Kassius' second arrow catches Shefton in the arm (12 hp) and the man curses. "What your turn you dirty mongrel. You'll pay the price for for destroying the Lotus Dragons, just like she did!"

The water elemental was indeed still entangled and Kibeti jumps into the middle of it, rending with his teeth and claws backwards and forwards (16 hp after DR).

Logan misses. Urol raps his Dragon Lotus opponent across the head (6 hp), almost knocking him out.

Kinstal 5' shifts to J12 to attack one of the pirates with a power attack.  With 2 mighty swings of his longsword and Kinstal hits nothing but air both times.  Growling with aggravation Kinstal will try to shield the others around him.

Kistal shifts forward but misses his target.

Angati brings Celene 'back to life' (although the sorceress is still prone and nauseated). The healing from the archon brings Lavinia back to consciousness (at exactly zero hp, so she is staggered).

Kaskus screws up his face and calls down a bolt of lightning again - it ploughs through the middle of the water elemental (good damage roll, elemental failed reflex save) and shreds the core of it into steaming hot vapour. The remaining water at the periphery sloops to the floor and the elemental is slain.

Zan follows up with an attack on the dragon lotus guildsman that he has been fighting for several rounds. This time the rogue slips past the man's guard and slays him with a rapier through the chest.

Tolin and Liamae continue puking.

Sailor #3, the nameless crewmember without fear, cheers as the water elemental goes down and runs forward to attack SP3. The blow connects and the savage pirate is disembowelled. The sailor jerks his sword free of the creature and ducks to avoid the 'death throes' attack. With a powerful roar, the man raises his rapier over his head and screams in victory!

OOC: Wow, who is this guy?

He never sees the acid spray from the exploding savage pirate coming and the corrosive fluid catches him full in the face. The sailor falls to the deck and quickly dies a horrible death.

OOC: Oh, okay, he's no-one.

OOC: Alright Kinstal and Logan, I need a DC15 reflex save from both of you or take 1d6 points of acid damage. Making the save fully negates the damage.

Captain Rodrigo is also caught by the edge of the spray (1 hp damage).

Alohan continues his attempts to overpower the increasingly frantic defensive efforts of Rowyn. The Lotus Lady spins and bites like a feral cat, but the native grits his teeth and finally locks both her arms behind her back and then slams her onto the deck (pin successful).

SP4 continues its attack on the captain of the Blue Nixie and catches him with its rapier (6 hp). The poor sailor is now very close to death.

SP9 continues its useless attack on Zan. It is becoming clear that it is very unlikely to hit the nimble half-elf rogue.

SP12 bends over and starts slowly loading the ballista again.

Shefton is surprised by the speed of Celene's recovery. "Stay dead will you!" he screams as he chops down at her - she is even MORE of a sitting duck than usual since she is lying on the deck (6 hp).

Dragon Lotus thief #5 pushes past the prone Celene (he can't attack her due to Angati's sanctuary spell) and jabs at Kassius. He catches the hunter unaware and hits him, but it is just a scratch (2 hp).

DL6 continues his long dual with Urol and just misses.

Rowyn, face pressed down hard on the heavy deck, rain swept hair plastered across her face, lets out a low moan of despair. She really is stuck now with little hope of wriggling a hand free of the babarian's grip, let along managing to cast one of her spells.

"Vanthus," she screams out into the stormy air as she struggles to tilt her head up off the deck. "Vanthus, I know you're out there. G'damn it Vanthus. You promised you'd be here. SHOW YOURSELF!"

<START OF PLAYERS' ROUND SIX>

Battlemap

There is a deep chuckling that seems to come out of the swirling storm clouds themselves. The laughter grows in intensity until it overcomes the howling wind and crashing waves, and then there is a flash of blinding light. One the characters' eyes recover, they see a dark figure flying in the air over the battle. It is a man, or rather, it is roughly man shaped, but has large bat-like wings sprouting from its back, steel like metal scales over most of its body and a long tail sprout jagged spikes.

But the voice that comes from the figure is instantly recognisable. It is a voice they're all heard before (well, except for Kinstal since he is new). The voice of Vanthus Vanderboren, Lavinia's brother.

"<chuckle> well, well, my dear, you were so sure that you and your men could handle it, just as well I am here though... hmm...?" The demon-like man throws back his head and roars in laughter.

"Vanthus, Vanthus, is that you?" questions the captured thief. She seems just as surprised by the transformation as the rest of them.

