Hehehe this; this I can approve of. I like drama :P I am guessing the Felkan Wahedeen are all Flowereaters, which leaves by default the Bartimaeun Order have all the Flesheaters and a generous proportion of Flowereaters...tantalizing to see how this drama unfolds :P (I am deprived of creativity and drama in daily life; I deal with numbers and contracts and the people who buy contracts off clients all day so...yeah. If I seem dramatic, I am just repressed is all...)

Re: OOC

Since people asked, the Empire Game idea uses all the same rules for ACTing but will have a very different set of restrictions and parameters as the group each adopts one nation on a planet and controls them for one age. Sort of a micro manage as the world shifts around them. Think civilization or that ilk of game. You play the nation more than the leader. i'd do it in between ages as a sort of allowing you all to input in that level of the game. Not sure on the details as of yet. Might put it off for now. Just an idea.

Acting out of your domain for this act will invoke Ao's Wrath. I will start working on the passing of time post, probably in chunks, Monday and Tuesday. We should start The Second Aeon mid next week.

Sometimes, you have to act a bit out of character to get to your goals. How much does Bartimaeus' own ambition drive him? Simple questions: what is your goal, what is preventing this, and how can you motivate someone to solve the blockage?

The most important questions: Are you focusing too narrowly, what else can you focus on, why?

Peeps be stomping around the world right now doing big stuff, but I think I have shown that subtle ACTs reap just as much reward with, often, less disaster. The Interbreeding thing was very interesting after all. Look at Eris' ACTs. There is a whole underworld now, just noone make Drow or Illithids. That's boring. LOL.

I felt the ACT was too undefined in scope and dangerous in effect. As for a rule, the ACT had the potential of directly interacting with the ACTs of other gods. Say Ba'El or The new reaper kills a Felkan? What if a Sylph managed to kill a Felkan? I am talking in circles, but the idea is that it has too much of a potential of interacting with another god is all. So, minor wrath.

Re: OOC

All players who are at risk of paradox are hereby warned that I will be putting them in STASIS at the end of the day tomorrow.  You will loose all saved actions. If this continues without any notice from you for two more days, I will be forced to take drastic action. Now, if you can't post for whatever reason, let me know and you can be pit in regular STASIS. Otherwise, Paradox STASIS will occur, which is going to be filled with wrath. Another alternate is to post. Hexk, if you are just having troubles figuring a post out, let me know. This type of game depends on regular posting. This Aeon has gotten off to a slow and lackluster start....

Okay, lasy day to post without major ramifications. Ivalice and Bartimaeus are fine, Tur'eum should be back today from his declared break. Eris is cool. The other three are pissing Ao off. I really don't mind if you all are busy, but please let me know what is going on with your schedule so I can plan for this age.

New updates up as well as the ramifications of PARADOX invoked by certain gods. Tur'eum is back as of yesterday and is building ACTs again. Enjoy the boon those who gained them!

Also, the ITEM OF POWER STASIS is revoked once those gods post again. Now, if they remain dormant for much longer, how would people feel about me advertising for a few new gods?

Ord ACTs function just like a domain ACT. It has to match the domain of the Orb is all, then you can use it like a normal ARTIFACT of its type.

No worries, it would not be a blanket advert, and new gods would have to answer questions to get in based on the world. I would be very careful.

Also, three spots in the game are in peril. If it gets to ten days without them posting, which is in three days' time, then I will be removing the players and seeking new ones, either to take over characters of bring in new gods. Inwould encourage them to raise fro. The mortals as gods insteads, but we'll see.

What did people think of, in the next age, the first generation of gods all retired and we all moved into new gods raised from mortal stock? Makes for an interesting idea! Yes?

Jaory, please be careful.

As Rule #1 says, you have ONE SENTENCE per day with which you may ACT. If you wish to write more than one sentence, please make your actual ACT stand out in some way (underlined, emboldened, differently colored or something of that nature).

I am very, very leery of compound sentences, complex sentences, and domino effects. I chose to interpret the Djinn ACT in a way that did not provoke WRATH, but CREATING the Djinn and the ASSIGNING them could have been seen as two ACTs easily. Be careful, please.

For the players, not their characters, know the next inbetween you get to do things, too. I decided to let you guys' gods be born into the world while they slumber and a fraction of their conscious is active as a hero. You'll see how I work this in as it happens. Gotta save some surprises. The method you choose your mortal mother and your characters' births will be your first actions in the inbetween.

