Chp 2 Laketown and the Wrathwarped Halls.

Chp 2 Laketown

  You arrive in Laketown, a town on a large lake near the mountains that form the barrier between your nation (Golden Realm) and Molthue.  Asking around you learn that Diridon the Dashing has left, and the consensus is that only Julian, a cleric of Soralyon (Good demigod of Guardians, magic and monuments), might know where he went.  However, Julian left a few days ago to investigate a strange incident of flames in the hills reported by some fishermen.  He probably went to a small unnamed fishing village. (ooc:DIPLOMACY OR KNOWLEDGE LOCAL) The people from that village decend from a mostly a nomadic and warrior people who lived in the area long before other human groups. Many of them feel that long hair is a dangerous liability in battle and thus shave their heads. They also have tattoos over much of their bodies.  They are distrustful of outsiders, though it appears Julian was acquainted with them.
OOC: Please list anything you want to buy here as the small unnamed fishing village has a limited marketplace.
  The sound of crashing waves and birds mixes with the smell and cool spray of water at the entrance of a wide, low lake cave. A bustling community is hard at work in the dim morning light: tall, tattooed men and women clean and fillet fish, while others toss crustaceans into pots; a group of older children sit in a circle on the sand near the water’s edge and repair nets and harpoons; nearby, several women are busily patching holes in a small boat.  You convince the locals that you are looking for Juian.
   “This is not a sight very many outsiders ever see, outsiders,” says a tall, muscular woman. Her head is shaved and tattoos line her shoulders, arms, and neck. “But we are pleased you have come. Kel-grish! Welcome! Let us walk.  I am Tide Watcher, the jothka of this tribe,” she says, as she leads the way onto a small path heading up the hill above the cave. “As you probably know, We do not often call upon outsiders for help. But this is a special circumstance.” She stops atop the hill and takes a deep breath of the wind blowing off the water before turning to the hills and mountains to the north. “Two weeks ago I stood watch on this spot, minding both the water and the land. Suddenly a plume of flame rose into the air in the hills there.” She points slightly northwest. “I took a group of warriors to investigate. When traveling down familiar caverns, we soon found a place where the floor had recently collapsed into another series of tunnels that had smooth, worked walls. Then we found the stone door. It flickered with flame and was deeply carved with the runes we know to be the language of the Ancients.” She pauses, a sour look on her face. “It is forbidden to explore places marked with these runes, so I thought it best to simply try to collapse the cave entrance and be done. But then I saw the door was open. Something had either gotten in or gone out. I sent word to our friend Julian because he has made fair dealings with the us.  A few days ago, Julian arrived and claimed he could seal the door. He worships a good god of monuments, he said, and was confident he could succeed. I have not seen him since, however, so I do not know what has happened.” Tide Watcher turns to the group. “Outsiders, I want you to learn the nature of this place beyond the door and determine if it is a threat to my tribe. If it is within your ability to eliminate it, do so. If not, we will discuss closing off the cave entrance permanently. Do you have any questions?

KNOWLEDGE (ARCANA) OR KNOWLEDGE (HISTORY) The Ancients was an empire that ended some 10,000 years ago in this area. The seven-pointed star, called the Sihedron, is a commonly seen motif in Ancients art. There were seven realms in the Ancients empire, each controlled by a powerful practitioner of magic called a runelord. Each treated his or her own realm as a kingdom onto itself. This area was likely in the kingdom known as Bakrakhan, domain of wrath, ruled by Runelord Alaznist.  Each Runelord was associated with a sin and tied to a school of magic: envy to abjuration, gluttony to necromancy, greed to transmutation, lust to enchantment, pride to illusion, sloth to conjuration, and wrath to evocation. The Ancients empire came to an end in the great cataclysm known as Earthfall, but it is suspected the Runelords all had preparations in place that would allow them to survive, perhaps even until the present day.

Bobble also has 50' of silk rope. He will buy some more chalk to mark walls as they go.

OK, we need to explore this cave system. I don't know about the fire, or how we are going to get past it. It might be an illusion, I will check when we get to it. We need chalk too. I have a week of rations, and you need the same. Who knows how long we may be down there. I will travel in front, so I can scout for traps. Conan, how about you bring up the rear? I'm ready to go.

Conan too has chalk but will buy more, with the twenty additional arrows, I now have forty normal arrows half of which are on Dorsey.   He won't carry his flail into the caves with him.   He will purchase another week's worth of trail rations, which should give Conan nine days worth.    Then he will be ready to go as well.

Where is Conan leaving his donkey, fishing village or camp by the cave?


  After you have bought chalk and food, Tide Watcher simply starts to walk away, saying “It is time we headed to the ruins.” After a half-mile hike north guided by Tide Watcher, you arrive at a makeshift camp outside a cave entrance guarded by several warriors. The scouts here have not been inside recently, nor have they seen the priest since he entered. They have been ordered to remain outside to keep any enemies from emerging.
  This winding, complex system of caves forms a network of connected passages throughout the region. Tide Watcher knows the path to follow to find the Ancients door and provides you with a map leading there. Conan (DC 14 Survival check) can follow a newer set of tracks, he assumes is the priest’s (Julian), from the cave entrance to the Ancients door. The caves are unlit except, and are narrow, winding, and generally cramped. Passages are typically no wider than 5 feet, and ceilings range between 3 and 8 feet.
   After several hundred feet of twisting, turning, and often cramped passageways, the caverns here begin to widen somewhat. Broken arrows and short, makeshift swords litter the ground, and a rotting corpse lies slumped in a corner. Blood, now dried, is splattered on many of the rocks nearby. The passage continues to the east.  Conan uncovers tracks of several dozen goblins in this part of the tunnels, as well as the signs of a battle. He determines that there were two groups of goblins, and the larger group fled back to the west while the rest continued east. The corpse is a slain goblin from the and he died roughly 2 weeks ago to a combination of stab wounds and burns.  The same time as Tide Watcher saw the plume of flames.
   Small goblin tribes are a problem in the hills.  They tend to be dangerous and will kill anyone, especially other goblins.  You conclude this was probably a fight between 2 goblin tribes.
   About 100 feet beyond the battle site, you easily locate the place where a boulder broke through into the tunnels below. The collapse formed a ramp that is easy to navigate.  The passageway twists sharply to the left after another 100 feet, opening into a wider room.
   Dim, flickering light illuminates a natural chamber roughly 30 feet by 10 feet. Stalactites cling to the ceiling and a few stalagmites rise from the floor. The air is damp and clammy. At the eastern end of the room stands a 10-foot-wide double door set into the wall. Flames flicker about the columns and lintel, casting the spiky, spidery runes covering the surfaces into sharp relief. The doors are partially open.  There is a human male slumped against 1 wall near the door, eyes closed.  He wears a breastplate with an obvious holy symbol (Soralyon) around his neck, next to him is a staff and unloaded light crossbow.  Oddly, the staff seems to be leaning on air.  He does not seem to hear your arrival.

Conan will follow the new trail until it leads to the Human male and the slightly ajar double doors.   "Julian, I presume?" exclaims Conan upon seeing the clearly exhausted holy man.   Conan's no cleric but he can tell whether the man is close to death or not.


OOC: Conan will leave Dorsey at the camp.    06:29, Today: Conan rolled 20 using 1d20+6. tracking/ survival check (straight roll, no mods added.)
06:42, Today: Conan rolled 21 using 1d20+5. Heal check, clearly the man is exhausted but is he wounded enough to death. (Conan can possible do some non magical healing or make his passing at least a little more comfortable)

The man has no visible wounds and appears to be breathing.  If he is dying it is from some esoteric/magical/poison cause, but you are fairly sure he isn't dying.  He certainly looks like your description of Julian.

