Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Tark:
"...Though it would explain the old married couple bit."

If Pyrus were drinking he'd have done a spit-take.  Instead he just busts out laughing, searching in vain for the words to properly commend Tark for that one.

"Wow, Tark!  I think you just out-quipped the professional jokester!"

He dries is eyes and turns an apologetic smile to Sarah. "Please pardon the intrusion, Madam.  I'm sure you understand the urgency.  Though if I may be so bold, I'm sure everyone in the team would love a chance to sample your lovely tea."

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Angel goes to sit back at the table Pyrus, Tark and Jamie are at. She turns her head to look at Sarah as she sips the tea. "What Tark said, Sarah. Nice tea, thank you."

Then looks at JB. "Come... I'm sure together, we can all find ways for Sarah to fit in."

Angel then looks at Pyrus and Tark with a knowing smile as if to say thank you without having to open her mouth.

Angel knows something else she can do to help lighten the mood... she pulls a lyre out of her backpack and idly plucks at it.

In reply to Angel Bard (msg # 390):

"As you wish, Angel," Johnny says with an ever-eager smile, then turns to Sarah and does a bow.  "Care to join us, milady?"

As Angel pulls out her lyre, Johnny stands by, wondering if and how she'd want him to join in with her.

Meanwhile, Jamie just sits back at the bar watching the whole thing with a bemused smile and a nod at Sarah.

Following them back to the table Sarah had been sure they were about
to get back up and leave from the sound of things but instead Angel just sat
down at the table and started to play. She at least appreciated the was
done (for now) picking at the rabbit inside her.

"Oh thank you so much. I try to get  what complements the mood and atmosphere for Lady Jamie."
sarah says beaming at Angel's comment.

"Pyrus, please. It's not a quip if you're serious." Well, actually it might still count Tark.

At Sarah's comments, he asks "Well what teas do you prefer personally, then?"

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Pyrus' smile probably looks at least as bemused as Jamie's.

"I stand corrected," he answers Tark.

Figuring the whole topic of being worn like clothing to be a sensitive one, Pyrus refrains from making any puns about fitting in, but the thought most certainly crosses his mind.  Hopefully the jokester will be kind enough to refrain as well.

"Sarah, may I ask how comfortable you are in joining an adventure to investigate potentially dangerous Drow?"

He assumes it's a foregone conclusion that everyone else present is perfectly fine with taking the plot hook.  Meiou included.  But that doesn't mean he won't double-check with the others in due time.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Angel glances at Tark, "Aww... there is no need to rain on Pyrus' parade. Especially when you were the source of his happiness. That's like discouraging compliments. But I can understand wanting people to know the difference between joking and seriousness..."

Angel then asks Pyrus and the group, "So what about these drow you mentioned? Do we know why they are here or what they are doing? And have any of you had experience with drow?"

She allows Johnny to sit next to her if he likes, but since a jam session would require dropping the important topic, she doesn't bring it up. Angel is playing softly so as to just have music in the background.

In reply to Angel Bard (msg # 395):

Johnny does so, ever so eager to please Angel.  But then his ears picked up the topic at hand and he switched to a more serious topic.  "I've heard rumors around here of a certain Black Spider who is rumored to be a drow.  Are you talking about him?  Or her?  Or whatever?  All I know is the name."

She had been standing there quietly after her previous reply with her hands
together where her lap would be. Hearing Tark she looks to him
"Oh I enjoy most but my favorites are the nut based teas miss sassy brews. Reminds me so much of home. "
Then hearing pyrus she replies "Oh uhm I dont think i know what a drow is but I can handle myself in a fight with the training miss jamie has been giving me."

"Sorry, clarifying has often been how I stay out of bar fights." Or at least, make any resulting bills for property damage clearly the other guy's problem.

"Well Sarah, we should make sure to have plenty of your favorite tea before we leave town to see if these are the moaning misunderstood drow or the sneaky jerks drow."

Tark's limited experience with the Drow is mostly filling out stereotype checkboxes. There was that one fellow lumberjack of a Drow though, who probably enjoyed chopping down trees a little too much.

Pyrus explains for Sarah, "The drow, or 'dark elves' as they are sometimes referred to, are a generally evil, dark-skinned, and white-haired subrace of elves.  They tend to specialize in poisons."

He spreads out the note from his minions before the team for them to re-read.

"Only a guess, but the reason I figure them to surface here is to kidnap people and make them blood sacrifices to their spider goddess."

Angel reads the letter, allowing JB to read it along with her.

Angel says, "A good a guess as any, Pyrus. But still just a guess. We're going to have to go and observe what your friends have reported and see if we can capture these drow."

Angel looks over at Sarah. "Oh? So you use magic like Jamie? What is it you can do?"

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

In reply to Angel Bard (msg # 400):

For the record, this is what the letter reads, since it's from a previous page:

quote:
To our great and powerful Pyrus!
We wanted to give you a formal thank you
for gracing us with your presence. And to
inform you that we have been doing much
better for ourselves ever since beholding
you! Our resolve is the highest it has
been in our unworthy lives! But, if it
pleases the great and powerful Pyrus, we
bring an odd thing to your attention.

