Conan out in front in the wilderness and Bobble anywhere else is fine by me.   Just a suggestion to Makoto regarding her infusions, I would gladly take an enlarged person on hand for combat but a expeditious retreat infusion all the time for when I'm scouting out in front of the party.   Is the Protective Luck Hex can that be made into an infusion, if so, I'll take one for scouting purposes.   Yin can ride Mako, my horse, if she wants.   Since the wagon is on the road with everything else in the party parse, Conan will be on the left flank and front and Conover will be on the right flank and front.

Bobble, Conan and Yin have been invested with a Protective Luck hex set to activate when attacked. Infusions; Conan = Enlarge Person; Bobble =  Expeditious Retreat and Yin = ???


The road narrows here, leading over a well-worn stone bridge that crosses a stream. Trees dot the landscape to both sides of the bridge, and the rushing of water and the croaking of frogs give the scene an air of tranquility.  As you approach the bridge you notice a large sized bird(male) standing near the road in front of a small rise and near it another large bird(female) sitting on a nest on top of the small rise.  Makoto gasps and says "Be careful, no sudden moves, Axe Beaks are...", and as Makoto is giving her warning the bird charges at Conan suddenly and without warning, "...nesting and likely very aggressive...very, very aggressive."  She sighs sets the wagon brake and cast mage armor.  The Axe Beak closes the distance quickly and attacks Conan, sweeping his legs out from under him (free trip, the protctive luck activate but the axe beak hits anyway- barely) and doing 6 dam.  The female Axe Beak on the nest carefully gets up and and moves toward her mate, squawking loudly.

- No surprise round but Makoto was the only one to go before the Axe Beaks.
- Conan is currently prone.
- Bobble is riding his riding dog(golden retriever).
- Bobbles 2 guard dogs are on the cart with Makoto and Yin
- Conan's warhorse is tied up with the mule and goat

Rebel should also be with Bobble. Bobble will double move after dropping off of Tucker. He will call Rebel into a flanking position across from him.  Once they are both in position Bobble will attack once and Rebel will go for a bite.

However, best laid plans and all that... Bobble falls while trying to dismount off of his
Riding dog and ends up not getting to an attack position. Rebel will stop next to Bobble to protect him until he is able to get up and move.

Round 1
  Bobble urges his dog forward and around the tall bird's 10' reach.  As Tucker reaches the far side of the bird Bobble acrobatically dismounts in front of the dog and draws out his daggers.  Rebel charges in from the other side acrobatically avoiding the birds claws and pounces, the bite does 8 but the claws miss (rolled 1 and 2).  Conan reaches out and touches the birds claw and the bird starts shaking it's head, then Conan stand up.  Conover charges in and misses.  Yin says something in Celestial and then stares at Conan for a moment and he feels a soothing feeling come over him. The dogs bark from the cart while the goat, mule and carthorse show signs of agitation.  The warhorse seems to be anxious as well.

Round 2
  Makoto will also get out of the cart and then observe the battle carefully, ready to act.  AxeBeakM keeps shanking it head, dazed.  AxeBeakF moves forward to attack Bobble, and when it gets to the right spot Makoto drops a Glitter dust on the 2 birds.  The male manages to avoid getting dust in his eyes, but the female is blinded from the dust and she misses Bobble (activating Protective Luck).  At the end of his turn the male regains his wits and can act again.

Your turn.
- Bobble cannot attack.  You do not normally ride with daggers out.  So you ride over with Tucker (takes no actions to do this), take a move action to dismount (I rolled for fast dismount and you failed) and a move action to draw your daggers.  Yes, drawing a weapon can be combined with a move, but dismount not a move action it can be combined with.  See https://aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?...&Category=Combat Actions in Combat table subscript 3.

"Bobble hold off killing this one in case she has babies, Let me try to calm her down and scare her off back to her nest.   It's either that, killing her and taking her young to a druid to watch over or she could do it."   Says Conan holding up his hands before he even moves a muscle.    Miss Makoto or dear Sister Yin, do you have anything that could help me calm this bird down so that its young can have a parent in the wild as verse to being raised in civilization."   He say loud enough for those back at the wagon can hear.


OOC: 13:56, Today: Conan rolled 23 using 1d20+5.  Wild Empathy roll.
(This is the base roll of WILD EMPATHY, that I rolled using Diplomacy, Ranger Level, and -1 CHARISMA Modifier.   This is without any minuses for penalties or bonuses from what either Makoto or Yin can help me with.)

Round 2
  Bobble and Rebel double team the male bird and it drops to the ground, bleeding.  Conan starts trying to calm the female bird down.  At the start of Yin's turn, Conan heals 5 dam while Yin takes 5 dam.  Yin does not respond to Conan's request (she can't understand what he is saying), she casts a mage armor spell before moving 5' and grabbing the reins of the nervous carthorse.  Since Conan is ignoring his dog, Conover attacks the downed male, killing it. The dogs bark from the cart while the goat, mule and carthorse show signs of agitation.  The warhorse seems to be anxious as well.

Round 3
  Makoto says, "I can probably give you a few rounds to calm it" as she moves forward and casts a spell, the female birds shadow looks odd for a moment but then goes back to normal (the bird made it's saving throw).  AxeBeakF continues to attack Bobble (Bite,claw,claw), and she misses Bobble.  At the end of her turn the female regains her sight.  Conan realizes, the dead male, barking dogs, so many targets are too much to overcome with a wild empathy check.  Wild Empathy/Diplomacy is not the most effective tool in the middle of combat.  Suddenly from out of nowhere, a swarm of bats appears around Conan and Makoto, doing 2 dam and the wounds are bleeding 1 dam a round.  Both Makoto and Conan avoid being distracted (for dc 11).