Re: OOC

Alright, I have begun work on a project to flesh out and gather together information for ease of reference. I am currently working on races and would be happy to have people who wish throw together vlurbs for races as theynwish. I might edit them, but it would save me time and trouble. Just let me know you are working on it so I don't overlap too much. Each entry should consist of Appearance/History, Customs/Culture, Personality, Associations/Alliances both woth other mortals and deities.

I already did one for Bartimaeans as an example.

Bartimaeans This race is one of the so-called "wahedeen" races descended from the first 10 sentient veings ever created. Those 10 are still rememebered amongst the Bartimaeans and their names are still amongst the most common of Bartimaean chosen names. These Wahedeen still revere the original creator of their race and the creator of order, reason, and law. They form a distinct subrace of Wahedeen due to this. They manifest the features he created them with proudly: tall and muscular with triangular torsos and powerful arms and legs they possess grey eyes and either red, from the color of blood to the color of fire, or blonde hair.
All the Wahedeen races are extremely long-lived, averaging 500 years, and mature slowly. They achieve their name day around the age of 50 and are considered elderly around 300 and ancient at 450. When vorn, they are given a child's name which will remain a pet name for them, usually, throughout their life. Upon reaching 50, each child stands a vigil and then chooses to take the Oath or not. 80% of them do. Those who do not are not looked down upon at al and are always allowed to take the Oath later in life. The zoath is, afterall, open to all people always. Those who do not take the Oath generally join small farming communities and tend toward large, peaceful families. Those who take the Oath have a far more open path ahead of them. Most find a trade or profession, but roughly 50% of all Bartimaeans join the Order of Bartimaeus and take vows in one of the many knightly orders. This makes them one of the largest militaries in the world outside of thr Citadel or Mooru's lands.
Bartimaeans prize order and law above all. Each strives to find hisnplace in thenworld and occupy it with skill and dedication. they do prize ambition but without social climbing. Bartimaean ambition comes in perfecting their chosen role in life. It makes them donsumate warriors, monks, sorcerers, and whatever else they choose to be. That said, they compartmentalize well, too. At work they are professional; at home they are warm and affectionate people.
Bartimaeans are close to their cousins amongst the Alexandrans, Sileasians, and Windborne. They believe their ancient cousins, the Felkans, to be extinct for now. The acerage Bartimaean reveres Bartimaeus, obviously, but many of them once revered Felka, Tamiko, and even Tur'eum. Recently, they have added the Lovers as a favored second deity and are known to use Erisian curses frequently.

It was definitely a matrix reference when I first did it.  I never got around to making the Seraph et al.

The corridor was based on an idea I read in a book, I think a magician called Pug moved around in a similar place.

Then the Siren's Crossroads was obligatory at that point

Hmm, well, we have a mix of Wahedeen, elves, D'warfs, and more. I figured it would take at least that long for everyone to mature. I considered 75 years instead. Oh, it takes a wahedeen fifty to be xonsidered an adult by the bye. Xonsider these ten to be character creation. You will get less in future jumps but these need to purchase innate TALENTS and SKILLS and maybe even INFORMATION.

Re: OOC

Yeah, I suppose it makes sense if most of the time is spent walking around sucking on a pacifier. One thing, though, great Ao: it seems likely that actions will build on one another. Say the actions go as follows:

ACTION 1: character learns sorcery
ACTION 2: character sprouts wings for no reason
ACTION 3: character uses wings to fly to the Juggernaut and tweak Mooru's nose
ACTION 4: etc.

If action 2 fails (because it doesn't make any sense), and actions 3-10 rely on action 2's success for them to make any sense (because the character needs to be able to fly), do actions 3-10 fail likewise? Because that's 90% of a lot of writing falling apart over one misstep. Should we just try to avoid this by having actions be fairly independent of each other?

Re: OOC

I'm sure if there was something in your Actions that caused the other ones to fail the Ao would do one of two things (from what I know of him/her):

1.  The Ao would do his very best to reconcile the further Actions in the spirit of the intent

2.  The Ao would contact you by PM to give you a chance to reconcile the later actions

This Ao isn't "out to get you" as some are in other god games (though I am sure you can already tell this one is quite different!).  You won't be penalized inadvertently (if anything, you might give ME more work :-p ;-) ).  This Ao is a pretty fair one.

So, Friday at midnight I will move forward with only the heroes who have posted. I know this first post is a big hurdle, but they will never be this big again. I just wanted you to have enough ACTIONS to get your character established with some traits and such. Most subsequent periods will ve a decade of less and have far fewer ACTIONS involved once we hpget there.