Bobble quietly moves forward and looks around, you notice his breathing is that of a lightly napping person.  Just about the time you come to the conclusion that there are nothing there (that you can detect), the staff falls to the ground and the man wakes up.  His eyes open and he is staring straight at Bobble, eyes confused with sleep.  What does Bobble do?  What is Conans reaction to the dropping staff?

Conan will start slightly having focused entirely on the man not realizing that he was asleep.   Conan will reiterate, "Julian, I  presume?   We were partly sent here to look for you my good man."   Conan will continue feeling confidently that the man isn't going to die within the next few minutes let alone seconds.   He and Conover will move closer to the man studying both the man and the doors.   (Me the doors and surrounding area and the dog the man.)

  The man instinctively grabs for his staff while scrambling to stand.  But as Conan, Bobble and Makoto don't act aggressively he calms down and looks around.  Gripping his staff tightly he asks, "Who are you, what are you doing here and how do you know my name?"  He seems exhausted and may not be thinking clearly.

"The woman, Tide Watcher, gave us your name and sent us after you basically, however, technically we were to find out about some strange flashes of fire and to inspect the ruins.    We can see that the fires came from you protecting yourself from Goblins as well as themselves letting off various fires in the night sky."   Conan says in answer to the weary mans' question.  "Bobble the doors are all yours I was just admiring the various motifs of the doors."   Conan states to Bobble when he comments on when Conan is looking at the doors and he calls Conover over from Julian to stay by him.

   It's obvious the priest Julian is exhausted, so he excepts your explanation without question.  He explains he is expending all his spells to power a ritual to seal away the magical energies seeping from the ruins beyond, but to no avail. He can successfully raise a ward at the entrance (effectively a small wall of force), but he must renew it every 10 minutes or so by chanting the required verse. He has mostly been awake for too long now and is hungry, thirsty and exhausted. Julian is aware that the long-pent-up sin magic in, what he calls, the Wrathwarped Halls prevents his ritual from taking hold, and that only after the focus of that magic has been destroyed will he be able to fully seal it.
   After he renews the barrier you have a chat while he eats and drinks some food someone provides.
- The door says in the Ancients language “Beyond here lies only pain for the enemies of Bakrakhan.”
- What can you tell us about these ruins? “I’m almost certain they were part of the realm called Bakrakhan, ruled by Alaznist, Runelord of Wrath.
- Why haven’t you gone for help? “My friends made it clear they weren’t coming in, but I knew that if I left, the ward I managed to raise would fail. The ward contains the magic that is trying to seep out from the complex within. I prayed others would arrive to help.
- What do you know of the Ancients? “It was a powerful, sinful empire that ended 10,000 years ago. Its rulers wielded incredible magic, and the hazards they left behind often persist to the present. I see it as my duty to serve Soralyon and protect the modern world from these ancient dangers.
- What kind of dangers should we expect? “Given that this is likely a stronghold of Bakrakhan, I’d expect to see evocation magic used against you. Bakrahkan was also known for using fleshwarping magic to make more powerful soldiers.
- What do you need us to do? “Head beyond the door and eliminate whatever focus of magical energies you can find: it might be a creature or an object. Once you’ve done that, I should be able to finish a permanent ward.

  Makoto is confident she can find the focus.

Bobble will lead the way 10’ in front of the others in both narrow and wider passages. He will move at a walking pace for him so 20’. Unless he is concerned about possible traps when he will move at 10’. He will be on alert for traps, as well as illusions. You can Take 10 for most movement but is there is something suspicious he will have you roll.

   The air supply seems to be magically fresh for this far underground, though there is a hint of old smoke in the air. There doesn't appear to be any fresh smoke right now, but someone somewhere has been playing with fire.  The entire facility is bathed in normal light, drawing its illumination from continual flame spells cast upon sconces spaced every 15 feet along the walls. The color of the light changes from yellow to orange and back again every 12 hours, charting the passage of time. Unless otherwise noted, all doors are made of stone, and the ceilings are 8 feet tall in passageways and 15 feet tall in rooms.
   The wider passageway narrows here and continues to the east. Dim flickering flames dance around the walls, illuminating unadorned polished stone. A door is at the eastern end of the hall.  20' from the door Bobble detects a tripwire  set up across the passage.  While trying to disable the trap, Bobble accidentally triggers it, causing a large flat object to come falling from the ceiling.  Bobble dodges as best he can and manages to avoid some spikes, but still takes 4 damage.
   The object is sharp metal spikes driven into a salvaged tabletop with books speared upon the spikes so that their pages remain open and visible. It was mounted on a makeshift hinge in such a way that it would swing down and smash anyone entering the chokepoint if they triggered the tripwire.  A metal plate falls onto the floor.

   The door at the end of the hallway has no traps or locks you can detect and opens easily.  Makoto explains that many places like this have powerful preservative magics.  A hallway runs north and south here, its walls carved with images of fire and destruction. Humanoids from many races peer out from the flames in the upper portions of the carvings, their faces alight with excruciating pain. The lower two feet of the carvings show other figures on hands and knees, their faces toward the north, the brutal fires just above their backs. Near the center of the hallway on a low plinth stands the statue of a cruel-faced woman wielding a ranseur in her right hand. Her left hand gestures to the south, giving the impression it is the source of the carved flames. Someone has used charcoal to draw a large, toothy goblin grin on the statues face.  A large bronze plaque is affixed to the southern wall of the passage, covered in spiky, spidery runes.


   Makoto will pull out a book and start to decipher the runes.  What are the rest of you doing?

Conan will follow Bobble's lead.    Conan will admire the body of the statue but will suggest to Bobble that the chalk marking should be subdue so only we know it has been tampered with.   Conan will continue to both check and guard the rear of the three person party.

   Makoto slowly translates the runes as “Humble yourself and show the respect Runelord Alaznist is due”, or something like that.  And while Bobble doesn't find any traps, something about this seems...off.
OOC:No, taking 20 to search for traps won't solve this.  What now?
Ten Fun Facts About Goblins
1: Horse Hate: Goblins excel at riding animals, but they don’t
quite get horses. In fact, their hatred of all things horse is
matched only by their fear of horses, who tend to step on
goblins who get too close.
2: Dog Hate: Although goblins raise horrible rat-faced creatures
called (creatively enough) goblin dogs to use as mounts
(and ride wolves or worgs if they can get them—goblins are
quick to explain that wolves are NOT dogs), their hatred of
plain old dogs nearly matches their hatred of horses. The
feeling is mutual. If your dog’s barking at the woodpile for
no reason, chances are he smells a frightened goblin hiding
in there somewhere.
3: Goblins Raid Junkyards: Garbage pits, gutters, sewers… anywhere
there’s garbage, you can bet goblins are nearby. Goblins
are weirdly adept at crafting weapons and armor from refuse,
and are fond of killing people with what they throw away.
4: Goblins Love to Sing: Unfortunately, as catchy as their lyrics
can be, goblin songs tend to be a bit too creepy and disturbing
to catch on in polite society.
5: They’re Sneaky: An excited or angry goblin is a noisy, chattering,
toothy menace, but even then, he can drop into an
unsettling silence in a heartbeat. This, matched with their
diminutive size, makes them unnervingly adept at hiding in
places you’d never expect: stacks of firewood, rain barrels,
under logs, under chicken coops, in ovens…
6: They’re A Little Crazy: The fact that goblins
think of things like ovens as good hiding places
reveals much about their inability to think plans
through to the most likely outcome. That, and
they tend to be easily distracted, particularly
by shiny things and animals smaller than them
that might make good eating.
7: They’re Voracious: Given enough supplies, a goblin generally
takes nearly a dozen meals a day. Most goblin tribes
don’t have enough supplies to accommodate such ravenous
appetites, which is why the little menaces are so prone to
going on raids.
8: They Like Fire: Burning things is one of the great goblin pastimes,
although they’re generally pretty careful about lighting
fires in their own lairs, especially since goblins tend to live in
large tangled thistle patches and sleep in beds of dried leaves
and grass. But give a goblin a torch and someone else’s home
and you’ve got trouble.
9: They Get Stuck Easily: Goblins have wiry frames but wide
heads. They live in cramped warrens. Sometimes too cramped.
10: Goblins Believe Writing Steals Your Soul: The walls of
goblin lairs and the ruins of towns goblins have raided are littered
with pictures of their exploits. They never use writing,
though. That’s not lucky. Writing steals words out of your
head. You can’t get them back.

