The Prisoner - City of Amaht

You all stand just outside of the eastern slums of the city proper. Few people move about, visibly, at this time as the sun has taken leave of the day. Your quarry lies within the keep nestled at the heart of the capital city of Syfera. To simply kidnap the target, or do you toss the kingdom into disarray by attempting to assassinate the witch of a queen Media. The only thing standing in your way is indecisiveness and the royal guard that acts as both a garrison and police force.

Strangers in this unknown land, some of you men to boot, in many cases you would be put in chains on sight. So far only your luck and good fortune has saved you from capture. Luckily there is no true time frame, except this arbitrary 20 cycles before your ride returns in your ticket home. A map and information of your intended target has fallen into your hands, provided by your benefactors toady, paints a near complete path into the keep of the Queen.

It seems that fortune has provided your group with many possibilities to accomplish task. It seems as if the fickle lords of chaos are watching your progress with amused interest. You swear you hear the slight tickle in your ears of each of the higher lords placing bets on which way you will accomplish your task. For now your target, a prisoner known as Tenatir, is just out of reach.

Rael shakes his head as if the clear some noise glancing about with a shallow look "What a wonderful place... lets not try to die here.. or worse."

He glance about "Lets locate that inn... and see how we would conduct our business from there."

"Eclair since you are the most human looking female in our midst if we need to talk with officials I suggests you'd be our mouth... but perhaps it would be best to seek the slums... perhaps we could get more information on the situation and even hire some men with "scrupulous" morals to act as a diversion."

He rub his chin his eyes scanning the street "If we could lay our hands on this Tara I feel we could convince her to aid us and be the key to our success."

[Private to GM: Rael seek out any beggars or street urchins]

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

After several minuets of preparation and accessories, Angrboda is able to work her magic and get the group passable, night time being a great help. Moving forward into the slums Viktor takes a few seconds with a barrel of rainwater, or at least he hopes it is, and washes him/herself clean.

After a few moments of waiting for Viktor, a voice calls out from the darkness.
"Are Miladies out looking for a bit of evening entertainment?"
A thin man emerges from a shadowy doorway. He is dressed in gaudy finery, tight hose, with ruffles everywhere. A tired look on his face points to an accepted fate of his potential occupation.
"For but one sliver of a coin apiece I can help make the night seem much brighter. Wine and adventure for all, if that be your tastes, and times being what they are."

Rael speaks in a whisper that he tries to make sound huskier "An interesting notion but we require a guide. Can you take us to the Black Lizard Tavern? a silver for your troubles and another when we get there."

Angrboda disguise was a work of craftmenship he was highly impressed by it. And her spell weaving was just as impressive, he just had to hope it would hold until they would be safely tucked in the tavern inn.

The man of the evening moves a bit more forward into the moonlight allowing the group a far better view. "A guide, yes that is an interesting notion. A place of good drinks and revelry? Mistress must be new to the trade... Ahh ha I see, yes, are you on a hunt? After the fabled midnight snipe?" He stretches a bit, allowing the moonlight to play off of the hose that clung tightly to his thin and muscular legs. "See anything you like? Lucky for you I came along, there are all sorts of hooligans about. Is it a party for all of you then mistress? Should I be helping you find a nice private dance hall instead?"

Taking a step forward, he reaches out and grabs Rael daintily by the hand. "Your sisters do love playing the good joke. I will however play along as it has been a slow night. It has been some time since I've played the tracking hound. Do you have a collar?" He moves the ruffles near his neck to the side exposing his neck. He looks at your group in expectation "I must however insist on a bit of coin first mistress."

Angrboda worries that they are wasting valuable time, "Never mind your services, we are in a hurry and need to be off." she says imperiously, worried that the spells duration may drop before they get to their destination and obviously there is a requirement that males be collared to be on the streets at night.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Taken back by both the rough handing of Viktor and Rael, then the complete turn around by Angrboda the nightwalker is at a loss for words.

"I can take you there that is sure, but are you not sure you do not know the way? On one side of the coin you do not want to play, the other..."

