Billy Laser Fist:
One thing I remember when we showed up was that there were three signals, ostensibly colonies, we noticed from orbit, in addition to the lierbemost station. When we contacted Invictus they said they had spread out their population so as not to keep all their eggs in one basket. I guess we haven't confirmed this in character, but just trying to wrap my head around what's going on on the planet, was one of those Exilium, and there's a third settlement we haven't had contact with or are there two Invictus satellites, and we didn't pick up exilium when we showed up?
A brief history of your time on Ceto may prove a helpful recap.
You encountered Ceto while following an eccentric thief named Hitch's trail of "breadcrumb boxes" - leftovers meant to taunt an organization called ECEA for sending an agent named Oz after him and his stolen battlesuit, Goliath. Evidence pointed to Hitch having marooned the man on the planet and stealing his ship. Your original goal re: Ceto was to rescue Oz or study his corpse/prison for clues.
When you first approached the Ceto, Dynamis reported the following:
quote:
Simulated signals stream outward from the planet in 4 distinct locations:
- 2 signals at opposite ends (east, west) of the same continent
- 1 signal on a much smaller continent north of that one
- 1 signal on an enormous landmass on the opposite side of the planet from the other 3
You put it to a vote and settled on the isolated signal on the far side of the planet first. You found an artificial structure nestled in a mountain range, broadcasting a non-Solese signal on repeat. This is the Leireblomst fortress, but you don't know that yet.
You decide not to land there after all and move toward the single signal on the smaller continent instead, since you were seeking a marooned human and the first location didn't fit the bill.
This second location turned out to be
Invictus, a downed capital ship bridging the gap between two large bluffs towering above a swathe of grassland dotted with fields, farms, and pastures.
At this point, I put the map in "Earth" terms to make visualizing the geography easier:
quote:
Signal Map Update
-Designation 'Beijing': Leireblomst fortress. Mountain observatory structure. Possible standby signal, broadcasting globally.
-Designation 'Greenland': Invictus colony. Bluff-based settlements overlooking grassland farms. Low-range, local signals.
-Designation 'Seattle': Unknown
-Designation 'Miami': Unknown
When you hailed
Invictus, you spoke with its governess, Charlotte Vessie. You asked about those other settlements, but she disavowed useful knowledge of them, saying they'd been out of contact for a long time. She is excited to learn you have a ship and asks Billy to try his luck at getting "the betrayer, Roger Page," to lower the planetary cannons so Invictus's people can leave Ceto. Billy is noncommittal and breaks comms.
After talking it over, you decide to return to the first location again, assuming it to be a good place to look for a control room for defense cannons. Hijinks ensue, and you meet Roger, who disputes Vessie's characterization of what happened.
Together, you explore the mountain facility, which turns out to be an abandoned alien outpost thoroughly boobytrapped by Hitch. You accidentally activate the outpost's robotic caretaker, Commandant, and make a deal with him to gain access to Ceto's airspace. You have yet to make good on your end of that bargain.
Roger knows who Oz is, and has already sprung him from his prison, so the party is free to explore other options. You sent the vast majority of your resources back to Earth to pick up your space station, so you can conceivably rescue the humans on the planet someday when they arrive.
But this will take many months, and to pass the time, you decide to humor your stated mission of diplomacy and arrange to speak to the other folks who live on Ceto. Roger tells you about the 2 other local sentient races, the Joss and the Talpid. The party decides to approach the Joss first, and thus you ended up in Hevetplata.
All that is to say, I don't believe you ever did circle back to those two particular points on the map. And, to clarify, Hevetplata and Exsilium are both on the continent with the two unexplored pings (though their locations too close to each other for them to both BE those pings), as is the Talpid capital (according to Roger).
