Ah right, that is why there are always cheerleaders and football players.

Uh, . . . .

Without looking this up I believe that homecoming refers to a game designated where all of the alums "come home" to their alma mater.  There are usually special events, such as the parade, the crowning of the king and queen, tours of the school for alums who have not been back in a while, induction into the alumni hall of fame, etc.

These are just representative examples of what a school might do.

And after looking it up on that unimpeachable source of all knowledge and wisdom . . .

I had never really thought about it before, I had just accepted it as the time in movies and TV series that homecoming was when cheerleaders or school teachers get murdered and zombies attack high schools.

That's pretty much what I remember from my school days. As my high school was all-male, and my college had no football team; Homecoming was the game / weekend set aside for the Alumni to come back for the game (HS) / weekend (college).

In either case; there was no significant cheerleader presence and/or parades. In the case of my HS, an all-male cheer squad would not have been contemplated back in the early '90s, or point-of-fact to this day (our "band" was a disaster too, now that I'm thinking back on it).  In college, it's hard to get fired up over a school mascot nicknamed the "Purple Chicken", so I wasn't paying much attention then either.  *shrugs*

We have nothing comparable over here. I suspect it may be because Americans are much more mature when thay finish school than we are in the UK. As adults you are more likely to want to return to a school as alumni.

Jello Everyone, Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy holidays.

Sorry I have been AFK for a Week or so.... I came Down with a VERY VERY BAD VOODOO SINUS Infection Gone Bronchitis, Nearly Pneumonia. One could hear My Death rattle.

Seriously... 4-5 days with nearly no sleep do to cough hacking and purging Nastyness out of my Sinuses and Lungs that I swear there was to much to account for that there had to be some brain matter in there some where.

I think some aliens where using my head as a Spawn factory... some game material in there some where.....

Anyway.. other than a left over bit of cough hand rough voice. I and feeling better... Lets get things moving again everyone.

/[start confused rant]

A towel costs 100 credits?!?!?!?

A towel?

So I can trade one assault rifle for six towels?

And 100 rounds of ammo is only 30?

What kind of madness is this?

/[end confused rant]

A towel, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

You can also use the fumes from a well-mixed Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster to kill off any infections, and most non-sentient (and sentient) lifeforms.

To make it worse, if you traded in the assault rifle you probably wouldn't get full value so you are really looking at no more than 4 towels and a bar of soap.

Re: OOC Game Discussion
Actually; I'd be more worried about any potential "special features" included in a 100-credit "towel".  Worse yet, I'd be terrified about any "malfunction" of said "special features" in a towel can costs as much as a military-grade armory.  Just saying.

PS: Whatever you do; try not to think about what kind of malfunctions could occur in a space-faring age piece of high technology "towel."  No; I said "Don't think about it.

Too late; you thought about it, didn't you?  Here, have a Gargle Blaster, it'll erase that memory (and most of your childhood).

Hmmm: I'd better get one of those "towels."  I could use a secondary weapon ...

So . . . am I the only person who sees our real-life 3D printer technology as a precursor to the matter replicators on Star Trek?

No, I think I read in an interview with one of the original developers that the replicator was the original inspiration for the 3d printer.

Nestle are already working on a feed replicator
