Given what he learned at the Mayor's place, the whole thing seemed like a bust. At least he got some recording of that other language they were speaking. That way he would not arrive empty handed. However, he wanted to check on it so he put in his headphones and gave a listen first.

You hear talking from the other guests around you as well as the music playing in the background. As the recording goes on, you hear a strong static sound, you figure coming from the area of the Mayor, when you pushed the recorder closer to them. No strange language, just static. This lasts for the remainder of the taped conversation.

Rue called up the lists that she had gotten from the two power players, comparing them to note any differences.

"This safehouse may not be so safe." He said, appearing by Rue. "I just tried to listen to the recording I had made-they screwed with it. Worse, it seems to leave a link into the spirit world. We may have to move our meeting spot after tonight. How the fuck is that asshole able to gather so much power from the ghosts and nobody else seems to have noticed?" He asked her.

She didn't get the woo--woo stuff, but it wasn't surprising to her that it had an equivalent of counter-surveillance. "All right, place is clean, we move now." She typed a command into the computer to tell it to strangle itself and swung open the safe. "Bugged item in there, let's move."

He would have to think about another way to get info-but the damn spirit world was a ghostly pain in the ass. Still, he had a way around him for the most part. Other vampires would not. He could use that to see how much power they could use against anyone with obfuscate.

All very well to have a ghost wandering along, but one is still limited by the abilities of the ghost. If the ghost checks it out we may see nothing. Still, even negative information is useful."

He may be able to help us...but he don't work cheap, and he's sorta weird." Jake said to Rue. Needless to say, what a vampire thought was weird must go beyond strange to the downright unimaginable.

She still remembered the geek who thought she was part of the package and would rather not go through that again. "Expensive in what way? Money, favors, what?" And while she was asking, what allies and enemies would they inherit with him? Always worth checking. The Vory boss who could get the passcodes but had a little gang war on his hands came to mind. "And is he a player? Come with any baggage?"

Still, we will want to consider each favor on it's own though. Some of the things that come to mind are just... sad. Avenging a murder victim is fine. Submitting to possession so that some dead girl can have one last bang with her husband is just icky." Rue shrugged. "Talk to him, see what he says."

She wasn't dead that way, or at least she hoped not. She knew that there were vampires who gave up on sex, finding the Kiss much easier and faster; but to her that was a precious chunk of her remaining humanity, and she didn't intend to let it slip away.

We are dealing with vampires enslaving ghosts-or they got someone like you to do it for them."
