Re: Change in Posting Frequency

Logan's much better when he can flank an enemy - I can take a 5' step to K2 if someone wants to flank from K4.  That way he'll be dealing 3d6 instead of 1d6 damage.  (And hopefully avoid being killed!)

In reply to Kassius (msg # 885):

I posted the attack, assuming I'll get a flanking partner.  I should resolve that as two posts, but I don't want to hold up the game.  DM, let me know if you don't like that and we can resolve it appropriately.

Kibeti provides you with the flank, so no problem there.

Ugh! Will be without internet for a few days while I change ISP. Can't update maps and post complex turns from my phone so the game is on hold until I sort this out. Sorry to leave you in tenderhooks in mid combat, although I will say this - John2 your character dies next round!!

Have a nice day back at work people!

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 891):

Both those things are true. However, I've never played a melee focused character that isn't a front-line fighter. I think I need to make Logan a little more cautious. He's not good at tanking, but that kinda limits the scouting aspect.

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

Scouting usually involves seeing the enemy and then retreating back to alert the others.

The problem is when you launch the attack before the tanks arrive.

Not to say you weren't effective; but the dying part kind of sucks.

Trust me on this....

*FUCK SCOUTING in RPOL*

it just doesn't work...  you can't be having parallel threads to manage scouting while the rest wait. So either is kind of a small thing that the master manages "story like" rather than going through all the rolls and all... or it just won't happen.

Anyway, I have been there... just where you are, I have died more times than anyone else and felt useless like crap with a roguish character that went into the arcane trickster way. Where he still is and sucks big time... although he is great fun when things work his way.

By the way RAGNAR ???? Are you there Ragnar ?.

At the end, I decided to forget about scouting, and try to just find ways to flank... also trying to avoid my instincts when they said attack now... and just wait till big'uns are there and then I go and deal nice dmg from behind. But again in Rpol it just is a bit harder to do.

I'd say best rogues here are built around some kind of mix, with range damaged or alchemy...

Anyway, just my two cents. Or to dents as it is probably.

:D I was making my comment in jest of course. A lot of it comes down to bad luck. And Logan is a character with the ability to do huge amounts of damage but he is also very fragile.

:D Classic comment Beni! <DM waits until Beni gets down of the soapbox before continuing>

Can I just point out that the scouting actually went really well. Logan got the sneak attack in, it was just that the return damage was enormous. Then John took the calculated risk that one more round of high damage would take this guy out and he got SO close. But not close enough. Life is short and exciting in the Savage Tide adventure path.

Anyway, I think this is a positive thing. Now we will get a chance to leisurely explore Logan's character ark without the annoyance of silly things like combat and treasure.

Well yeah, in hindsight he should have pulled back, hidden behind the tanks (you guys know who you are) and sucked down a potion of cure moderate wounds. Such is life. Logan is impetuous. Maybe dying the SECOND time will teach him some caution? :D

Um, well, yes it is combat heavy. But then you guys are tougher than the average party also. Just heal, heal, heal. Go into every combat at full strength. Sheppard resources as much as possible.

Re: Change in Posting Frequency

Yeah, that was a calculated risk on my part.  I thought two rounds of sneak attack could bring down a baddie, though apparently I was wrong.  And as much as I hate to resort to the "that's what my character would do!" defense, I think Logan is impetuous, though if he does get raised, maybe he'll start learning a little more caution.

He didn't actually move from his square despite my artistic description of his response to Kassius' offer. Celene is still adjacent to him, and it is still difficult terrain due to the silks flying everywhere.

Sorry for the pack of map updates, getting the Internet sorted today.