Conan will give the affirmative to Bobble's suggestion of being on hands and knees to cross the threshold with the flames but will say to the Gnome, "Maybe you should bow yourself down as well to show some respect."   (cue Ms. Franklin's R E S P E C T .)   Conan continues, "He or she was a leader of a nation for heavens sake so show some respect, will you Bobble," he says exasperatively to the Gnome, clearly thinking that the man is going to do something to get them all killed.   This after the trap that he sprung while trying to defuse it.

   Makoto will follow Conan's lead and crawl around the statue.  So Conan and Makoto get down and start crawling forward as Bobble, who thinks he is short enough, walks forward.  As Bobble passes the statue, a roaring sheet of flame appears at the ceiling and comes rushing towards the floor.  The group instinctively ducks low (Bobble made a ref save)as the impressive fire stops 2' from the floor before vanishing.  You could feel the heat and were warned about evocation magic, so it probably wasn't an illusion.  The double doors at the end of the room are stone, there are no locks or apparent traps.  Like the first door, this door also opens easily.  Before opening the doors Makoto will invest some of her magic on you.
OOC: The 1st time Conan and Bobble are attacked this activates;
Protective Luck; Whenever that creature is targeted by an effect that requires an attack
                 roll, the attacker must roll twice and take the worse result.

   This large room’s walls are decorated with carvings extolling the virtues of wrath: scenes abound of warriors crushing their opponents with a combination of martial and magical skill. Above all these warriors stands the magnificent figure of a striking woman clad in armor and wielding a ranseur. Her face is contorted in a mixture of rage and elation, and she stands atop a veritable mountain of corpses. In sharp contrast to the intricate beauty of the carvings, the contents of the room are in shambles. Broken tables and chairs litter the floor, once-magnificent banners are torn and strewn about, and several small fires smolder throughout the room giving the room a perpetual haze. Anything that can be burned is blackened with soot, and anything breakable has been shattered into pieces. The pungent smell of an animal warren permeates the entire room.  The haze is not thick enough to impair vision.

   You see 3 of these things moving about (only greenish instead of reddish).  A quivering pile of tumorous flesh, this creature leaves a trail of slime as it hungrily searches for sustenance.  A single pair of perfect goblin ears sticks up from the top of one of the creature’s head, twitching and moving about in response to nearby sounds.


OOC: There is no surprise round, Bobble and Makoto go before the Fleshys.

They are fleshies and are hard to kill! Blunt weapons only! Fire or acid to kill them like trolls! Don’t cut them or pierce them either. Bobble will back away from them as he has no blunt weapon but will look for a club or such.

Conan won't say anything but will follow Bobble's lead due to my stupidity for leaving my flail on the mule.   He too will look for a club of some sort but failing that, Conan will try his WILD EMPATHY on the first one or the one he was going to attack.

Conan will move once the creatures attack, he will move and take if necessary an AOO against him in order to reach a broken table leg.   He will have his dog stay with Conan to both guard Conan and to keep the dog from harming itself.

Round 1
Bobble enters the room and grabs a chair leg big enough to be a club (1d4 dam).  With rapier in 1 hand and club in the other he waits for the oozes to attack.

Makoto asks, "anybody have a torch?" as she digs into her bag and pulls out a small bag.  Looks around and then moves into the room behind Bobble.  Chito runs in after her and "meows".  Makoto looks up in surprise at the monsters, "What... yeah maybe I should have."  Then the cat pulls out a piece of wood about club sized from the rubble pile.

Fleshy 1 slowly (about Bobbles speed, 20' move) moves and attacks Conan with a pseudo-pod in the doorway, misses.

Fleshy 2 moves toward Bobble and almost hits, but as luck would have it*, the broken table it was sliding over shifted and it missed.

Fleshy ears also moves to attack Bobble, and it almost hits, and as luck would have it*, Fleshy 2's miss interferes with Fleshy ears attack and it also misses.

* the power of Protective Luck.

Conan won't say a thing but just move 5' reach into his adventurer's sash and pull out one of his alchemical fire flasks and throw it at the ooze facing him in the doorjamb.   Conover will stay by me and growl at the Fleshie.

Round 1
Conan moves back, pulls out an alchemical fire flask and throws it at Fleshy 1 in the doorway.  The Fleshys do not seem to have much dexterity and are very easy to hit.  The liquid from the flask splashes on Fleshy 1 and starts to burn.  The room Conan is in has nothing in it, all the broken tables and chairs are in the other room.  Conover the dog does not seem inclined to attack the monster.
OOC: Conan will need to make a dc 25 Handle Animal roll(at +7) to "push", if you want the dog to attack an ooze.

Round 2
Bobble attacks with his club but misses.

Makoto and Chito slip the bag onto the end of the club, and the club becomes a torch.  Then they both move back 5' and Makoto stares intently at Bobble, "Connie, I made a torch for you."

OOC: Protective Luck on Bobble

Fleshy 1 slowly moves forward and attacks Conan with a pseudo-pod that slaps against his armor (it misses) in an attack eerily reminiscent of the mimic.  It would not surprise you if they could grab you like the mimic could, though without the mimic's adhesive.

Fleshy 2 and Fleshy ears single-mindedly attack Bobble and he easily dodges both attacks, they are so slow.

Conan will tell the dog to go away since he doesn't want to fight these things once dog is say 20' back Conan will tell the dog to stay and guard if this is all possible, if not, than he will just tell the dog to go back.   As to actions, Conan will do the same thing he did last round only stepping aside to make into the room where the others are

Round 2
Conan orders his dog back and Conover moves away, but this gives the Fleshy an opening, and the dog gets hit for 5 dam.  The pseudo-pod tries to wrap around the dog, but the dog slips out and moves back to the statue and continues growling.  Then Conan pulls out an alchemical fire flask and throws it at Fleshy 1, and misses.  The monsters attention was on the dog, so it does not get an AOO.  The flask hits above the door and the liquid splashes(1 dam) on Fleshy 1 as it continues to burn(5 dam).  Fleshy 1 is thrashing in pain, but still seems combat worthy.
OOC: under 1/2 hp

Round 3
Bobble attacks with his club and hits, but only a scratch (1 dam).

Makoto casts a spell and the torch/club moves through the air over next to Conan.  Chito jumps up onto Makotos bag and grabs another small bag out.  Makoto stares intently at the club, "Dozo Connie."

