Re: Change in Posting Frequency

I was thinking waiting to see if our AoOs take the NPC out. I know it isnt likely but I worked on the post tonight so I could potentially post from the phone tomorrow if need be.

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

In reply to Alohan Nuari (msg # 782):

Yeah, it's amazing how much the world has changed in a short amount of time. And all I feel my parents see is the few people who make millions of selling companies. Back when I was finishing college before the tech bust, my mom kept encouraging me to drop out and start s company. "You're good with computer!"  Right, but so is every Xer/Millenial. My wife and I decided to trade a little bit of income for stability and sure jobs working in the public sector, though that's not as certain as it used to be thanks to government shutdowns and budget woes.

OOC: Command, will save vs DC14. Unfortunately, Kibeti is just outside Vorsh's aura of resolve and doesn't get a bonus from that.

Command is language-dependent, and Kibeti does not speak any languages, something the sword would likely suspect. Did you still want to have the sword take that action?

Well... it is a sword, after all.. if the sword talks, maybe Kibeti does too... after all, its a cat of sorts, maybe he just chooses not to.

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

Kibeti does gain the ability to speak with me at a few levels, but does not otherwise gain the ability to understand languages, at least not by the rules.

Should I make the save or is Kibeti immune? Also, Kibeti has SR 7, so if it is applicable, the sword should make the caster level check as well.

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

In reply to Kassius (msg # 788):

A bit more clarification on this.

I know that we fool around a bit and say that Kibeti can understand a lot more than a normal animal companion, but this is really just for roleplaying colour - at least until Kassius gains a few more levels and the cat becomes awakened.

The sword doesn't know this and still takes the action of using command on the cat. It's not like it has much else to do this round anyway.

So I've been wasting my time at work for the past ten years?

Not necessarily if you are building your career and receiving the personal development you need to grow technically - and this is part of your game plan.

But from a point of view of maximising lifetime earnings, probably yes.  :D

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

In reply to Logan (msg # 785):

I am about to turn 40 soon and I think it is interesting to compare my situation to where my father was when he turned 40.

He had a big house close to the beach with mortgage payments that consumed a smaller proportion of take home salary. My Mum never worked until all of us kids had left home, so they were doing that on one income.

Now my Dad would say. "But you're lucky! Air travel is so much cheaper now, you can go to lots more places" or "You have iPad's and the internet!"

Sure, air travel is cheaper, but we still can't afford that in my family. And I would happily trade the iPads and iPhone for lower house prices.

Is this just whining? Yeah, sure. But it can't be denied that inequality is returning to it's historic levels after the blip that occurred after WW2. The rich make the rules and are good at hovering up all the assets.

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

Middle class is in the process of disappearing dude.

Your story is the same as mine, even working as a General Manager in a foreign country does not get me to pay a good flat. Our flat, the one we are still paying in Madrid is 68 square meters. While my parents could afford a big house next to the University Campus of over 160square meters.

Now, not only that, but it becomes absolutely COMPULSORY to save and invest every nickel, as I doubt we will have anything close to the pension my parents have. My parents were incredible workers, one was a teacher that got all the way up to professor at the university, and my mother was an architect, working for the government.

Now, government positions used to be badly payed... but at the moment, even with the freezing that those positions have maintained, they are still higher salaries than most other private positions. It is ridiculous to think that after 20 something years of work that Ihave, with a good position as a GM, I still get payed less than my father or mother were. Spanish salaries are crap though for the most part, but you get the idea.

I speak 4 languages, have worked in huge multinationals all over the world, managed projects of over 7million euros, built up my own company, and now lead someone else's company in a country that's going through crisis, turmoil, and war in their neighbouring countries, with insecurity and all the blah and yet...

I am happy though, I get so much more than others and the experiences are well worth it for me... and I hope for my children.

My wife manages money, she had to quit her job when we started moving, and worked as a freelance on the internet, now with the third baby she had to quit that too until she grows older. He does a great job at managing money and I am so happy for that.  She saves much of what we do and puts it in long term investments, we are almost debt free (only a bit of the flat remains paying, and its rent is paying for that). If we manage to continue saving as we are, without spending much, we might be able to live comfortably when I need to stop working. That's the idea anyway :)

There goes..... who's next on the couch ?.

Yup, the economy sucks. Things do seem to be getting better though, at least in the states. Not sure about Europe though. I'm just glad both my wife and I now have full time, stable employment.

In reply to Angati (msg # 801):

That was the thing that sucked most with working in Saudi. Christmas day was just another work day.

Ramadan on the other hand was mad. We worked an early shift for 4½ hours, went home to sleep, then back for a late shift of another 4 hours. So pointless.

Lol, thats what the saudians do to their contractors... themselves they don't work like that :)

As for Tunisians, they like enjoying with their family and profiting that time, so they tend to just relax things a lot during ramadan

The second is a 'Horn of Fog' which can be sued for concealment.

How do we go about getting representation for this? Or should we act as our own lawyer? :)

I'd take the pear of power but since I have one level of cleric I don't get 2nd level spells yet. :(

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

Celene, are you planning on sticking with sorcerer from here-on out? Or going a mix of sor/cleric? Because if you're sticking with sorc, I don't think we have anyone who can use the pearl of power. I cast spontaneously, and so does Angati. If you're not planning on taking more cleric levels, we should probably just sell it sadly.

The Horn of Fog could be fun though. Probably most useful for the party scout to be able to hide in a pinch, so either me or Logan?

I'm blanking on the name right now but I think there is an equivalent item to a pearl of power for spontaneous casters maybe the DM would allow us to switch it out?