"Yes my love, they were a bit tougher than I thought. But why didn't you help? Nearly all of my men, the few that were left and stayed loyal from last time these villains raided hideout, all of them dead now!" She seems honestly sad about that. "You could have helped Vanthus. We had a dead!"

As the pair of them talk, both the savage pirates and the lotus dragons lower their weapons and wait expectantly. The Jade Raven's reform and reposition, and Kaskus (their druid) starts a session of hurried healing.

OOC: So you've got a couple of rounds to do a bit of patchup and preparation here.

"Yes, indeed my 'dear'," Vanthus snears at that last word. "We did have a deal. And that deal included not HURTING MY SISTER!" The demon-man's words boom out and the storm actually silences a little at them.

"Oh, forgive me," whispers Rowyn - she is still being held face down on the deck with hands pinned behind her back by Alohan. "She just got caught in the cross-fire... please, help me! I did everything you asked! Led you right to her!"

"SILENCE!" roars Vanthus. He turns his attention to his sister.

Lavinia has not been wasting time. She has managed to drink a healing potion in between bouts of vomiting and is now backing away with Kinstal and Logan guarding her and her captain.

OOC: Where do you want to position yourselves for the last stand?

Any questions or interjections? We can't let the villain monologue all the way through his spiel.

Vanthus is hovering 30' above J8.

Kinstal will keep his position near Lavinia, not knowing exactly what is going on but ready to defend his shipmates.

"AGGHHHH, Damn what the frack are those things?It burst apart!  GAH!" Hollers Kinstal as this is his first experience with the pirates.

Celene stopped vomiting and she wiped sick from her mouth, shaking her hands to let the remainder patter to the deck. She straightened up and shot a cold look at Shefton. He was as good as dead; he just didn't know it yet. The sorceress backed away, setting Urol between herself and the enemy, as Vanthus arrived and she drank a potion quickly. It felt strange in her empty stomach but it would heal her wounds.

Celene stared up at the creature above them and snarled "Vanthus! You have ruined the lives of too many and it ends here. Your lover and her gang of murderers will not leave these ships alive. We have laid low a cult of succubi. We do not fear you. Your life was forfeit the moment you decided to cross us!"

The last things the sorceress does is cast a spell after which she vanishes from sight.

Vanthus stares over at the sorceress on the Sea Wyvern, seemingly condensing to notice them for the first time. His red demonic eyes bore into the sorceress balefully. "My goodness. Are you those bozos that I taught a lesson to all those months ago on Parrot Island? <snigger> Tell me, did you actually manage to find Penkus' ghost down there is those zombie infested tunnels? <sort>"



Celene takes cover at the prow of the boat and then disappears from view. Hopefully she can survive a little bit longer that last time when the combat kicks off again.



Celene doesn't have a clue what he is. He definitely isn't a traditional demon as named in her books.

Logan scowls. " Bozos!  Come down here and give us a fair fight!  We lived...more or less!"  Logan unconsciously rubs above his intestines. "But I have a friend I'd like you to meet. His name is two feet of magically enchanted steel. He'd like to meet your guts!"

"So... what has happened to you Vanthus ? sprouting wings and scales hoping to be handsome ?… have you told that poor idiot of Rowyn what you did you your last lover ?...".

Angati chuckled as if she was more amused than ever "Ahh.. it seems not... her face, wrecked as it is, speaks for herself... anyway, Vanthus basically left her pregnant, to rot and go crazy as as monster grew in her belly... it basically eat her alive... from the inside, you know ?… and he left her in a cave surrounded by monsters holding her prisoner as she went mad... crazier every day... the poor soul still thought that Vanthus loved her and he would come back for her...".

She turned from Rowyn to look at Vanthus "So, at least it is plainly visible where the rotten seed was coming from. But they don't know what happens when they are close to you, do they ?. Is that why you came here sweet pie ?… to ditch Rowyn and get your sister ?."

Turning back to Rowyn again she said "Rowyn dear, rogues have a bit more respect for themselves... I thought you had it in you anyways... but you know... else, you can just grovel there, and open your legs and hope that whatever seed he plants in you doesn't eat your insides, and while he is already looking for his next prey...".

"Or... you can fight him... Open your eyes... see his treason for what it is, and live a decent life of piracy away from this lunacy that has nothing to do with self respecting pirates."

09:42, Today: Angati rolled 31 using 1d20+16.  Diplomacy Roll.

Vanthus stretches out his arms theatrically. "I am a frakken demon you gutter-rat cur! What can your little pig-sticker do to me?"



Vanthus just laughs at Angati's question. "It was not beauty I sort girl. It was power. And I found it."



