Doc Woods - Chapter 5 1/2: Halloween Hijinx
Two weeks have passed since the ritual that freed you from your demonic tormentor.  Life has been quiet for the last two weeks and things are starting to feel like a "normal" life once again.  Day to day activities fall into their usual, boring path and boredom seems to be the order of the day.

Time flies even when you're bored and there's not much to do.  Halloween is just around the corner and the air of Las Vegas has started taking on an unlife of it's own.  Haunted houses have sprung up and are in full swing.  People are planning parties.  Kids are finalizing their costume choices for the annual door-to-door begging fest.

When you wake up tonight, Terry brings you the day's mail.  Nothing too out of the ordinary.  Bills, fliers, the usual junk mail...  But, one letter stands out among the humdrum, a nice, black envelope with gold embossed letters.  Someone went to a great deal of trouble for this letter.

You open it and find that the paper inside matches the envelope.  It too has the same gold embossing and reads as follows:

"You are cordially invited to attend the scariest night of your life.  Prepare yourself for thrills, chills, dares, and scares as your preservation of will, your tenacity, and your very life force will be tested.  Can you survive a single night in a haunted house?

Come to 825 Marion Drive at precisely 11:00 pm on the eve of Samhain, if you dare.  Rules of the contest will be given when and if you choose to participate.

IF you survive, you will rewarded with a prize of your choosing.

                                                               Sincerely,
                                                                 C. Ulysses Farley
                                                                 Clan Malkavian"

Hmmm. I'll look to see how many nights away that is.

I will have made it a point to have seen that band in my off time just as an aside.

Have I seen or heard anything that would relate to the conflict I was trying to brew between the Giovanni and Pareis?

It's still three days away.

1337 Kru pretty much blows.  They try to be ultra-hip and do an electronica/metal/hip-hop thing.  Some people might like them but it just hits you in all the wrong places.

No one's said anything about anything as far as Pareis is concerned.  But, then again, it's probably not something that most Kindred in the city would know about being a Mage thing...

[Secret to Doc Woods: Also, I was editing the last post when you posted.  I don't know what might be different from what you read, so you might want to re-read it before you move on.  I made a few edits before I updated, so I don't remember everything that I changed.  It may or may not be important, but I doubt that it's much...]

I don't mind seeing the Cru, but The Demons were the band I meant.(Had to look them up).

I think I'll take the time to drive by the address and look at it. IDK if it's the addy of the haunted house, or of the host. So I'll see about it.

Re: Doc Woods - Chapter 5 1/2: Halloween Hijinx
You also go to see The Demons during the hiatus (I completely forgot about them as they were only mentioned as flavor, but...) at one of the local dive bars.  They draw a good-sized crowd at the show that you go to see them at.  From what you gather at the show, they have a fairly large following here in the southwest outside of L.A.  They play something that sounds like synth-punk with a heavy dose of speed metal laced into it.  Lots of blood, some of which (if not for your familiarity with the substance), you'd swear was real.  At one point, they "sacrifice" a woman on stage.  The make up and special effects are especially good for a mid-to-low budget act.

As for the location, it's a run-down day care center.  The sign, which has seen better days, informs you that this is Little Choo Choo Daycare.  The place doesn't look like it has seen any use in years...

I'm gonna snoop around then. Hidden from view of course. If I see nothing of interest I'll just go home for the night, maybe doing something in the other nights before the event, I'll hafta think.

It looks like any other daycare center, minus the age.  Some of the windows are smashed and boarded up.  The doors are all chained and locked.  There's another smaller building in the back next to a playground, but it's chained and padlocked too.

I'll go home and do some research on the day care. I can always come back the next night with my bolt cutters if I really want to look around.

Re: Doc Woods - Chapter 5 1/2: Halloween Hijinx
You get to Googling around about it and find the following:
  http://lasvegas.cbslocal.com/t...most-haunted-places/

"The Little Choo Choo Daycare is now closed but restless spirits are believed to haunt the area where it once stood. The business ceased operations after the suicide of a teacher and the accidental death of a child who was dragged along the tracks underneath the toy train. Some spirits are known to pop up and quickly disappear. There has also been more than one sighting here of a small boy digging with a shovel."
[Private to Doc Woods: Yes, I realize now that I got the street address wrong, but, oh well...]

On another site [Secret to Doc Woods: (which is in game only, so no URL)], you find a bit of urban legend style reading about it...

"Legend tells of the teacher in question running over the intentionally as if she were possessed to do so by some unseen force.  As for her suicide, supposedly after this power left her body, she felt such remorse and a possible psychotic break that she committed suicide right there in front of all of the remaining children by digging out her wrists with a spoon that she brought in her lunch."

From everything that you find on "official" webpages, the event occurred back in the mid 60's.  In fact, the date of the "accident"/suicide was October 31, 1964.  Exactly 50 years ago to the date of your appointment...  Of course, there's nothing mentioned on these sites as to the nature of the suicide, but you still have the info from the legend.

Do I know anything about this Malkavian? If I don't, I'll call Belle and Gerry to see if either of them know the guy. Besides, I'd like to know how many of these went out.

Re: Doc Woods - Chapter 5 1/2: Halloween Hijinx
You've never heard of any Malkavians here in town, come to think of it.  Neither Belle nor Gerry has ever heard of the guy.  Neither of them got an invite either.  Belle does tell you, though, that she has a few friends who are Malkies and that she'll see if any of them know anything.

Re: Doc Woods - Chapter 5 1/2: Halloween Hijinx
"Please do. I'd like to hope I'm not the only one getting an invite. If I am, it reeks of a trap. Ghosts, and the Giovanni and all that."

I think I'll relax the rest of the night, and I will indeed pay a visit with some bolt cutters the next night. It may be cheating, or the like, but I have yet to agree to anything, and the rules don't say I can't take a peek.

Well, it also said that you would receive the rules once, and if, you showed up...

The next night comes, the night before the occasion, and you go take a look with some bolt cutters to break into the alleged haunted school.  Back door or front?

Re: Doc Woods - Chapter 5 1/2: Halloween Hijinx
Well that's what I'm saying. If I haven't seen rules, I can't be called a cheater.

The little room that's attached first. I'll also make sure to take new padlocks for after I cut the old ones. As close to identical as I can find.
