Temple: Temple of the Mercurial Dragon
Making your way through the market district you head east toward the Temple of the Mercurial Dragon.  The temple is a marvel of architecture and engineering.  The main structure of the building is as realistic a sculpture of a dragon as you have ever seen.  The material is bright shining metal, very much like solid mercury, but with streaks and swirls of gold and bronze here and there.  Various pillars and extra rooms have been built up around the main structure over the years.  The entrance to the temple is through the wide open mouth of the dragon laying it's head on the ground.

Stray entered the temple, immediately looking for either the adventurers he sought... if he was particularly lucky, that is... or, barring that, a priest or servant he could speak with about them.

No adventurers stick out in here.  Several priests are present however.  Stray recognizes their orderly and militaristic dress.  One of the priests approaches Stray as he enters the temple.  "Lad, have you come to explore what the Mercurial Dragon has to offer you?  If you have no home left to go back to we do offer squire training for select individuals."  The priest stands tall with his shoulders pushed back, arms joined behind his back.

Stray resisted the urge to laugh at the priest's offer of squire training, instead simply shaking his head.  "I am here on errand," he said simply, "seeking some adventurers who would have come here recently."  He provided the priest with the names and descriptions Velkarah had given him.

"By any chance, are these adventurers still here, or do you know where they might have gone?"

"The people you seek have been to the temple.  This morning they came looking for Lt. Rast.  I if recall correctly they were in the process of locating some adventuring companions who had been with the lieutenant.  They asked his whereabouts as he had not been to the temple.  I instructed them to check the barracks or the prison.  They left at this suggestion.  Logically, I assume they would check the barracks first, then the prison."

As Stray is speaking to the priest he catches something out of the corner of his vision.  Another boy he knows from the shop comes in but waits by the entrance.  The other boys called him Lucky on account of his brush with death a few weeks ago.  He had unwittingly offended councilman Mud, who was about to take out his frustration on the boy when councilwoman Kezra intervened.

He bowed to the priest and thanked him for the information, leaving with Lucky latching onto his wake and following him out.

"I've a job for you," he said quietly, going over the list of adventurers that the tiefling provided him.  "Head to the barracks, ask to speak with Lieutenant Gray or Guardsman Jonne, let them know I sent you and see what information you can find."

He paused a moment, thinking.  "On your way, stop by the shop and have one of the boys play our eyes at O'Malley's.  Probably Silent, don't need anyone worrying about things not their business.  I'll head to the prison, see what I can find there.  If you find them, send them to Velkarah and find me.  If you hear anything, or Silent finds them, find me at the prison."

"Right.  Just to keep you up, there was an explosion at the prison.  They claims a failed breakout.  Too much arguing among Rast and Grey to be true."  Lucky winks and heads off.

Chapter B

A dwarven priest stands at attention near the entrance awaiting visitors to the temple.  He spots Karon, Malgrom, Vun, Derrik, and Aeos but says nothing, staying at attention.

Karon sports minor cuts and abrasions. Malgrom and Derrick both took major blows in the fight thay have not yet been treated. Yet In this state, they come to the Temple. Karon hands over the coin/medallion given to him and states to the Priest "Cordule said you could help. These two were wounded and contracted the skin oil from a hypnotoad. It affected them to love the toad, which still lives."

Malgrom tries not to stare as he takes in the interior of the Temple. For as long as he had been in the city, he had yet to see the inside of the Temple. He takes a break from looking around to glance at Karon and repeat his earlier opinion, "It was a nice toad."

"Yes sir."  The priest stays at attention.  "We have an standing agreement with the guard to treat in advance and be compensated at a later date.  This coin is all you need present for services.  I will have a priest look at each of you."  He calls out to several others in a commanding voice.  The priests stride over and each begins to evaluate the members of the group.  Before looking over Karon the priest in charge takes the coin and places it in a pouch at his side.

"What kind of toad was this?  Can you explain exactly what happened?"
The priest assessing Karon asks to anyone who wishes to answer.

"We encountered a group of cultists as well as some oozes and a large creature looking to be a mix between a toad and a horrid lizard. Whatever substance the Toad creature excreted seemed to make the victims adore and worship the beast. I'll admit our knowledge is far from complete on this, but we have figured out that the creature if was an animal, is no longer one, as my attempts to enchant it as if it was an animal were completely ignored."

Vun made an attempt to recount what happened in detail, although he likely missed something.

"The oozes were Tar jellies. The toad is an aberration, much like a beholder or an aboleth. Which is probably why a spell tuned to animals didn't work, Vun. It has a technical name I do not recall, but in my studies it was referred to as a hypnotoad. It spit a yellowish goo on Derrik and Malgrom. No doubt there is still some traces of it on their armors. Examining those samples might help you cure them of their enchantment" Karon adds.

The priest examining Malgrom takes a vial and scoops some remnants of goo from a gap in his armor.  Holding the substance up to the light all of the priests gather around to get a better look.  After several minutes of discussion they come to a consensus.  "We believe this substance has compulsory magic.  We will need to break the enchantment, but there may be some prolonged effects.  All of your injuries seem to be basic.  We can use some low intensity healing magic to help mend the wounds."  Each of the priests proceeds to weave their divine magic through the wounds of the group.  Cuts slowly close and bruises fade.

"The situation with the toad seems strange.  I have heard of such mutations in the wild, but the substance the creature excretes suggests a purposeful creation through magic."

"It bears investigation. There are many things I can not explain happening in Valarez, and this... glorious toad is a good subject to track down."

Aeos looks at Flynn and begins to think what measures could be taken.

"The toad fled down the passageway after I wounded it. So we will likely encounter it again. Can you recommend anything like an antitoxin that might provide us some measure of protection from this psychotropic substance?" Karon asks as his physical wounds heal over.

Re: Temple: Temple of the Mercurial Dragon
"We can provide an antitoxin that will help to resist the effects, but it is not a guaranteed solution.  The guard's agreement does not cover the cost of this though, you would need to donate extra to acquire the antitoxin."

The priests finish up healing injuries and turn their attentions to breaking the effect the toad has over Malgrom and Derrik.  They begin to chant together forming a circle around the two adventurers.  The verbal components to the spell are chanted in unison until the spell is completed and the circle is broken.

With their business completed at the temple the group may finish their conversation and then head back to O'Malley's to locate Harsk.

"Gentlemen, I will take Flynn, I know an apothecary, perhaps he can determine some element or clue as to the mutation of this toad.

I will need a sample
."

Aeos will ask for a small vial and collect some of the liquid from Flynn or from whomever has the substance still on them.

One of the priests hands Aeos a vial of goo.  "We no longer have a need for it."

The priest in charge nods to Karon.  "Fifty would be appreciated.  It does take gold to keep the temple running.  How much antitoxin do you need?  We have some on hand.  A larger quantity would require us to create more."