Round 3
Conan grabs the club/torch and brings it smashing onto Fleshy 1 for 1 fire and 8 club/blunt damage and it collapses (for now).  Conan notices it starts healing the non-fire damage.  Conover stays back and growls.  As Conan starts to move into the next room over the unconscious ooze, he slips and falls on the slime trail.

Round 4
Conan manages to stand up and Fleshy 1 lashes out instinctively, it's attack (AOO on standing up) goes wild.  It goes limp again, so Conan easily smashes the club into the ooze.  Conover stays back and growls.  Conan is still in the slime trail.
A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can't move that round (and must then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details). Creatures that do not move on their turn do not need to make this check and are not considered flat-footed.

Round 5
Bobble swings and misses as he fights defensively.

Round 5-15
Conan pounds on Fleshy 1 in a comedy routine of slipping and falling.  Finally, the ooze seems to have taken enough fire damage to be dying and Conan can concentrate on getting out of the slime.  Conover stays back and growls.

Round 6-16
Bobble fights defensively with his torch/club.  The oozes are mindless and relentless, but pathetic and Bobble finds them easy to dodge, however his attack accuracy suffers and he only hits about 1/2 the time.  A couple of times luck played a factor in not getting hit.

Chp 2 Wrathwarped Halls

  Almost 3 minutes after you first opened the door, the final Fleshy is taken down and stops fighting.  After fighting for so long Conan's makeshift club/torch is shattered and broken (unusable).  Bobbles club/torch is looking worn, but will probably last a bit longer.  While you were fighting the last creature you hit something hard inside it.  So after bobble makes sure these things are dead dead, not just mostly dead, you carefully poke around in them and find 2 items.  The smoke in the room is nasty with the stench of burning ooze.

Note, having it inside did not qualify as "wearing it", so it did not activate for the ooze.
   After so much fighting you are tired, but after a short rest and snack you are good to go.  While you are resting Makoto will use Detect Magic to identify what the magic items are.  She can identify the Aegis of Recovery, but she has trouble with the dust.
   While you are resting Chito "meows", Makoto says "Oh, yeah, thanks for reminding me."  She comes up to Conan and starts 'invading his personal' by looking carefully at his hands and body, particularly where it was slime covered.

The Aegis of Recovery is interesting. Conan is more likely to get hit than Bobble, so he should wear it.

Here Conan, hang onto this. If one of us gets diseased or poisoned we might need to use it.

  Suddenly aware of how close she is, Makoto jumps back embarrassed and gives a bow, "Please forgive my rudeness Mr Connie.  I have heard the Hungry Flesh can cause a deadly disease that can turn one into a Hungry Flesh. However, it looks like those were a smaller variant that perhaps did not have that ability."

You can find another club.  However, Makoto is out of her torch-in-a-bag concoction.  You might want to ask if the guards outside can spare a torch or 2.

The only thing of use in the other room is information.  The room was ransacked by goblins, probably over and over for 2 weeks.  The Fleshys probably used to be goblins.  You recall the warning;

The door to the left has seen the most use the most recently.  The door to the right has seen the least use.  They have all seen recent (last 2 weeks) use.

Conan can buy 2 oil flasks and 4 torches if he wants.

Conan returns with his flail at his side, his sword back in its scabbard and four torches and two oil flasks in his hands.  "What did I miss," Asked Conan questioningly looking around and frowning at the dust and disarray as he enters the room where Bobble & Makoto were.   Seeing that everything was in order he was smiling at how efficient Bobble was looking at everything, "So have you found all the loot yet, Bobble," he continues smiling and then laughing in general.

1 you came in through, another is the least, another is the most that leaves the last one as the middle.

   A short 10' passage leads to a large room just off the main entryway.  It appears to have housed sleeping quarters in ancient times, based on the smashed, torn, and burnt piles of bunks along the eastern wall. To the west is another rubble pile composed of half-burned and despoiled furniture: tables, chairs, and several short bookcases. Three doors in the south lead to individual quarters, although their contents have obviously been taken out, piled, and burned. There is nothing of value in the room.  There are no other exits in this room.  Chito the cat "meows" and Makoto responds, "Yes. I guess that's why it was the least used.  They had no further use for it."

Do you want to take the time to search now or go on to another door?

   The door open onto a passage that goes 25' to a "T" intersection.  Oddly, there are 2 10' poles against the wall just inside the door.  The poles have vaguely sour-smelling, beige goo residue on them.  Both passages end in doors 10' from the intersection.  Bobble can smell an acrid odor from the right.  As you are quietly wondering which way to go, the door to the left opens and there is a goblin holding a heavy bucket on the other side and another goblin that just opened the door.

Conan/Dog and Bobble go first, there is no surprise round.

Conan will allow Bobble to go before him then he will move with the dog in front of of Bobble and charge down the hallway at the goblin with the dog in the lead.   Screaming and yelling as he goes (intimidation)

   For some reason, Conan goes running down the passage screaming like a mad man, there goes any chance of surprise if someone is behind the other door only 10' away, and stands towering over the shorter goblin glowering at him.  The goblin pisses himself from fear (shaken condition).  Conover, the dog, runs barking down the passage and slams into the goblin, bowling him over and ripping a chunk of flesh out of his neck (9 dam).  The goblin is down and dying.  Makoto will move up to the corner drawing out a whip, look both ways and then stare down at the combat (ready an action).
   A quick glance sees a kitchen, smooth work surfaces line the southern wall with a single door to the west. A large stove takes up the eastern half of the room. Cupboards along the walls near the stove have been left open, and scattered cookware and crockery litter the ground. A vaguely sour-smelling, beige puddle covers much of the floor near the stove. The same substance is splattered all over the floors and ceiling of the room, and small, presumably goblin, footprints are clearly visible on the floor and counters.  You see no other goblins.
   Both dying goblins have buckets of the beige goo, leather armor and a short sword.  On a counter you see 2 goblin light wooden shields and shortbows/quivers(20 arrows).

Yes, Bobble, I'm sorry I don't know what caused me to do that, but I am sorry.  Conan says very quietly and upset with himself.   He will quietly go stand and guard the door that leads into the and from the kitchen.   The Dog, Conover, goes over and supplements the guarding that his master is doing and also sensing the owners sober mood.

   With Bobble and Conan relaxing, Makoto moves down to where the dying goblins are and asks, "What should we do with these?"  The Dog, Conover, moves over and then sniffs at the beige goo.  Does he want to eat it or roll in it?
   Just as Bobble picks up his crossbow and says

  Sure enough, on cue the other door, the door at the other end of the T intersection, opens and a goblin peers out.  His eyes grow big and he slams the door yelling something in goblin.  While none of you speak goblin you imagine it's something like "Intruders, we are under attack"...or something like that.  Behind the goblin was open floor, and you could not see any walls.


Now what are you going to do?

Conan, will think for a second and nod his head to the affirmative as he puts away his bow and picks back up sword in both hands and moves past Bobble readying for a charge down the hallway to the door.   Ms. Makoto, can I have that thing that you said that would make me grow now, please?   asks Conan of Makoto while he is moving past Bobble.   When Cohan gets to the door, he'll try to bull rush it.

Round 1
Conan puts his bow away and as he moves toward the door he draws out his sword.  He shoulders open the door and moves into the room.  Conover on command will stay and guard Makoto.

Bobble puts his crossbow away and as he moves forward behind Conan draws his rapier.

