OOC - ROFLMAO! I almost passed out laughing so hard God I love this game!

Sylvester goes to Engineering to see if he can be of any help to Kheaiftouaw on the jump or maneuver drives or even the power plant which he didn't know as well but was ready to learn more about. Especially on this hybrid ship!

Re: Destination: Cassandra Belt

"Don't you get philosophical with me. Thats something men do when they have nothing to do while we handle all important tasks.

But as you asked, we have no predetermined fate, but aokol, moments when you are completely in sync with the universe and can perform a single action with total clarity.

But that is normally a good thing, so if you have an aokol its the worst in recorded history. Rather you seem to have the opposite.

Looking down to the obviously stressed out Vargr she adds
"If it helps thinning out the applicants, tell them I eat those that perform badly. Lets see how many know that we Aslan don't do that anymore. Well, most of us at least."

Reese Hardsimm:
Hearing the Noble's plans were going awry, Reese decided to take a chance.

"Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt but I couldn't help but overhear. It sounds like your ship may be in need of a medic? I've been acting ships Doctor on three ships in the past, and I happen to be looking for work." Reese proffers his hand and says "Reese Hardsimm, at your service."

Sir Walter held up a hand for a second. "If you wait outside please, it would be rude for me to conduct ships business in another company's store." he said, short and to the point.

Once business was finished, "Sorry about that. Now while I understand your zeal to find employment, that to me is the same as a drug rep trying to sell you something while you are operating on a patient if the roles were reversed. This is Sharik Kaagira, Chief Astrogator. I am Doctor Sir Walter Zeller, (Doctor of Galactic Trade), Broker and Chief Paper pusher." Sir Walter said as he made introductions.

"Now, you say you are a medic and have acted as a ships doctor? That is all well and good. I would suggest however, that you speak to the Captain first. Once Captain Vonon tells me that he is considering hiring you, then I will review your credentials and give him my input. If there is any indication of the sudden influx of crew members, if you are hired, you will most likely have to double bunk as room is tight. I can tell you right now though, we have two Auto-docs in sick bay and about half the crew know what buttons that need to be pushed to get it to work, myself included. And to add to that equation, we have an Aslan Chief Engineer and the Captain is a Vargr, so that might be something to consider in your application." Sir Walter said, glad to be back on the administrative side and not acting as the Captain.

Re: Destination: Cassandra Belt

Reese’s eyes narrow slightly as he is curtly dismissed and his hand is ignored. “Forgive me for offering an alternative to being extorted by the poorly stocked robotics store. Clearly I was mistaken.”

Reese does not wait outside for the noble, instead continuing to the docks. ~Nobles and barking Vargr, that’s two things I’ve had my fill of..~  Reese imagines The Longshot with a motley crew of burly spacers. ~Maybe a step back towards the pirate ships but more reputable, that’s what I need..~

In reply to Kheaiftouaw (msg # 352):

Vonon listens to Khea, his apparent disquiet seeming to fade as she speaks--in fact, he is about to inform Khea that he already tells applicants that they are subject to being eaten by her, when the ship's intercom chimes, followed by an unfamiliar voice.

Marcus Fallin:
"Capt. Marcus Fallin, requesting permission to come aboard."

Vonon's ears fall back, laying flat to his head, and his eyes narrow.

"Oh, good." Vonon says to Khea,

"It looks like I've hired a new Ship's Captain--about whom I know nothing--and he's now reporting for duty!" Vonon snarls, "I am so pissed, right now, I think I may let him have the damn job--but only if he fights me for it!  I really need to rip somebody a new dermis!"

OOC:
Stateroom Assignments:
This is where we are, now, on Stateroom Assignments.  Some of you have been moved, so check this carefully--double check against the map I posted in the "Travellers Aid Society, Too" thread, if you need to.

(starb'd) 10-j: Pablo Esteban Ryzov, Ship Security & Gunner
(port) 10-k: Serge Baklanov, Ship Security & Gunner
Still Unassigned-- Marcus Fallin, Reese Hardsimm, and Montgomery Ashburn (but I'm working on it!)

Valeska, expect a PM from me concerning your Quarters.
StarMaster, expect a PM from me concerning NPC Abuse--I wanna do some.

Evelyn Darque--Congratulations!  Cap'n Vonon is not going to send you a PM--he's gonna mess with you right here, IN PUBLIC!  Yay...
So, Evelyn, in reviewing your "resume" (i.e., looking over your Skill List) I have decided that the perfect position for you aboard this ship is not as a Human Duct Cleaner, but instead you appear to be able to perform much more significant skills--skills which are of much more value than just letting you scuttle around in our air system.

Evelyn Darque, effective immediately, you are promoted to the position of Ship's Steward--as such you will also be Sir Walter's assistant in his roles as Ship's Purser and Ship's Cargomaster.  As your first act as Ship's Steward, I'm telling you to go to Sir Walter and tell him to purchase for your use a Utility Droid programmed as a Cook for use in the Galley--two Cooks, if he can find them cheap enough.  I strongly suggest you do this quickly, or else you will be running the Galley, come supper time.

Also instruct him to purchase for your use another Utility Droid--or two, again, if cheap enough--programmed for Housekeeping Duties.  Unless you want to do all the laundry.  It's your choice, perform this job as a Supervisor of robots, or do all the dirty work yourself.

You can inform Sir Walter that The Captain ordered you, to tell him, to do this.  He should charge it to the Ship Operations Account, as The Droids He Will Be Looking For will become property of the ship.

Re: Destination: Cassandra Belt

As Reese works his way towards the docks he thinks again.. ~Wait, what was the name of the guy I need to talk to on the ship?~ He pulls up the advert and stops dead in his tracks..