He offers an elbow to Rael

"I can show you the way for the bit is silver. Would the gentle miss be so kind?"
Moving at a slow pace he begins to lead the group through the winding streets. He blathers on about small talk and other fashions in the kingdom, trying to strike up likes and dislikes of the group. After several minuets the group passes by the large keep of Media. The octagonal walls are sharp and well kept. From this distance you can tell that the outer wall is well lit and manned. The information recalled from memory on the back of the map seems to be fairly accurate. [Private to Angrboda: You figure you have about 12 minuets at this point.]

The walker goes on about how great it is to live in the city, as well as, other such "safe" conversations about the overall condition of the place. Several more minuets pass and you come upon a hole in the wall tavern in decent shape. A sign, easily visible, has a large gecko like lizard in black crawling up and around a large rock hanging above the door. The (whoops) squat, wide, building seems to be favored by those who are obviously in the employ of Media. Women wearing green cloaks, as well as, off duty guardsmen in red hose dot the area in great numbers. [Private to Angrboda: Give or take about 5 or 6 minuets at this point]

"Your destination miladies." He gestures with a wide open palm.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Ecalir had been caught up in gawking at the alien city. It was so different from the cities she was used to. It was dirty and unsavory, which was not too different from her home, but it was a very different kind of dirty and unsavory. She grit her teeth and followed along quietly, a bit to dumbfounded to be the leader the group needed at first.

As they arrived at the inn though she squared her shoulders and surveyed the environs. This was definitely a place for the men to be... silent. She regards the squat building then looks to the inn and grumbles. It had to be right next to a guard hangout, or was the squat building part of the inn?

She looked at her companions and then at the strange guide and frowned, "Begone, you. We are at our destination and do not feel like playing anymore." She looked at the three "disguises" out of curiosity as to what they looked like, then toward the green cloaks and red hose. She wanted to suggest a scout force instead of their whole menagerie, but not while the strange ears were nearby.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Now that light is a bit more common, you can see that the spells that were woven to hide the others has done a wonderful job. Beneath the disguises are 3 ordinary looking individuals. Their features have taken on a bit more of a feminine look. Jawlines have softened from boxy to a bit more angular, noses taken on a soft petite curve rather than the largish nostrils like those adorning Viktors face. The best part is, they look like average slavers who have seen hardship of the open road and excessive labor of a slaver.

There are few standers outside of the tavern hanging in the shadows. Occasionally you hear the deeper voice of a male, intermingled, it is few and far between. Taking a quick peek inside, as the door opens a few times letting customers in and out, you can only spot 4 or so males (beyond the "barmaids") amongst the 30 or so women many of whom sport green cloaks and red hose. The building does not seem to sport any 2nd story, indicating that his is simply a place of drinking and revelry rather than one of lodging.

Sorry about that, I accidentally typed "A" instead of "The" in the last post, the squat building is the tavern.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Your escort bows and pockets the silver tossed at him. Eying the red hosed women nearby you see him nervously look around a bit.

"Thank you mistress, I shall be going now." He bows as he backs away "I do hope our game was to your satisfaction." He glances once again at the red hosed women and bows deeply one more time before hurrying away.

The tavern is decently packed but movement is far from claustrophobic. Your entry is noted by some, but ignored by most as many are visibly here relaxing after a long shift or other such nefarious deed. As noted on the outside the clientele is mostly those wearing slavers cloaks and the red hose of the city guard. There is a shapely, yet well toned, female behind the bar. As Angrboda approaches the bar she looks up and quickly cleans a spot. "Hey babe, you new to acquisitions?  What can I get for you? Wait, I know you want the "Old Dirty"" she grabs a large pewter mug and taps on a plank in the wall behind her. It slides open revealing a lanky man covered in sweat and grease. "An Old Dirty!" A few moments later the mug returns with this deep chocolate colored brew. As the liquid foams and churns you can see a lighter swirl cascade through the froth every so often.

The bartender smiles "Go on, drink up, it's what all cloudbunnies get."

