2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Angati started healing the most damaged Harliss and Liamae, it took more effort than she thought it would, and so she decided to spare one more heal on Celene, before announcing that that was as far as she could go.

"Celene, you don't do any more channeling right ?"

07:45, Today: Angati rolled 12 using 2d8+4.  Cure Moderate wounds Liamae.
07:45, Today: Angati rolled 9 using 2d8+4.  Cure Moderate Wounds Harliss.

07:47, Today: Angati rolled 8 using 1d8+4.  CLW Harliss.
07:46, Today: Angati rolled 6 using 1d8+4.  CLW Harliss.

2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

OOC: Here are the new damage totals. Yes, Celene has 4 channels left and should definately use 1-2 to bring the party up to full strength. Actually, that is pretty much what I am waiting for.

Alohan   3
Angati   2
Kassius  4
Harliss  5
Liamae   4

Any questions for Liamae, the Jade Raven sorceress? She thanks Angati for the healing and picks up her clothing and equipment which is in a pile in front of the chair that Chief Lorpth was sitting in. She turns away to get some privacy, removes the white sheet that the cutlery had been hanging off and then dresses.

She says she has two wands - one of mage armour that she will now happily use on anyone who wants it and one of shocking gasp that she intends to use on any bullywug they come across from now on.

2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Celene prays to Wee Jas and positive energy washes over her allies.

When finished she turns to Liamae "What do you know of the raid? Do you know where the Ravens or Lavinia were when this started?" Celene was worried that the woman had been caught on the initial entry and wouldn't know much more than the size of the force that had attacked the manor.

While Liamae is answering Celene rifles through the belonging of the chief.

Celene Channels for 4.

That leaves Harliss down only 1.

Celene will gladly accept mage armor.

Casting Detect Magic as well to look for items.

2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Celene heals pretty much all of the remaining wounds of the party, then receives mage armour from Liamae.

Celene then uses detect magic to go through all the items belonging to the dead bullywugs.

The stuff that belongs to the rank-and-file is unsurprisingly not interesting - simple clubs and flint throwing axes. Lorpth on the other hand has a number of magical items:

greatclub +1
potion of shield of faith +2
potion of sure moderate wounds (I was going to have him use this but he never got the chance)
salve of slipperiness
bullywug sized hide armour +1

He was also wearing a simple wooden crown with a number of polished moonstones set into it - there are seven white moonstones, each worth 100 gp.

Let me know if you want to claim an item, I will add the rest to the loot thread.

2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Liamae sits down on the muddy floor, her head in her hands. "It was pretty late, about tenth clock, and Kaskus Karl was out on guard duty while the rest of us were sitting in the small dining room next to the central garden having a late supper."

OOC: Karkus Karl is the drawven druid with the obese giant badger animal companion. The small dining room is the one that Lavinia has always entertained the characters in when they visited.

"Suddenly a bunch of those, those... things... burst into the room. Tolin (the human ranger) wrestled one to the ground and Zan (half-elven rogue) used a butter knife to kill another. That gave me enough time to get a few spells off, and we fought a fighting retreat back room by room through the house. Eventually we were overcome though and... I don't know. Zan and Tolin were knocked unconscious and taken upstairs while that chief came down here. He said it was too dry upstairs."

"After a few hours they got bored and came up with a way to amuse themselves. They stripped me down and then dressed me up in a sheet with cutlery tied to it. Then they set their pet on me - that little brute!"

"I don't know how many there are. We must have killed at least a dozen, but I saw at least another dozen still left a live. And they have a big half orc working for them too."

"We have to act! The other Jade Ravens might still be alive, not to mention Lavinia! And what about Kaskus Karl? Didn't you come across him out in the garden?"

Is the potion of "sure" moderate wounds a trick? I don't want any surprises later on.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Alohan flips through the vials and takes one when offered. He popped the cork off the glass vial and fills up the now empty gourd dangling from his loin cloth. Better to contain the drink in something a bit more sturdy than the Sasserine glass. Satisfied all of the magical contents were transferred, he hands the empty vial to Celene in case she needs it for her own personal use.

The Islander tried not to gawk at Liamae as she attempted to cover herself, stealing sideways glances as she spoke. He met Harliss's eye and blushed. There was also the cool presence of Harliss, which -although Alohan was attracted to her- was beginning to cause him some doubt. He wasn't sure what type of woman she was with her rampant bloodlust and decided to wait rather than stick his eel in slippery waters.

"We not be seein' Kaskus. Ya screamin' be bringin' us down quickly." he spoke, joining Liamae at her side. He reached out for her arm, grabbing hold of her shoulder in reassurance. "Don't be worryin'. We be findin' them all."
laying claim to the Shield of Faith potion. Got Barkskin on now so don't quite need mage armor.
Plan: Should we backtrack out to the grounds and stealth around looking for Kaskus? I think Kassius and I could give the grounds a once over before we act. Alternatively, we just kick open the back door and start whoopin ass.

"I think we need to take the shortest route even if it may be a bit more dangerous... they have been at it for a while now, and they were about to finish with Liamae... these guys will be missing water, so they'll probably get itchy with their prisoners." said Angati starting to get on the move

OOC: Just feel free to tell Angati better safe than sorry... I think we would be pressed to try to get the rest and Lavinia before they are hurt though.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

OOC: Ah-ha! Well spotted Celene, I tried to slip a potion of 'Ensure Moderate Wounds' past you.

Heh, I can confirm that is just a typo. Who wants it?

Liamae nods in thanks to Alohan. "Who knows, he may have already succumbed to these creatures. What are they doing here anyway? Attacking a house in the middle of Sasserine? It makes no sense at all, and they would never've gotten away with it either except they attacked in the middle of Carnavale."

