Facing a blue collar brawler is a tough fight for him.

Y u gotta bring socio-economic factors into this? Last I checked, this system didn't have classes ;-p

Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to Batallion (msg # 26):

I love every aspect of this conversation.

To address a few distinctly different points:

Overcoming Body Armor

Bobby has thick, disgusting body armor on purpose, because I wanted players to get a chance to deal with that particular challenge before they could actually die. Battalion was able to overwhelm him, but failing that he still had Combined Attacks available to him. Flux will probably want to rely on called shots for the areas of Bobby not covered by his armor, or (in the case of fully armored opponents) areas where the armor is less thick, if possible. A quick ping to the DM will let you know how hard it will be to mitigate a portion of the armor and how much of it you'll actually mitigate.

Other options involve non-battering solutions, such as dumping an impervious hero into wet cement, or throwing them out of an air lock, or roasting them over an open fire until they dehydrate and pass out. There a lot of ways to defeat someone besides battering them into submission, and that's something that'll come up from time to time.

Gravity Blasts vs Spikes/Slams

There are a lot of different power uses that are getting muddled about, and part of the problem is that Flux has been trying to do a lot of things all at once. Here are some things you can do with basic gravity manipulation:

1) Attempt to ensnare someone in your gravity field
2) Attempt to crush someone thus ensnared
3) Attempt to levitate someone thus ensnared

Your ability to use the basic manipulation power to hurl someone into a bulkhead or some such depends a lot on how much they weigh, but you'll still do power rank damage to them when they impact.

Worth noting: there's no reason you couldn't pick up, say, a bullet and throw it at someone for appropriate velocity impact damage.

Now, I envisioned your gravity slams and spikes as you decking someone with a gravity assist. This can take one of two forms:

1) Use your Gravity power rank instead of Fighting rank, simulating your ability to draw your foe into your punch. You'll do Strength damage.
2) Use your Gravity power rank instead of your Strength to bolster a punch you've landed normally.

If you want to use your Gravity power to do both of those things, that's probably something we need to create a specific FEAT for. It might read something like:

quote:
Gravity Brawler: use your Gravity Manipulation power rank in place of your Fighting power rank when resolving melee attacks. On white/green/yellow/red result, add +0/0/1/2CS to your Strength damage for that attack.

Happy to edit that if that's not what you have in mind.

What I'm seeing Flux do right now in the simulator is attempt to ensnare Bobby and, while snared, smash him into the bulkhead. You'll only be doing power rank damage that way, and as you're learning, it's a slow way to defeat an armored enemy.

It would, however, completely ice a normal human's 24 hp in one hit. So there's that.

Cool.

Bobby seems to be horribly ineffective in CC.  Is that just bad rolling?

Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to Flux (msg # 30):

Bobby's dice have some kind of OCD problem in which they want to find each and every possible white result. His stats give him about a 60% chance of success on any given maneuver... a fact that has made his performance more than a little depressing.

Of course, flip side: if he hits again before Flux aces him, that'll make Flux the only hero to lose in the danger room. Which would make sense since Flux is not a duelist in any way shape or form.

The funny thing is, from what I can tell NONE of us is a duelist.

Well, maybe Rusty Venture, but we'll have to see.

I'd go with Flux:

Flux: "Assume the position (of our team's meat shield)."

Big, Dumb Brute: "Huh?"

Flux: "This is not a negotiation."

Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to The Watcher (msg # 39):

Part of danger room was seeing if Flux was viable. He's a great team player, but we do kinda need a meatshield/brawler, and as currently written, he's pissing away 40 points of agility that I didn't role a single time in that fight (Given, I wasn't trying to dodge ranged blasts, but still).

I've got some tinkering to do..

To my knowledge, we do not have a melee brawler/meatshield, but I would say play what you want to and we'll make it work.

Given time to prepare, Batallion can be/make a meatshield... maybe not a great one though...

Also, so Karma is static (i.e. no reset between "adventures").

We start with R+I+P in Karma plus any leftover character build points, right?

Correct. Though you'll note that the conversation rate for turning karma into "character stuff" is a lot more generous during character generation, so I wouldn't leave too many points leftover.

Looking to customize your character any further? I recommend Quirks: http://www.classicmarvelforever.com/cms/quirks.html.

You need negative Quirks to balance out the positive ones unless you want to spend generation points, of course, but they're there if you want them.

In reply to Batallion (msg # 46):

I'll set your reputation during the initial setup, once you lock in your character so I can add you to the narrative. If you want gear, you need to speak up and tell me what you want. I'll look at your Resources and your character's backstory to decide what's reasonable.

You don't need to request things like "pants and a shirt". You do need to request things like "a doctor's badge with a white coat".

Sure. Though having a comlink makes you trackable. In fact, for you, dropping off the grid might be illegal.
