Act 4-C IV: And Down We Went (con't)

Malcolm, Diana, Juan, Chris K, Ramona, Riley

As before, the convoy - now three vehicles - is forced into several delays or detours on the road. Some are predictable, like a forced detour around Camden (an almost-certain quagmire) that forces the group to find an alternative route over the Ouchita River; others can't be predicted from road maps alone, like vehicle graveyards or infrastructural damage like fallen utility poles. In one harrowing case, the group encounters another roadblock ambush, only revealed after careful and time-consuming observation to have been abandoned - or its crew exterminated - well before the group got there.

It's very late afternoon, close to evening, by the time the group reaches Milton, a town of about 1000 located a stone's throw from the Red River. Riley grew up here; her family never left.

The convoy spots a few walkers in the outskirts of Milton, but once they penetrate deeper into the town, the streets become uncannily empty of human figures. Though every community seems empty compared to Little Rock, the town makes even Lonoke look overrun. Occasionally the group spots animals; squirrels and birds, of course, and larger game all the way to deer - but no walkers.

Soon, on the convoy has reached the street of Riley's childhood home. They are still a few blocks away, and have the freedom to choose their approach.

Malcolm scratched at his jaw. Looking at the area surrounding them in the evening light.

"Alright, Riley. it's all in your hands now. Whatever you wanna do, you want us with you or nah?" He asks.

In reply to Snicker (msg # 1):

Juan was glad to get out of the car and streach his legs. While he had ridden hours on a bike, it was not the same thing being carried in a moving metal box. It was good to get the blood flowing into his lower limbs again.

Chris gets out when the vehicles stop and looks around to the town he can see, trying to work out how badly the area has been looted.

Act 4-C IV: And Down We Went (con't)

The sight of the street she grew up on reminded her of her childhood days, despite its unrecognizable state. The closer she was to home, the more anxious she was. She felt her hands trembling on the wheel when the car slowed to a stop. With both hands cupped and brought close to her chest, she gave herself a few words of encouragement in silence.

"I should be fine, but that ambush setup earlier is still giving me a bad feeling. We should go together, there's some fertilizers and tools we can use in my dad's shed, I can't carry those alone." Riley exited the vehicle with weary footsteps. The last time she was this nervous was during her final exam in college.

"Doesn't look like anyone's here... Maybe they decided to lay low in an abandoned town? That's a good strategy, right?" She asked the others in search for reassurance.