In regards to 'back doors', the basement has three potential exits in addition to the rusted bars.

Recycled map showing the exits from the basement

There is a narrow staircase leading up to the ground floor - Liamae says this is how she was brought down. There is a small half-height door to the east - this is checked and just leads to a tiny room filled with pumping equipment for the fountain that is the source of the stream running through the basement... no exit that way.

The party could also continue upstream, i.e. south. Kassius peaks through the bars which the stream filters through and sees the central courtyard-garden that they have passed through many times before. It appears quiet and still now, with the half-orcs enhanced sight not picking up any traces of bullywugs outside in the rain. A flicker of lightning momentarily brings the entire garden into stark relief, and makes the hunter's eyes sting. The storm is still raging outside. If they want to go in that direction they'll have to somehow remove or break the strong bars on the grill. Harliss scoffs at the mere idea of this plan. "We should just kick in the back door and start whoppin ass, me mateys," she states as a plan, followed by. "All... hail... the... PRINCE OF SAVAGE TIDES!"

OOC: Angati and Harliss both loose a point of intelligence.

Map of the ground floor showing the central garden. The basement is located under the northern side of the house.

Celene did her best to visualize the grounds "We came in through the front gate and worked our way around to the left side of the manor. I assume wed have noticed some sign of battle unless Kaskus was taken completely unawares." she frowned 'That leave the back of the back and the right side still unexplored. Kassius any chance Kibeti can make a loop around to look for him? The rain may stifle scents but she's much better suited to slinking around in the dark than the rest of us." Celene asked.

That is correct. That said, I'm actually stealthier than Kibeti, and can grant myself the scent ability as well if we wanted to try that plan.

Kassius looks over at his companion, trying to gauge the cat's willingness to go along with the plan. Kibeti responds by taking a choice bite of bullywug leg, and licking his chops contentendly. "Uhh, I don't think that's a great idea. An albino panther is likely to stick out a bit anyways. I can use the link to gain a similar sense of smell and try sniffing around though?"

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

OOC: A majority are in favour of continuing inside the house so that is what we're going to do...

The party ready themselves, and with Liamae now joining them in position directly behind Celene they continue up the narrow wooden stairs to the ground floor. At the top of the stairs there is a door which Urol (best perception in the party with +13) checks for traps and then listens as well.

He hears a muffled conversation taking place behind the door and some distance away. It takes him a very seconds to understand that the reason he can't understand the conversation is that it is in Bullywi, so Celene is called forward to translate:

Bullywug 1: "Ha! Ha! If he was so smart why end up stuffed in dry-folk house?"
Bullywug 2: "He not smart, just big."
Bullywug 3: "Me like. Me take home. Ha ha!"
A number of other bullywugs are chatting and joking on the other side of the door - it sounds like there are about ½ dozen of them.

OOC: Not much to show on the map right now - just a door at the top of the stairs.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

The party decides to use its standard modus operandi - charge straight in. The door is kicked open and a large room covered in hunting trophies is displayed. Each of the trophies has been preserved by taxidermy and it is quite a collection. Great sabre-toothed cats, a crouching deinonychus (although this is just another 'thunder lizard' to all of the party except Urol), a strange badger-like creature with golden fur and eight legs and many more mundane animals like leopards, wolves and bears.

There is also a bloated dire-toad the size of a pony, and three of the half dozen startled bullywugs in the room are crouched around this. One of them is actually grasping it from behind, trying to lift it off its plinth - its mouth gaping open in surprise more than alarm when he sees the humans enter.

The other three bullywugs are loitering around the room, their hands not in their pockets since bullywugs don't have pockets, but basically doing the bullywug equivalent of standing around with their hands in their pockets.

All six bullywugs look very surprised to see the party flood out of the door down to the basement.

OOC: Okay, just include any preparations you would have made in your first post. You have surprise and can move to any square on the map without worrying about threat zones and get to attack against their flat-footed AC.

Please try and include details of the room when you describe your attack. In addition to the stuffed animals there is also a large fireplace and a beautiful mahogany desk with a stuffed armchair behind it.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Angati concentrated on twisting the time just so that she'd be partially out of it for a few cents of a second each second, 'blinking they called it...' she thought 'what a simplification !, even time flicker that is much better a name does not do this justice'. She had these thoughts as she let Celene do her casting and burning before charging in like steel packed mule, and with about the same risk to her punch.

She passed next to one of the monsters leaving the table to her left and then to her back as the morningstar ball swong with the speed of the run as it connected squarely against the body of the bullywug in an upward movement, making it rise a centimetre or so. If it had had gonads... he would for sure no longer have a use for them... as it was, frogs were different.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Celene spews magical purple flames into the space occupied by the three frogmen and the stuffed toad. The taxidemical specimen instantly explodes into the flame as her magic engulfs it and the stuffing inside goes up like kindling. The halpless bullywug which has been in the process of moving the stuffed toad takes the full brunt of her magic (8 hp on BW2). The other frogmen manage to jump out of the way (4 hp on BW 1 & 3).

Urol Forol:
"What kind of person are you all working for?  Did they kill all these themselves?"

... thinks the gnome as he charges in to kill a bunch of cognizant creatures. Well, I guess that Bullywugs don't count as 'wildlife'.

Urol just misses with his frost bomb and instead the missile weapon lands a little short of where he intended - never mind, that is dead on target for the BW that was picking up the stuffed dire toad. The remains of Celene's magical flame absorb some of the cold, and all three avoid most of the blast (2 hp on BW1, 2 & 3) although BW3 is at least staggered by it.

Angati moves into place, her form shifting and blinking in and out of view. She whacks BW3 (8 hp damage).

Kassius and Alohan still to move.
