Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

"My name is Maliq. I am a representative of the Jedi order." Maliq looks at the angel-like figure with curiosity.  "And who might I ask am I addressing?"

"I am Sarai Fleur," she replied.

She spoke quietly and calmly, and she assumed a relaxed posture.

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Maliq. Unfortunately, the circumstances are not conducive to amicable relations. Of course, you understand that, to the eyes of everyone here, you are an agent of a foreign government who has killed a man and claims he was a spy and dissembler after the fact. We must assume the worst. It would be in your best interests to cooperate with Balmorran police."

She smiled charmingly, with shining white teeth.

Lord Deikun(the younger) finally stepped forward and spoke. "There are Jedi and Sith?? Here? On Balmorra?? We are a neutral world!! We will NOT be a pawn in this long-standing war between your two factions. I must insist both of your quasi-religious groups leave this planet immedietly!"

OOC:

Clarifying some context/wording from Deikun.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Maliq slowly stands from his seated position. Facing Lord Deikun, he bows. "If you wish for us to leave, we will not offend you by insisting on trying to protect your neutrality." Maliq is once again trying to control his frustration with the arrogance and lack of foresight from the supposed leader of Balmorra. He turns to Sarai. It is very much my pleasure to have met you, Sarai. I have no problems cooperating with local authorities. My concerns, however, lie elsewhere. If my suspicions are correct, I will not receive a fair trial nor will this help Balmorra maintain its independence. It seems that no one realizes the threat they face or are just unwilling to admit to the fact that they are vulnerable and even now being manipulated by the Sith." Maliq sighs. "Just like so many other worlds that are now slaves to their Sith masters."

Jax leans in to whisper to Zabi, "Does your Lordship wish to speak up one way or another here? Remember that some Sith agents were creeping around outside your compound earlier."

Keeping his attention on the scene unfolding in front of the group, Zabi leaned in and whispered to Jax.

"Right now I want to see how Deikun plays this out. I do not believe his shock is genuine. Let him handle this and see if he compromises himself."

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Sarai reverted to a neutral expression and folded her hands in front of herself. Being as tall as she was, she could not diminish her presence, but she could certainly make the event less about herself. Her gown and wings shimmered as she moved.

She said, simply, "If Lord Deikun the Younger wishes you to leave, then that is what you should do."

She could not just call him Lord Deikun; his father, of the same name, was the planet's actual ruler and in the building. It would be exceptionally rude to not append "the Younger" to the end of the son's name when addressing him in his father's presence.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

A look of confusion covers Maliq's face as he addresses not only the angel, and both deikuns, but all within earshot. "I don't mean to be rude but it seems odd to me that even though we all now stand in this room next to a dead body and with me as the suspect, no one has ordered an arrest or even asked any details of the events that lead us here..." He looks directly to Lord Deikun, the younger. "I find that very strange to say the least...or should I be addressing you?" He turns again to face Sarai. "I caught your name but not exactly who you represent or what your role is in this situation. It seems that Lord Deikun is capable enough on his own. What is it that you do for him...with all due respect of course."

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Sarai stared back at Maliq, looking directly into his eyes. Her own were blue and shining, almost as if they glowed from within. Maybe they did; it was hard to tell in the well-lit palace.

She remained silent and waited for Lord Deikun to speak first; it was, after all, his gala.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Hearing Maliq's comments, Zabi let a small smile slip upon hearing his rival called out.

The younger Deikun looked between Sarai and Maliq before speaking again.

"I am indeed capable enough to handle any situation. This..." his glance moved to Sarai as his arms motioned in her direction "is a business associate of mine. She is a representative from an offworld business interest and is here as my personal guest. While I admit it is a bit unconventional and possibly a bit rude to step into the affairs of a planet where she is not a citizen, as the chosen representative I give her free reign within the scope of planetary law to conduct herself. That is up to and including questioning and investigating matters that might impact her and those she represents."

