Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris K

The truck has not even come to a complete stop before Sid opens the passenger side door, jumps out, and runs for Rose's prone body. Vivian readies herself for the walker's attack, but Chris K drills a round through its skull just as it lunges forward. Its corpse falls against her, and even dead, she struggles against its weight before slipping aside and letting it fall to the ground.

For a moment, Chris K can tell from Vivian's body language that she's about to engage the next walker, but she turns and grabs Rose instead. With Sid looping her arms under Rose's armpits and Vivian lifting her knees, they lift most of her weight off the ground and begin shifting her to the truck. The next two walkers are extremely close, however; Chris K has only one chance to kill the closest before it will be in arm's reach of Vivian.

The side of the walker's skull bursts open, dark lumpy matter spilling out over its head, neck, and shoulder. Its body falls forward landing on Vivian's shoulder hard enough to cause her to stumble before it falls off of her onto the ground. She and Sid continue half-carrying, half-dragging her to the truck while the next walker reaches out both hands towards Vivian's back.

After dropping the zombie, Chris scans about trying to see where the next nearest one is, and how many more are approaching.

If I score over 15 are you happy for me to describe the zeds desk so I can move on?

Also, how many Zeds are left still approaching?

The shot is picture-perfect, blowing the walker's brains out the back of its skull. That shot gives the group some breathing room; the remaining four walkers are not far behind, but Sid and Vivian have enough time to move Rose's body to the truck's passenger side door and drag her inside. The dogs do not dare approach with the walkers so close, but neither do they run away; instead, they hover about ten metres away, watching the proceedings with an air of impatience.

Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris takes a shot at the next nearest walker, a guy in coveralls who may well have been a pump attendant at the garage, the shot going clear through his head and taking him down. He calls to the others, "Vivian, get behind the wheel and ready to move, I'm getting in the back again. We'll try the same plan. Lead them off and take them down - and the dogs. then We can use the garage to patch ourselves up. hows Rose?"

As of Friday I am on holiday for 2 weeks, so may be a bit less regular in posting

With a last tug, Vivian lays Rose out in a half-sitting, half-laying position in the truck's rear row of seats, then climbs over into the front seat. It's an awkward movement in the cramped confines of the truck, even for someone of her tiny build, but after a few seconds she's able to get into a position where she can drive the truck.

"She's, uh, breathing - " Sid says, looking down at Rose, but when she looks up at Chris K, her expression is desperate. "We don't have time to lead them around again! She's bleeding really bad - we have to give her real first aid, we can't do that in the back seat!"

Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris K

Vivian slams on the gas, causing the truck to lurch forward before veering sharply to the right with a screech of its tires. Sid struggles to keep pressure on Rose's neck as the momentum throws everyone back and forth. The truck turns off the side of the road, then across the grass towards the gas station. Unfortunately, there is no garage, just a series of pumps and a convenience store, but Vivian pulls up directly in front of the latter's front door.

The walkers change direction, shambling towards the truck, but it will take them the better part of a minute to reach it. The dogs continue to watch from a distance, not coming near the truck or the walkers.

Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris K

Sid and Vivian immediately get to moving Rose inside. It takes them some work to coordinate the transport of the larger woman, especially in the confines of the truck, but they do get her inside. As soon as the front door to the building opens, Chris K gets a strong whiff of sour rot, but the women do their best to ignore it as they move Rose to the floor. Before Chris K turns away, he sees Sid open up one of the drink displays lining the walls and recoil with a look of disgust.

The walkers are easy pickings for Chris K and his rifle. The sway of their clumsy gait may make it difficult for him to line up a headshot, but there is no risk of them reaching him before he can finish them off.

Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris K

Killing the walkers takes more rounds than Chris K would like. As the last one falls, he feels the bolt lock open on his M4. In between the dogs and the walkers, he has exhausted his magazine. Once the walkers are dead, the dogs start to move in, but they still appear cautious, and leave Chris K plenty of time to step into the building.