Man, you already have your own party of adventurers, that's pretty sweet! Avaria's got to buy herself some plucky NPC companions at some point.

EDIT: whoops, posted right over some fresh divine commandments. Ao, is it all right to not use all of the actions assigned? I had a bit of difficulty thinking of ten significant actions, so can people just do a post with say, 5-7 significant actions if that's all they need to establish their characters?

The fact that a certain triage of world class thieves are also there is naught but a bonus. ;3
Using dreaded dnd terms, Kaiden is more chaotic than lawful, if Koichi and Lupin would like to work together to take down any gangs that work for Mooru in some way.
Of course the meeting wouldn't go as simple. It's not in the good adventurers blood to talk civilly to thieves! XD
In return, Kaiden wouldn't come after their holdings while he was in Septis, as his main goal was beginning to focus on Mooru. ;3
Jabrail is also a prime ally, as we both are after the same goal. If nothing else, an adventuring party would prove a useful distraction from any forces defending specific targets.
Kaiden sees courage and dedication in you both, and is definitely willing to help should a good goal be seen.

Re: OOC

In reply to Kaiden (msg # 253):

Hehehe the Septis gangs are interesting for a lot of reasons, money to be made and a thorn in Mooru's side. Jibrail is just plain neutral; he does not care who, or how, only why. He has his objectives and everything else is just a detail standing between him and the endgame. Money is as nice to him as anything as it is useful; it could be just as easily be priests rather than thieves and merchants, but his reaction would be the same :P

For those interested, the idea and tune came from a poem i had heard one day at an SCA event around a bonfire with Bards singing it.
Twas really good.
Saddened me to find out there are no recordings of this poem in a singsong format. >.< And my singing voice is not that great.

Re: OOC

Sounds good! If Ashling changes her mind and agrees to co-operate in keeping prices high on the Shrouded Isles, Avaria will gladly help snag the Cities of Brass.

Let's set up a tense meeting in the party thread. To avoid unfortunate misunderstandings, I suggest making the first stipulation "no backstabbing until the party is dissolved"!

This is still a God Game and you can, as long as you weave a story with the mortals, try to weave things as you like of course. Go check out Ivalice's last post for the new update: dungeons, treachery, and treasures, oh myyy!

Also, massive thanks to my Co, who has written several of these awesome vignettes for me. They are cool!

And damn it, I thought I had a pass to Shinsekai! Though to be fair, I guess that might not extend to letting Avaria settle down and set up a factory. Hey Jaory, if I write an action where Avaria asks permission to supply the Shrouded Isles war from Shinsekai, can I write that it's with Ra's support, or would he not support that?

Also, what is the status of the large unmarked territory between the NFE and the HTE? I thought pretty much everything was overrun by Mooru & co. except for a few powerful holdouts.

Much of that territory belongs to the various Cities of Brass. Each controls a large territory in addition to the city proper. The size of that territory depends on the city and location. Other than that, the mountains themselves make "owning" territory tougher or in name at best. It should also be noted that while not marked, Invictus is in the northeast as well as Mooru's center of power. Those will be marked in future versions of the map.

Of all the things that could be possible and Ez'ekial wants a one-on-one dual. What are the terms of dual, to the death, honor bound, just for kicks. Details would be lovely. I wish I knew the plan he was formulating as well. Oh well.... Mooru will sort this out. The question is what to do with Ghort on the way, run away or choose a side or just be thorn in both of their sides.

Also tell them the internet guys will be here Monday evening and I should be back Tuesday to get the war grinding in person.
___________________________________________________________________________

There was more colorful language in that text and this is my kid friendly edition. I'm curious myself as to the nature of the dual, sure would help me as now I have to interpret it. I think Ashling may side with Ez'ekial but she could change her mind at any time.

In reply to Jaory (msg # 408):

The duel is one of submission, whoever submits first loses. That of course means that one can surrender at anytime but at the same time if no one submits, then for all intensive purposes it becomes a duel to the death. If she accepts the duel and submits, then Ez'ekial would take her prisoner and her guards would be free to leave. Of course at this point, he would ask for her complete capitulation and surrender of the dual cities, with the gaurentee that her people would be given the freedom to leave unharmed if they so chose.

If Ghort shows up before things are resolved, then everything goes on pause and a temporary olive branch would be handed out until their dealt with.

