Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

"I came in from my guard post out in the gardens when I heard the fighting going on inside and managed to join the tail end of the fight in the courtyard. Tollin and Zan were fighting hard but the shear numbers of those bullywugs were wearing them down. I saw them run off... I mean, perform a fighting retreat up the stairs to the top floor. Baxter and I stayed downstairs to hold them off."

The dwarf's hands go to his face in horror. "Baxter! Oh no! Little buddy, where are you?"

The dwarf goes to the shuttered windows in the kitchen room and flings them back, revealing the small inner courtyard garden that the party have passed through many times before. A flash of light illuminates tropical plants, half a dozen dead bullywugs and the corpse of Baxter the Giant Badger huddled up in the north-eastern corner. His obese form is pressed up against the wall, with numerous wounds in his back. It seems that either he was trying to scale the shear wall of the house to escape or otherwise just cowering in terror from his opponents.

"Rest in peace little buddy," sniffles the stocky dwarven cleric. "You gave them hell right to the end I'm sure."

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

OOC: Warning, extremely long post coming up.

Kaskus leads them out of the armoury and onto the first floor landing which is directly above the main entranceway to the house. Then the party proceeds up a broad set of stairs into the top floor of the house.

OOC: Just let me know if you want to cast any spells in preparation for the final battle. You head up the stairs quickly enough that all of the party buffs are still in effect, i.e. barkskin for Alohan, gravity bow for Kassius and time flicker for Angati.

The top floor has three sets of double doors, one of which is open into a large master bedroom. The room itself is dark with closed shutters and few torches to provide light, and the air wafting out from it into the upstairs hallways smells of a rank combination of body order, swamp mud and pus. The desk, chairs and most of the other furniture in the room have been draped with white canvas dust covers, giving this place the eerie feeling of a tomb.

And inside this room several people are waiting for the party...

Red D = Drevoraz Kabran
Red B = Bua Gorg
Green H = Harliss
Green L = Lavinia Vanderboren
Green T = Tollin (Jade Raven ranger)
Green Z = Zan (Jade Raven half-elf rogue)
Green K = Kaskus (Jade Raven dwarven druid)
Green L = Liamae - opps, two L's, I'll fix that later (Jade Raven sorceress)

A muscular, green-skinned half-orc in studded leather and decorated with numerous tattoos stands in his the room - by his clothing, scarred face and missing eye it is clear that he has lived the life of a pirate so surely this is none other than Drevoraz Kabran, Harliss' first mate. The pirate stands with his rapier draw, the tip of the blade pointed at the throat of Lavinia Vanderboren.

The party's patroness sits bound in a heavy armchair, back-to-back with three other hostages tied down in chairs - the Jade Ravens Tollin and Zan are also there, along with Lavinia's servant, the wizened old Halfling Kora Whistlegap. Only Lavinia appears to be conscious, and her battered and bloodied face regards the half-orc silently with eyes narrowed more in fury than fear. Tollin and Zan have been heavily beaten and sit unconscious in their chairs, their slack bodies only held in place by the ropes wrapped around them. Kora has met and even worse fate - her throat has been slit form ear to ear and her head is tilted back at an unnatural angle. The clotted blood on her serving dress shows that she died some time ago.

The large four-poster bed in the northwest corner of this room has been uncovered, and its white dust covers soaked in water and draped around a truly hideous specimen of bullywug-kind. Bua Gorg is a grotesque frogman with yellowish, sallow skin and a sagging throat pouch - deflated and now pus ridden. He straightens in the bed and croaks as he sees the party in the doorway.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Harliss steps to the front of the party and motions for the others to wait. "Drevoraz! It is good to see yeh lad. My, oh my, yeh've done well."

The half-orc straightens, as though seeing his captain for the first time. The party notice that his brow is covered and sweet and his hand is not steady on the blade - it shakes visible in his hand. "Cap? Cap, is that you! Yeah, I done good, aye Cap? I come and get in the harbour. That louse Vanthus wasn't here, but I done got his sister. Yeh see?"

Harliss' brow furrows a little as she takes in the scene. "Yeah, me matey. You done good. That was good thinking of yeh. But the plans changed a bit. We're gunna get back at that fool Vanthus another way. He ain't livin' here no more."

