. Not sure if I am just rambling, but I wanted to make sure to clarify that the roll is not a determining factor on the overall success or failure but just a luck factor. Sure... on some low rolls an action might fail but it wouldn't be happening because of a low roll per-say. IE... Lalita tries to engage in hand-to-hand combat with a knight in full armor.. .and rolls a 1. Failure is imminent regardless of the roll lol.

Re: Shared OOC 1
Sure.

The way I view free-form, and in part role-playing in general, is that it is collaborative storytelling. When telling a story, I want full control (or at least shared control with GM) on how the story progresses. In many stories, a character taking a wound or barely surviving can be a turning point in the story. When you start leaving things to chance, you partially lose control over scenes.

Similarly I don't like chance potentially placing characters in fail-states (dead, wounded, or unable to overcome an obstacle) in free-form games. In most full game-systems, there are ways to statistically mitigate risk that are harder to quantify without the predetermined rules surrounding contests and challenges.

In the end, what the GM says goes. Whether you want to do that via dice or not is your call. I don't think you'd mess anything up with it, but if I had to state a preference, I'd say no thank you. I just don't really see it adding much.  *shrug*

Now time to finally get that post up.. >.>

Re: Shared OOC 1
I think a d20 in the fassion of luck of success and randomness is alright by me so long as you have a plan should the action succeed or fail. I wouldn't want your plot ideas to deviate to far because everyone got bad luck. So a shaky yes from me with only minor concerns.

Re: Shared OOC 1
Similar to the old west end star wars rpg I like the idea but maybe make it some thing like low= complication on top of really of action and high= additional small benefit on top of action

Re: Shared OOC 1
Ya, the dice roll will not impact success or failure of an action. It would just help me when writing responses to people to have some minor direction outside of the general story flow. If I determine an action has succeeded or failed... I would appreciate a bit of randomness to help me create interesting responses. IE: a high roll on an attack that I determine is successful might obliterate an enemy where a low roll would just be a successful attack which severely wounds an enemy.

Awww Lalita, I loved your fish puns and Lynessa your RTJ was one of my favorites... one of the only ones I accepted without requiring extensive alteration. It was a good time.

Congrats on the promotion!
Sorry to hear about the game, but I do understand how a huge workload can eat up your time. Had to leave quite a few games because of it myself. It's been fun writing with everyone! :)

FATE is a pretty cool system. I'm wondering though...what are the differences between FATE core and FATE Advanced?

Re: Shared OOC 1
Im not sure about FATE advanced... I only recall seeing stuff about FATE and FATE accelerated which is just a quick guide to the system... so I fail at answering that haha. I am just learning the system now, but it seems easy and clever.