Independent Armed Freighter Longshot
Departs for Planet Invermory, Confederation of Duncinae
Time: (counting down from 72 hours) Hours
Interested Shippers should contact Sir Walter Zeller, Ship's Trader

Reese's shoulders slump. ~Well Frack! I have to deal with THAT guy!~ Reese trudges back to the robotics shop and waits outside for Sir Walter to finish his business.

~I guess it could be worse. Could have to deal with a Vargr..~ he thinks as Sir Walter comes out of the shop.

Sir Walter said
quote:
"Sorry about that.

Sir Walter said, glad to be back on the administrative side and not acting as the Captain.

~I SHOULD HAVE FIGURED! A VARGR CAPTAIN!~ With a deep breath to center himself, Reese speaks. "Thank you for the information Sir Zeller. I was actually just on my way to the Longshot after having read the posted ad looking for interested shippers when I stopped in the robotics shop on a whim. I now realize it was you that was listed as the person to contact. As I'm looking for work instead of a ship to carry cargo, I will do as you suggest and seek out the captain."

Reese adds as he starts to move away "And I won't insult your intelligence by pointing out the obvious advantages of an experienced sophant medical expert over a pair of auto-docs. Until we meet again, good day." He took some small satisfaction from backhandedly acknowledging and dismissing Sir Walter's second greatest insult to him in their brief pair of encounters and headed directly to the docks.

Re: Destination: Cassandra Belt

Sharik stifled a chuckle as the fembot was proffered and then tried to solicit Sir Walter herself.  A noncomittal smile played on her lips.  One that was only broken by the exchange between there the unemployed doctor and the harried broker; the exchanged caused Shar's expression to darken slightly, a raised eyebrow thrown Zeller's way as an interogative concerning his tone in dealing with the prospective medic.

But before she could say anything, the man excused himself.  Shar watched him leave the store, before muttering softly, "That went well..."  It did make her wonder about the man's bedside manner.  That and Vo's sanity; Walter sending another hiring prospect to the Captain had the potential to not go over well.

But then the diminutive astrogator shrugged lightly and then kibitzed playfully with her mercantile companion, "Sir Walter, I never knew that you were into dolls!"  The fembot would certainly turn heads, even once they got an acceptable level of clothing on the thing.  The fembot was anatomically correct; Sharik would give the designers that.  She'd never considered herself a prude - and the bot was pretty enough, but Shar had never understood how tape was a fashion statement.

She waited for both the salesperson and the robot herself to respond to Walter's request for more information; the price discrepancy required some resolution.  But since she didn't necessarily have the cash to splash it was no skin off of her back.  Still, the information would be insightful.  Besides, the cosmopolitan socialite found watching Sir Walter work fascinating.

~Zeller said I might have to double bunk if I'm hired on.. Maybe I can purchase a housing module and keep it in the cargobay?~ Reese thinks as he arrives at the docks.

Checking first with the dock master interface, Reese made his way to the docking bay for the Longshot. Once he arrived Reese tapped his comdot and said "Rockport Comm Central, please connect me with the Longshot, re: medical services."

While Reese waited for his call to go through he gave the area a once-over (OOC: Roll 4 + 3 (+2Recon) (+2Int) = 11), determining that someone had recently loaded several cargo crates to the ship.

[OUTSIDE IAF LONGSHOT FORWARD AIRLOCK]
Marcus Fallin:
Marcus approached the ship, eyeing it with a discerning glance. It wasn't the type traders one found out here, but it looked spaceworthy enough. Hopefully the rumors he had heard were true, as the ship's name seemed to match his chances of finding employment. Longshot.

Reaching the boarding ramp, Marcus announces himself, "Capt. Marcus Fallin, requesting permission to come aboard."

Several seconds pass before the exterior airlock intercom activates, and a (probably) male voice speaking Imperial Anglic with the same accent that Marcus has been hearing around Rockport, responds--the voice even has the slight 'growly' quality that Marcus has been hearing from the local Vargr he's encountered.

While I was not informed as to what type of crew were being sought, I have many years experience in the Merchant Fleets, and have a wide array of skills that would be helpful. If this is not a convenient time, I can present myself later," he adds, hopeful that this trip wasn't wasted.

Who says 'Merchie'?  Only Navy Men and Port Cops call the Merchant Marine 'Merchies'...

Re: Destination: Cassandra Belt

Short of converting some of the cargo bays into more staterooms, or doubling up the existing staterooms (standard procedure on the military ship that this once was), the following adjustments are being instituted on Longshot:

Pablo has agreed to 'camp out' in the dorsal gun turret. He's spent years living in a small space during his military career, so he's a bit uncomfortable with all that space in a stateroom.

Valeska, as the resident scientist, is being set up in the geology lab down on Deck 3. That suits her just fine, not because she's unsocial, but she just wants to spend more time dealing with the lab. When she gets focused on something, she's apt to just nap there anyway.

Evelyn, who really is unsociable though not really by choice, is being assigned to the Engineering Compartment. According to her, she sleeps on the engines anyway. She's almost as uncomfortable in a stateroom as Pablo, just for a different reason.

As the only 'qualified' drone operator, Horatio is being billeted in the Remote Ops control room. This is mostly because there isn't much call for the mining drones or the repair drones under normal ship operations.

Horatio and Valeska will have to share use of the common Fresher on Deck 3.

These can be temporary arrangements if anyone is unhappy with them. This does not mean that you are confined to quarters! Everyone still eats in the mess hall and can use the Rec Room.

Most of you will be expected to pull duty on the bridge during some of the off-shifts.