We have been seeing a number of very
strange elves with skin as black as the
night sky. We see them lurk about this
area at night and then they head to a
hatch disguised as a patch of grass
before daylight. We do not yet know why
they are here, but it was odd enough
that we decided to inform you of it.

Your servants,
Kruthkrix Muklk Churtrk Kevin

JB looked over Angel's shoulder, placing a tender gloved hand on her shoulder, as he read the letter.  "Strange acting fey, check.  Dark skin, check.  Work underground, check. Yep, them's drow all right."  He looks up to Pyrus.  "You really must've impressed this group to have these guys fawn over ya, Pyrus."

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Sarah shook her head at all the descriptions.
"No I definetly have not met a drow before. I would remember something like that. You say some are friendly?"
She looked over at Angel nodding"Oh! Yes miss. I think miss Jamie prefers calling it witchcraft but it is from my understanding like a warlock if that helps."

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

"So how long until Jamie teaches Meiou half as much as she has taught you, Sarah?  I expect he would be much safer trying to sneak up on Drow that way."

Tark would have expected Meiou to at LEAST know Mage hand by now.  You know, like every self taught rogue with an interest in the mystic arts does.

Back to Pyrus and Johnny, he comments "They were impressed by his incredible manners, Johnny.  Though yes, sacrificing people is bad even without the extra detail of 'giant spider jerk'"

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Pyrus seems lost in thought for a bit.  He shakes it off and nods to Angel.

"Ah.  Yes.  My thoughts exactly, Angel.

"I have only heard legends of non-evil Drow, Sarah.  Never seen any evidence that such a thing exists.

"Thank you for the compliment, Tark.  And on that note, everyone please excuse any rude behavior from my kobold allies.  They assume that because I'm a dragon that I'm the boss of everyone around me, so they may take it upon themselves to insist that I be treated with the greatest of deference.  You can leave it to me to correct them should that happen."

Angel nods then looks at JB. "Kobolds. Dragon. I guess that's enough to explain the fawning."

She then smiles at Sarah. "Some day, I'll look into magic. But for now, I prefer using bows and crossbows..."

FAST FORWARDING!

The group is easily able to get back to the kobold lair where Pyrus' kobolds are. They are apparently ready for Pyrus with gifts of gold and bowing towards him as he approaches.

Angel gives a bemused smile upon seeing the kobolds groveling.

Sarah just studied the scene with quiet interest. She had never seen anything
happen like this before and wasn't sure she would see it again but either way
it would make a fun story to tell someone later.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Well Tark actually likes Pyrus as a person, rather than their status as a species lore always gives preferential treatment.  So treating him with real respect won't be very hard.

"Have any of you gone missing or been harmed?  Pyrus has taken you under his wing"  hah.  "So it is in my interest to make sure you remain safely there."

Pyrus blushes from the adulation and smiles endearingly at his worshipers.  He accepts the gifts with plenty of "Well done!" and "I'm impressed!" affirmation for them.

"I trust your foot is healing up?  Considering how helpful you've been, perhaps one of my friends would be willing to use some curative magic on you to speed up the healing."

He turns a very bright smile for Tark volunteering to look out for the little guys.  "From what I've seen, you have proven you've every bit the heroic heart as May.  Thank you."

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Angel nods to JB with a smirk. "Kinda reminds me of how you have been treating me, Johnny..."

The kobolds, of course, eat up Pyrus's appreciation like children looking for affirmation.

Angel raises an eyebrow. She didn't realize anyone in the team had curative magic. (Mind blown! We don't have a designated healer in this team!)

Muklk answers Tark, "None of us have allowed the dark ones to spot us! We have all remained unharmed by the strangers! ...what's with the squirrel, mouse and rabbit?"

The kobold Pyrus addressed (we'll just say it was Kruthkrix) nods and says, "Yes, yes! If it please your greatness, I would be swift as a squirrel if my foot were restored!"

Muklk asks, "...who's May?"

Churtrk says, "Only the most famous half-dragon kobold in the world!"

Kevin says, "Wasn't her mom a gold dragon?"

Muklk asks, "But what kind of name is May for a kobold, dragon, or combo?"

Churtrk answers in a panicked tone, "Uhh... the kind... uh... I dunno!" he looks horrified that he doesn't know this factoid.

Johnny can't help but blush and smile at that, giving Angel a twinkle in his eye.

When Mulkik said "...what's with the mouse and rabbit?" he feigned ignorance.  He placed his hand on his chest and said "Mwa?"

But then he realized at about the same moment as her:  "Guys, do we have a Cleric or somethin'? I don't think we have a healer on the team!"

Tark isn't heroic, he just has standards. He hasn't worked out yet how that is often more desirable.

"Thank you, Pyrus. I'm sure we have at least one spare healing potion in the collection of bags among us."

He adds to Mukluk  "The fuzzy ones are here to help" presumably.