Makoto will step forward as the boys move forward, "Connie, have your dog attack."  She concentrates on Conan.  Chito moves forward and watches the rear.
Protective Luck on Conan

   The stench of this room is a pungent mixture of acrid smoke, foul body odor, and cooked cabbage. Stone tables line the eastern wall, covered in scattered bits of glass, wooden racks holding numerous vials, and various alchemical implements. Along the western side of the chamber are three pits of churning, bubbling liquid that shifts between brown, beige, and green, occasionally releasing a puff of noxious gas that drifts slowly to the floor.  All 3 pits are surrounded by this gas (all  squares adjacent to the pits).  In the room are 4 goblins.
   Three of them are using the standard goblin leather armor, light wooden shield, short sword and shortbow with 20 arrows plus a sap, but their bodies are not goblin standard.  Their bodies display a variety of mutations, such as useless extra limbs, scaly skin, an extra row of sharp teeth, lengthened fingers and toes, and extra ears growing out of odd places.  The leader is not standard.  He has a light crossbow, leather armor, daggers and alchemist stuff on.  He looks like a goblin form of Mr Hyde.


GoblinLdr says something in goblin "ldh fguj fjd gd", then pulls out a vial and throws it at Conan. It hits (even with protective luck) and explodes.  Conan takes 5 fire damage and Bobble is caught in the blast and takes 3 fire dam.  Then he retreats behind 1 of his minions.
Bobble make a ref save, dc 13 to take 1/2no(evasion) damage.

goblin1 dips a hand into the pool and pulls up a glob of stuff(protoflesh) and throws it at Conan, and hits.  The glob seems to have a life of its own as it tries to latch on to Conan, the pain is intense.  He has a sword out.
Conan, roll a dc12 For save

goblin2 was hiding behind Lab Table 1 and takes a flat-footed shot from her bow at Conan, but as luck would have it*, Conan dodges it while reacting to the pain of the glob of protoflesh.  Then she moves back behind Lab Table 2.

goblin3 throws more of the protoflesh at Conan, but the range is just to far and she misses.  She draws her sword with her empty hand, the other seems to have more protoflesh in it.

*, the power of Protective Luck.

Conan grits his teeth in pain as the protoflesh seems to take hold and become part of his body.  Seeing this the goblin leader smiles with glee and says something in goblin "KHG GHFE SES RT".  Conan moves ahead and attacks the same goblin as Bobble, but the pain from the protoflesh causes him to flinch and he too misses his target.  Upon command Conover comes bounding into the room and runs up snarling to Goblin 2.

Makoto will move into the room, drawing her bolas as she does.  Bolas in 1 hand, wand in the other she scans the room, ready to act.  Chito moves forward and watches the rear.
Ready action to Protective Luck


GoblinLdr says in goblin, "prum kjhf", then waits...

goblin1 readies his shield and attacks Conan with his sword, but is deflected by Conans armor (miss).

goblin2 shrieks in horror as the dog comes bounding up.  She drops her bow, pulls out her sword and shield.

goblin3 moves over and throws more of the protoflesh at Bobble, at this Makoto reacts and uses Protective Luck on the gnome.  Bobble is to quick on his feet and the protoflesh misses.  She readies her shield and stands there with sword and shield ready.

...GoblinLdr pulls out another vial and throws it at Bobble, and even with protective luck the vial hits and does 5 dam(fire) to Bobble.  It splashes Conan for 1 dam(fire) and Goblin 1 for 3 dam.  Goblin 1 is hurt, but still alive.  The leader laughs maniacally.

Bobble make a ref save, dc 13 to take 1/2no(evasion) damage.

Bobble manages to hit with his rapier, but just a scratch.  Flanking would help.  The goblins don't seem effected by the gas cloud.

Conan screams in pain, but manages to slash the goblin a deep wound.  If the goblin isn't dead, he soon will be. Previously the protoflesh had hit his breastplate and some had splashed into his mouth where it grew into extra teeth, a painful process apparently.  Conover snaps at Goblin 2, but she avoids the snapping jaws.

Makoto will step forward and touch Bobble with the wand and his wounds close and heal 8 dam.  Then she puts the wand away and draws out a dagger to match the bolas in her other hand.  Chito watches the rear.

goblin1 twitches for a few seconds and then is still.  From the amount of blood pooling on the floor you can pronounce this one DEAD.

goblin2 swings her sword about in desperate fear of the dogs slavering jaws and misses completely.

goblin3 moves forward and attacks Bobble muttering something in goblin "CDDH MHHY SWW"

GoblinLdr pulls out another vial and throws it at Bobble, and hits for 7 dam(fire) to Bobble.  It splashes(all made their ref saves) Conan, Makoto and Goblin 3 for 1 dam(fire).  The leader laughs maniacally.  He is very dexterous, even better than Bobble.  He looks at the door and then at the dogs, and then pulls out a dagger in 1 hand.

Bobble moves around Goblin 3 (who misses on the AOO) and waits...

Conan moves through the gas cloud and attacks the leader, but misses.  The gas cloud is foul smelling.  Goblin 3 was distracted by Bobble, so no AOO.  Conover snaps at Goblin 2 and catches her ziging when she should have zagged, doing 14 dam.   Goblin 2 collapses on the floor bleeding heavily.  The dog moves over next to Conan, but starts panting heavily and does not look well.

Bobble will drop his rapier and move back 10’ from the gas cloud. As he moves he will bring his crossbow to the ready position and shoot at the goblin leader.

Bobble makes an excellent shot at the goblin leader, but does minimal damage.

Makoto could you give me another touch with the wand?

Round 5
Bobble will draw out his crossbow as he moves back to the door.  He fires and forces the goblin leader to dodge his attack (1 dam).

Conan almost loses his lunch, but he mans up and keeps it down, and he quickly starts to ignore the smell.  Conan steps over and swings a decent attack, but the goblin leader reacts so fast that Conan's sword only hits the goblins armor.  Conover moves out of the gas but continues to try to lick the nasty taste/smell away.  By the end of the round he seems to have recovered.
Once you make the save for the gas you don't need to make another for 24hrs, so Conan is fine.  The sickened condition last for 1 round.
The GoblinLeaders AC is more than 18, it is 21

Conan watching the solid attack just skid along the Goblin's armor and nearly retching his cookies from the cloud will swing his massive sword again in the hopes of wounding the little demon spawn.   This time the attack connected but the Goblin still moved out of the cloud and Conan is thinking, We have you now you little sucker, and will pursue the leader from the cloud by charging the little bugger.

I already posted what is in the pits in various descriptions of the combat.

Basically it is the protoflesh used in fleshwarping.  It made the goblins into mutants,  created the Fleshys and gave Conan extra teeth.  You can't just "turn it off".  It would take a magic skilled person a lot of time to study and understand it.

We will gather up the food box, and the lab stuff here. We will come back for it. We are not even close to finished here. Too much time to take it out now. Each of us should take an alchemist Fire. Let’s take the recipe book now and the magic bead.

Bobble will divide the things as above. He gives the book to Conan to carry for now.

Then he will search the other doors out of this room after filling his quiver back up with crossbow bolts.

Conan will you please finish off any of these goblins that are still alive?

Chp 2 Wrathwarped Halls

  The door opens on to a short 10' long passage that opens into a silent room.  The western side of the room is lined with wooden doors fitted with iron bars. Many of the doors are open, revealing bunched up piles of filthy rags heaped in what must have once been cells. A single metal door opens to the east, and another passageway leads south.  It was a prison, but today the goblins use it as sleeping quarters. They see the barred doors as comforting, having themselves been raised in cages. There are no goblins currently present and it's difficult to guess how many goblins there are.  There does not appear to be anything of value.  There is only 1 other way out, down a 15' long passage.  As you approach the door you hear harsh goblin voices yelling, no, that's goblin "singing" on the other side.

