That sounds....well crazy man. I can look into it for you though. There is a pause on the other end of the phone line. You need me tonight? Shoot me a text where you want to meet.

"Sounds good. I will contact you tonight about the when and where." He hangs up, and glanced over at Rue. "Well, he is in. He is big into dead people liberation for some reason. He may very well be the key to take away our enemy's advantage. Then we can really start fucking with them without worrying about ghosties tracking us down."

Rue nodded. "Sounds good." She didn't like the idea that she could be observed by ghosts without the possibility of counter-detection, hopefully this new asset would help to prevent that. Still, there was nothing she could do about it at the moment, and she turned back to her analysis.

Jake proceeded to make arrangements to meet with his ghostly ally via text. Hopefully once they had their meeting, and he told of what he had learned-that would be enough. Of course, Jake knew very little about ghosts-other than they could be a really big pain...

Re: Safehouses
"Sarah needs some colour, so our next request goes out to her.  Cleveland's own Toad and a Microwave from their 1998 self titled ep, this is 'Higher the Rise, Harder the Fall' come to you from KDNA, Beat of the Revolution," the radio squawked out.

Dylan's eyes narrowed and he turned to look at the radio as the thrash punk music started to blare out, his system compensating for the volume change from the AM radio station.  He looked up at the clock and frowned.  This wasn't good news.  She was calling for war, but against whom he didn't know, and that was unsettling.  Was this planned or had it been something done in response to something she just found out.

"Fuck," he said to no one in particular, and fell back into his seat.  The lights were off in the room, and only the display from the radio emitted any light, a pale blue that left shadows everywhere.  It was too late to do anything, especially so close to sun up, and calling her would be a desperate move.  Tomorrow he would have see what he could sell to find out who her intended target was.

Re: Safehouses
As with so many others of the endless cogs of kindred society... A text came through from an anonymous number. One of a dozen burner phones that any sensible vampire in a domain dominated by Carthians and Acolytes kept on hand.

Trouble at the docks. was the text with an encrypted copy of the Coles' notes and an associated private key for the decryption. Review... See if you can keep the story from getting air time. was all it contained with a simple DA as the signature at the end of the text. Of course, there were few enough vampires in all of the city to have initials or titles that matched their initials.

Dylan smiled at the text.  His hand lifted his throw away cell phone he began to type slowly.  "Sure.  I'll keep them clean, but I'm not that cheap, at least not yet.  Tomorrow, dinner and some pillow talk :)," he typed as his smile twisted from one of happiness to a sly one.

Doubt you'll like the pillow talk. War's in the air and it doesn't seem far off. As for dinner, something can be arranged. came the reply from the same anonymous number.

Re: Safehouses
"All war and no play makes Jack an animal.  Tomorrow then," his hands rapidly typed back.  He had already started sending messages out to his handlers from other phones.  His proxies did all the real work in times like these.  His job would come after things had cooled.

This was the problem with what the new order had done.  While they gallivanted around the city, those that had escaped the purge were probably sitting in hiding watching, readying themselves for an assault.  He wondered if Rosey was working alone.  He hoped that was the case.  If there were others however still hiding, they may see her return as a signal to strike, using the chaos of her actions to take care of some key grudges they had been sitting on for over a decade and a half.  He knew better than to get in the middle of a fight like that.

As long as his sire lay dead, he didn't care, and if that mother fucker rose, the thought made Dylan's hair stand on end.

The messages he had sent out was a call to suppress the information.  Police were still investigating, was the excuse and the release of information at this time may hinder that investigation was what it was followed by.  Everything however was to hold until the last minutes of the publications.  They would have two stories, one with everything they had found, the other simply mentioning gun shots at the docks and an ongoing investigation.  They would be contacted now, but told to call back their handler before they ran with any story about the docks for confirmation to hold back or go ahead with it.

His handlers, proxies, ghouls as the more vulgar put it, knew to squash the story when that call came, but they were on watch for something else.  They were looking to find out if someone else had power over their contacts, if someone else had crept their way into their network, knowingly or unknowingly.  A story like this may make the ambitious try to make a name for himself, or the frightened come storming out with all their connections.  If there were orders that clashed with his, and if his contacts would reveal those orders, or go ahead with them was all important information.  His proxies' jobs were more than just phone calls and orders, they were rooting out double agents, and trying to find other agents working for others that Dylan would need to turn to his ends and against their handlers.

Layers beneath management were contacted to keep an eye and see if anyone else was calling their editors and chiefs, making demands.  That included wives to some editors, other members of the news agency, and even cleaning ladies and interns.

At the same time on the ground reporters were being called and offered money, blackmailed, or told how it would please the version of Dylan they had been bound to at one point, for anything they found, and to come to them personally if it was big.  Reporters that had found something big needed work done that only Dylan could do in times like that and keeping them in squared away in a room waiting his arrival was important.