Once he's inside, the smell of rot redoubles, if not requadruples. Electricity failed long ago, and cartons of milk and other perishables in the drink displays are visibly painted with mold. At his question, Sid gestures to several glass fruit juice bottles filled with discoloured liquid are stacked in front of the door to the employees-only section.

"I'm fine," Vivian says evasively, but despite Rose's blood on both her and Sid's clothes, Chris K can tell Vivian is bleeding as well. Nonetheless, it doesn't look like she needs immediate attention, unlike Rose. Vivian exhales a shaky breath as she looks down at her. "She's hurt really bad. She needs real first aid. You know how to do that, don't you? At least, good enough to stabilize her?"

Chris changed out his mags on his M4, making sure it was ready to fire before putting on the safety.

He slung his M4 before stepping over to Rose and Vivian saying "I did a little in the Guard, but I wasn't a medic. If your ok, Vivian, see if you can find any first aid supplies thats been left here. Sid - can you keep watch. For Dogs or walkers, or anything else for that matter,"

He examines Rose's wounds

ooc
Is Rose conscious?

Not sure what to roll for medic skill.

ALso for scavenging, can Chris only spend SU to find first aid kit if he is actually looking, or could he use them and Vivian find the stuff?

Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris K

Though not a medic, Chris K has received basic first aid training. Rose is semiconscious at best; she flinches or gasps slightly in response to pain, but does not talk, nor do her eyes even track Chris K's movements. The dogs have torn her up in multiple locations, including the neck and face, but it doesn't look like they caught her windpipe, jugular vein, or carotid artery. Her skin is cool, clammy, and noticeably paler despite her dark tone. Early pressure on her wounds has stemmed the worst of her bleeding, but her injuries still ooze blood.

Vivian ducks behind the store's counter and comes up with a basic first aid kit, which she wastes no time in handing to Chris K. Sid takes up position by the front window, watching the outside warily.

Act 5-C: The Violet Hour

Chris K

Chris K's attempts at first aid go poorly. Rose's wounds are deep and ragged, making it difficult to sufficiently stem the bleeding. Chris K must apply, and sometimes reapply, an excessive amount of material before he can be confident he has stopped her decline, and there is nothing he can do for the blood she has already lost. Eventually, he is confident that her condition has stabilized, but only that. She is only semi-conscious and cannot move on her own, nor will she be able to any time soon. He's also exhausted the simple first aid kit of its useful supplies.

Chris sat back on his haunches, and wiped his fore head. "Thats all I can do for Rose, and I'm not sure how much that helped. SHe needs proper medical help, if we can find it." He looked at Vivian and then said "Let me look at your wound, and mine, and we'll see what needs to be done for them, though" he gestured at the kit "Thats no use to us now so we'll have to improvise." He paused and said to Sid "How are things out there?". Assuming nothing bad was happening he started examining Vivians and his wounds

"Yeah, okay," Vivian says as she pulls off her jacket. Dog bites have torn the skin on her left arm and shoulder, but her jacket sleeve seems to have mitigated some of the damage. The bleeding seems to have more or less stopped, so her condition is stable, but the damage is nonetheless significant; she'll need treatment with actual medical supplies to really recover. Chris K's injuries to his leg are pretty much the same story.

"It's...fine," Sid says, not taking her eyes off the window. "The dogs are still out there, but they're not getting close. They don't want to get shot."

After a moment, she adds, "You probably could shoot 'em, though. Like, at least one, before the others knew what you were doing."

She stops abruptly, then takes a breath. Her gaze stays focused out the window, avoiding eye contact with anyone in the building. "Sorry. I'm sorry. I don't see anything but dogs right now. I'll tell you if there's anything else."

Vivian does not answer for a moment, but maintains eye contact with Chris K as she pulls her pistol out of her jacket pocket. She switches out the magazine with a fresh one, then racks the slide, loading a round into the chamber.

"Yes," she says quietly. "Where are you going?"
