Re: University, by Day or night
In reply to The Uncaring Night (msg # 47):
Sadie evaluates the empty houses. One would do for now if she had to. An inhabited house would be better. Someone to pay utilities, keep the property maintained. Furnature would be nice too.
The man's shadow occasionally moved in the windows Sadie was watching from across the street. The house, while ample for a family of 4, was too large for him. The paint was a muted dark blue, and recent. The yard was landscaped and lawnless. Sage bushes, lupin, lavender and a pomegranate tree were overshadowed by old trees. Multch and bark carpeted between stratigically placed rocks and plants. She was willing to bet he had hired someone to lay out this carefully planted concoction.
It's still early. She approaches the door, knocking on the dark wood. After a minute the man comes to the door. Sadie clasps her hands in demure fashion, as if she is nervous. "Hi, I'm pleased to meet you. I saw your add in the paper for the room for rent. I'd like to rent it.". She knows very well he didn't place an ad in the paper, but is probably willing to believe she has the wrong address. She is betting everything on this working, because she won't be able to try any of her other ploys after this.