Drevoraz lowers his blade a bit, obviously confused. "What? Nay, nay captain. She said he was comin' home later. That's why I be waiting here. For him, but then yeh come in."

"Nay lad. I think she was just stalling yeh. The girl ain't in line with her brother no more. We're gunna have to find another way. Now, lower the sword lad. We'll sort this out."

The half-orc balls up the fist of his non-sword hand and slams it into the side of his face again and again. "Ahhh! Frac it cap! It don't make no sense. And these voices. These voice keep talking to me. No, screaming at me! They be telling me to do things cap!"

Harliss draws in her breath and takes a half step back, her hand moving to hover over her dagger hilt. She takes in the half-orc's condition. Sweaty brow, shaking body, and the black discoloured patch of skin that seemed to be expanding up his neck even as she watched. "I know lad. They's voices. Just ignore them lad, fight them. Just hold them off a little while longer and we'll get some help. Both of us, yeh and me. Fight them off, I know it's possible because I did..."

OOC: ...mainly with Beni's help. Those lesser restore spells meant that she didn't need to even make a will save in the end to avoid the conversion. You big spoil-sport Beni!!

The half-orc lowers his weapon, and also lowers his gaze as though ashamed to look at this captain. "Yeh remember that time I saved yeh life cap? That time I lost my eye, yeh promise to take care of me, right cap? I don't want ta go to no jail."

Harliss smiles and lets her hand fall to her side. "Yeh, I remember Drevoraz. That be when I made yeh first mate. I'll take care of yeh, I promise, now let's get out of here."

Off to the side of the room, hidden in the deep shadows and nearly forgotten about a deep, throaty noise appears from the ruined throat sack of the unholy bullywug. At first it appears that he is coughing, or at least he is clearing his throat, but then the party realise that he is laughing. He speaks in the common tongue, in a raspy quiet whisper.

"There is no going back dry skins. The savage tide is coming. It will wash over you and all of your accursed cities." The infected frogman turns to Drevoraz Kabran and whispers in a barely audible voice.

"Serve him. Serve the Prince of Savage Tides"

Drevoraz' face contorts and with a scream he drops to his knees, the dark, stained patch of black skin spreading up to take over his face. The half-orc screams until it seems his chest will split and then his body rips apart as a second head appears from his should and wild, razor sharp teeth sprout in his mouth. In a few seconds the transformation is complete and no vestiges the man who used to be Drevoraz Kabran remain in the creature's eyes. It squeals in bestial hunger.

Bua Gorg continues his deep, throaty chuckling as he begins to cast a spell.

"Oh lad," says Harliss with obviously deep sadness. "I am so sorry lad. But I will take care of yeh, just like a promised." She draws her rapier.

Lavinia, having spent the few hours working her hands free from the bounds around the chair see her chance and bolts are from the armchair towards the party. The head of the savage pirate that was formally Drevoraz jerks around and he springs at her.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Behind Harliss, Alohan stood proud steeling himself to the coming battle. The ungodly stench permeating the third floor pushed at his senses but he focused on his enemies. He was prepared to confront the ferocious bullywugs, feeling his pele bubbling below the surface. They would make a stand, here, and finish the threat once and for all. Yet at the back of his mind, all he could think about was an even bigger threat -the prince of tides was something that needed to be addressed. The savage tide was coming.
After the time for talk was complete -and it was obvious the first mate would not back down- Alohan took a step forward. He clutched his taiaha close, slipping the long hide strap off his shoulder allowing him to drop the weapon if needed. Suddenly, Bua Gorg emerged from the canopy bed and his reaction was momentarily taken aback.

11:45, Today: Alohan Nuari rolled 14 using 1d20+4 ((10)).

Drevoraz is the first to act. He sees Lavinia tense and as soon as she starts in her desparate flight across the room he tackles her to the ground. What happens next appears in Angati's nightmares for years to come. The savage pirate clamps his jaw either side of the her face and then bites down hard, ripping the noble woman's face right off.

Fighting back a wave of nausea, Angati closes her eyes and sifts through the other possible realities....

13:55, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 8 using 1d20+6.  Reroll Drevoraz initiative.

OOC: Boooo!

The dual cursed oracle finds a much better reality, one where the infected orc is very slow off the mark...

