I have 3 core Krewe members thought up. I’ll leave the rest up to you guys.

Probably just 2 per character though, since the Krewe strives to remain hidden. A large membership probably doesn’t make sense.

I know it’s a cliche, but I think the Krewe Safe Place will be a funeral home. If that helps anyone, when designing your background Krewe members.

Are we okay to grab some individual dots of Safe place at get go? As first thing in town, my immediate thought would be arranging for lodgings.

I'm a little low on dots, but I at least have 1 XP to contribute to Krewe Safe Place.

Krewe Creation
I have an idea for my two background characters. They are kinda tied to each other.

Maxine 'Max' Hollaway. A little Lisbeth Salander (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) vibe. A punk rock girl with mad hacking skills. She's mortal, but has some kind of supernatural power (figure the GM can pick any as appropriate) She is also the Krewe member responsible for setting up the fake IDs for the Alternate Identity portion of the Mystery Cult Merit.

Jack Carver. A ghost and the maternal grandfather of Max. He was a Cleveland police officer in life, who took in his granddaughter after both her parents died in a car accident. When she was ten, there home was broken into during the night and Jack died protecting Max from the intruder.

When Max went into the system, Jack followed her from foster home to group home, always anchored to her. When one of the Group home employees tried to rape his granddaughter, he pushed himself to action once again; killing the man with his newly discovered ghostly powers. After materializing in front of Max, they ran away together, ultimately ending up with the Krewe.

Good stuff.

Does anyone want to create the 'Face' for the funeral home? The mortal who actually runs the business? They would have to be part of the Krewe as well.

Krewe creation has its own dots to spend as well. I figured I would give a few bonus XP or Merits since its an existing Krewe you guys will be joining.

To begin with. Here is a passage from the Mystery Cult Initiation Merit in the book.

Mystery Cult Initiation:
Notes: Sin-Eaters who begin play as members of a krewe receive one dot of Mystery Cult Initiation for free. In addition, krewe celebrants automatically know all krewe Ceremonies whose dot rating is equal to or less than their Mystery Cult Initiation rating.
No member of a krewe can have more dots in Mystery Cult Initiation than the krewe’s Esotery rating (p. XX).

So, I don't think the Krewe's Esotery rating will start at 5; so those higher Mysteries will need to be unlocked during play.

I think Cenote would be a strong place to put Krewe Merits, since their home base is a funeral home.

Oh, looking at the Merits in the book; I saw Good Time Management had a ‘Krewe’ tag. I already took that Merit, I can just add it as a Krewe Merit and everyone would have access to it.

Re: Krewe Creation
A contribution to the krewe, based on what we talked about ST -

Persephone - real name Mary Harper. Don't call her a Necromancer - technically she is, but not the sort that Sin-Eaters usually contend with. Kat rescued her from the upper levels of the Underworld a year or so ago after she unwittingly traveled there as part of some kind of mystical Awakening, and the Krewe took care of her until she was found by another magic-user like herself, calling himself a "Moros", who took her in as an apprentice and trained her in their particular brand of magic. Despite this, she remained close with the Krewe, and when she completed her apprenticeship opted to travel with the group to Cleveland. A quiet girl with a decidedly "goth" aesthetic, she has a surprisingly in-depth knowledge of folklore and the occult, and is always happy to use her magical talents to assist the Krewe in studying about supernatural phenomenon.

In reply to Kairos (msg # 32):

Yes. For sure.

You’d most likely create a Ghost already attached to the local Cleveland Krewe though.

If you create a Ghost attached specifically to your Character, you want to make sure that at least 1 if not more of their anchors are easily transportable to a new city or to people in the new city.

Taking a Ghost away from their anchors will pretty much destroy it.

Re: Krewe Creation
No need to create a Mortician as a Krewe member. I'm going to nix the funeral home as a base of operations.

I came up with a less cliche idea and one that fits the needs of the story a bit more.

Can I have a ghost anchored to a car?

Specifically a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass, cherry red, with a convertible soft top?

Are we all going to have vehicles?

Are we just going to turn this game into the Fast and the Furious: Underworld Drift?

(Not that I would complain lol)

Re: Krewe Creation
Name:  Cutlass Sally
Description:  It's rare for ghosts to be bound to mobile tethers, but Cutlass Sally lived and died for the rode.  At least, that's what she wants others to believe.  The name seems a little... forced... yet she insists its hers.  She manifests as a dark skinned woman with a  wide brimmed hat, sunglasses covering her eyes, and a long cigarette in her lips.  Her clothes suggest she might have died as far back as the 40s or 50s, but like so much the ghost does, it might all be an affectation.  She speaks with a husky voice when she can, and usually goes out of her way to pretend like her mortal coil never got cut.
Manifestation:  Possession

Sounds good. I’m pretty sure a ghost can Fetter to any object and with the right Numina/Influence can control it.

I’ll have to read up on it.

Re: Krewe Creation
I think we are getting pretty close to being able to start posting in the game thread. I think we just gotta figure out our Krewe stats. So lets start with the basics.

Name:
Concept:
Archetype:

Virtue:
Vice:

I think we settled on the fact the existing Krewe here in Cleveland is trying to preserve themselves and other ghosts/supernaturals from being erased by some sinister force; which they refer to as the Vanishing.

A simplified concept would be: Avoid the Vanishing?

The closest Archetype I can see that matches that concept, is Mourners.

I will let you guys come up with the Krewe's Virtue and Vice and allow that to flavor the Krewe NPC's attitudes based on your choices.

I'd kind of have to agree with the Mourner as our particular archetype and dig the name. Sort of hung on virtue and vice though for the krewe as a whole.

Yea, Mourner makes the most sense for sure. The name sounds like it could fit too.

For Virtue... something to do with what's keeping the people in Cleveland despite the danger. Courage? Compassion, in that they seem to care about the well-being of these other supernatural forces?

Vice I think can be more open-ended depending on the group's way of coping with the danger/stress.

Re: Krewe Creation
I like the ideas so far. All very strong.

So, if there are no objections; I’ll modify the name and archetype.

I chose the Cautious Virtue because they have lasted by being Cautious, not anything heroic or noble.

I'd almost want to contrast caution with indulgence as the means of stress control or the like. Everyone has a watering hole or other place they retreat to in order to cope or just forget... and when spiritual oblivion is the enemy...