Now if you excuse me I have tables and drinks to serve." The bartender nods her head in a short almost imperceptible nod.

Eclair stood quietly and played the subordinate to Angrboda's captain or whatever it was as she eyed the strange brew. She wasn't sure exactly if drinking it was a good idea but barely had time for that. She looked at the bartender aside as instructions were given to let themselves into the basement. Fetching one's own wine must be pretty common practice in the establishment.

She nodded to her compatriot as she moved to the side, leaving her foaming mug, and stepped into the back area quickly and without hesitation. The sounds of a kitchen came from another door, presumably where the very dirty man worked, and several boxes and barrels in this room as well as the stair down immediately to her right.

With a last quick look around she drew a dagger and descended into the cellar to look for some "wine."

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Angrboda quickly slips out of the tavern with hardly giving a glance back. There is a sense of urgency in her steps as she slides between and through the crowd as a wisp of smoke. Reaching the three that have remained outside she quickly goes over the plan of the back door. Of which a short alley looks like it may provide the best avenue to reach that back door. [Private to Angrboda: You see Lars's features begin to shift back towards the more masculine.]

Rael and Eclair nod and head through the door to the right of the bar and quickly make sure the back door is unlatched. Then they proceed to slowly head down the stout wooden staircase into a large earthen chamber. The cellar is a wide open area filled with shelves of foodstuffs, two large wine racks, and a long row of large ale barrels. Between the barrels along the wall and the two wine racks is a small table holding two guards wearing red hose. Luckily they are currently engaged in a came of cards and have not taken notice of the two creeping down the stairs.

Noticing a sliver of light peak out from the alleyway the group out in the street begin to cautiously make their way to the back door. Suddenly a hand reaches out and grabs Angrboda by the wrist. "Hey, Cloudbunny, you think you an your friends are going to get away with it? Trying to sneak out without paying your due!" Standing before you is an another slaver. By the smell, and looks of her, a few more drinks will send her to a realm of dreams. "You think you can sneak off without buyin a round from your first run?"

Quickly turning the drunken woman's hand upon herself, Angrboda pulls her into the darkened alley and into the deftly produced blade. A look of shock fleets past the woman's eyes as comprehension of what is really going on slowly, painfully, dawns on her. A slight sobering effect crosses her face as it looks like she is about to call out. [Private to Angrboda: The dagger squirms slightly in your hand.] Mere seconds later a the woman slowly arcs her back, as if trying to pull away, as a look of confusion takes over. Her mouth opens and a low moan, caused by the long slow intake of breath, escapes as the body and mind finally catch up with each other.

[Secret to Angrboda: "Puuurrrrrrrr."]

The woman attempts to feebly squirm, as her life drains slowly away. After a few seconds the woman begins to sink to her knees. Slowly Angrboda guides her down and lets her fall into a hunched over resting position. [Private to Angrboda: You attempt to remove the blade, however it feels to be stuck.] Quickly draping the arms down and into a drunken stupor sleeping pose, Angrboda moves a bit of debris to make the appearance that this woman stumbled into the alley to sleep it off. Hopefully the body will remain hidden until the early hours. [Secret to Angrboda: Grabbing the dagger again and giving it a second tug it comes out quite easily. You notice that there is no pool of blood, no blood on the dagger, and only a hint of a splatter on your hand and the target's clothes]

[Secret to Angrboda: "Ohhhhh."]

You all quickly move on towards the open door at the back.

[Private to Angrboda: You feel rejuvenated, almost a bit hyper, as if the draining of your spells did not phase you. Your MP has been replenished.]

Ecalir moved into the shadows as she spotted the guard and began to play in her mind the conversation with the bartender and all of what she knew about this situation. Had the bartender assumed they were loyal or rebel? By the presence of the guard, they had stumbled upon some type of official corridor, which meant that she was passing for someone who should be here. How had that happened? Had Angrboda stumbled upon a pass phrase by accident? No chances that was happening twice.

