As you are looking about a woman steps up and in a very American accent asks Tiffany Chase? I am Kate Fischer, with orders to relieve you and give you these orders, she hands an official FBI envelope to Tiffany. Perhaps we can go to your rooms and transfer the operation and you can brief me...

Up in the rooms, alone with Chase and Strohkirch, Fischer handed the sealed envelope over to Tiffany. While disguised as a standard envelope, it was clearly official FBI business. "These are your recall orders, Agent. You are to return to Fort Meade - our Fort Meade - for debriefing."

Seemingly dismissing her, she turned to Trevor, her attitude brusque and businesslike. "Agent Strohkirch? I'm Special Agent Fischer, sent to take over for Agent Chase. It's unfortunate that we had to meet under such circumstances, but as I understand from your logs we're in a bit of a time crunch here."

Trevor is clearly taken aback by this.

"Yes Maam. I expect my wife will want to do an official handover, after which I will be happy to anwser any questions."

[OOC: Under these circumstances it is normal for the outgoing IC to brief the incoming IC, as there may be matters subordinates are not aware of that she needs to be briefed about. Perhaps GM on Tiffanies behalf?]

Tiffany escorts you down to where Inspector Manley is...

Oh, I say, we wondered what had happened to you, and who is this lovely lady?

Well I need to return to the USA, and she brought me the message, hopefully I have time as my Dad is quite ill and the family will need me.  I suggested Kate finish my travels, so the reservations and such don't go to waste.

Well certainly, will you continue to aid us with your ...umm knowledge  He quickly glances at Kate's left hand ... umm Miss Kate? I'm sorry I didn't catch your full name.

ooc: Before meeting Manly...

Special Agent Fischer had a quick meeting with Agent Strohkirch. "What's the situation, Agent? What am I walking into here? I've read the logs back to Nofrolk but they don't explain how you and Agent Chase got involved in this mess. Or how the Inspector seems to know so much about our Secret."

Perhaps I can help? We rented the house of a dead lady... who wasn't dead. Then Tiffany and Trevor went into London to look around, they found a  curio shop that in it's junk box had two cell phones, very odd in 1870 I assure you, so they acquired them and brought them back, not knowing that Scotland Yard had an eye on them...  The inspector showed up the next morning inquiring about them, and what they were ... then asked how they could be made to work ... we ended up in Scotland Yard in a scientifuc exploration room where they charged and opened up each ... figuratively speaking and established a plot against the crown, that led us here, along with the inspector as Tiffany and Trevor seemed to understand these things and the weapons the Prussians seem to have acquired, now we hope to locate the place they would use it from, so we can intercept them and bring them to trial red handed...  Forgive my butting in but Trevor is rather upset at his wife suddenly leaving.

Kate doesn't seem happy with Lucretia's answers. "What did the Agents tell the local authorities about the offworld technology? Did they explain cell-phones and how they worked?"

In reply to Kate Fischer (msg # 206):

Umm partially as I recall, what they called radio is being researched in England and sent through various media (water, Railroad rails) and it was proposed some years  (1868) ago that these electromagnetic waves would propagate through the air... but no one has proved it. Then these things show up and Tiffany describes them doing just that.  I found it quite exciting ... but then I went to the FBI HQ  to be included in this exploration once too. The Inspector was mostly incredulous until his scientists got excited and told him it was true... he wants them to make such things for his team now.

Kate pinches the bridge of her nose and closes her eyes. "Okay. Send the Inspector away, I'm not ready to talk to him yet, not until I've established a cover identity with Agent Strohkirch. Who else is here, that knows the Secret? I need a quick meeting with... everyone. Cane? His wife?"

Well they are in Texas, so won't be able to make it ... so Trevor, Me... Amouda of course, but she went to Devonshire i think it was to get lost again.  She was from our time but went through a different portal somewhere in the Caribbean.

"I wasn't even briefed on Amouda..." Kate trailed off. "Okay, as soon as Trevor's ready we'll have a quick meeting. I don't want to say more until then. For now go tell the Inspector to go wait in a pub or cafe or something."

In reply to Kate Fischer (msg # 210):

"The Inspector is aware of our world, because we found some mobile phones from there before, and we helped him understand how to get information from them. But since the phones are here from another world, the reality of weapons also raises an ugly spectre, which he wisely has chosen not to ignore. Given how readily he accepted what we said of us being from a different place, we believe this is not the first Scotland Yard has heard of this."

Kate met with Agent Strohkirch in private first, as her words were only for those actually in the employ of the FBI.