NOTE; I forgot the 15' long passage to the right out of room A9 - that leads to the door with goblin singing.

   Conan opens the door.  This room’s ceiling is thirty feet high. Halfway up the smooth stone walls, the room widens slightly, creating a narrow ledge that runs the entire perimeter, with exits to the east and south. The floor in the lower portion is sand, clumped and stained in places by blood. Bones, broken armor, and shattered weapons are scattered about the floor, and a musty smell permeates the space. Barred metal doors lead out from the lower level to the west(Where you are entering) and south.
  Conan, and eventually everyone, sees winged goblins.  2 are having a mock battle in the air with wooden spears.  They don't appear to be very good at flying.  There is a 3rd one standing on the ledge to the left looking your direction, probably at the singer.  The singing is coming from overhead somewhere.  The goblin on the left glances down and sees you, his eyes go wide.  The winged goblins only weapons are dull wooden spears and claws.

Conan and Conover move in and the dog growls at the goblins, but is unable to reach them.

Makoto will concentrate and provide Conover with some luck as she steps forward 5'.  Chito will move to the doorway and "meow" at Makoto, in response  she will say "Ok Connie, be sure to stay where I can see you and I will cast my enlarge person spell on you if you want.  Just wait a moment."
If Conan wants the enlarge person spell he will need to be in Makoto's line of sight all of next round, which means the line of squares leading out from the passage she is in.

Bobble moves into the room.
Goblins on ledges do have some cover from your crossbow due to the angle and shooting in melee does provoke an AOO.

After moving into the room you see a 4th winged, goblin4, but her wings are bandaged.
Sorry, most of the goblins rolled exceptionally well on initiative.
Round 1
GoblinSinger's song falter's as the party bursts into the room.  But she reacts quickly, she starts an awful goblin song and draws her shortbow as she moves around the ledge.  Her song sounds angry and the goblins seem to pickup on that vibe.  They start gnashing their teeth and frothing at the mouth.  The combination of her song, magic and the echoing acoustics of this chamber also causes damage to nongoblins.
OOC: raging song; puts her allies into a sort of rage.
Conan, Bobble, Conover and Chito make For save dc12 or take 1 sonic dam


goblin1, liking to pick on the seemingly weak, flies over and lands near Bobble, attacking with daggerlike claws, but misses.

goblin2 and goblin3 growl back at the dog and plummet from the air to land next to him, screaming vile goblin things at him.  Goblin2 somehow manages to hit conover and they are now grappling in a vicious melee of tooth and claw.  Goblin3 misses.

OOC: Your turn, everyone may act.  Goblin4 is still flat-footed

Round 1
Conan ignores the pain from the song and moves, giving goblin3 an AOO, but as luck would have it*, the goblin misses.  Once Conan can see Makoto he turns and does not miss.  Goblin3 takes a nasty hit and goes down, bleeding(dying).  Conover howls in pain but attacks.  The dog manages to reverse the grapple and now the dog has a bite on goblin2.

Makoto will say "Ok Connie." and start casting a spell.  Chito (no dam from song) will move 5' away from the goblin and ready an action.

Bobble also makes his save from the song, drops crossbow(on sling), draws rapier and attacks and hits.
Goblins on ledges do have some cover from your crossbow due to the angle and shooting in melee does provoke an AOO.

Round 2
GoblinSinger continues her creepy song and continues moving around the ledge.  She shoots her shortbow, but misses Conan.  The combination of her song, magic and the echoing acoustics of this chamber also causes damage to nongoblins.

goblin1 yells at goblin4 in goblin, then moves 5' and waits...

goblin2 manages to reverse the grapple and now the goblin has a hold on the dog.

goblin4 moves over and jumps down landing hard in the sand.  She claws at Bobble from the ground but misses.

...goblin1 manages to tear into Bobble, and worse he manages to get a hold on the gnome.  Bobble is now in a grapple.

Enlarged Conan takes 1 dam from the singing before slicing goblin2 almost in 2.  Conover initially ignores Conan and finishes off goblin2.  Then, for a moment, he turns toward Bobble and looks like he might just attack him as well.  But the dog seems to regain his senses and moves over near the door.

From the stairs on the west side comes the sound of a door slamming open and a loud goblin ??? voice yelling something, VERY LOUDLY.
You also hear the sound of feet coming up the stairs as 3...things scamper onto the ledge and Makoto says the name, "Fleshdregs."  They stop and sniff the air.

FleshDreg2 and FleshDreg3, with little to no sense of self-preservation, fling themselves at Conan.  Conan cuts FleshDreg2 in half (dead).  But he can't react (take an AOO) to Fleshdreg3 as it flings itself onto Conan and bites him.  Flame shoots out from its mouth causing more damage(Conan takes 3+1fire dam).  It tries to hold on to Conan, but slips down to the floor.

GoblinSinger looks surprised when Conan doesn't flee and them focuses on Bobble when his crossbow bolt goes right through hat.  She looks down at the hat and back at Bobble, and says in Common "That was my favorite hat you bastard."  She doesn't seem overly concerned that you just killed all her comrades, but the hat has made her angry.  She shoots an arrow, but hits the dead Fleshdreg next to Bobble.  She moves down the stairs a few feet to gain some cover.  Now that Bobble has had a decent look at her, she is using a nice looking shortbow, masterwork for sure.
OOC: She has +2 AC vs Bobbles bolts.

FleshDreg3 dead

You hear the sound of running coming up the stairs.  The gait is unlike anything you have ever heard, but it sounds fast.  Lurching onto the ledge is a hairless dog-like creature on back-bent, dog-like legs.  Its hideous mouth is flanked by tiny arms with three-fingered hands.  Riding the thing, and barely hanging on, is a female winged goblin with claws for hands and a rat-like tail.  She wears leather armor, a nice cloak and carries a ranseur and throwing axes.  Makoto mutters, "Sinspawn."

Fleshwarped Queen jumps off the SinSpawnDog and draws her ranseur.  She stares at Conan, "GIANT, DOG, GIANT, DOG...WHICH KILL FIRST."  Apparently she is always loud.

SinSpawnDog continues straight at Conan, easily leaping down to the ground.  While it tries to evade an AOO with acrobatics, it fails.
OOC; Conan gets an AOO.

Conan is no longer Shaken
Conover wouldn't attack the SinSpawnDog because it's an aberration, but he would attack the Fleshwarped Queen if you want him to.


Makoto stares at the SinSpawnDog in disbelief, "I think that's a goblin dog turned into a sinspawn.  Conan take that abomination out quickly."  She looks a little sick at the thought of it's existence.  She uses the wand on Conover, the dog, before telling him to attack, but Conover is not overly enthusiastic about this idea and doesn't move. Then she pulls out her bolas.
Chito will watch the rear.

Bobble shoots his crossbow and hits Fleshwarped Queen, but like the other winged goblins, her wounds start healing.

Round 8
GoblinSinger moves back up the stairs to get a clear shot at Bobble, but it doesn't help and she misses.

Fleshwarped Queen yells at the goblinsinger in common "SONG, ME WANT SONG TO KILL BY."  So the Goblinsinger starts singing.  It's the same song, but it seems to lack magical power and doesn't echo the same way (and doesn't cause damage).  Meanwhile, the FWQ starts raging to the music and spews a 20' jet of flame at Conan (it goes over the head of the SinSpawnDog) before flying down to the floor.
Conan, Reflex DC 13 half on 10 fire damage, save=5 dam

SinSpawnDog attacks Conan, fails to hit with the bite but does hit with both claws for 11 dam.

