Group G - The Past, the Present, no Future
Charlie stepped away from Kea out of courtesy to her and Ingrid, and with more people entering Mike's cabin by the second, he was starting to feel too big for such a small house. Without a present task, his attention turned to Wren, whom he smiled at when he saw her standing far enough away to see everyone. Keeping everyone in her line of sight was an early lesson, and to his relief, she seemed to take to it like a duck to water. Charlie's smile faded as his mind wandered to the danger he'd unwittingly landed them in. If this mountain had a cannibal infestation, then they might have been better off taking their chances elsewhere. Suddenly, their surroundings felt less like an isolated oasis, and more like a prison.
The creaking of the door caught Charlie's attention to the small girl who so rudely refused to give her name. He wouldn't have thought much of her arrival if she hadn't started to talk to his niece. Paternal instinct pushed Charlie to inch his way past anyone between him and Wren brusquely. Looming over the two of them, Charlie watched the girl with a stern, distrusting look in his eyes. "Tell me about yourself before you start talking to my niece," he stated, his voice was calm and serious. The more he looked at this girl, the more she reminded him of children back at the reservation; she acted tough and looked capable, but at the end of the day, she was still a child.
Charlie pushed his reservations about treating a kid so suspiciously far into the back of his mind.