Vanthus actually looks confused by that comment. He has apparently forgotten all about the young red-headed girl that led him to Kraken's Cove... where he set off the Black Pearl that transformed her into a horrible creature.



Rowyn laughs... as best she can with Alohan's elbow pushing into the back of her neck. "You aren't surprising me with any new information. That was the deal. I lead him to Lavinia then I get to keep the 'Sea Wyvern'... once the rest of you are dead of course. As to what Vanthus does with his tramp of a sister, that is really up to him and none of my business."



"He gets Lavinia, I get one of the ships and become a captain in the Crimson Fleet. That is the deal," barks Rowyn.



...but she starts to look disquieted by the oracle's words. The battle had not gone the way she had planned and Vanthus has made to move to help her yet.

OOC: And the combat restarts when I post tonight!!

Vanthus has lowered himself down onto the deck and folded his wings up behind him during the conversation. Now he speaks up again.

"Enough of this!" he commands as he turns his attention to Lavinia.

"Sister... dearest sister. It is time for us to be reunited. I have finally started walking on the path that shall lead me to my destiny, but I want you by my side Lavinia."

"<sobbing gently>Vanthus... oh Vanthus. What have you done to yourself."

Vanthus looks at the scaly skin on his arms as though inspecting it for the first time and chuckles. "Yes, there have been some changes, haven't there Lavinia? After I left Kraken's Cove I struck a deal with those I met. I joined the Crimson Fleet and allowed myself to be taken... down, down, down to the Abyss into Lost Lemoriax. And there..." Vanthus actually pales as he talks about the next part. "...there I was remade on the flesh forges below the city. I will not lie Lavinia... it was... unpleasant. But in doing so I become something else..."

"<whispering>...you became something else the night you murdered our parents... a monster! <quietly sobbing>" Lavinia's words are not heard by her brother, so caught up he is in his monologue.

"...I am on the path to reach my full potential now sister. But I want you by my side to witness it! We are meant to be together Lavinia!" He reaches a scaled hand out towards her.

A row consisting of Logan, Kinstal and Kibeti has now formed between Lavinia and Vanthus. This seems to give her some strength.

"I would rather die than be with you, you... MONSTER!"

His sister's words catch like a blow across the face - Vanthus actually flinches. Then his face hardens. "Oh, that is definitely an option dear sister. But death will not save you from me!"

The young noblewoman is almost broken by her tears, but then looks at Logan. What was it that her swordmaster had taught her? Keep your opponent off guard with words as much as with your swordplay. She smiles.

"You want me dead first? Ha! That is probably the order you would prefer it in!"

It is not much of a jibe but enough to remove the energy from the moment and get a chuckle of appreciation from the Jade Ravens. Even some of the savage pirates join in... they might be cursed and almost insane from blood lust, but they enjoy seeing their boss getting verbally whipped as much as the next guy.

"EEEEE-NOUGH!" screams Vanthus, true madness showing in his voice. "LAVINIA. COME TO ME NOW." His words are a command that tightens Lavinia's body. He spreads his arms wide to welcome her into his embrace. She takes a step towards him.

With a wail, Lavinia's body betrays her and she starts pushing past Kinstal to get to the waiting arms of her brother - she pushes away his first attempts to stop her. "Stop. Me. Please," she manages to spit out between gritted teeth.

OOC: Someone will need to grapple her to stop her getting past.

Vanthus crows in triumph. "That's it V'sesslin," he says, calling out over his shoulder to someone unseen on the 'Sygian Shark'. "Now burn the Sea Wyvern. No-one will have her."

Rowyn calls out in dismay. "No! You promised." But Vanthus just laughs as a man appears (as though from an invisibility spell) on the other ship and starts casting a spell. And he speaks the terrible words. "RELEASE THE THUNDER LIZARDS!"

A board slips away from the poop deck of the Stygian Shark and half a dozen ferocious thunder lizards charge out towards those on the Blue Nixie.

Is the spellcasting man actively casting (i.e. casting a full round spell), or is he preparing to cast? I want to interrupt him, and I can do that by either:
A. full attacking him now
B. ready an action to fire once when he starts casting.

I'll post my action later since I rolled like a champion.

It is not a spell that takes a whole round to cast, it is one that just requires a standard action. So I suppose he isn't quite casting the spell yet, he is just limbering up and stretching his fingertips likes mages do before they get down to business.

So, no chance to interrupt him sorry. Some times I get myself in trouble with the poetic descriptions of what is going on.