Instead, her mind moved quickly into overdrive as it tried to decide what to do with this situation. The other would be along soon and there was no telling how well unnoticed they would be going. Knowing Viktor, not at all. If the elf had been here, they might use some magic, but it was just Eclair, the chirugeon, and their steel. This would need to be quick and quiet so as to not alert the thirty upstairs.

She looked around her to assess whether or not she could approach the guards unseen while motioning Rael to stay hidden.

Rael sighed, this must be a subtle work a work for a man like him. He really hated that notion but they had to take care of the guards quickly and fast. He backtrack long enough to take the steaming mug Eclair had not drank.

He took one of the slaver drugs from his belt, dipping his blade in it and pouring the rest into the drink. The knife he set in his sleeve, for easy reach.

Standing in the shadows he quickly toss down the disguise Angroboda had fashioned for him, it was a pity as it was a master craft of disguise but he figured his true form would better fit. He adjusted his clothing enough to what he thought would be a seductive form. Held the mug in his hand and walked toward the guards trying to imitate the gait of the arm candy they saw outside.

"One special drink for the lady Lessanda and a toy to play with..." he says in a slurry slutty voice... pausing as he spots the guards "Which of you are Lessanda?" he tried to sound surprised and astounded and hope that the pulsing of his heart that seem so strong they surely must have heard it would not give him away.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Rael does his best to slut himself up, taking notes from the encounter with the guide just moments before. Eclair, seeing Rael walking downstairs with little attempt at stealth takes the opportunity to dive in behind the wine racks just moments before Rael announces his presence.

The two guards look up, startled and confused. The furthest one squints her eyes at Rael "Who?" The one sitting nearest the stair turns around, sees Rael strutting his stuff as he walks down the stairs, and backhand waves at the furthest guard. "Yeah, That's me, it's uhh My Birthday, and they stuck me here. I could use a bit of cheering up!"

Rael Saunters over to the table offering the drink to the guard closest to the stairs. "Well then, This is drink is on the house. Sorry I do not have one for your friend, Maybe she can get one for herself while I help make today's trouble go away?" he says in as sultry a husky voice as he can muster.

The other guard grumbles a bit, gets up and starts to head for the stairway.

Rael starts to work his magic, keeping the attention of that guard occupied who does take a drink from the mug offered.

At this time the rest of the group makes it in the back door, noticing the one of the guards heading over to the stairs, and Eclair hiding in the shadows just at the base.

He just wanted for the drug to work its way so that he could ease up a bit and clear the way for his compatriots.

Eclair smiles at the subterfuge and giggles a bit at "slutty Rael" though making sure it is silent. God, she hoped men didn't loot as stupid as that when women seduced them or women looked at bad as they when they were seducing. It was a really funny thing to watch from the sidelines. That said, she considered the situation and kept her weapon ready. This would buy them time, but she could not be sure how much.

She waited for the guard to go unconscious and kept herself in the shadows.

The first guards face falls blank and she begins to stare off into the distance. Rael breathes a sigh of relief as he sees the decoction take effect. No longer needing to dance, Rael slides away from the first guard and slowly approaches the second. cautiously he puts his hand on the dagger, not wanting to draw blood, but setting himself up to if needed.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

There was a brief moment, a flash in the guards eyes, that caused her to reel back for a second. Everyone standing around watching as the guard begins to shove the disguised Viktor aside only to see a slight shimmer about Viktors features when the guard makes contact. This brief contact seems to cause the spell to waver for a second alerting the guard that something was up. Taking a quick step back she is able to get just outside of Viktors reach.

"Wha, What's going on here, Aleta?" She turns her head to see the first guard sitting in the chair with a complete blank on her face and Rael moving forward. Seeing that things are about to take a turn for the worse you see her raise her gauntleted hands and form a fist. The bronzed edges raise along the knuckles forming a sharp quill ridge. Taking a step forward she aims for the face of Viktor with a wild swing hoping to drive him off balance. While the swing does not connect, it does succeed in knocking Viktor off balance. Taking the opportunity to dash up the stairs, with obvious intent to get the rest of the bar, she barrels up the stairs right into Angrboda's waiting dagger.