Enlarged Conan manages to dodge the fire, but is looking the worse for it.  Seemingly in desperation he swings at the SinSpawnDog and slices it in 2.  The Goblinsinger's eyes grow big, but the Fleshwarped Queen doesn't seem to notice.
Conover eagerly leaps to the attack, moving towards the Fleshwarped Queen.  With her reach weapon she hits Conover as he moves in to attack, doing more damage than you might think for her small size, 12 dam.  Hurting, the dog misses.

GoblinSinger focuses on Bobble and hits him with a crit, doing 7 dam.  Then she moves around the ledge toward the other stairs, singing as she goes.

Fleshwarped Queen screams incoherently "ARGGGG..." and hits Conan hard with her weapon (10 dam) and Conan almost falls to the floor.  He is hanging on by grit and determination.  In an animal-like fury she turns and bites Conover for 4 dam.
Conan is at 0hp and Staggered.

GoblinSinger stops singing, casts a spell and disappears, seconds later you hear a clattering sound on the stairs (MARKED ON MAP).

Fleshwarped Queen continues her animal-like screaming "ARGGGG..." while biting Conover for 5 dam.  As the dog drops to the ground bleeding she whirls on Conan, blood dripping from her mouth, and snarls.  She steps back 5' and its Conan with her ranseur, doing 12 dam.  As her weapon open a life threatening wound, the Aegis of Recovery around his neck glows briefly and then disintegrates, but his wounds quickly heal.  The FWQ screams in a spray of Conover's blood "DIE, DIE, DIE."
Conover is at -1, dying
Aegis of Recovery activates and heals 16 dam, but is then destroyed

BAM, GoblinSinger appears right next to Bobble, having just attacked him with her flail from invisibility...and missing.  She does not appear to have her shortbow.
Rolled a &^%^%& 2.

Fleshwarped Queen fixates on Conan, blood dripping from her mouth, she hits with her ranseur, doing 9 dam.  Conan is badly wounded with 1 hp left.  Stunned that the halforc giant still stands, the FWQ attempts to move 5' forward, but Chito's readied action goes off first.  Chito darts in and blocks the FWQ's path forward, so she takes her anger out on the cat and bites it instead, 3 dam.

BAM, GoblinSinger misses.

Chito jumps forward and by the FWQ, not expecting this the FWQ tries to bite the cat, but misses (AOO, miss).  This gives the cat a chance to get away.

Fleshwarped Queen swings at Conan, doing 8 dam.  Conan should be dying, but his orcish heritage keeps him standing.  Stunned that the halforc giant still stands, the FWQ attempts to move 5' forward, and again Chito's readied action goes off first.   She darts in and blocks the FWQ's path forward, so she takes her anger out on the cat, missing this time.  Both Conan and the FWQ are on their last legs...who will draw their last breath?  Makoto will say, "wait for me Connie."
Conan is again disabled/Staggered for 1 more round before he starts dying.

  Makoto will also offer this observation.  While detecting magic earlier she felt this place had focused energies.  But now if feels the energies are unfocused.  She believes the leader or leaders were the focus, and with their deaths the focus Julian was talking about is gone.

When Conan feels okay enough to talk he will thank Ms. Makoto for all that she had done and when Bobble tries to make him comfortable he will thank Bobble as well and apologize for not being a better fighting companion, both quietly said so only he could hear.   Once Conan feels up to moving and we are done exploring he will go get Dorsey from outside.

Even though the donkey was scared to go underground, Conan was able to handle it well enough to get the mule down to the lab at least.   Hey Bobble, that torch you gave me for the stone really is useful especially in helping to cokes resisting animals down into darkened areas.   Commented Conan to Bobble when he brought the donkey back to the group but below ground.

Carefully you explore the last couple of rooms and find no more threats.


A10 Office/Makeshift Goblin Throne Room
   This octagonal room looks to have once served as an office: a smashed desk is shoved against the north wall near toppled bookcases. A large pile of books, some with chewed-off covers, has been arranged into the shape of a makeshift throne. To the northeast sits a two-foot-diameter boulder covered in shiny baubles, coins, and other trinkets.
   The boulder was obviously important to the goblins, but is not really special or magical.  Goblins will be goblins.  You recall the song from before;

Then suddenly, as Gugnack sneezed, The boulder disappeared! Such fear! More tears! Yes, the boulder disappeared!

and conclude it might have had some religious significance.  The baubles and such seem to be offerings, but are mostly worthless goblin junk.  A few coins and a wand are all you can find.

A6 Library
   This room’s magnificent, vaulted ceiling rises to a height of twenty-five feet, and its walls are covered with mahogany bookshelves that nearly reach the ceiling. The once-beautiful wood is chipped, broken, and charred in most places, and the shelves are nearly empty. Most of the books, tomes, and scrolls are piled unceremoniously on the floor in two large heaps that still smolder feebly. A few cushioned chairs spew stuffing onto the ground, and several once-beautiful paintings lay smashed on the floor, their images ripped and shredded.
   Makoto is saddened by this wanton destruction and the lost knowledge.  Goblins are such destructive little creatures.  After 10 minutes of searching (and making perception checks) you manage to find some intact books that look like they could be worth some gold.  Makoto is of little help in this endeavor as she is constantly getting side tracked (absent minded).
   You return to Julian at the entrance and report what you have found.  He agrees with Makoto, the wrathful magical energies are more disorganized and he should be able to seal them away, making it safe for further exploration.  Makoto and Julian come to the conclusion the goblin leaders were acting as a focus for the sinful energies of wrath.  After a few hours’ rest, while you pack up the lab using the destroyed book pages/chair cushions/etc..., Julian successfully seals the magical energies within the ruin, preventing it from taking another champion like the goblins and rendering it safe for future exploration.  It is probably safer to bring the stuff to the donkey in this case.
   Tide Watcher and the other villagers thank the PCs for their service. Back at the village you can arrange more secure transportation of the lab equipment, a crate perhaps.  Julian will accompany the group back to Laketown and will get to know you and your relationship with Diridon the Dashing.  But first the fishing village throws a small feast in your honor.  Nothing lavish, they are a simple poor village, but they do what they can.

Is there anything you want to do in the village?
Anything you want from the dungeon (trophies, etc...)?

I will cover Diridon the Dashing in a future post, once I figure out what the next adventure will be.

   Makoto will try to chat with any spellcasters the village has, see if there are any witches in the area and perhaps arrange to learn some new spells.  Otherwise she wants to learn about these people and their history, magic and the nature around here.

The way Loot works;
1- I add up the "what you can sell it for" value## (usually 1/2 the "buy it for" value)= total treasure amount(TTA)
2- divide TTA by shares (3 = Conan,Bobble,Makoto), that is your share
3- if there is an item in the loot you want, you subtract its "what you can sell it for" value from your share and that is your new your share
4- if there is an item whose "what you can sell it for" value is greater than your share, then you owe other shares the difference.
5- anything not claimed is assumed to be sold for its "what you can sell it for" value


Makoto will suggest
- the 750gp for the Aegis of Recovery be written off and not charged to anyone as it was vital in winning the battle.
- Conan owes her 125gp for his share of the wand of clw from before
- everyone put in 250gp for a new wand of clw
- the scrolls of cure moderate wounds/remove disease Makoto can use (witch spells),
  the scrolls of lesser restoration she can't use (not a witch spell),
  but if we need them it we could get someone to cast them from the scrolls
- she would like to purchase 1 scroll of cure moderate wounds from the group for 80gp

Assuming you agree to the above;
that would leave Conan with 1725gp, Bobble with 1850gp and Makoto with 1855gp.