He made a quick motion with his right hand and a few security forces moved to the front of the crowd.  "If you would like to discuss this while under arrest, we can easily arrange that."

He spoke the last sentence with an obviously angered and irritated tone.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Maliq pauses for a long moment, staring deeply into the eyes of Lord Deikun. He then fights back a smirk with all the might he can muster, unable to prevent the look of satisfaction that displays on his face. "Do whatever you please. This is your planet. Your compound. Your gala. Just know that your suspicious reactions to the happenings here tonight have not gone unnoticed. I have the answers I sought." Maliq turns to exit the room. But before he leaves, he turns and bows once more to the crowd. "I apologize for the interruption. Please don't delay your celebration anymore than you already have on my account." Maliq then exits the gala.

[Private to GM: i want to make it seem that ive been using the force to read lord deikun to attempt a bluff to any around who might be force sensitive or under the influence of the sith. dont know if thats possible but thats the goal.

I'm also stowing the piece of lightsaber away for later examination. Maliq doesn't trust those that stand before him and is choosing to walk away with the evidence instead of presenting it Lord Deikuns people.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Sarai put on her best charming smile. It was very, very charming; her teeth were like pure white pearls. A few of the nearby nobles certainly grew weak in the knees.

As Maliq stormed out, Sarai bowed to Lord Deikun. Even bent at the waist, she was nearly as tall as he was. "Thank you for your kind words, your lordship."

She rose and continued, explaining to the crowd and pointedly not speaking in Maliq's direction, "Balmorra is a rich world of wealthy people; trade would be very beneficial to our people, of course. With the ever-rising levels of piracy throughout the galaxy, my company is very interested in acquiring the high-quality arms and battle droids the Balmorran people produce in order to defend our merchant ships. I believe that our energy generation systems may prove a good starting point for negotiations."

She was obviously avoiding speaking about the dead man on the floor. Violence did tend to make merchants squeamish.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Deikun(the younger) stared at Maliq for a moment in shock. He was not used to being dismissed so casually or off-handedly as he just was. It took until Maliq was almost across the room for him to speak up.

"Hold it!! I did not say you could leave! You are here standing over a dead body, a citizen of my planet, in my gala, and act like it is no deal! Security!!" He turned and motioned the security guards, who had been in the background until now, to step forward and stop Maliq.  "Hold this man under arrest until the proper authorities can arrive. This room is off limits to everyone now! We will all back up and await the arrival of the local police forces."

Three security guards stepped forward to surround Maliq and began to escort him out of the room and into a service corridor.

He glanced over at 2 of the workers standing to the side.  "Close off this and all other entrances to the room. Do not disturb anything more then has already been ruined. And everyone here will be questioned about tonights events! No exceptions!"

He turned and began to walk away from the room, causing those behind him to do the same. The crowd began to move from the entrance and back into the main ballroom.

Jax quickly spun to face Redden and Zabi, "Did he just admit that the Sith agent was a citizen of Balmorra?"

Maliq stops upon hearing the voice of Lord Deikun (the younger). Not saying a word, he complies with his wishes and cooperates with the security personnel. Almost got out of here. So close.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

Sarai swept out of the chamber, making a point not to attract too much attention. Several nobles gravitated towards her anyway, trailing behind the fluttering hem of her dress. Maybe they just wanted to see her fly, assuming her wings her functional; a humanoid race with the natural ability to fly was quite rare, after all. Most flying races were insectoid.

Re: Balmorra: Deikun's Gala - Face-to-Face

With the Jedi under arrest and the general mood of the party turning sour, Lord Deikun made an announcement once everyone was back in the main hall.

"I apologize for the tragic actions at the party tonight.  Once the local police arrive and take your statement, you will be free to leave or stay as you seem fit. There will be no shame or social stigma in leaving early.  I or my people will be avialable for anyone who wishes to discuss the night's events."

Deikun then stepped aside to convese with one of the guards.  When he looked up a large police contingency, including the local Captain, entered the main ballroom.