The shock of the dagger hitting home sticks the call about to be made in her throat, escaping as only a hiss of breath. Angrboda quickly clamps her hand around the guards head and over her mouth, of which the guard promptly bites. Quickly back peddling the guard breaks from Angbroda's grasp, taking the dagger lodged in her gut, with her.

Eclair sees the situation devolved entirely too rapidly for her liking. Noting that the close confines of the cellar were just the right type of place for her short sword to do its most trusted of work, she pulled the blade from its sheath and stepped in behind the panicking guard. She made to grab the woman's chin and stab the blade up between her ribs in a quick motion. It wasn't the strike of a warrior but an assassin and that was what this work was, murder.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

The combined efforts of everyone present is enough to overwhelm the single coherent guard. Blood spurts out onto Eclair as she is able to finish the job. Making sure that the body does not clatter to the floor, Eclair holds on to the body as life drains out. Beyond all efforts to remain silent a single solitary CLANG pierces the muffled excitement as Angrboda's dagger slips free from the body during the struggle. [Private to Angrboda: You swear you hear a tiny hickup.] Tensions set everyone on edge, Did those above hear the commotion? The dagger fall sounds like a church bell ringing in your ears, how could anyone NOT hear it.

People pick themselves up and begin to gather things back together. Looking around there seems to be very little actual hiding spaces for the body, luckily, there is little blood. The commotion at the base of the stairs will be easy to hide from the casual observer. The guard that Rael was able to subdue is still sitting in her chair staring blankly into the distance. Each of the guards was wearing the now familiar red hose and polished bronze ring armor of the royal guard. The table contains the remains of a bottle of wine, a few silver coins, and a pile of tattered playing cards. Hanging over the back of the chair that the now deceased guard was occupying you see her sword belt containing another one of the long swords that seems to be fairly common in this kingdom.

Scanning the cellar you see very little out of the ordinary with the exception of two royal guards stationed in an otherwise nondescript area. [Private to Lars K'Rusome: Near the chair of the now dead guard you see a sack sitting on the ground.]

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Rael, once again saddened by the general carnage, turns and gets back to what he needs to do. He orders the guard to open the way into the castle. The guard stiffly stands and begins to move away from the table.

A mere second later, Angrboda happens to notice that one of the barrels seems to have had a bit more traffic than the rest. Moving over and playing with the extremely large barrel she discovers that the second one from the stairs is indeed hollow. However there appears to be no latch or opening mechanism on the outside of the barrel.

Meanwhile the guard shuffles her way down the line of barrels to the far side. Approaching the last barrel she faces into the corner behind the last barrel. A small well oiled "snick" is heard from the barrel that Angrboda is playing with. When the guard retrieves his hand you hear a second click. Then it dawns on you, Two people are needed to open the latch from this side.

Rael orders the guard to once again open the door, but this time to hold the latch until he say's otherwise. Angrboda waits for the oiled snick, uses the fake bung as a doorknob, and pulls the heavy "door" open. It slides open with ease, the latch and hinge mechanism looks as if it can easily open from the inside. In addition a large scissor like bar with a coiled piece of metal at the top provides a pullback action allowing the door to gently slide shut on it's own.

Behind the entrance is a rough hewn tunnel, excavated through the soft earth, and braced with thick and robust beams. The tunnel is extremely dark, and there is barely just enough room for two people to move through the tunnel side by side. While there is little in the way for headroom, it is comfortable enough (with the exception of Viktor) to walk completely upright. Luckily there is an unlit torch on the wall just under the stairs, otherwise the only other mobile source of light that you can see are the few candles on the guards table.

Viktor sees an old barrel off in the corner opposite the stairs behind the wine racks. He unceremoniously grabs the dead guard and hefts her over. The old barrel is luckily empty. Viktor tosses the body to the floor and begins to strip the body of her armor. After several minuets Viktor is able to get the ringmail off. Taking far more joy than seems to be necessary, Viktor begins to stuff the body into the barrel.

