Re: OOC3

Kassius:
The spell says: "Bristles burst from your body, lodging in your opponent and blossoming into entangling vines as you pummel your target."

I don't think I've been consistent about it, but I had been imagining it as vines shooting out from his claws/teeth and wrap around the attacked appendage.

Weird.

Okay, I think I just totally screwed up Vanthus' turn. He can't stand up and then take a full turn action like a full attack, can he?

Also, can someone please explain how mutiple attacks work in Pathfinder? Like, explain it to me like I am five...

Vanthus has:

Longsword: 1d20+16,1d20+16,
Sickle: 1d20+13,1d20+9
Tail: 1d20+9

If he uses a move action to 'stand up', is he only able to do a normal attack and just use his longsword once?

Re: OOC3

Multiple attacks work whenever you have a fu attack action.

quote:
Melee +1 longsword +24/+19/+14/+9 (2d6+8/17–20), 5 +1 longswords +24 (2d6+4/17–20), tail slap +17 (2d6+3 plus grab) or 6 slams +22 (1d8+7), tail slap +17 (2d6+3 plus grab)

The above on a full attack allows five longsword attacks and a tail slap. Alternatively the marilith could use 6 slams and a tail slap as a full round action.

As a standard action she could use one longsword or one slam or the tail but not a combination of them. At least as far as I know.

Celene:

Gee, such a big difference between a full attack and moving and attacking in the same round then.

quote:
Melee +1 longsword +24/+19/+14/+9 (2d6+8/17–20), 5 +1 longswords +24 (2d6+4/17–20), tail slap +17 (2d6+3 plus grab) or 6 slams +22 (1d8+7), tail slap +17 (2d6+3 plus grab)

Celene:
The above on a full attack allows five longsword attacks and a tail slap. Alternatively the marilith could use 6 slams and a tail slap as a full round action.

So why is the first phrase 'Melee +1 longsword +24/+19/+14/+9'? Why are only four attack bonuses given? Or should the marilith take 5 attacks with the longsword at +24?

So here are Vanthus' stats (before buffs):

quote:
Melee +3 longsword +16 (1d8+8/19-20) or +3 longsword +15/+10 (1d8+8/19-20) and +1 keen sickle +12/+8 (1d6+2/19-20) and tail +8 (1d6+1 plus poison)

So he can either take one longsword attack at +16 or take longsword +15 / longsword +10 / sickle +12 / sickle +8 / tail +8... correct? And he gets an extra main attack due to the haste as well.

Re: OOC3

Iterative attacks based on base attack bonus drop by 5. At level 6 it's +6/+1.

At level 11 it becomes +11/+6/+1.

Two weapon fighting and multi attack can make this change somewhat.

With Vanthus due to haste he has two at his highest BAB. Then he has one at +16 the. Off hand at +13 then iterative at +9. Then secondary attack at +9 with his natural weapon.

Ha! I've been DM for 2½ years and I just learnt that. Crazy!

Why offhand at +13, isn't it +12/+8? And why natural at +9? Isn't it +8?

Circumstances Primary Hand Off Hand
Normal penalties –6 –10
Off-hand weapon is light –4 –8
Two-Weapon Fighting feat –4 –4
Off-hand weapon is light and Two-Weapon Fighting feat –2 –2

The natural attack is secondary and is always made at -5 from highest BAB.

Re: OOC3

12 hp should make Logan recover.  When can he act?  He'll probably want to attack from the ground, since standing provokes an AoO.  Would his invisibility work against Vanthus?  Or Vanthus is still blind, isn't he?  I might chance the 50% miss chance, but I'd probably stand after the attack, just in case he hit.

He can't get an AOO. I don't think. Blinding may prevent it. You can't react to things you can't see happen.

Yeah, it is clear from his movements that he clearly can't see and won't be able to act if Logan just gets up and walks away.

Re: OOC3

Ah, you're right.  Vanthus can't take an AoO against me.  Nothing in the blindness condition outright states that, but Logan would have concealment against Vanthus, which does mean that he can't take an AoO.  Okay, so when Logan *can* act, he'll probably stand and make a Smite Evil attack against him.  That would give Logan +5 to hit and +2 damage, and his attack would bypass DR.  Plus, it'd be a sneak attack, so I'm looking at a 5d6+8 damage with a +16 BaB.  (And if he survives, then next turn Logan can use TWF and double the fun, because Smite Evil would stay active.)

And now I'm curious, and excited, so I rolled in advance of posting my action:

14:08, Today: Logan rolled 31 using 5d6+8.  Rapier Damage.
14:07, Today: Logan rolled 24 using 1d20+16.  Attack Vanthus.

Wow Nice hit Logan...

That's why rogues are so cool, the damage they can deal when sneaking is amazing... it just doesn't pay off when sneaking cannot be done as they get down so easily... Getting into the hit and run kind of mentality is hard... I have a rogue in another game, and I am SHIT at it.

In reply to Angati (msg # 921):

Yeah, I'm still getting used to it as well. Which has led to at least one of Logan's deaths so far. Actually, Glitterdust is a great combo with a rogue, so we should keep that in mind.  Eventually, we'll have invisibility and then greater invisibility as well. Also, I hadnt considered how nice having smite evil would be, for that extra little kick and also for ignoring DR, though I think here Logan's weapon was enough.

All our loot just washed into the sea... At least we still got his sword.

Why do I have a feeling that he was meant to escape and return later? Instead of being killed there.

Yeah. It sort of sucks. It was meant to end up being a TPK and teach this party some humility. Instead it just reinforced your attitudes of being the biggest badasses to ever slaughter their way through this adventure path. :D

You still get the XP though. Just no cash.