At the same time the most trusted of these reporters were to spy on other reporters, to see if anyone had contacted them.  It was all his, from the bottom up, as far as Dylan saw it.  His unlife depended on it.  As long as he controlled the media outlets they would need him to keep their precious lie alive.  He needed to keep himself one step ahead of everyone in return, spying on their masters through the agents they believed they had, and squashing them should it come to that, simply to prove a point.  This was his domain, his fucking stomping grounds, and he would defend it as ruthlessly as any would a block, a club, their herd, or even a Prince with his city.

Re: Safehouses
Dylan's evening had started off busy, reading texts and listening to voice mails left over night, he wanted to make sure his personal touch wasn't needed on any nosy reporter.  If there was one, it would serve as an interesting meeting place, if there was a lot his night would be ruined, and any meeting would need to take place on the road.

As Mary helped him get dressed, and read some of her reports, his fingers typed out a quick text to last evenings informant. "I was promised dinner, and possibly some pillow talk.  Turns out its dinner time," the words said on the screen before he sent the message our.

"Get Mike to grab the CTS, warm her up, and pull it up front.  I got a call to make," he told her.  "You've had a busy day, and tomorrow is going to be no different, so make sure you get your sleep.  If anything urgent comes up call me," he instructed her, and waited until she was gone before he made his call.

In the quiet he dialed Daniel's number, and put it on speaker phone as he placed the phone on his desk, and slipped a gun into his shoulder holster and an extra clip.

Re: Safehouses
Dylan's phone was filled with messages from his contacts within Cleveland's various media outlets.   It appeared that even his considerable reach had its limits, and that he hadn't been entirely able to squash the story on his own.  The press was aware that  at least cop had been killed the night before at the Cleveland Docks, but that the police were keeping extremely quiet about what had happened until an investigation had been concluded.  There were even some reports circulating around the back channels that Homeland Security had gotten involved, due to the potential usage of a biological weapon, but that had yet to be confirmed or denied by any sources.

One of his newspaper editors, a Michael Peters, left an urgent message informing Dylan that he gotten a sneak peak at a coroner's report and seen that there were at least six bodies that had all been killed in somewhat similar circumstances, five found at the Docks and one found closer to Downtown in the Detroit Shoreway District.  The report had quickly been snatched away, but not before Michael had seen a note asking if the cause of death was similar to the two John Does found the day before in the Port.

Two editors for the morning paper reported that three of their journalists had been wanting to publish a more detailed account of the attacks, and had fought long and hard to get their story out.  When they had been routinely denied, one reporter had apparently gone so far as to post the story to Reddit.  The story now had about a hundred upvotes, but hadn't made it to the front page.  The journalists name was Macy Heart, and she denied any knowledge of having done anything despite the article being posted online being an almost word for word copy of her own submitted article.

Re: Safehouses
Dylan laughed, "Honour is it now." Dylan straightened his jacket in front of the mirror, and messed up his hair.  "Seems it's all work and no play these coming nights, so I'm going to keep it short and sweet.  Your plate is going to be full in a couple of hours.  The Cacophony will be blaring loud when I'm done talking with you, and people may be coming to your club for more information.  As always I want a cut, and any information you get out of them."

He picked up the phone and put it his ear, taking it off speaker phone.  "Deal?"

Re: Safehouses
"Same deal, and I may take you up on that offer, lets see how busy you are," Dylan said, his mouth twisting as he thought.  He would prefer back up just in case things went wrong, but the list of things that needed to be done tonight was mounting and he needed people he could trust, or at least partially trust, doing their thing.  "A calls going out over the beat.  Cops are loud and in charge tonight, possibly getting federal.  One dead lick."

"I understand your club's not open, but you got the permit.  Well guess what, your getting guests tonight for a private viewing,"
Dylan said with a smile, and paused to let Daniel take it in.  "Three knocks and Oppenheimer's rendition of the Hindu text upon seeing the first A-bomb shudder the world gets you in, and only the dead will come a'knocking."

"I need you to pick up what they know, any missing licks they know off.  Locations where the cops are heavier, and any trouble they may have gotten their asses in while feeding.  If you got blood to offer in bodies or bags, charge higher, for the next couple of nights are a sellers market.  You can also serve as middle man, see if anyone is offering and take a cut.  That is all yours.  I would recommend giving the Carthians a discount, I like them, and you want them on your side.  I'll take them over the Crones any day of the week if this little encounter flairs up."

"Now for the extra information you can sell.  Dead lick is a Crone, part of the Sheriff's own, or his deputy at least.  The cop killing was done by one of the deputies and the Crones."

"Now for information you fucking sit on and don't sell.  A dead lick may be back, and bad as they get.  Rotten Rosey, old Ordo, and the body count she laid before the take over in 1999 was huge.  She experiment on many of our kind.  When the change happened, her actions confirmed that the other covenants got their come uppings, so she needs to die Mr. Flanders, and die hard.  If anyone knows this shit, or makes mention of revenants, or ghouls of the cops then they know more than the average lick.  Play dumb and let me know who they are."

