The stars are shinning down through a cloudless night like a thousand thousand glittering candles and the lullaby of the gentle surf washes over them. Lavinia takes Alohan’s hand and leans in against his shoulder, making his already attentive ‘royal eel’ even more alert as they leave the village and walk onto the beach.

“Amazing,” says Lavinia. “It is still so warm out here, and everything is so clean. Sasserine doesn’t have any decent beach you know. My goodness… wouldn’t it be amazing to swim under the stars?”

Not waiting for his answer, the young noblewoman giggles and turns him around so that he is facing away from the water.

“No peaking now!” she laughs, and Alohan hears the soft rustle of clothes hitting the ground followed by the sound of naked feet running down the beach. There is some splashing, and the noise of Lavinia gasping.

“The water is wonderful,” she yells out to him. “Come and join me!”

The barbarian turns and sees that Lavinia is already in the waves and pushing out past the break line of the surf, her bare back glimmering in the starlight. She turns, coyly hiding her naked breasts from his view with one arm, and beacons to him with the other to come into the water.

Meanwhile, back on the Sea Wyvern, those stuck on the boat are making their own fun. Somehow a way was found to purchase a good amount of that alcoholic coconut drink... 'kava' the locals call it, and all of you have enjoyed both the taste and the hefty kick it provides.

Nevertheless, the gnome lays back, luxuriating the in the feeling.

"Ah...miles away from immediate danger.  I feel like I'm draped inside of a large cup, totally at ease.  Nothing can topple me over."

Alohan lets a booming laugh of surprise carry out across the waters for the speed at which Lavinia has swam excites him even more.  A skilled swimmer, a invitation to her nakedness. This will be a great night!

He runs for the water, hurdling over the first few sets of waves, and then --springing like gazelle into the air-- he tucks into a flip and dives just under the surface of the water. A moment later the black shape of his upper torso emerges, shark-like, from the backside of a wave, and with long, reaching strokes he pulls himself across the wine-dark sea as easily as most men walk along the shore.

As usual, the protective powers of loco-weed save Urol from all other attacks.

Skald takes his time over his drinks and doesn't get drunk at all.



Skald, mellowed by the night and the drink begins relating his story... but...



OOC: "shark-like"? an interesting choice of words...

Alohan reaches Lavinia quickly, and they embrace out in the deep water beyond where the waves break. The water gently rolls them up and down. The night seems darker out there, with the black swell blocking out some of the starlight.

Lavinia wraps her legs around him and strokes his bald head. Her voice changes... wistful and sad rather than lustful. "Oh Alohan, if only you'd just agreed to crack skulls for me down at the harbour," she whispers.

Before the barbarian has had a chance to process this, "Lavnia" dips beneath the surface. The aroused native is maybe not as suspicious as he should be, as this could be leading to a sex act that he has actually experienced before out in the surf, but when he feels a metal shackle clamp around one ankle he knows he is in trouble. "Lavinia" does not resurface. He starts yelling for help (or at least I assume he does. I sort of need him to do that so we can have the combat team all in once place).

And so the young prince is stuck there in the water out beyond the breakers, but he is not alone for long. Soon he sees several large dark fins cutting through the water. He is barely able to move, let alone defend himself, and the first two of the three sharks rip into his side and leg (23 hp damage).

Luckily those on the Sea Wyvern have heard his calls of alarm and have charged down the beach to find out what is happening. Kinstal, Angati, Urol and Skald appear around the corner of the bay.

Alohan is manacled to some sort of chain attached to something really heavy. He could:

- use a full round action to make an escape artist check at DC35. This will trigger an AoO.
- make a strength check at DC16 to move 10' in one direction. No AoO triggered.
- fight the sharks with his bare hands

Alohan is totally naked and has no equipment on his person at all.

Alohan and the sharks are in 'dim light' meaning that:



Please go ahead and roll for the 20" miss chance when making a successful attack roll. The sharks don't need to make this roll since they have blind-sense.