Still holding the latch, the drugged guard answers Rael's inquiries. "There are no guards, just the gazebo, and the garden."

Eclair only gave Rael an appraising look before shrugging and replacing what garments she need to with guard clothing. The red hose and green cloak felt a bit wrong but she adjusted to them quickly and grinned as she stowed what she was not wearing in a pack to throw over her shoulder. She had no real attachment to the items, but keeping them was practical for the moment. She strapped on a longsword on her right hip then countered that weight with her shortsword. Her dagger she tucked into her boots then she adjusted the fit a bit. The guard had not been the same size in all the right areas and the hose were a bit tight across the hips and the cloak hung an inch or so short of where she would like it.

One last check then she looked around at the goons and grimaced. "This is a bit much maybe for me but it is the best we can do. Alright, if Angrboda has the front, then Viktor go after, Rael, Khazim, then I and Lars will bring up the rear. Might recommend that Khazim pose as another prisoner though. He isn't the most convincing of females."

She waited her turn to enter the tunnel.

The group moves about the place preparing the scene. Viktor lends his expert advice on what a drunken binge aftermath looks like. Once things are agreeable, Viktor calmly walks behind the guard and smacks her with the pommel of his Lymorian Axe. She takes a nosedive as she takes the customary drunken slumber position. The group silently falls into step heading down the tunnel while the barrel door silently closes behind them. The tunnel falls into shadowy darkness as the torch flutters from the wind of the closing door.

The tunnel is roughly straight with only minor variation to the grade. After 20 or so minuets you come to a stout wooden ladder heading up roughly 20 feet. At the top of ladder in the flickering darkness you see a wooden door set into a wooden ceiling. Daring a peak, you crack open the door enough to look around. A cool breeze slides into the crack and down into the tunnel. The only view however that you can see is a series wooden posts, much like wooden bars, every direction you can see. It dawns on you, these are not bars, but legs of chars under a table. It seems as if the door opens right in front of a table with several chairs around it. You can hear no other noises about you except for the wind, and the grumbling of those below.

You find yourselves emerging into a spacious gazebo. This eight sided structure offers little in the way of cover from the outside. The only furnishings in the structure is an elegantly carved table with four matching chairs. The door to the tunnel is opposite the main stairway into the gazebo proper. You can tell that you are on the west side of the main compound. Royal Guards lazily walk the upper battlements rarely looking inward to the gardens.

Dressed in your motley assortment of slaver garb and Royal guard gear you should be able to fool those at a distance. The real test is going to come down to when you come face to face with someone who is not bored out of their minds on guard duty.

Oh yeah, updated Maps as well

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

Angrboda climbs out into the courtyard, allowing the haughtiness of her ancestors to become a part of her for the moment.  The change is immediately apparent to the group, even though they have only known her for a short time.  Gone is the sarcastic grin, gone is the twinkle in her eye indicating that she views the world as a joke, the carefree slouch slides away to something much more fearful.  Her mouth curls with disdain, as if dealing with everything around her is hardly worth the effort.  Her eyes harden to the point that they look as if they may be made of the hardest stone.  Her face itself somehow dons a cruelness that you cannot fathom unless you have witnessed the atrocities that happen on the Dreaming Isle. "Come, let's get this over with." she says, her voice seeming to want to flay the skin off of your bodies.  She walks forward, her demeanor that of a person not to be trifled with, that of someone who belongs where she is, a person who punishes those who question.

Eclair notes the shift in stance but chalks it up to good acting or a bad past, but straightens her belt and checks her weapons before moving in behind the rest of the group. They still argued too much though. She supposed that she was equally to blame.

Re: The Prisoner - City of Amaht

The mask was finally peeled from Angrboda face revealing the monster she was truly was. Real hand was on his venom covered knife, he did not put it past her to sell them all, he would stick that blade into her if that would be the case.

However, since for the time being Angroboda did not betrayed them nor summoned the Lords of Chaos to feast on their souls, Rael followed playing his role as best as he could.