"Agent Strohkirch, I'm sure that Agent Chase had her reasons for making the decisions that she made during her tenure here. Revealing the Secret to so many natives. Getting involved in their politics. Fraternizing with a subordinate to the point of getting married. I am not here to judge her choices."

"I am the judgement for her choices. I am the consequence. She is being recalled, and I have been sent in her place. That should tell you everything about how the FBI - and Handley in particular - feels about your performance here."

She held up her hands. "Not my decision. Not my business. That's between Chase and Handley. But I have a different way of doing things. I was working Counter-terrorism in LA before I was transferred, and I'm going to bring what I learned there to this operation."

"Going forward, we are going to make Operational Security our primary concern. Our orders are to keep the existence of our world secret at all costs. I'm going to interpret that literally, Agent. All Costs. My life. Your life. This whole world. We do not reveal the truth."

"Second, our purpose here. We are here to serve our world and the FBI by observing and reporting. We are a deep cover sleeper cell. We interfere only if our Secret is threatened, if the information we gain is worth the risk, or if we are otherwise ordered. Every time we act risks exposure, and I will see this world burn before I blow our cover. The Prussians could kill the entire royal family and drown London in blood, and the only reason I would risk a finger is to see if they have access to offworld technology."

"As it is, we have three current objectives."

"One. Gather intel on the Prussian's technology. Keeping our cover is a priority, but we will gather as much information as we can. You can try to save the royal family if you like, but this is not one of your objectives. Do not risk the mission to further the political goals of this world's England."

"Two. Recover those cell phones and destroy any record of their existence. Any paperwork. If we cannot recover the phones, destroy them."

"Three. Deal with the Inspector. We will try to convince him that all of the stories about other worlds and magic were Agent Chase's delusions, and that she's going away to a sanitarium for treatment. You were just humoring her mental illness. I will play the role of Agent Strohkirch's widowed sister, come to help while his wife is away."

"I hope for his sake that the Inspector believes this lie, because our orders are that we are not to reveal the true nature of our mission for any reason. I really don't want to have to kill him, because he has been seen so publicly with you, but we are authorized to use lethal force in just this sort of situation."

"There will be no more unsanctioned recruitment into our conspiracy, Agent."

In reply to Kate Fischer (msg # 212):

Trevor considers the response, taking his time to respond.

"The reason we work with the Inspector is largely for that reason. You see, there are other gates that we believe access worlds like ours, perhaps more advanced. While I appreciate your efforts to keep our existence a secret, the problem is, the phones came from a world more advanced than ours, whilst there are other folk here who we believe may have come from our world. Hence, Agent Chase choose to work with the Inspector in order to reach a common goal. The Prussians have access to these other portals, and until we shut that operation down, keeping our existence secret is impossible. They are using the portal to bring in advanced technology that, if successfully used, will be plastered all over the worlds newspapers. The Inspector is part of a secretive organization, Scotland Yard, so we chose working with him as the lesser of two evils. Did your brief cover those details?"

"My orders are to not inform anyone of our origin "for any reason," Agent. Even if they'd make my job easier. We have a lot of free reign in our mission here, but we don't have the authority to decide to break protocol by revealing state secrets to agents of foreign powers.

"And if in this world 'Scotland Yard' is a clandestine agency in service of the British Empire - the largest and most powerful empire this world has ever known - that makes things so much worse. Great Britain cannot learn of us."

She looked towards the door, where Lucretia was waiting outside. "I have not been given orders to eliminate the other civilians you've revealed yourself to. And I'm glad. I don't like having to kill. I think Handley is waiting to hear Chase's personal report, but they seem relieved that they seem trustworthy. They're safe. I think.

"But they're not Agents, they're Assets. Remember the difference. I need to know that if the choice comes down to them or the mission, you'll choose the mission, Agent. I need to know that the FBI is still your ultimate loyalty. Over Lucretia, over this world, over everything. I need to know I can trust in your professionalism."

GM Here

I think you have missed something Agent Fischer, we are guests in Great Britain, they already know of the portals and of us, though not where the portals are, and Lucretia has been cleared by HQ in DC, where we brought her at THEIR request. So she may not be an agent, but she is most certainly a part of the team. Your desire for absolute secrecy is not possible ... we informed Handley of that months ago. His decisions in HQ are those of somebody unknown miles and days if not weeks out of touch. We have had to make decisions on the fly and Mr Handley was not at all to hand. He seems to think he is in control, when at best he can only provide general guidance, and much of that has guidance has been impossible to follow as it speaks to a situation that does not exist. I do understand that you are in charge, but if you insist on following this plan of yours, then I too request to be relieved and sent home and you can live your own fairy tale. It's not reality.
