Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
Saturday, July 13, 2014…

You open your eyes and the first thought that comes to your mind is, “How long has it been?”  Weeks?  Months?  But, you know it’s only been a day or so since you last had a fix.  You can feel the beast that rides you calling out…  Aching to taste not blood, but sweet Lady China.

In the rest of Las Vegas tonight, tourists abound.  Summer is the biggest season for them.  And with them comes a plethora of easy marks for many of the city’s Kindred.  Some are marked as cattle, ready for slaughter.  Some as banks, fat with cash and casino vouchers.  Still some more as sick toys for the most depraved somewhere in the depths of the Sin City’s hellhole underbelly.  Most people would be surprised how a city with so many lights can hide so much.

That’s what you thought all those years ago when you came to Las Vegas.  You ran away from all the pressures of school straight into a bottle.  When the bottle got too cramped, you found a nice, warm syringe to blow your mind and your “misery” away.  What did you have then?  What did you throw away to become what you are?  Your family?  Your dreams?  That girl in high school in the tight sweater that you almost made it with?  All these things and more…

Above you, you can hear the few remaining sounds as Paradise, the subdivision you reside in, rolls up it's sidewalks and locks it's doors.  During the day, it's name is misleading, but at night, they should change it from Paradise, to something more like Criminal Wasteland.

The night calls.  Will you answer?

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
I know where they will be, those blind, lost souls slamming poison into their veins...God bless them. My body needs it's medicine, I must leave the comfort and isolation of the sewers. With nothing but the clothes on my back, I walk the dank tunnels till I find the correct exit. Before exiting, I extend my will to cloud the awareness of the passerby that I may see. I must not let them see my visage and get me in trouble with the Prince. Then, off I go for the sweet taste combination of blood and heroin.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
You exit the sewers and enter the streets of the city.  You see the usual sights that you're used to...  The abandoned car that serves as a place for locals to shoot up in, have sex in, or sleep in if it's not being used for either of the other two; the decrepit phone booth that serves the same purpose most nights when the car is occupied; and the whore, that you know to be named Mary.  You've fed from her once or twice when you had no other option, but she's not into H.  The car and the phonebooth are both empty.  Not too uncommon this early of the night.  You look elsewhere.

A few blocks down, you see one of your regulars, Ollie.  He's almost always good for a fix.  He's usually got more juice in him than an orange on the tree.  He sits on the front stoop of a run down Brownstone.  An old man walks by slowly as you close the distance.

I will continue toward Ollie, keeping an eye on the wanderer, making sure to not reveal myself until he has passed. When he has I will find a shadowy place near Ollie and call out to him.

The old man passes with no issue as you settle into the shadows along side the dumpster next to the steps where Ollie is sitting.

He startles a little when you speak.

"Izzat you, Doc?", he manages to say through a slur.

Yes it is Ollie. I'm looking for the usual trade my friend, the pleasure of the bite, for the pleasure of the high.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
"Hell yeah, man!  I been wanting to see you, man.  Been putting that good shit in my arm just waiting for you, man."

Ollie gets up from his seat on the stoop with a shamble and walks in the direction of the voice that calls to him. You pull him into the shadows and take a deep drink from his arm.  The blood tastes dirty and musty, but the taste is of little concern to you.  Blood is the last thing on your mind right now.  You can feel the sweet embrace of the warm haze start to wrap around your body and mind.  Dreams start to feel more real as the junk begins to sweep over you.

"Ahhhh yeah. Well Ollie I hate to eat and run, but I must. Everything good? No problems beyond the millstone that is existence? Remember what I say every time, use only clean needles Ollie, neither one of us needs the HIV."

With that, unless Ollie mentioned a major issue, I will return home, focusing my efforts to remain shrouded despite the lethargy of the high.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
You return to your exceptionally meager abode.  Once there, you pass out cold, drawn deeply into the drug-induced sleep...

When you awake, it's still night.  You have no idea how long you were out.  You can hear some sort of commotion coming from overhead.  It sounds like a heated argument.

"Look, fucker, I don't give a shit what you think.  You got the junk from me and now you owe me."

"I don't owe you shit!  You fuckin' ripped me off!"

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
If the voices sound like they are right over the manhole I'll lurk right beneath it and listen. If however it is possible to get above ground and shroud myself without being seen, I will do so and approach the arguing people that way.

Also, do I recognize either voice?

The voices do indeed sound like they are overhead.  One of them not only sounds familiar, but you know it well.  It's Ollie.  He's the one being accused of owing money.  You would definitely be able to get out and around another way, but it would take a few minutes.  If you did that the argument may either be over of have escalated by then.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
I'll try to push up the cover and peer out, that way I can see whose back is to me and the like(attempting to be shrouded despite my movements). If someone is actually standing on the cover, I will instead have no choice but to speak from under the manhole. "Hey, what the hell is going on up there" I will yell in that instance, to try to alarm whoever the other person is.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
You try to move the lid to the manhole without being noticed, but it is no use.  The grating sound of it moving even to peer out is enough to be noticed...

"What the fuck?!" hollers the man who has his back to you, the one who isn't Ollie as he turns to look at what might be coming from the sewer grate behind him.  You can see now, that he is a black man, mid-20's, pretty ragged looking.

If I can make out his features that means he can see mine as well I imagine. This being the case I will emerge from the hole, focusing the vitae into my muscles, giving myself the strength I never possessed in life. If I can grab his legs from where I am I will do so and try to pull him off his feet, if not I will bull rush out of the hole and grab him.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
You easily snatch him off his feet before he can react.  He goes down fairly hard, hitting his chest on the pavement as he starts sliding downward toward you.  Ollie, not knowing exactly what's going on, starts to run.  You can hear him screaming something about "Sewer Monsters!" as he runs.

The junkie isn't doing much of anything other than screaming, mostly obscenities.

Re: "Doc" Woods - Chapter 1: Beginnings
I will attempt to pull him down into the darkness with me, and get him pinned against the wall, or on the ground. I will then hiss in his ear "Tell me what the problem is between you and Ollie, and who the hell you are".