And of course there is the water to think about:



Also, don't forget the firing into combat penalty if appropriate.

I anyone wants to jump into the water to help him, then use the swimming rules. This counts as 'rough water' due to the breaking surf.

Angati spirit was fuelled by the fire of the kava, so without thinking twice, she dived into the water. Other routes were probably better for her, like summoning help for his friend, but she felt some kind of rush in her blood that pushed her into the water. As she did so, the leather cloak took on a glistening black aspect and stretched adhering to her skin, transforming her into a large manta ray albeit with arms that sped through the waters towards Alohan.

She sped quickly towards the closest shark, her tail hitting it squarely on the nose, and her cestus slashing through its belly.

It felt so good to be a manta ray.

@Angati: I counted out the squares and it depends a little bit on where is water you can wade in and where is water you have to swim in, but I count 60' across the diagonal to shark #2 so I think you just make it. ALso, you can't attack with both the tail and the cestus unless you make a full round attack, so I will just take the tail since that does the most damage.

Angati slides through the water and hits with he tail (10 hp), causing shark #2 to divert its attention to her.

Alohan hits shark #1 (8 hp).

Urol finally hears enough of the splashing that it manages to penetrate the double-drug induced haze he is experiencing.  Rising unsteadily to his feet, he draws his repeating crossbow.  Still weaving a little, he takes careful aim and fires a bolt directly at the nearest shark.  Obscured in the dark, the bolt flies wide.

Urol fires his repeating crossbow widely into the dark, coming closer to hitting his skipper than any shark.

Kinstal is more careful and catches shark #3 with a glancing blow (5 hp).

Skald takes his time, moving down the beach until he has a good line of sight on the shark nearest to the beach (#3). He sends an arrow into the night and it hits (6 hp). Note: He hits despite the dim light - the lack of illumination doesn't seem to effect him at all.

Angati felt the blood in the water, almost as if she could taste it. Her senses were very similar to those of a shark and the only thing differencing them was their instincts. She could however perceive the thrill for the kill of the sharks. 'We have to do this quick... I can't cast to aid him now... so let's kill them fast' she thought, unable to speak.

Her hand still close to the belly of the shark profited the movement to slash at it again, making a long gash along its softer underside, however, probably because of the lack of experience, she missed with her tail... remembering her thoughts of but a second ago, she decided to glitch time looking for another reality, where she actually hit the shark with her tail too.

ANgati's gamble pays off - with her improved second attack she kills shark #2.

Seeing the heavily wounded shark go down, Urol turned his attention to the next one trailing blood.  The gnomel took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves and see through the occasional hallucinations passing in front of his eyes.  Finally relaxing, Urol pulled the trigger.  The heavy weapon kicked, and a spurt of blood erupted from the shark.

<START OF SHARKS' ROUND FOUR>

The last shark pays no attention to the demise of its comrades and continues attacking the barbarian. It gets distracted by the pieces of shark flesh in the water and miraculously Alohan escapes its attacks (bah, boring!).

OOC: Okay, 22 hp left on this shark. All the party are now on the beach (write yourselves in), just go for it!

Celene rushes out into the surf when she see's her companions attacking something in the water. She realizes that Alohan is out their with another shark. Water rushed over her feet and she gathered purple fire around her forearms. Raising each hand she sent two jets of fire coursing towards the shark. The first ray goes wide of her target. The second smashes into the waves and creates a cloud of scalding steam.

With his vision nearly as red as the waters around him, Alohan spins about and strikes twice, wildly, at the predator that just missed latching onto his arm, but neither the spinning elbow or the attempted hammerfest find their target.

As Kassius hurries away from the enraged natives, he hears the sounds of shouting. Hurrying to the beach, he is somehow not surprised to discover that Alohan is once again in a perilous position being eaten by sharks. The trouble that man gets himself into!