Oh I missed the small MW short bow. Yes he will take that. I propose the following:

+1 Cloak of resistance to Conan
      Any of the non magic stuff he wants.

+1 leather armor to Bobble
     MW shortbow and 40 arrows
     Several small daggers

Dust of dryness to Makoto. ? Bookplate of recall if she wants it? Wand of scorching ray?

Sell the +1 ranseur and the lab stuff with book of recipes and magic bead.

FYI Bobble will be selling his MW cold iron Rapier as he is sticking with daggers.

OK so selling a MW crossbow should be about   160gp.
MW Cold Iron Rapier would be about            320gp.

So for selling these two Bobble will get      +480gp.
and his current funds from both chapters are +1,790gp
for a total of                                2,270gp.

Chp 2 Wrathwarped Halls

   Back in Laketown Julian will tell you what he knows about Diridon the Dashing.  Julian met  Diridon shortly after Diridon arrived in Laketown.  Diridon got in a fight with a local man when he was caught flirting with the man's wife.  Diridon had some companions that beat the man up pretty good, and then fled town.  So to make amends Diridon brought the man to Julian for healing.  Diridon was originally going by another name, Frobert Shyde.  Under a Zone of Truth spell it came out that his name was Diridon the Dashing and his companions were just some drunk mercenaries who he had traveled with him to Laketown.  The local authorities eventually decided not to arrest Diridon.
   When it got out who he was, he was visited by the towns apprentice midwife/cleric of Pharasma.  A young halforc woman (Arran Brewe) who was supposedly the daughter of Diridon the Dashing.  They chatted awhile and then she left.  Julian got the impression from Arran that she was mistaken, but in talking with Diridon Julian got the impression that Diridon thought of her in a fatherly manner, he didn't try to seduce her even once.  Her mother seems to have fallen to the same illness/curse/whatever that Conan and Bobble's mother has.
   As for where Diridon went, Julian suggests you look in the fortified capitol of the Lebeda family’s territory, Silverhall.

Julians impressions of Diridon are as follows;
- not a killer, just a womanizer.
- was originally going by another name, Frobert Shyde.
- really experienced (high level)

Bobble:
Bobble will approach the cleric quietly and ask if he would be interested in traveling with us as we seek our father. If he declines, no sweat.
Julian will decline, he has duties to attend to, but stop by when you are in the area.  He will also let you stay at his place while you are in town.

aFate in Loot:
Julian will also scribe a 2nd level cleric scroll for each of you

What scrolls did you have him make for you?

I'll have him do a scroll of cure moderate wounds and buy 2 potions of cure light wounds plus enough food and other provisions for the next leg of our journey.   I have 1239 gp's left to spend.

OOC:Try to do some Role=playing and post in-character.
Information you can easily obtain (Diridon the Dashing was THE talk of the town recently).
  Arran Brewe, halforc (actually 1/4 orc with strong orcish heritage= 1/2orc), female, 18, cleric of pharasma, apprentice midwife.  Her mother (human) has recently fallen "ill" (the same illness/curse/whatever that Conan and Bobble's mother has).  Her stepfather (human) was an undertaker, but died last year(of old age).  Her family is upper middle class.  She has a younger human half-brother who is going to take over as undertaker in a year.
  There is some confusion in town as to the identity of Diridon the Dashing.  Local legend has it that a 1/2orc Diridon the Dashing came through 18 years ago and Arran was the result, but the recent Diridon the Dashing was a 1/2elf!
   Julian will setup a meeting.  Conan, Bobble and Makoto are in Julian's meeting room sitting around on couches. Tea and biscuits are available.  Julian and Arran will enter, Julian will introduce each of you and then say "They would like to talk to you about important matters.  I think you might want to hear what they have to say".  Then Julian leaves.  Arran sits down and waits for someone to speak.

  Arran seems confused about how a gnome and halforcs are children of a halfelf.  But Makoto theorizes, "He may have a means of reincarnation, or some unusual shapeshifting ability, like dragons do.  I have heard stories about your Dragon King and all his children.  Maybe he is the Dragon King reincarnated.  You won't know unless you find him.  More importantly, finding him seems your best shot at curing your mom, maybe he knows why it is happening."
  Arran, "Among the stories my mom told me, apparently shortly after I was conceived a local tough claims to have killed my father, the 1/2orc Diridon the Dashing.  But his claims were laughed off as a drunken memory because no body was found.  However, my mom never saw Diridon after that.  Also, maybe the halfelf Diridon was something.  When I talked to him he denied he had ever been here before and that he could be my father.  However, after the halfelf Diridon left I found a bag of gold in my room.  Maybe that was him.  I admit I am curious, but I'm not an adventurer.  I'm just a cleric of Pharasma, I don't even own any armor."

If you want her to come along, give me a soliloquy and a diplomacy roll, you can take 10 if you think that will work.  She's not unfriendly (Indifferent at worst), but she does need to be convinced.  Bonus points to the skill for a good soliloquy.

Because Conan isn't very good at diplomacy he will keep quiet during the proceedings, however, when it comes to convincing her to join us on our quest, he'll say,Surely we didn't start out as explorers of the Unknown?   Look at your leaving with us as a way of increasing your knowledge of what your God does and wants you to do.   As a way to increase your clerical skills and abilities to such a degree that you can be a more efficient practioner for your God.


OOC: 13:01, Today: Conan rolled 18 using 1d20+1.  aid another Diplomacy roll.
     (here is the roll for aid another if a simple take 10 isn't allowed)

Bobble completely fails to put his words together in a meaningful way. (Rolled a 1, for 8, 10 with Conans help)

My dear lady, we are off to seek answers both about our father and about how to help our mothers get better. We are not heroes, just ordinary guys trying to do the right thing. We can help equip you if you need armor, and can help train you how to fight if you need it. We could use your help with healing along the way.

Conan isn't going to mention this but he has a scroll he can't use whatsoever, the cure moderate wounds,   he'll need it to be sure but he cannot cast it.

DMEdit; Conan can't cast it, but Makoto can.  So you can either leave it with her, or tell her where it is in case you are unconscious when you need it used.

  Arran suddenly stands up, "It's strange having more sibings.  I've always wondered if I had any, though I never dreamed one would be a gnome."  She silent for a moment, deep in thought, and with a look of determination on her face she proclaims "You've convinced me, I would only be a burden to you.  Best of luck and look me up the next time you are passing through town.  I will try to research our mother's problems from here while you try to find our father."

 Dear sister, please take this money and get yourself some armor and a weapon. Probably a shield as well. You need to be able to defend yourself if someone tries to harm you or your people here.

Bobble will then prepare to leave town with Conan and Makoto as soon as he is ready to travel. He will use speak with animals to speak to his goat and new dogs each day. He will also entertain the local children with prestidigitation and slight of hand tricks. When ready to travel he will use the goat as a pack animal and will ride the golden retriever, whose name is Tucker. The terriers are guard dogs for the camp and animals and will not be going into dungeons etc with Bobble.

Conan will make ready to leave town for the fortified capital ASAP.   What time he isn't spending prepping to leave is spent at the blacksmith, picking up new tricks, ways of doing things and asking questions of the man and exchanging ideas etc.
