     "Now?  It's a little late in the afternoon, Jack.  Sir Walter has already left for the TAS hotel....but I suppose I could call him back.  Sounds like you're in a business meeting--just how critical is this meeting, Jack?"

The Operetta was a good one, the music and singing were excellent. Sylvester was very cultured though Val didn't expect that. After a light meal they headed back to the ship for a night cap.

When the comm buzzed, Walter had just finished getting checked in and had flipped on the local trading network to see what was available when he activated his comms.

COMM START >>>Hello Vonon. So you are saying that there might be a business opportunity for the stuff we found? Jack seems to be the eager beaver. I do hope that he did not mention the stuff we are not selling. Cocktails might have to wait. Tell you what, I am not sure who is still aboard but if Doc is there, please bring him with you to help with the medical aspect. Order up a limo and grab me before you head over to the meeting would my suggestion.<<< COMM END Walter said as he started to check into pharmaceuticals to get an idea on what they might be worth.

Inderpal opens the door and finds two human massage therapists waiting for them. They're professional, proper therapists, not the euphemistic kind.

They've brought two massage tables with them along with all the appropriate oils, towels, etc. She lets them direct her and conduct the massage.

"This is the secure conference room for such meetings," Idina replies to Jack. "I have no problem waiting for your friends."

"Would you like some refreshments? A drink, perhaps?"

Idina gets up and goes over to a section of wall from which a large drawer suddenly emerges. She lifts the top of it to a vertical position, revealing an assortment of drinks and glassware within.

She pours herself a drink while she waits for Jack's response. He can see it's from a bottle of Steranko Redeye Whiskey. Over ice.

About ten minutes later, the door opens and someone Jack doesn't recognize walks in. She gives Jack a glance then nods to Idina.

"Not Redeye again?" she questions Idina mockingly.

"Always, and you'll have the same," Idina replies as she pours Magda a drink.

"Magda Kirkonen, Jack Blackwood. Jack, Magda. We're expecting his Captain. Apparently he was on a fact-finding mission. They found an old Iltharan facility on Coventry. A bunch of relics, if you are interested in them. As I understand it, it's the stuff they aren't selling that brings them here."

You have to wait another 20 minutes before Walter, Vonon, and Reese arrive. Idina informs Jack when they do, and he takes the elevator back down to meet them.

Once they are all in the elevator, the door closes and the elevator rises up to the 9th floor--the last button on the control panel... and then goes up one more level.

The elevator doors open to a short hallway with double doors at the end. Jack leads you down to them, pushes them open into a conference room with a table and a dozen chairs around it. Two women are waiting, sitting at the table.

     Vonon moves to stand next to a chair, at the table, but doesn't sit.  When Jack had called, Vonon had not yet changed from the outfit of a long-sleeved, silky shirt of fluorescent plum, over  teal lederhosen and black spaceboots.  Without waiting for Jack to make introductions, Vonon sweeps his black captain's cap from his head, and makes a little bow towards the ladies.

     "Greetings.  I'm Vonon Ronkunu, Captain of the Independent Armed Freighter, Longshot." he says, then gestures towards Walter,

     "Allow me to make known to you our Man of Business, Sir Walter Zeller, Knight of The Imperium."

     "And Jack Blackwood you, of course, already know."

     Vonon then seats himself, without invitation, and drops his hat on the table, in front of himself.

     "Our company recently came into possession of the technical specifications--the formulas--for a variety of very...specialized...pharmaceuticals.  While our interest in these pharmaceuticals is of a commercial nature, I gave Jack, here, instructions to locate people who would responsibly research and develop them.  People who felt as strongly as I do about getting these pharmaceuticals out to people who needed them, who would benefit from them, over any desire for monetary renumer...remoony...aw, hell..."

     Stumbling over his own words, Vonon stops speaking, then simply glares at the two women, and growls,

     "Folks who cared more about helping people, than making money!  Is that you two?"

Sir Walter enter to room, dressed as he usually was, ready for business. Taking a seat at the table, he made his introductions to the others.

"To a certain point Captain Vonon, or I will have to wash your mouth out with soap. Very few businesses exist by giving things way unless they are getting a huge tax break for it." Walter said with a smile.

"As for the formulas, they may have already been superseded by other ways of compounding them but sometimes the old medications might have an ingredient that was more effective but was removed due to cost most of the time. I leave it to the scientists for that."

"Jack, do you want to bring us up to speed?" he asked

"Well lets see. We discovered MANY formulas of Itharian medicines. They all need to be verified as to what they do and to see if they are viable to put on the market. Some I must say would be unique... very unique" says Jack to the group

When the Operetta was over, Sylvester walked Val home, holding her hand or around her waist. When they got back to the ship, outside, he kissed her on the lips and then walked her to her room for a night cap. After their drink he held her and hoped she would invite him to stay, He was falling in love he thought, maybe hard, maybe not. Time would tell.

"We found a journal that gave us some indication of what they all were. There were some Psi drugs, some bio-boosters, some health boosters, and some combat drugs."

"What we need is someone who can analyze the drugs to see if they can be reproduced. Manufacturing and distribution would be up to you, though we're hoping to get a couple of... 'samples' out of the deal."

After Tescha decided on what he thought was reasonable to sell on Invermory, he set a reserve on those items. The rest weren't even presented to the auction house--no one else needed to know what the Longshot had in its cargo hold.

The auction took place in the afternoon, at 4pm. While there were a lot of people at the auction, about 50% of the items sold via comms.

Sir Walter listened to Dr. Harsimm and nodded before turning his attention to the head of R&D.  "Ms. Kirkonen, what would be a rough estimate on the initial outlay to get things started, prioritizing the items that would be quicker to get on to market?" he asked.

Inderpal attends the auction remotely under a pseudonym while at the spa. She doesn't buy any of the items herself; she isn't sure what she would do with any of them, but she does put in a couple of bids to help drive up the price of some lesser items.

Then she has a swim with Sharik.

     "We located a lost research base, found a bunch of stored drug samples and some observations about what they were trying to do, and now we want to assess the commercial viability of those formulas--that's what I said!"

     Vonon turns his attention back to the two women on the other side of the table,

     "Isn't it?"

     "So, I'm okay with this deal being a long-term investment--maybe not seeing any profits for a year-or-so, maybe longer.  In fact, ideally, I'd just as soon hand all of this over to all of you--with proper legal protection of our interests, of course--and leave all the development to you.  I'm just looking for a monthly check....and some peace-of-mind that all of these drugs are being distributed responsibly.  Nothing complicated."

     Vonon turns to Walter,

     "Does that sound like an acceptable business plan, Sir Walter?  I mean, can we just give over the samples and what notes we have about them, and, maybe--I dunno--a Quarter-Mil investment capital, and they sign a contract that, once production starts on any of it, we get a percentage?  Or have I missed something important, here?"

"Kind of what I was thinking, more of a long term investment due to the time to research it and make sure there are no harmful side effects." Sir Walter said. "But the question of investment might be more in "megacredits" and through Longshot Enterprises, say for 25% of the profits." he added.

     "All my experience with project budgets comes from being a Civil Servant, in a past life.  If you say we have that kinda money, I'm willing to spend it.  So...are you sure twenty-five percent, for us, is enough?"