He says Urol and the new guy, Kinstal sensibly shooting at the sharks from on land, rather than trying underwater wrestling or whatever Alohan was doing now. The other too are skilled, but Kassius is better. Taking careful aim, he fires again and again, sinking two arrows into the shark.

Angati turned quickly launching first a quick hit with her tail and then closing in to try to eviscerate the shark. She was like a force of nature as she glided under the shark turning upside down to slash all along its abdomen and leaving most of the sharks entrails out, hanging in the water.

Angati slices the final shark into shreads.

Between the two of them, Angati and Alohan are able to drag the half drowned captain through the surf-line and onto the beach where the barbarian collapses into the sand.

OOC: Obligatory roleplaying bit here. You all have some explaining to do to each other.

Celene walked over to where ALohan lay in the sand "Not to make matters worse; but we're not wanted here anymore. I think we should leave as soon as possible." she said not even caring to ask why the captain had been swimming with sharks.

Indeed, a crowd of angry and armed natives is already circling around the party, their spear and clubs at the ready.

Logan finishes his brief jog to the shore, and has just begun to pull out his weapons when it looks like everything is resolved.  "There might be time for talking later, but I don't think we're wanted here right now.  Avner tried to pull some stunt with a girl here, and your countrymen were not amused.  Once we all get back to the boat, you can tell us what exactly was going on out there."

The party head back to the Sea Wyvern with a group of angry locals building behind them. Alohan is in bad shape and needs to be supported by Kinstal and Logan - hence he isn't able to try any diplomacy.

OOC: Any healing for the young barbarian?

They all arrive back at the boat safe and sound and the gangplank is pulled up. The bare chested men from the village of Rencrue mull around the wharf yelling threats up at the vessel, while the crew prepare to set sail out into the moonlight. Avner is brought up the wharf by an even angrier group of men who liberally punch him in between screaming at him. He is then tossed unceremoniously into the Sea Wyvern.

The Blue Nixie, still moored out in the harbor, raises two flags:

DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE?
WHAT IS YOUR STATUS?

And then Alohan realizes that he left his magical taiaha on the beach...

Angati healed Alohan as best she could, when she saw the big man was more worried about his Taiaha than his wounds she said "Ok, I think I can do something about it if it's still there... your Taiaha is not so heavy after all... let's see..." she summoned an Archon, and told it to teleport to the beach and bring back the Taiaha.

If need be Angati could probably try to swim to the beach herself as a manta ray.

"Still who could have been the shape changer ?... it needs to be that knows Lavinia, and from our ship most probably... Avner could not have been.... "

Angati summons another archon and sends him down to the nearby beach to fetch the barbarian-monk's weapon. The little fellow returns and reports that the weapon is nowhere to be found on the beach. Angati checks it out in her sting-ray form and can't find it either.

The crew and all the colonist are brought on deck in order to sort out once and for all who the guilty party is. The young red-headed woman who was such a competent sailor but refused to answer questions directly, i.e. Lirith, is not aboard.

OOC: Well, dang. I left enough clues!

Angati went down to take Lirith's stuff from where it was hidden, to check mostly if it was still there, and if it could give them any other clue.
"Take that sorry excuse of a man into his chambers let's go speak with him for a minute before moving on".

Once in the chambers with every one and Avner, she said "Well, you are costing us a dear amount of money, and we are keeping a tab on all the losses originated because of your incompetence, so that this is subtracted from whatever agreement you have going on... ". She paused a bit "You have been sleeping with Lirith have you not ?. What do you know of her ? are you paying her for her services ?"

Lirith is/was sleeping in the main bunkroom so there wasn't much space for her to stow her stuff – and she doesn’t even have much stuff in her trunk anyway. Just a few coins, exactly one nice dress made of green velvet with some floral motifs stitched into it, one wooden hairbrush with a stylised dragon on the back and a couple of daggers.