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

When combat was imminent, Alohan took off across the room, ignoring the bigger threat for one that may be the key to the whole engagement -Boa Gorg. His route took him past Lavinia and he took the moment to gaze upon her battered body as an excuse to release his pele. Rage burst forth, consuming his consciousness. He frothed at the mouth and pure adrenaline flowed through his body. In the back of his mind -Pa Uma- maneuvers flashing through what little of consciousness he had left. It was time to smash some skulls.

He sprinted across her gloomy master bedroom for the two headed monstrosity perched on her four poster bed, lowering his shoulder and slamming into the creature. He was nimble enough to angle the impact, praying his leverage allowed him to launch the creature into the wall behind and praying his magically enhanced skin would protect him from this creature's claws and teeth. He didn't want to join the ranks of Angati and Harliss as this Savage Prince didn't seem like the folk he would enjoy sharing a drink in Shadowshore with.

OOC: It was Drevoraz that changed into the savage pirate - he is the 'D' on the map. Boa Gorg is the 'B' and although pus ridden is not infected with the Savage Plague. He is just your average evil bullywug Mage.

Which one does Alohan want to go after? He'll need to use charge to get to Boa Gorg.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

Angati was sure that Harliss would go against Dre, she had an obligation to him after all... so, she took the straight line against the frog like creature, running and charging against it as if she was crazed, which to a certain extent she was, after seeing what Dre would have done to Lavinia.

The charge did not finish with her hitting the bullywug though, her morningstar flew wide and above the creature making just a strange low humming sound.

Re: 2D - TBG - Frogs in the House

OOC: Taking it in order of initiative.

Kassius was the first to act, stepping to one side to get a decent shot and then loosing two arrows into the room. One hits (12 hp damage).

Kibeti slinks into the room and tries to bite the cursed pirate without success.

Harliss yells as she runs across the room, her wide brimmed hat slipping from her head. The creature that was Drevoraz roars in reply and parries her rapier blow.

Celene sends a glittering cloud to fly around the head of the deformed pirate.

OOC: Hmmm... so glitter dust is not mind affecting, huh? Damn!

20:27, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 10 using 1d20+2.  Drevoraz will save vs DC17 for glitterdust.

The savage pirate snarls as he is enveloped in the magic and rendered blind.

Angati charges across the room at the pustulant bullywug and slams her morning star down - Bua Gorg simply dodges and the ball cracks down on the bed with a low hum.

Unfortunately, in dodging Angati's blow Bua Gorg has placed himself right in the path of a raging native... Alohan's full body weight plows into him and the frogman mage is body slammed into the bed. Any thoughts of relief of landing on a soft surface are driven from the evil creature's brain as the native forces his elbow into the bullywug's neck (9 hp damage and grappled - not prone despite the description).

But the diseased bullywug has a trick up his sleeve, with a terrible tearing noise he pulls to the side, ripping his rotten throat pouch right off...

20:37, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 14 using 1d20+8.  Bua Gorg escape artist check vs Alohan grapple.

..but Alohan merely shifts his weight and then wraps the fragman up in a headlook. Bua Gorg therefore doesn't make it very far.

Seeing her chance, Lavinia flees out of the room past the blinded Drevoraz.

OOC: Nice work.

The savage pirate screams in fury and strikes out at Harliss...

OOC: I'm giving him a 50% chance of guessing which square she is in.

20:41, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 1 using 1d2.  Savage Pirate guesses square, 1 is correct.

OOC: Then 50% miss chance...

20:42, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 2 using 1d2.  Savage Pirate hits on 1.

...but misses totally.

OOC: Did I do that right?

The four bullywugs that had been hiding in the two other upstairs bedrooms burst out of the doors, croaking and waving their axe. The sorceresses are caught totally by surprise and both take club blows to the back of their shoulders (3 hp to Liamae, 6 hp to Celene). But at least the melee gives the read-guard of the party some warning against the next wave - the two remaining bullywugs fling axes at Celene and Lavinia, but the ladies take cover and the weapons lodges themselves into the balustrades on the stairs.

"Get behind me Liamae!" bellows Kaskus as he pushes her back. The dwarf brings his scimitar down right on BW1's neck (confirmed crit hit for all of 4 hp damage :D ).