Your turn.
- The birds are rolling really good on saving throws.
- Conan, I reread your your Dazing Touch power, I suggest you reread it before using it again.
- The bat swarm is immune to weapon damage.

Bobble and Rebel will move to attack the female bird. Bobble only needs to move 5’ but Rebel has to move a bit more so he will make a pounce attack from a flanking position.

Conan will stride forward and swing on the female Axebeak after taking out his sword and moving 10' out of the batswarm.   All the while saying to Makoto, "Look for the magic user, who summoned the bats.   As Conan strides forward.   Conover will nip at the bats before leaping forward to help take down the Axebeak.

  Bobble and Rebel move forward and double team the female bird, Rebel moves into flanking position and despite his great acrobatics skill, he gets hit by the bird for 12 dam and it takes him a full move to get into position using acrobatics.  Bobble manages to hit once for 9 dam.  Conan and Conover move forward next and together manage to bring the beast down.  Yin takes Conan's 4 dam, but then waits for Makoto to move, saying something to the witch in celestial.  The dogs bark from the cart while the goat, mule and carthorse show signs of agitation.  The warhorse seems to be anxious as well.

Round 4
  Makoto moves away from the bats managing not to scream and says, "I don't see or hear anything" as she scans the nearby brush and trees, "but it's probably close that spell doesn't have much range."  She says something in Celestial to Yin.  Yin casts burning hands on the swarm, the flames engulf the swarm and it vanishes.  Suddenly Makoto says, "there a bird is casting a spell" as she points to the nearby trees.

Since this is all based on what Bobble wants Rebel to do, and because the distance is a little far for an effective charge (plus not knowing how high up the bird is), I will put away my sword, take out my bow and use one of those special magical beast bane arrows that we have, when necessary.    Conan will send Conover in to bear bait the bird from the tree if at all possible so that he can use that special arrow against this creature.

Conan takes out his bow and looks at the tree, but sees no bird.  The tree is 30' tall and Makoto was pointing towards the middle, so this spellcasting bird is probably 20' or so high.  As Conover starts moving to the tree, he suddenly starts running strange as he gets past the dead male bird/off the bridge, as if he is running on glass.  He slows down and is limping along at half speed after taking 5 damage.  He makes it to the tree and starts barking, but is obviously in pain.

Conan; are you going to drop your mace or take an action to put it away?

Bobble sees what happened to Conover and suspects a spell on the ground. He will cross over the bridge to the far side of the river, and will put his daggers away as he moves.  He will double move to get as close to the tree as possible from the far side of the river. Rebel will stick with him. He will tell Tucker to stay where he is.

I am going to drop the mace.    Since Conover is hurting, Conan will tell him to quit barking and lay down close by, about 5' away from the tree but still under the canopy of it though.

Round 5
  Makoto bleeds as she moves forward to get a better look at the tree, drawing out her bolas.  She mutters "That spell effect sounds familiar..."(She missed her roll by 1).  She seems ready to throw her weapon if the chance presents itself.  Yin starts moving forward and encounters the same "walking on glass" ground as Conover did.  She suffers 6 dam but manages to avoid the worst of it with her high dex and is not moving at half speed (made her ref save to avoid moving at 1/2 speed).  She channels positive energy and heals herself, Makoto and Conover 9 dam.  Conover starts moving at full speed again and Makoto stops bleeding.  From out of a clear sky Yin is struck by a bolt of lightning and takes 10 dam.  The carthorse flinches from the nearness of the lightning bolt, but doesn't move.

- Sheathing a weapon may NOT be combined with a move like drawing a weapon can.
- the squares doing dam allow a ref save(dc 17) to avoid "move at half speed"

Bobble will stop where he is on the bridge after spotting the bird. He will shoot at it once after readying his bow. He will also call Rebel back over time him.

Conan will put his bow in one hand and his mace in the other, since the bird that both Bobble and Makoto can see is invisible to him at least, or it could be that Conan is visually challenged.    Conan will move along his side of the river's edge towards the tree, following the curve of the bank on the right side he'll go around the first tree and come at the main tree.

  Bobble stops and shoots, but is pretty sure he didn't hit.    Rebel moves over near Bobble and looks around.  Conan picks up his magic mace, moves toward the combat going along the river bank.  As soon as he passed tucker, the grass felt like it was glass, sharp and spikey even though it looked normal.  Conan takes 2 dam on his legs but manages to avoid having to limp (made his save, so he can still move at full speed).  As Conan moves forward the grass goes back to normal.  Conover remains where he is, looking at the tree silently.  The dogs bark from the cart while the goat, mule and carthorse show signs of agitation.  The warhorse seems to be anxious as well.  Tucker stays were he is looking around excitedly.

Round 6
  Makoto says something to Yin in Celestial before moving under the tree.  Yin also moves forward under the tree and looks up.  Neither of them see anything.  Yin casts clw, healing 6 dam.  Makoto pulls out a wand.  From 25' up the tree you hear a bird making very strange noises (casting a spell).  Makoto yells out, "He enspelled more Spike Growth areas, I think it's a druid in eagle form and it can see through the leaves, watch out."  After casting, the bird (a small sized brown eagle or hawk) hops around the tree trunk using the branches as cover/concealment for stealth.  Both Makoto and Yin feel the ground beneath their feet turn spikey, though as long as you don't move you don't take damage.  Conover shifts uncomfortably, he too is probably under the effects of the spike growth.

Chp 4 Rosehaven

Bobble will move 20’ closer along the bridge after he shoots at the bird. He will quietly ask Rebel to run in a loop behind the tree with the bird in it and see if he can climb the tree.