Avaria:
I'm assuming Ashling is more honorable than that but either way, we're in the tundra and the duel would occur in between our two camps, so there's no room for dastardly and dishonorable tactics like that.

*I* was suppose to give a war of the empires update to the AO to go through last night.  My two students are presenting at a conference next Tuesday, so I am in that 36-48 hour flurry of last minute slides and data analysis.  (It's 10:30 PM where I am right now and I just sent back a version 5 of one of their oral presentations for example).  I apologize for the delay, your update will definitely be coming tomorrow, as they have both gave a dry run today so tomorrow its just smoothing out details.

Alright, updates given for the most part. A few folks should take an opportunity to have a chat in a bar or throne room or something. Nyx, Adrasteia, and Ivalice are all at rh Crossroads and aivaloce needs info the Twins have. Also, Jibrail and Kaiden should share info while Jinrail and Avaria might wanna hash out the deal with the EIC there. I will post for Mooru concerning the Battle of Portals tomorrow, need time to compose.

Re: OOC

As I understand it, it's investment capital and implied government approval of its activities, in return for being able to supervise it and impose the NFE's will through regulation if necessary. Sounds like a fine deal.

Jibrail, how about we make Christophus chairman of the EIC, subject to Avaria as majority shareholder and Jibrail as the de facto emperor?

EDIT: by the way, Ao, could we have some sort of small update on what is happening with Avaria and the NFE's assault on Mooru's hinterland while he's distracted with the HTE? We really ought to be exploiting that!

Sorry, this one really is my fault.

I have had enough time to post in some games, but not the deeply involved ones.

It was midterm season, I had exams to write, exams to grade... numerical methods takes a lot out of me, I feel like I am writing hundreds of programs a week, haha.

BUT... I took leave/vacation surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday, so I have MANY days of R&R starting tomorrow.  While the Ao is getting settled in, I will give the update that I started writing a week and a half ago to keep the game running.

Expect it some time tomorrow.

That is fourteen hours ahead of CST in the States, so 10am in the midwest? I know the time differences are being a pain, but it is easier for me to track this way is all. I recommend using Qlock. Updates coming tomorrow. End of the aeon coming in the next week or so.

What do people want to happen in between aeons this time? We can do another, shorter Age of Mortals? I had an idea centered in the Order of Pure Hearts.

Re: OOC

Another age of mortals would be swell. Perhaps with the choice of a single powerful figure or band of individually less powerful types... I found the small party interactions between the twins very interesting as well as the split of focus between Nyx and Lhadhe... though I can understand if it may complicate the pacing

I could do another age of mortals if you'd like. Maybe we could control certain Orders or groups as well for something different.

I'll edit out the last section to avoid Wrath again....

EDIT: Should look better now. :)

A short Age of Mortals may be interesting, provided there is a guiding plot like the last one had with Mooru, but maintaining a bit of flexibility where everyone changes their path.

On a side note, does anyone else feel this could actually be made into a good rules-lite style game? Lol

Re: OOC

Alright, those updates were rough as hell. So, I am going to call for an end of Aeon vote now. Act 20 will be the last ACT except domain ACts. I will have the table updated tonight when ACT 20 is available as well as adding the Domain ACTs acquired. I need to be able to sit down, take notes, and sort out this mess that Creation is in with a nice long AO post, savvy?

My idea is for the Empire of Raselgas to be the problem. The Age of Mrotals will be set this way. Each of you will pick one of these Orders: The Runic Order, The Order of Pure Hearts, the Men in Black, the Cult of Sunilla, or the Sparrowhawks. You will be controlling a Mortal within this Order.

Here's how it works, we will use the ACTIONs system again. Each god will go to sleep as normal, but their minds will view Creation througha  mortal and they can whisper to that mortal. ALl of you will be DREAMERs, you get that Ability for free. The gods in your minds can communicate in teh Echoes and organize their efforts or not. You will get a 10 ACTIONS for their creation like last time, the first post. After they are all in, I will set the table for the second Age of Mortals. You will get one lump sum of 20 ACTIONS with which to solve the problem of the Raselgas Empire. You can use the tavern 0or echoes to organize as you want, and you can use all your ACTIONS up in one post or space them out. You have 20, no more and no less, to alter events as mortals.

How does that sound?

Re: OOC

Bartimaeans did play a massive role in the last three ages.... Let someone else be in the spotlight. Also, I really just picked the 5 orders born this Aeon, kinda.