He let it sink in and lay quiet on the phone.

"My sire's a Carthian. Always tried to get me in on the Revolution, but I never really bought into the political side of things. Too messy, too... bitter, for my tastes. But I digress- I'll keep a look out for your friends, and I'll keep a couple of my lady friends handy in case people need a quick snack. And if I hear anything interesting... I'll let you know."

There's a pause at the end of the line. "Could you perhaps speak a bit more on this Rotten Rosie? I'd like to know in case I come across anything about her."

"Some Haunt, older than dirt, and had both the crone and god grab their ugly sticks and beat her like a pinata for a century or two, or so I've heard.  I don't really know shit about her.  I tried to avoid creatures like that when I started to my Requiem, and still do as a matter of fact," Dylan commented nonchalantly.  "What you find out I'd like to know, but don't go asking around.  Information I got was sketchy, and we aren't sure, and spreading that around will cause panic and trouble for the both of us, something we'd like to both avoid I'm sure."

Re: Safehouses
"Trust me, I'm keeping your number on speed dial.  If things remain quiet give me a call, I'd rather not take any risks even if I'm only have a few words with kine," he replied, his tone taking on a more serious touch.  "For now I want to get the full picture, or as clear a picture as possible, and having the licks that walk the streets down low feeding us information could help with that.  Don't think what I'm asking you to do is any small matter or one I'd trust to anyone.  I need you to ply information out, get favours owed, that will come handy if the Crones decide to start something with the Acolytes over their dead or we find out that Rosey has allies.  We play this right we come out of this thing better than where we're at."

"Now if its our little Rosey, she may not have resisted her old ways and probably already taken one or two licks that won't be missed.  Find that and we could be a step ahead of sheriff and his lackeys.  So keep me updated."

With another phone he was busy texting.  "Play Hot Nights by Trash, Bash and Crash followed by the Dead don't Rise by Adam House, and finally Savage Garden by Hosts.  Put a plug in for this club that will be opening soon right after," he texted the name and address.  "Keep on going with no commercials.  Three Knocks by Brothers Grim, and a song by Oppenheimer's Folly, don't name the song, just mention the band name."  The code he had used before, but since it was on the fly this time, he was hoping they would pick up on it.

"Look if they fuck up and say Oppenheimer's Folly or simply say Three Knocks, rather than fucking knocking three times correct them and let them in," he said after a moment of quiet on his end.  It was clear he had several things on his hands by the sounds of it.

"By the way, welcome to Cleveland."

"I've seen worse," Daniel said. "I'm frankly more concerned that there's no unified effort to deal with a Masq breach of this level. I'm not sure this Mayor is prepared to actually handle the problems of vampire existence."

"That, however, is something to be dealt with later. For now, I'll bid you adieu." And with that, the phone hangs up.

Re: Safehouses
"I think Ms. Carrol has taken the reins of this matter after the deputy fucked things up, but I could be mistaken.  As for the Prince.  I mean Mayer, not sure if he is behind her, or what is happening with him, but you seem to have more information about the matter than I do," Dylan said.  He doubted it, but wasn't going to be rude about it, and if Daniel didn't it may remind him to keep such talk down.  "Either way, this suits me just fine.  Always liked my women on top.  Though Liz may be a different matter," he said his voice trailing off a bit.  "That said I'll catch you later.  Caio."

In the background it was clear that Dylan was on the move.  "Your keys, sir," could be heard coming from someone, shortly before a door opened and the wind could be heard on the phones mic.

Dylan donned his gloves, and quickly look at the rear view mirror to make sure they had been set properly.  He was still impressed at how far cars had come, as only yesterday he was driving a beat up VW where nothing was automatic.

No sooner than putting his phone into its car holder another vibrated.  These days if he wasn't carrying three different ones he felt naked it seemed.  He picked up the phone and read the message, then a devilish smile came on his face.

I've heard this century women take the lead when it comes to these matters.  I was hoping you would be the woman to bring me into it.

Lets keep this simple then, tell me where I can pick you up and I promise to have you home before midnight.

Men and women are as demonized as they are in any other century. You're chatting with a figure of local memetic myth, after all. All through the wonders of telecommunications. Really, it's rather diminished the attention span of the average person but I digress.

I've a few favorite meeting spots around the city. If you'd care for a walk under the moonlight you can meet me at Rockfeller park in the parking lot near the south side. Say around 8 PM.
was the texted response with a coy note and a hint of a well tuned mind behind every word. The attention paid to proper spelling and punctuation in the text certainly insisted on some inclination towards propriety.

Re: Safehouses
How can I refuse that.  I'll see you then.

He had a long laundry list of things he needed to do, but this was first.  His wealth was evident from the car he drove to the suit he wore, and that normally was enough to stop the beat or traffic cop from stopping him, but there was no reason to taunt them on a night like this, so he did his full stops at stop signs, and kept his speed to the limit to not give any hint to his urgency to get things done.
