The Transfer
The small craft dispatched by the Mercy II finally rendezvous with the wayward crew of the Pytheas III in their makeshift barge.

The hours crawl by as the craft negotiate an encounter and match speeds, and sort out details over an encrypted tight-beam circuit.

The Mercy's dropship is to continue on with 2 of the gunships and either escort, or board and capture, the small transport ship called the Auriga.

The man in charge of the OAU team, Major Duschesne, demands that Jenna be remanded to their custody immediately.  The Captain of the Pytheas III convinces him to allow Mir along; explaining how they believe that Jenna was being controlled somehow and is ultimately innocent; due to OAU law regarding treatment of prisoners, the Major is forced to accept.

Upon discussion of the possibility of securing the Pytheas itself, it is decided that Caitlin will go along with the OAU dropship as well, if she is willing.

Finally you all meet aboard the OAU Dropship - a sleek military design bristling with weapons and space for up to 50 heavy infantry.  Though, only a dozen or so are aboard, and much of the crew quarters has been converted to a makeshift brig.

Major Duschesne is a wiry little man with gaunt features and salt-and-pepper hair (picture Stanis from GOT in they Pytheas' jumpsuit uniform), and along with him are...

The Major is here with Jed and Rondo and a few random crewman that I have not fleshed out; Rondo you are here specifically to check the incoming people for bugs or devices or the like, and to secure the Pytheas' computer and AI cores.  Jed you are here because the Major told you to be :D

You are all in the dropship's embarkation room; a large airlock used for boarding or spacewalks.  It's a big metal room with weapons lockers and such and a large holo-table and a few environment suits and space armor.  This dropship is about the size of the Space Shuttle, to give a sense of scale.

Introduce and describe yourselves, talk to the Major or whatever then I'll move this forward to the next events.  I'm sure some of you might need more information or a recap - ask if so.  Thanks!

[Private to Techie: As an FYI, your little plan with the ECM drones and such completely changed how I had to do this...  and also gave me the info / opening I needed to start Luke and Toshiro's prologues.

Which is a good thing, to be clear.  :D

Mir extended his hand to  Jed, Rondo, and Duschesne, and said, "Dr. Nathaniel Mirdolen, but folks just call me 'Mir'.  We appreciate the help.  Freezing to death in the far reaches of the galaxy, floating around in a dead ship is not my idea of the best way to go out, let me tell you that."

[Private to Jenna Hedak: "Friendly and non-threatening.  Don't give them any excuse to lock you up."]

Re: The Transfer
Oh, and sorry, forgot to give Jed and Rondo a little more info as well.

Jenna is a waifish brunette with a short hairdo who looks more than a little disheveled (a little like a younger Madeline Kahn as seen in Clue); the captain of the Pytheas is a gruff man with a thick beard and graying hair (picture the dude that plays the president on Hunger Games.)

Once the Captain of the Pytheas leaves - after a short debriefing - it is just the PC's and the Major and the 3-4 random OAU servicemen.

The debriefing is mostly just the Captain thanking the crew of the Mercy for the assist and filling in a few details most of you should already know; again, if not, let me know and I can try to recap.

Jed reaches out and takes the Doctor's hand, nodding "Doctor... Mir"

After introductions and after the Captain of the Pytheas leave after the debriefing.

"Mir, I detect an accent, can't place it, where did you do your schooling? What are your medical disciplines?"

This asked while finding a corner to lean against and asking if anyone wants a rehydrated brownish liquid that looks the viscosity of jelly.

Rondo shakes Mir's hand in his turn.  "Technical Specialist Rondo Telek, at your service."  Rondo is of average height and build with close cropped brown hair and light blue eyes.  He's almost remarkably unremarkable in appearance.  He's cradling a strange looking device in his left hand.  It appears to be egg shaped and about 8 inches high by 5 inches wide, primarily composed of yellow metal.  On the side facing out there is what appears to be a glowing red camera lens about an inch in diameter.  It seems like little more than a child's toy.

"I need to scan you folks for listening devices and other cyber-threats. This will only take a minute," he says.  The red lens on the yellow toy-thingy turns blue and sends out rays of blue light, scanning Mir, then the others, from head to toe.

I'm not seeing any "detect tech" or whatever; what skill / power are you using to do this?

We can, naturally, assume you use the equipment on the ship - I'm not at all saying you can't do this or trying to make it harder to do.  Just making sure I'm not missing something on Skeezy's build with you choosing to use him for the task.

Let me know - thanks!

As he is being scanned, a line briefly appears on Mir's forehead due to the blunt inquiry from Jed, but as he answers, his tone is mild. "I studied psychology, anatomy and physiology, xenobiology, miscellaneous pathogens, also known as diseases, viruses, poisons, radiation, those types of things, and finally, general surgery."

Then he continues, and says, "As for my accent, I travel frequently, so I should imagine I've picked up traces of a variety of cultures."

[Private to Kraven Kor: You're completely right that Skeezy doesn't have this power.  I was operating under the assumption that some device would be provided to perform this function and I had it appear to come from Skeezy for the sake of flavor.  We can retconn it, or play it like Rondo was trying to conceal the fact that he was using another type of device and trying to make it look like it came from Skeezy, but the trickery would be noticed by perceptive characters.  That has it's own sort of flavor to it and makes him look a bit kooky :) ]

"So you've had time to study this spy, someone said she was 'conditioned,' is that like sleep walking or is like from the vids, Xillik puppets or something else?"

The heavy worlder sipped his thick brew, brushing a bit of imagined lint off his pant leg, then scratched his hand holding the mug in a distracted way.

Mir shook his head. "I don't know what Xillik conditioning is, but the type to which I refer is an active, mental conditioning, and if I am correct, can only be performed by a skilled mentalist.  Please note that I said, 'skilled', not 'ethical'.  Mentalism is not intended to force compliance in such a manner.  I believe Jenna's conditioning essentially replaced her own personality with a set of commands and responses programmed into her, with the purpose of obtaining that ship."

"Mentalist? Is that a clinical term?
What do you mean 'Active' Who activates it?

Wait.. obtaining what Ship
?"

The heavy worlder leans forward and reaches for a compressed wet-wipe, tears it open, unfolds it and wipes down his hands and pays special attention to his knuckles, looking up at Mir for clarification.

Mir explained, "Mentalist.  Telepath.  Humans and some other species have a statistically small possibility of being potential telepaths, that is, being able to read minds and influence thoughts.  There are schools set up across the Republic to find and train these people; as you can imagine the Republic is keenly interested in knowing who these people are, and controlling them, if they can."

Then he looked out a window vaguely toward the alien ship, and he said, "Out there, floating in space, is a ship of unknown origin, and it seems to be the object of all of this... unpleasantness.  No one aboard the Pytheas has any idea of why it is so valuable, but the Republic seems willing to murder us all for it."

Rondo looks up from his scanning as the discussion turns to Hedak's condition. "That's...disturbing.  What is her current mental state?  I can see that she is ambulatory, but is she cognizant of what is going on around her?  Is she dangerous at this point?"

Re: The Transfer
In reply to Rondo (msg # 15):

Mir shook his head. "To my judgment, no, she is not dangerous.  I believe the encoded patterns have been disabled; since she was prevented from achieving her goals, the conditioning was also programmed with a self-destruct of sorts, which I bypassed by putting her into a coma temporarily.  When she awoke, she was much better, which is why I recommended to the Captain that she could be very useful, and should not be incarcerated."

[Private to Jenna Hedak: (Telepathically)"Easy... no reason for alarm.  Answer their questions if they have them and with luck we can keep you out of the brig."]