The table is up to date and whether you have a domain ACT, currently, is listed. You who do not are an ACT or two short of obtaining it if you want to consider that for your last two regular ACTs. Those that have domain ACTs, remember that they must be ACTs within your domain.

Updates later today or tomorrow.

Re: OOC

Alright, all ACTs are in an accounted for. I will draft the end of the Aeon this week, so take some time to draft your opening post for the next Age Of Mortals which will go up Friday, maybe earlier. However long it takes me to write them. Think about how to use ten ACTIONs to create your characters. I picked races at random from likely lists.

Here is the quick list:
A'aron of the Order of the Pure Heart is a D'warf male. He starts is the Castle.
Alin of the Men in Black is a Elf female. She starts on Shinsekai.
Braxton of the Runic Order is a human male. He starts in Ame-Iku.
D'argoh of the Order of the Pure Heart is a Ram Tribe Female. She starts is Ivalton.
Dragos of the Runic Order is a human male. He starts in Ame-Iku.
Hadley of the Cult of Sunilla is a Silesian female. She starts in  Hordris.
Jeoard of the Sparrowhawks is an Arwa female. She starts in Draviina.
Maximus of the Men in Black is an Alexandran Male. He starts in Draviina.

Object if you want or roll with it! Should be fun!

Small change. Can everyone send me a OM with their proposed first ten ACTIONs? These are the ones that determine what SKILLS and TRAITS your advisees will have. Fair warning, a good post and set of ACTIONs with lots of description may get gifts from me!

You can just post them here in PMs so everyone sees who has done it but not what they have done. I have started crafting the change over between Aeon and Age and am on schedule to have it up Friday!

Re: OOC

No, those were defined in the last Aeon. You can dedcribe your character's tricks though. Swhat is his keybkepades power, what fire tricks can he do with hus rune, what weapons does your man in black have and what does his mask look like, etc. ACTIONS are to define your character's specific goals like sorcery, thamauturgy, martial prowess, has the submarine, companioncs and such. Reread the ACTION rules to know what all must be defined.

Sorry, I meant whether or not we needed to, for example, have a Sparrowhawk specify her mechnical prowess or whether we could assume that since she was a Sparrowhawk...

Re-reading between the lines of your response here, I imagine the answer is Yes - if nothing else than to clarify the specifics :)

Re: OOC

Yes, if you are a Sparrowhawk then you have a mechanical aptitude and a high intellect. What you might not have are specific aptitudes for certain technologies like Arkanik or Electric. Have they been to a Lhadean Shrine yet and built their mini-byakaryu? Are they also tapped into the Whisperweb?

Each character has the base apptitudes and equipment associated with their orders: OoPH have a keyblade, Men in Black have their masks and are excellent hunters, Runic ORder guys have a runic and a lot of potential.

Caveat, you will not be the head of your orders...

Re: OOC

New age is up, please copy/paste your creation ACTIONS first then think about your allotment of ACTIONS. Remember, you have exactly 20 ACTIONS to do what you want to do. You can use them all or one at a time. It is up to you. You can use the Party Chat to discuss working in tandem. It is all up to you, but each individual post will get a result from me. However, creative laying out of contingencies and such is fine.

Please remember the availability of using ACTIONs to gain knowledge or ask questions. Review the ACTIONs rules for more.., Good luck not destroying the world!

Feeling a bit whelmed here.

Alright, I am going to maintain the inactivity here for a bit as far as IC goes. I am going to work on finishing some of the world information, backdrop, writing that is missing and so much more record keeping that is wanting here slowly. Eventually, I think I might just try to use the setting in a game. I want to explore this world so much more and it is so robust and, and, and awesome!

 Right?

In the meantime, I recently watched a terrible movie version of the first Dragonlance novel. I mean, it was terrible! Any way, ti got me thinking about Michelle Tracktenburg's butt and dragons, so I reignited a previous game of mine. It is a nation builder in a world with "dragons." It will open shortly here and you guys are all invited to come over and try world building with me a bit more if you like. I'll come back to this game in time, too. My muse for it is just being a bit flighty at the moment! Y'all can sympathize I am sure.

I'm up for it. I've been looking for a god game, and almost got desperate enough to host one myself, but this seems like it could scratch that itch.

One thing about the rules that's a bit unclear - with all the talk about separate threads and not using metagame information, there's still diplomacy, right? Like, the tribes can share secret information and act on that information if they do so IC, can't they? Without meaningful diplomacy, it'd get pretty dull!
