Adventures In Space

A long time ago in an RPG far, far away, I came up with a list of potential adventures. I culled through many a sci-fi RPG to come up with this list. I'm making no claims as to its completeness, nor to the viability of the entries. I was just trying to cover as many bases as I could think of.

Anyway, I'm presenting it here in case there are some ideas that you may not have thought of.

I'd say, if you want, just go ahead and list a few that floats your boat, or even list any that you would absolutely NOT LIKE.

I considered offering a brief explanation for each one, but they are really meant as 'buzz words' or idea prompts.

Adventures In Space

In reply to StarMaster (msg # 1):

Some more to offer

Crash
Survival

AS for ones to avoid - Sam would not be keen that are designed to hurt sophonts eg Assasination, etc as their main aim, but is probably willing to skate close to the wind legally on most other things. Her background in Space Patrol might help us in that respect (lets just say we want to avoid any imperial entanglements...)

That´s funny, I like it.

Pretty much the same when it concerns hurting sophonts eg Assasination, etc...

One thing that Darrell probably wouldn´t really go for...anything against the best interests of the Imperium, at least in the larger sense. Not trying to be the paladin in a possible orc interrogation, but, yea he´s one of the nobles that actually believes in nobility obligations.

Samantha Kilgore:
Crash
Survival

After all the time we've taken picking a ship, THOSE are the first things that come to mind? ;)

  **

Kaengarr's expertise is as a free trader and that's likely to be his first interest, but he won't mind trying something new and different (and exciting) if it's on offer and everyone is game.

He's not an Imperial citizen and doesn't care one way or the other about the Imperium as such. Nevertheless, he doesn't want to end up on the wrong side of Imperial (or other) law for practical reasons, and he'd also be sensitive to the fact that some of the others do feel a personal connection to the Imperium... as long as that doesn't involve anti-Vargr activities!

Re: Adventures In Space

Most Walter would not be a fan of like assaults/banditry/piracy so the list has been culled down a bit.

Re: Adventures In Space

Things like "Assault (target)" or "Bounty-Hunt" would be okay in Kaengarr's estimation if they're part of some legitimate operation and are within the group's capabilities. Really, he's less worried about the potential violence than the potential to land them in prison (or worse) afterward.

He has enough experience as a trader and enough understanding of different societies to understand that you have to operate by different rules in different places. What counts as "legitimate" is far broader in the Extents than it is in or near Imperial space. :)

The only ones I'd completely write off in his case are those that are pretty much illegitimate by definition (Banditry, Rackeeteering, Terrorism, etc), lean too heavily on a non-Vargr mindset (Crusade/Jihad), or go against species loyalty (anti-Vargr activities in general).

While he isn't necessarily afraid of personal-scale violence (it's an occupational hazard), he's not too fond of mass-scale violence, so something like Rioting probably isn't on the cards either. Likewise, having their ship take part in a naval action or two is okay if the payoff/survival rate is worth it but an extended period of organized warfare probably isn't.

Re: Adventures In Space

Straight out piracy would be a bit out of character for Khea, but depending on how you sell it privateering would be ok. She has started as a trader and a mechanic besides, but she is also out to prove herself which can include taking "male" roles, just to show she can.

In the end she would probably agree to everything the Count is doing as she wants to get into the "promised land" (=Imperium).

Re: Adventures In Space

One man's terrorist is another man's revolutionary.... sometimes.  Other times, the guy is just an appletart.  Sharik isn't really into black ops and wetworks, either.  She is fine with some grey work - breaking and entering or other information retrieval (obviously, lest she wouldn't have participated in the Shenarra job); she would consider those 'odd jobs' really.  And she is pretty much fine with the pared down list that others have proposed.

Honestly, I find that space and planetary exploration can be dangerous enough without too much direct sophont interference (The Martian anyone?  I consumed that book in less than 24 hours.  God, I can't wait for that movie to come out ...).  Though I am fine with some intrigue and interaction as well.

Oh, and Shar is a pretty good grav-cycle racer; so, with three nobles, if we want to jet-set a bit and run around on that circuit we can do that as well!

If Shar can spin a job as being on the right side of the law (or justice or even just proper comeuppance), even if the group is acting outside of the law (you know, all A-team like), then all the better.

Trading is fine as a sideline, though boring as a campaign staple.  It is an excellent background thread (which could bleed sometimes into the forefront); MgT rules are geared towards a Broker/4 with a high INT/EDU DM (like Walter) to make some serious money (like as we've simulated 80% profit margins without regional modifiers ... though as in real life, it takes money to make money ...).  That should be fine as long as it funds other more fun stuff.

Sharik is less interested in doing a let's create an interstellar conglomerate - though if that is the will of the group then she can help with that, I guess.

As for ship's crew.  She's got dibs on the Astrogator/Navigator's console!
