Re: Destination: Coventry
In reply to Jack Blackwood (msg # 79):
The ship was now over the mountains--to the Guardship, above, it should look like they were running away from the sudden appearance of the 'flying resident'--so now it was time to foster the illusion that they were, just now, 'accidentally' spotting those ruins...
"Okay, Indy, transfer that call to my station, here." Vonon says, as he leans forward in his command chair--he clears his throat, before pressing the button and activating the microphone in his console.
"Confederation Guardship! Confederation Guardship!" Vonon suddenly growls at the mic, sounding stressed out, "This is Captain Ronkunu of the Longshot! Captain Lantrell, your prizz--I mean, your residents have aircraft, dammit!"
Vonon pauses a moment, rolling his eyes,
"Well...okay...it was just a hang-glider, but still! We had no idea! We weren't scanning for anything approaching by air!" Vonon had been raising his voice until he was now shouting, "It would have been frelling nice if you'd warned us they could drop down out of the frelling sky! Especially since, if we hadn't seen them before they'd actually done that, you'd have started shooting at us, the moment they landed next to our ship!"
"Anything else you forgot to tell us, Captain?" Vonon continues, "Like, maybe they got aerospace interceptor fighters to chase after us with? Or maybe they got surface-to--KLONO'S HAIRY ASS!! WHAT THE FRACK IS THAT?!!"
The microphone still open, Vonon has to pause a moment, to stop himself from giggling,
"Uh...are those buildings, down there?" He manages to get out in a choked voice, "Sensors, gimme a full scan of those structures, there! Comms! Get the--oh! Right. Still open....uh,....Captain Lantrell? Captain Lantrell? Look, we were hauling ass to avoid contact with your--Residents--and we came over this mountain range, here, whatever it's called, and now we're seeing some pretty advanced looking structures down on the ground."
"Indy--send that video feed up to the Guardship, please. Pilot--bring the ship back around and circle that location. Keep us at, um, ten-thousand meters? Will we stay clear of the mountains at that altitude? Oh, just use your best judgement."
"What the Frack, Lantrell? First the Prisoners--dammit!--I mean the Residents!--sneak up on me with a hang-glider, now this frelling Country Estate! My contract says now I gotta go down there and make sure it's not something your Residents can use to get off planet! And it's getting dark down there! My ship gets damaged, landing down there in the dark, I'm gonna bill the damages to your Organization!"
"Longshot, out!" Vonon looks at Indy, nods at her, and makes a gesture of swiftly dragging his heavy thumbnail across his throat.
Once the circuit is closed, Vonon sits back in his command chair and chuckles,
"Heh-heh. So, what do you all think--too much? Heh-heh-heh." Vonon claps his hands and rubs them together, "Okay, Sam, take us in. Nice and Easy. Sharik, Serge, you two help Sam look for a good place to land, that's close to those ruins. Pablo, anything shoots at us from out of those ruins, you shoot back with everything we got--frack the historical value! Indy, if that Guardship calls back, you ignore them until we are on the ground. Then you can answer their call--we're an old ship, lots of technical glitches. Got it?"
"The stellar primary is going down, so let's do this."
