Chapter 0: O'Malley's
Chapter A: We're Gettin' the Band, of Adventurers, Back Together.

Although you have found work as an adventurer up to this point there are only so many jobs in small towns.  You recently made the trip to the city of Valarez (or maybe you've always been here).  This metropolis is home to millions of citizens.  Rumors have been flowing about the strange circumstance of the recent city-state's population boom and new king.  Formerly ruled by a council led by Queen Mina, the king has now been added to the council.

The old citizens are calling the event the grand exodus and none of the new residents are talking about why they left home.  However, since their arrival the mountains to the west have begun producing a strange rock the king refers to as shadowrock.  Also, the woods to the east have started to turn a sickly amber at the center.  Did the newcomers bring these strange happenings with them or is this what they're running from?

Valarez is a grand city you would love to explore, but you're here for fame and treasure.  Exploring the city can wait.  Others have spoke of an inn called O'Malley's in the southern third, over Commons Bridge.  In the morning you make your way there.

Inn is an understatement.  The majority of this district, although small by measure of some others, is taken up by a single structure.  This enormous building is comprised of many interconnected buildings and reaches six or seven stories in some places.  Other adventuring types head for a set of large wooden doors near Commons Bridge.

The doors lead into a large stable where many horses and even a few unusual mounts are being kept.  Walking through you spot elephants, camels, large lizards, and possibly even a young copper dragon in the back.  At the other end of the stables you exit an identical set of doors which open into a large outdoor area.  Dozens of adventurers wait outside, some practicing swordplay, others minor magical tricks, and some seem to be waiting for the rest of their groups.  The largest of the sections of the huge structure with at least seven stories has a sign above the doors.

O'Malley's

You enter and are greeted by the legend himself.

Re: Chapter 1: O'Malley's
"Welcome friends!  My name is O'Malley.  Gather round real quick and I'll explain things for the new ones, fresh-faced or otherwise."  O'Malley nods towards a particularly battle hardened half-orc in the corner.  The half-orc flips O'malley the finger and both share a silent chuckle.

"If it's work you're looking for I'll explain that part in a moment.  The dueling pit and betting have been moved since our relocation.  There is currently no basement, I hope that will change in the near future.  Upstairs are the expensive rooms.  I'd love for you to stay there, provided you have the coin that is.  The top floors house our private workstations, labs, forges, and libraries.  You could head into town for all that but why deal with the hassle when you could rent ours."

"Work then.  This floor is for eating, drinking, and obtaining work.  On the bar you'll see four small wooden boxes."  O'Malley gestures at the bar in front of him.  "Each box contains a different color of yarn strings.  If you make your coin by risking your body and your sword you'll want a blue string.  Combat casters take red.  Support casters take white.  That leaves those who specialize in certain skills and abilities.  All you sneaky and socially skilled folks grab a black string.  Tie the string around your wrist like a bracelet and find a seat.  Hopefully spend a few silver on some drinks and wait.  Those who need certain skills will find someone with the appropriate colored string.  Everything that happens between you and your employer is your business and does not affect my business.  Clear?  Good."

A black-haired woman with strange markings on her face walks up to the bar and grabs a blue string.  A fox follows behind her.

Re: Chapter 1: O'Malley's
The woman sits down at a table, looks at the fox and holds up six fingers.  The fox turns around and exits O'Malley's.

The woman reaches in a pouch at her belt and pulls out a small gray creature with spiked fur.  She sets it on the table and holds up one finger.

10:40, Fri 01 Aug 2014: Velkarah rolled 21 using 1d20+9 ((12)).

The animal begins a funny little dance and several patrons cheer and clap along.  O'Malley rolls his eyes and shrugs.