Avner is lying in his bed (well, it’s the captain’s bed really) cupping a wet rag to the side of his face that took the worse of the beatings and is moaning softly to himself. He perks up at Angati’s comments though.

“What?! Charging me for losses? Preposterous! The only reason we are here is that our so-called captain failed to protect our food supply and then decided to visit these savages because he was getting homesick for his own kind! YOUR family should end up paying MY family!”



Avner smirks. “Yes, the young lady came a-calling a few nights during our voyage? What of it?” He twists the ends of his mustache and grins at Angati.



Avner waves his hand around airily. “The usual sob story. Attended that dance academy but didn’t make a career of it, so chalk her up in the ‘failed erotic dancer’ category. Just got away from a bad boy friend who trashed her place… you know, the usual. Damn firecracker in the bedroom though!”



“Me? Paying? Oh goodness me Mistress Lidu. It is HER that should have been paying ME! The opportunity to spend a night with the most eligible bachelor in Sasserine is kind an attraction, I can tell you!”

The nobleman’s manservant reappears in the room with a new wet cloth in hand. “Where the devil have you been you pathetic little baboon!” explodes Avner. He rips the fresh rag out of the old man’s hand and presses it against the other side of his face… a little too roughly, Avner gasps in pain. “I am going to come back here with some of Father’s troops and show these coconuts what is what, that I promise you!”

OOC: We had found her secret stash of weapons etc, that you said were the tools of an assassin, when Angati went down with Logan to search the place were she was stowing the cargo, remember ?.

Yep, I remember that you found a stash of assassin stuff down in the bilge below the lower hold when you searched it with Logan, but why do you connect that with Lirith? Okay, it is starting to look a bit suspicious... but you don't have solid proof connecting her with those weapons... other than you saw her mucking around down there at the start of the voyage...

...mind you, as the night continues towards dawn Lirith does turn up. Either she really was the assasian or some nasty fate has befallen her on the island that prevents her from returning to the ship.

Celene had followed Angati and listened as she question Avner. The words 'dance academy' had struck her as odd. "What dance academy did Lirith attend?" she asked him.

Alohan hasn't mentioned anything about Lavinia, but have we seen her?

Avner looks over at Celene, noticing her for the first time. "Well heeellllloooo," he says with a extra smoothing of his mustache down. "I'd imagined you been in my cabin before, but maybe not quite like this."

"Err, there is only one Dance Academy in Sasserine, it was the Telvanta in the Merchant district. Heh. There are some fine fillies attending that school, I can tell you..."



OOC: Nope. Alohan was the only one her saw her.

Celene heard the name Telvanta and her blood grew cold. They had been the breeding group of evil once before; why not again? She decided to table that in her mind for the time being and instead focused on the letch in front of her. She drew power from the succubus blood within her and attempted to further impress her will upon Avner.

Casting Charm Person. DC 17 will save.

Avner shrinks back as Celene casts her spell, but shows no sign of being effected. "What are you doing? Are you trying to cast a spell on me?!"

"Huh... seems you haven't spent so much time with the Telvanta dancers after all. I assumed you'd have seen a mating dance or two in your time. Oh well...perhaps I misjudged you." Celene said as she flicked her hair and turned from the nobleman.

Hoping his want to believe will give me some kind of bonus.

Avner doesn't seem very convinced.

"Mating dance? What are you talking about you crazy girl? The Telvanta trains dancers for the opera and ballet, everyone knows that!"

OOC: So it looks like Lirith was the culprit, and she is definitely off the boat. Are we ready to move on?

Well, I also meant have we seen her since that attack?  Alohan doesn't know that was Lirith in disguise, right?  He's got to freak out a little when he sees Lavinia back on board acting totally normal.

OOC: No, none of you have seen "Lavinia" at all today, since she is aboard the Blue Nixie which is still anchored out in the middle of the harbour. This scene is taking place on board the Sea Wyvern.
